I've been wanting to try this place for a while, so I finally ordered delivery. The delivery time was quoted 50-60 minutes. It came in 59. The food was hot and fresh. It looked great. Eggroll: standard. Nothing great, nothing horrible. It could've used more pork. Wonton Soup: the wontons were great! Thin wrappers and flavorful filling, but the broth was super super bland. Egg Foo Young: very good.....except for the gravy. Super bland. I had to add 2 soy sauce packets and even then, it was missing something. Pork Fried rice: I appreciated the fact that they didn't use yellow rice, but this was bland as well. It was fine since I was eating it with the Egg Foo Young and gravy, but I'd be disappointed it I ordered it on its own. Chinese Donuts: standard. Hard to mess these up. I won't completely rule this place out, but I was a bit disappointed. I see a lot of people like the lo mein and General Tso's/sesame/orange chicken with white rice, so I may give those a try one day. I don't Yelp much these days, but this place motivated me, compelled me. After ordering the second time and touring into dishes I EXPECTED to be bad and being amazed I HAD to log in and leave a review. I know you have head people say things like this before, but i'm NOT exaggerating when i say "you will NOT find better Chinese food in North NJ at this price-point within delivery radius of the River Edge, New Milford, Dumont, Ordadel area. Game over. Period. It puts Lotus in Hackensack to shame for less money. Here re some highlights: Dumplings: Made in house, not frozen and fried/steamed like 99.9% of spots (including lotus) Chicken: Not junk meant hidden in excess breading. No 0.0% mysterious "chewies" to be found Beef: (same as above) Order extra spice: They actually MADE it extra spicy, not the typical lazy red-pepper flake sprinkle, or side order of spicy oil. General Tso's: Thinly and tastefully breaded with a slight crisp to the crust (not that nasty, soggy, super thick junk you find at 95% of other spot. GREAT! Even the damn crunchy noodles they give you for the soup tasted home made. I could go on and on. Everything was as good re-heated the next day as it was freshly delivered. I'm an old-school Yelper (before corporate mucked it up) and I don't hype places up. If you live within delivery range of this place you are blessed. I ordered several items: Steamed Seafood dumpling was great. The dough was thin and had great texture. It came with a sauce I felt was only halfway filled. Small Beef with mushroom with small white rice. The beef with mushroom tasted savory. The portion size was smaller compared to sorrounding Chinese delivery restaurants. Other restaurants would've filled it. General tso chicken was dry. Sauce was OK. The chicken was very dry. I have trouble putting a fork through them. Usually the outer part of the chicken is covered with a crispy dough - mine was soggy. Again, container wasn't filled like other nearby restaurants. I ordered it with a medium sized rice - comparatively, other nearby restaurants this would be a small. $16 is too expensive for this general tsDumplingso chicken, and that's before tax, delivery fee, and delivery tip. Finding GOOD Chinese take-out (not just edible) seems to be as probable as winning a game of ring toss. That is- it's a slippery slope- which is why I always find myself debating whether or not to gamble my money on a new business when I could just order from the place I've traveled far and long to find. Sadly for me, Chen's was a let down and I wish I had stuck to what I know. Where Chen's fell short: 1. I ordered *sesame* chicken...but there were no seeds (see picture) 2. The lo mein was too oily 3. The *pork* fried rice had almost no pork, let alone any other vegetables in it 4. Both the lo mein and rice were pretty bland and light in color due to a lack of soy sauce 5. The hot and sour soup "broth" was gloppy and syrupy which made me not want to eat it 6. The won-ton soup had lighter, more delicate dumpling noodles which I rather enjoyed however, there was barely any filling and it also lacked flavor 7. I didn't enjoy the chinese noodle soup crackers which are usually my favorite 8. I called in to order a teriyaki lunch combo according to their menu, but was told they only have teriyaki on a stick Where Chen's succeeds: 1. The staff is friendly 2. My to-go order was ready in no time (exactly the estimated 15 min. they quoted me) and they even followed up with a phone call to notify me it was ready 3. The interior and behind the counter is clean and they have lots of dine-in seating 4. The beef and chicken were tender for the most part, not dry and stringy from over-frying 5. They offer some different options like: Mango Chicken and Shrimp, the Hawaiian Five, Seaweed Salad, Cheesecake Tempura, and Apple Sticks Unfortunately, the good didn't quite outweigh the bad, and for these reasons Chen's has been Chopped. read more

