I've been going to Mr Wok on\off for over 20 years and it has always been consistently great gourmet food. This BYOB has plenty of reserved street parking. It is located on the 2nd floor. I saw a solo person elevator and assume it works. Staff is very authentic and very courteous. Although it is basically Chinese, it also offers limited Thai and Japanese ( including sushi\ maki rolls. I go for the Chinese since we are all surrounded by those fast-food style Chinese places that all serve the same food. ( although the Mr Wok roll is very good. Here, everything is house made and authentic. Prepare yourself for the most amazing vegetable, shrimp, pork, or beef egg rolls. Excellent lo mein and fried rice ( with the egg in it!). Main courses such as Grand Marnier jumbo shrimp with candied walnuts in a glaze sauce with the fresh, greenest steamed broccoli Garlic chicken to make you stop eating and think, why am I eating that "meh" food at the fast food places. Shrimp and chicken with mango in a light sauce is another favorite there. Large portions so it's common to have extra to take home. If you want to really get acquainted with delicious Chinese food without going to Chinatown in NYC, then you should really start here. Prices are very fair for this quality of food and the portions. Highly recommended !!

It is so hard these days to find a good Chinese-Japanese-sushi spot and this it one of the few! The chicken wonton soup was absolutely delish. I usually don't drink the broth because it looks like dish water but I tried this one and it was AMAZING. I drank and ate the whole thing and I wish I bought another! Chicken lo mein was great. The chicken tasted like actual chicken. It was tender juicy and went perfectly with the noodles. It was super filling. I wasn't able to finish it all and I'm happy to have more for lunch the next day. The prices weren't bad especially for the portion size Overall, this was an amazing place and I would definitely order from here again!

They screwed up my initial order but fixed it so I give them props. My wife just wanted stir fry vegetables but they didn't have something like this so I ordered fried rice with veg and paid like 2x extra. Didn't have hardly any but they made it right and delivered to my housem. I originally picked it up. So I give them props for doing the right thing and customer service. 5 stars. TY

The place is nice and cozy. The service was excellent. The rolls were ok, only because the seaweed was too thick to chew through. It put a damper on our experience. I may try again another day.

I ordered assorted sashimi, it's all salmon. The salmon tasted pretty bad too! Tuna roll was alright.

It's not consistent. Tonight's meal was meh! No taste - and very expensive compared to others in the area.

Food is good, price is good but the the restaurant has a dirty carpet. And the smell is awful. Doesn't feel clean at all.

From the outside and inside, it really doesn't look like much. They're currently operating as take-out only - no dining in. The interior is a bit messy and disorganized, but you'll look past that once you try their sushi. Their menu offers your Japanese classics - regular sushi rolls, special sushi rolls, sashimi, bento boxes, udon, salads, soups, tempura, etc. I highly recommend their lunch and dinner specials - it's the best bang for your buck! Everything is reasonably priced and you'll get your money's worth. The full menu is available on their website. You have to call to place your order and then pick it up. You pay once you're there. I don't think they use third-party services anymore like Uber or DoorDash. I've been ordering their lunch special (3 rolls for ~$16 with complimentary soup or salad) and I'm always satisfied. My food takes around 15-20 minutes to be ready, which is very reasonable. I haven't had any issues with the service here. They are efficient, pleasant, and always get my order right. My favorite rolls are the spicy salmon, spicy tuna, and eel & avocado. The fish to rice ratio is perfect. They pack your rolls with a huge portion of fish. The rice is well seasoned with vinegar, sugar, and salt. The tuna and salmon are incredibly fresh and they're actually spicy!!! They even include a few complimentary pieces of deep fried California rolls. This is one of my go-to spots for a satisfying and filling sushi meal. And you cannot beat the price and value!

What's unique about Akai is that it's a joint Japanese and Mexican restaurant (not the case at the Westfield location). You can sit on either side and order from either menu. The Japanese side tends to be more quiet. I enjoyed the food here. I primarily had Japanese foodThe rock shrimp tempura as an appetizer continues to be a favorite. Chilean sea bass entree was well cooked. Fish was fresh and what I would expect per the price point. Fish tacos were the only thing ordered from the other menu. I would've liked it more had they spread the sauce evenly, maybe layered it on the fish as well and not just the top because the bite distribution is uneven. Service could have been a tad more friendlier. It's just not warm and inviting as it could have been.

I to tickets with my family to go to a show at the Bergen PAC and I thought we'd go to Akai (I miss Bennies). I knew they had moved to a combined location with Mexican (formerly Blue Moon) and I was a bit skeptical. The combination worked out great. We sat on the Japanese side. We mixed and matched between Japanese and Mexican menus and everyone was pretty happy. The Japanese side was more crowded than the Mexican side. There seem to be a bit of confusion with the wait staff (we had two waiters that seemed to serve us a bit repetitively), but they were friendly and I'd rather have too many check-ins than none.

4.5 stars A family…read moremember recently suggested that we grab dinner at Hanami, and when I went to look it up on Yelp, I noticed that I had bookmarked it with a note that it had been named the # 2 Chinese restaurant in Bergen County by a reader's choice poll (forgot the publication). Looking at the menu, I saw that they also offered a full Japanese selection with loads of sushi options. Everything sounded great, and I got excited for our meal. When we arrived, I was very impressed by the atmosphere, which was stylish, modern, and spacious. Our waitress was fine, but seemed to have a bit of a chip on her shoulder. Regardless, the food was excellent! The place was BYOB, but did have a Shirley Temple on the beverage section of the menu, which I thought was a cute alternative. As I mentioned, the food options were vast, which made it tough to decide how to proceed. In the end, I decided to get a single piece of sushi and a full Chinese entree. The piece of Eel Sushi I ordered was delivered as sashimi. When I noted the difference to the server, she looked at me like I was nuts, but asked if I wanted a bed of rice to put the fish on...I just said to forget it, since I already had a side of rice with my entree. It was just a weird exchange, but the eel was fresh and delicious. For my main course, I went with the Chicken and Eggplant with Spicy Garlic Basil Sauce and a side of brown rice. The meat was tender, the sauce had just the right amount of heat, and it was all just so flavorful! Plus, the portion was very generous. I tried a bite of the Spicy Asian Flower Herbs Chicken, which was noted as being "wok-sauteed in high flame for extreme spice". The diced chicken with red peppers and snap peas had been cooked with Szechuan peppercorns, but, thankfully, none of actual peppercorns were in the dish. So, there was certainly a level of spice, but actually not a ton of heat. It was really tasty, though! The rest of our party also enjoyed their meals, whether they were from Japanese or Chinese cuisine. I would definitely go back to Hanami, and it was great to find a delicious Asian restaurant in that area.
