This has got to be the best delivery sushi we have had in Brooklyn. The Sushi and sashimi really is wonderful. We got the sushi and sashimi for two, and it was the buttery-est and most flavorful 'regular' order-in sushi we have had. It's actually not the generic stuff. Their stuff is just a different class than the other places in the Slope-to-Cobble Hill area. On a par with Ki on Smith Street, but I actually think it's a bit better. Wow I am so incredibly thankful and happy to have found and tried Mura! I typically frequent Tofu Sushi across the street, but I wanted to try other options and today I tried their sashimi salad (with spicy mayo on side). Absolutely delicious and well worth the price. It was both flavorful and healthy. They added in a really generous portion of sashimi, and the quality of the meat is incredible. The customer service was awesome, and they were all very sweet and kind upon pickup (I will say they are friendlier than their competitors across the street). I live one block away so I can safely say after just one meal I will be back for more! They gave me a menu and the lunch specials look awesome (they also don't upcharge for certain rolls on lunch special). I can't believe this was my first time ordering, but safe to say they've made a new loyal customer. My dinner was light on calories and healthy, but also savory! I'm not sure if this salad is considered an appetizer, but I will say for light eaters it makes an excellent and healthy dinner option. Japanese cuisine is my absolute favorite, and I can't wait to try out every sashimi item on their menu. Updated: Came back today for the sushi lunch special. Absolutely delicious! The oyster tempura roll is unreal. I got the 3 roll combo instead of 2 with the intent to save most of it for later.... I'm embarrassed to admit that didn't happen because of how good it was. I do not think you can find better Nabeyaki Udon in this area. And, I've tried a lot of sushi/sashimi options for delivery and it seems like Mura is the place that gets it right every time. For example, a Tuna maki roll for $5 and salmon/avocado maki roll for only $5.50 is a great deal but it's even better when it tastes so delicious. Mura is a newly opened Japanese restaurant on 5th avenue, across the street from Sakura, another Japanese restaurant, and within proximity to at least 4 other Japanese restaurants in the neighborhood. So, while 5th avenue didn't need another sushi joint, I was impressed with Mura. The interior is spacious and serene, the tables are not cramped together, the seating is comfortable - overall a very pleasant room to linger over a long meal. The menu has nothing extraordinarily different - generic Japanese menu items that are served in most restaurants. But for $8, I had a superior miso soup with enoki mushrooms, a simple green salad with fresh vegetables and miso dressing, and two rolls: spicy seafood tempura, and avocado eel. I thought they were outstanding - expertly rolled, perfectly cooked/seasoned rice, fresh fish, fresh vegetables. I wasn't expecting much from Mura, and was pleasantly surprised. I'll definitely be back to try the sushi. ps. I have been back 3 times since writing this review. While the rolls are not as expertly rolled as I imagined, there's something about them that makes them strangely addictive. It's ok. Mura was simply ok. I got the I Love Eel roll, which was indeed fresh, but it's wrapped in cucumber, which becomes slightly strange because it's warm and slippery. And, hard to eat in one bite, so the cucumber falls apart. The summer roll would have been better with fresh crab, instead of the subpar crab cake that was in the middle. The uni was super fresh, and the Spanish mackerel (aji, a special that day), was good. But, and here is the big big reason I won't be coming back, the rice is unseasoned. Sushi rice should have that balance of sweet, salty, vinegary deliciousnes. Not overwhelming, but a little pluck, and this rice was so bland it made the entire eating experience devoid of flavor. i love sushi, and could eat it every day, but not without that balance. It's like having a ruben on white bread, or eating an unseasoned latke. yawn. boring. still, the delivery I got was super quick, friendly, great phone mannerisms. oh, and solid gyoza and clam soup. read more

I've only eaten here once. I had the tonkatsu dinner. The food was fine, and service was attentive. It's nice inside, but doesn't feel like a Japanese restaurant. And, well, it's not Japanese owned or run. I subtracted a star because I walked by on a dog walk this one time, and saw raw chicken in an open, uncovered box on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant. That seems grossly unsanitary, and has turned me off from eating here ever again. read more