Was good last year and ok last week but tonight was poor. Nothing wrong with ordering American Chinese standards from the menu but these were below mediocre. Shrimp egg foo young bland and so was the generic brown sauce on the side. Sweet & sour shrimp was heavily breaded, dry & hard, served with a side of sweet (mostly) & sour sauce. Shrimp roll low on flavor, too. Hoped for a decent meal but hopes were dashed. It's a shame because the people who run this place are nice, hence two stars. I ordered general tso's chicken lunch with brown rice, boneless spare ribs with brown rice (as backup - yes call me fat lol), and Chinese donuts. Might I add that I LOVE general tso's chicken. The food is pretty bland most of the time, it's decreased in quality gradually and as such I've stopped going there. The dumplings are probably the best thing on the menu and the veggies are a nice touch. Beyond that, I'd avoid most of the chicken and beef options. read more

I must say, we love us some Chinese. This place is GREAT. I wish I took pics of the food, we just dug in. They are super friendly over the phone too. You must try their house special fried rice. I ordered from here when my regular Chinese food restaurant was closed because I really wanted Chinese. The food was good. The broccoli with garlic sauce does have a spicy kick to it. The portion sizes were about what I would normally get from my regular place but they are a little more in the expensive side. This might be our new Chinese spot! I am not sure how long they have been open but tonight was the first time they appeared in my local Yelp delivery search I do almost every Sunday night. The prices are VERY reasonable which made me a bit nervous but I'm happy we gave them a try because everything was great! You can order online very easily (they do not use a third party delivery service which was a plus for me) and the delivery time was about 30 min. The delivery guy was very sweet and had a big smile on his face which was refreshing. As for the food, we got a gigantic serving of boneless beef spare ribs which were very good, no complaints. The egg drop soup was divine- I can't stand when I get a tasteless or too salty version & theirs was perfect. We also got general tso's which comes with default all white chicken. I ALWAYS ask for all white chicken but they do it in every order which was nice. We are happy to say we will absolutely be ordering again!! read more

This place is pretty good. We've tried them out twice now and they definitely do not disappoint. Food is always fresh and hot and delivery is really fast. Ordering online is a plus and they usually have coupons you can add to your order Dishes that stand out: the sesame and honey chicken are both great Pork dumplings: this place has some of the best dumplings. just moved to Bergenfield from Old Tappan. Our favorite used to be China Pavilion in River Vale, and I still trek down there for pick ups. I decided, on this crazy snowy night to order from somewhere that would deliver, as I don't to like driving in the snow. We did a little research, and we were excited in the thought of finding something great, that would make us part easily with our long time fav. We ordered, sesame chicken, boneless ribs, steamed shrimp & broccoli,and fried rice. Total came to 60 something dollars. The food came in on time and they even gave us some wontons for free. Unfortunately the food was horrible. Ribs smelled upon opening the container, and they were more like boiled than broiled. I've had better sesame chicken, noting amazing. The steamed shrimp smelled like fish, and it had a weird coating on it. I guess I'll just have to keep on driving up to River Vale. What a waste! read more

I really wanted this place to be better than it was. This was our second try, but I think we're done now. The food just really lacks in flavor. I had wonton soup & it was very bland. I had to add Chinese mustard just to give it any flavor. My husband had shrimp fried rice & chicken in garlic sauce. He also said everything needed more flavor. And was just OK. He also ordered the dumplings which he said were very good though. This is one of the very few Chinese restaurants we order from. Their food is always delicious and our delivery has always been on time. The portions are huge, especially the teriyaki chicken and the broccoli is fresh and crisp, not limp like in other places. They also aren't stingy with the sauces, which is really good. read more

He repeated the order back clearly, to make sure it was correct. The order came within 40 mins, came piping hot & the delivery woman was very friendly as well. Ok...on to the food! We ordered 2 combo dinners: One Mongolian beef & one General Tso chicken (extra spicy). Also ordered wonton egg drop soup & boneless ribs. The food was so fresh & delicious. They make the chicken with white meat only (which I usually request & pay extra for) it was super spicy & cooked perfectly. Mongolian beef was also super spicy, tender & delicious. The egg rolls were one of the best I've ever had, not greasy at all & very flavorful. The wontons in the soup were so light & pillowy & the boneless ribs...incredible too! The sweet and sour chicken was good and so was the fried rice that I got, but what really wasn't good at all was the boneless spare ribs. They were extremely fatty and gross. I don't like tasting fat when I eat my spare ribs. There were pieces in there with no fat, but every other piece I bit into had fat in it and I had to spit it out. I'm not saying stay away from this place, just don't get their boneless spare ribs unless you like tasting fat with your ribs. read more

This place is great. It's the standard gutter-palette Chinese food that everyone knows of done well. It's not trying to compete with the high end places. No, it's $9 for their combos. And all their food is really fresh and well prepared. It's a noticeable difference in quality between all the other $9 places. Inside is always super clean and the staff is very friendly.
