Clean tasting. Got the general tso and chicken & broccoli with garlic sauce. Forgot my wallet and the lady was nice enough to for me to just provide the credit card number.

I try to stay away from the generic American Chinese food joints. You know the ones that all have the exact same menu. Well I was craving some pork fried rice so I stopped in the closest one. How can any Chinese restaurant screw up fried rice? Well not actually frying it might work. Sadly I ordered a large. I got a huge container of yellow rice mixed with pork, onions and bean sprouts. I choked it down with an egg roll (basic ok) and a wonton soup. Super thick noodle kind (meh). New Ho Wan out!

Typical small Chinese take out place. Friendly counter person. I ordered the boneless rib lunch special and a wonton soup. Food was hot, fresh and tasted good. I would definitely stop here again if I'm in the area.

I love New Ho Won!! I have been getting my Chinese food from here since I was a youngin!! I love the sweet and sour chicken w white rice combo, my mother gets the wonton soup and pork fried rice...It hits the spot every time. I usually call in and the service is quick and friendly. I love the old school ambiance with the fish tank and can never forget to grab an iced tea!!

Mozzarella sticks! Came with like 9 but we ate a few. Used to be better but still does the job.

River Edge, NJ - Wang's is a Chinese restaurant with a regional focus on Hunan cuisine, along with…read moreserving up your typical American-Chinese standards. It is similar to Sichuan/Szechuan cuisine in ways, in that there is an emphasis on spicy foods, although the spice profiles differ. It is in the space formerly occupied by a different Chinese restaurant called Joyce (RIP - I loved and miss their short-lived foray into seafood boils). Although there are many great authentic (meaning regionally specialized) Chinese restaurants in Bergen County and northern NJ, including several Sichuan places, this is the only Hunan one I'm aware of (without venturing further south into NJ), and is certainly one of the nicest Chinese restaurants atmosphere-wise, with an elegant dining room. If you want to try the interesting and authentic dishes, of which there are plenty, order from the sections of the menu labeled with "Hunan" or "Home Style." The soups and cold appetizers are very traditional too. The house speciality is the Hunan steamed fish head with pickled chili - the platter is quite impressive and takes 20-30 min to prepare. You can add tofu (recommended) or noodles for an additional $5. We ordered this but since I'm not a fish head fan (and like my fish very simply dressed) - I think it was a type of carp - the appreciation for it was lost on me. It's topped with a heap of red chilis but is actually not as spicy as it looks. Personally I prefer the fish fillet dishes such as the fish with ginger, which has very tender filet slices. I loved the soup dumplings (large and soupy), shrimp with salted egg yolk (or any salted egg yolk dishes, which aren't easy to find), and enjoyed the tender sautéed beef dishes like beef with spring onion or the spicy green pepper with steak, with crunchy peppers that give a piquant refreshing kick. They have whole Peking duck (Beijing roast duck)! The menu only shows pricing for the whole duck but we asked for half and they obliged. To be honest it's not the best Peking duck I've had but the balance of crispy skin (that's yet not too fatty) to generously shaved lean duck meat was unimpeachable. And they use high-quality crepes that are superbly thin but do not tear. The lo mein is also pretty good - it's slightly smoky and is better than common. Parking tip: there are only a few spots in front but there is a parking lot in the back of the building with plenty of spaces. There are lots of exciting and exotic menu offerings and still many we'd like to try, so we'll be back repeatedly.

This has been one of my favorite places to order Chinese from. I think they changed owners/chefs…read morerecently because it was absolutely awful the last time I ordered last week. To start, they got our order wrong, ok...It happens, but it all went downhill from there. The Sesame Chicken was completely overdone, it was like shoe leather, it's usually outstanding. It had about four sesame seeds on it. We asked for it extra spicy, and it didn't have even a hint of spice. They were supposed to send Beef with garlic sauce, instead they sent some absolutely tasteless chicken dish with what looked like boiled tiny strips of chicken with some vegetables and a TON of that gross baby corn. It was flavorless. We got the combos, so they came over pork fried rice and an egg roll. The rice was mealy, mushy and flavorless. We usually love their rice, it tasted entirely different. There was nothing fried about it, hands down worst pork fried rice I've ever had. The egg roll was hard and greasy with just cabbage inside. Again flavorless. The boneless ribs were just ok, nothing like how they usually are. They are usually very tender and flavorful. These were lacking flavor and fatty. The Wonton soup was completely different as well. What are usually pillowy soft wontons, were thick and gummy. The broth tasted like bath water. So the entirety of our meal tasted NOTHING like the Empire we know and love. This is so disappointing. The same thing happened with Chen's Yummy House. Every time that we find a great place, they change hands and it goes to crap. I just figured I'd warn everyone that this place is NOT the same. I thought maybe they just had a bad night, but I looked at recent Google reviews before posting this, and I see a similar complaint. This was so bad that I don't even think I'll give them another chance for redemption. Every single component of our meal sucked, and we were out $50.

Out of all the choices on the takeout menu, I decided to explore the two most popular plates. General Tso's Chicken Dinner Combo: The hot, spicy chicken is chewy on the inside while slightly crunchy on the outside; expect a mild kick. I'm satisfied broccoli was included, but my only critique is that I would have preferred that the vegetable was mixed in with the tangy sauce. Also included with this combo is pork fried rice and wonton soup. The three wontons and the broth were piping hot. The noodles go hand in hand with the soup. It is a win win whether you choose to have them dry or soaked. Boneless Spare Ribs Dinner Combo: The ribs are tender and chewy with a savory taste. For this combo, I explored the white rice and egg roll. This appetizer was filled with cabbage and ground pork. I enjoyed it, but the size of the egg roll could have been slightly larger with a tad bit more pork. Both combos can also be purchased as a lunch special if you arrive between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM. An adequate amount of seating is available if you decide to dine in. Empire Szechaun is open six days per week; arrive any day except Tuesday. I highly recommend this location if you are on the go and need a quick meal, especially the two popular menu items. #chinesefood #chinesetakeout #generaltsoschicken #bonelessspareribs #eggrolls #wontonsoup #whiterice #porkfriedrice #dinnercombo #foodstagram #localbusiness #chinesebusiness #foodreview #foodstagram #njfoodie