Ordered the crab cakes appetizer that was supposed to come with lobster salad, instead was brought a crab cake with a pinch of lettuce. The food was good but it took them forever to bring it out, considering there was only 2 other couples sitting in the restaurant the "they were really busy" excuse doesn't fly. Mura is just simply amazing. I love sushi and most of all, Japanese culture. Walking into Mura makes you feel like you are entering stress-free zone. I always take my friends there for catch ups and to have a relaxing experience. The waiters are sweet and the food is wonderful. Mango shrimp, sweet potato and Spicy baked are my favorite rolls. Stopped by Mura to grab some sushi to go on the way home one night. It was a Friday but it wasn't too crowded so they were able to help us right away. We ordered four rolls, including their sweet potato roll and the spinach avocado. Delicious! They were ready quickly and I was able to trek on. I ordered delivery from here, and it might just be my new go to for whenever I get that good ol' Japanese craving. I had the dinner bento, and the thing that was particularly exciting was the edamame. Maybe I was just having a dull day in general, but those little green soy pods really added some joy to my day. Not that there was anything particularly great about the edamame, I just rarely have edamame included in my bento boxes. The dinner bento is a good deal, and I had the miso black cod and sashimi as my selections. The cod wasn't all that special, but it was a nice change from the things I normally get and I would definitely order it again. The sashimi comes with 6 pieces - 2 each of yellow fin, salmon, and tuna (and oh man, that tuna was REALLY good). All in all, a generous and satisfying meal. read more

I really enjoy this place. I'm a fan of very basic sushi, and occasionally experiment with it. I have never been let down. Mura is clean, service has always been friendly, pricing is moderate, but decent lunch specials. Overall you can't go wrong, at least I haven't yet. The bento box lunch deal is by far the best in the area. Soup, salad, chicken teriyaki, shrimp shumai, a california roll, edamame, and rice, all for $8-9 is a steal. Granted the portions aren't massive - you'll still leave satisfied. Hell, just compare that to a $7-8 McDonalds meal vs sit down service for slightly more? I think that just blew my mind. read more

Eh. It wasn't the best sushi/sashimi I've had before, but it was adequate in terms of sustenance. We came here Friday night with welcome smiles and ample seating. The night began as any other night would have begun. Service was on par, perhaps a bit too much service, but bearable. They did take plates away quickly to the point where I felt like I was having a "Dine & Dash" experience. The food. Well, it was okay. I got a steak dish and some sushi...mostly mackeral and my wife had a noodle soup with her yellowtail special (suggested by the waitress). Food came out pretty fast and my mackeral was a bit too dry....probably oxidized from not being properly stored. The steak I had was tender, but seriously drenched in their "special sauce" which was actually A-1 steak sauce mixed with soy sauce or some other sauce. The yellowtail wasn't yellowtail at all, but some other fish. It was very crudely cut...perhaps by a circular saw and contained a bone, which is a major no-no when preparing basic sashimi. Interior was roomy and quaint. verdict: If you want good food, head somewhere else. Just want to get something in your stomach, have a seat! read more

Arriving at around 7:25pm, the restaurant had around 3-4 tables filled. The seating was spacious enough to move around without it being too overstuffed and crowded. Had a fairly large group so had the chance to try a lot of the things on the menu. There were a few things that was very memorable at Mura. Starting with the appetizers: First and foremost, my favorite dish hands down would be the Miso Black Cod. Accompanied with sticky black rice on the side, it had a slight sweet taste which I very much enjoyed. The fish itself was bursting with flavor. The Seafood Ceviche was pretty good too. Had three kinds of fish: tuna, salmon and yellowtail. Soaked in citrus vinaigrette,the tuna and yellowtail were very fresh Unfortunately, the salmon accompanied with avocado wasn't as fresh as I would have liked. Also ordered the Rock Shrimp Tempura, which reminded me a lot of the walnut shrimp with mayonnaise served in Chinese restaurants. For the rolls, my favorite would be the Crazy roll, which was crazily good. Consisting of the shrimp tempura with avocado topped with spicy blue crab and chive. Extremely tasty combination. Could not taste the spicyness at all. I ordered the Snow Crab Naruto, which had a very nice presentation and all, but not as good as it looked. Red Snapper entree was extremely big. not bad either. Had given it 3 stars at first due to the slightly slow service, and because some items we ordered on the menu the restuarant didn't have. But because I like the creativeness of the rolls (they had brown rice sushi!), and the nice atmosphere of the place, I'll give it a final 4. read more

They did have one roll I loved and that's the Twin Maki roll - definitely recommend that one! When I made her talk to me and showed her my order confirm she said they don't have that one and offered no resolve. I walked away having already paid $40 online and never received my food. I'm a fan! Mura did a wonderful job of handling my friend's birthday. We ordered: The $10 sweet, bubbly sake! Delicious! Like the best parts of beer and champagne, combined in a pretty pink bottle. Greenpeace roll, where you taste first the sweet potato tempura, then its crunchiness, then the avocado, then the sundried tomatoes. Amazing. Not enough to be an entree, but totally delicious to share. $12. Vegetable tempura, which included--oh my goodness!--avocados. And gorgeous zuchs. And pumpkin. And yucca! Includes soup/salad and rice. Wow. $10. Chicken teriyaki. Like $13. Total awesomeness. I'm a vegetarian and I still thought my friend's plate looked pretty. Also came with soup/salad, rice. Soba noodles, around $11. They looked totally gorgeous, browned, amazing. Also got soup/salad. Then I went up to a waitress and whispered that it was my friend's birthday, and could she please put a candle in her tempura ice cream? The surprise was kind of ruined--and after my brilliant sneak maneuvers!--when she came back to ask the name. In front of all of us. And then came back with the dessert and sang happy birthday. So if you're planning a birthday sneak attack, tell her the name, too. Oh well--we were very pleased. Best of all, the green tea tempura ice cream (normally $5) was on the house. Then there were cute little Asian gum candies on our bill. The decor is a great combo of Brooklyn-Asian--one brick wall, one smooth wood; some bamboo; some modern black furniture, and some fake candles that are great fun to play with. I'm actually pretty surprised this place has such a low rating! We've eaten here a number of times, and gotten delivery once or twice as well. We've ordered from pretty much all of the sections of their extensive menu, and haven't ever had anything that seemed sub-par or not fresh. (The one note I will make is their shrimp tempura are rather small, and comes already dressed with a sauce, so if you prefer it without you'll have to ask. Just struck me as unusual when I ordered it.) Their servers in the restaurant are always attentive and helpful. They have a great selection of all kinds of sushi and sashimi, as well as cooked dishes- and the restaurant that can execute well, consistently, on all of those aspects is rare. But, I think this is one. And it's usually fairly quiet, especially during the week, a great spot for a date or intimate dinner. read more

We used to love this place as their food and service WAS wonderful. We went in a week ago and it seems like it managed by someone new. The waitstaff was extremely pushy - to an uncomfortable level. Our waiter was over enthusiastically describing their 'special'. Which was some new kind of fish they were offering. He suggested 3-4 times that we try it, but never mentioned the price. Eventually we relented, "we'll try the appetizer size'. The waiter said 'no problem' and hurried off. Soon after, he approached our table with a ginormous plate with a huge pile of ice and slices of fish on top. We didn't like it all and didn't eat it. While eating, the waitstaff (2 of them) kept coming by our table every few minutes asking if we wanted another glass of wine even though we had clearly said the first, second and even third time that we were fine with what we had. This also made us both uncomfortable. When the bill came we were very surprised to find that the 'appetizer' special they were pushing was over $20! Clearly had we known it would have cost this much there would have been absolutely no way we ever would of ordered it. We felt taken advantage of, and explained to the waiter that we didn't ask for the appetizer and even refused 2-3 times before finally giving in. He should, at a minimum, tell his customers the price of a dish like this if he planned to promote it so forcefully. After all, it cost more that our entrees. The rest of the food was fine - perhaps a little above average. If you're considering eating here, I would recommend delivery. read more

Love Mura! It helps that it is really close to home, but their rolls were really fantastic. Great variety, very fresh and fun. We generally only do special rolls, but even their standard fare stuff was really great. Loved the twin roll, the Mura roll and the Sakura roll in particular. There are so many choices that we'll look forward to trying them all. It is also really reasonable in comparison to lots of sushi places, and there was far more than we could really consume in one sitting. Loved it. read more

Reliable sushi for dine-in or delivery. I usually get the roll combos delivered from Seamless and the food always arrives promptly and well packaged. Individual pieces and sashimi are served in thick sliced slabs. The fish is always fresh and tasty. No complaints. Service at dine-in is very attentive and the staff is very nice. Decor inside is dark and casual. There is a nice outdoor seating area with wooden chairs and tables available when the weather is warm. Ordered the inexpensive $10.50 3-roll lunch special delivery with no problems over the phone. The delivery was fast, but the determining factor in this review is the food itself. It was fine. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing too pleasing either. Given the price, perhaps I shouldn't be too hard on them, but I found myself shrugging at the lack of flavor. Since 2-stars on Yelp is "Meh. I've experienced better," I think it's an accurate rating for these guys. Cheap eats but bland. You could do better elsewhere. read more
