Your basic no frills Americanized Chinese restaurant. It's a little dingy looking, as you would expect most of these establishments to be, and they offer your typical Americanized Chinese food menu and par prices for 2025. I ordered a Chicken with Mixed Vegetables Lunch Special with Roast Pork Fried Rice and it came with a drink/soup/egg roll. The Chicken with Mixed Vegetables was what it was. It was nothing extraordinary, but hit the spot if this is what you're craving. One thing that I did not like and, it was sort of my fault, was the bamboo smell and flavor inside of the entree because ... well ... there was bamboo in there, which I should have told them to take out when I ordered it. However, there was plenty of sauce in the entree for me to mix with my fried rice, so that was a major plus. Like I said, it is what is. We only know about this place due to a neighbor in our building + our Concierge begrudgingly seconding it + 1 of our parking Valets heaped praise on it also and gave us a menu. It's strange because it is a Chinese restaurant with a full blown Fried Chicken menu as if there were 2 entities in 1 space. We tried this place for the first time this evening. MSG must be a big thing here as EVERYTHING has too much sodium. Egg rolls came out dark which is a clear indication that the deep-frying oil needs to be changed. Chicken w/Garlic Sauce was supposed to be a HOT & SPICY dish...we even requested EXTRA HEAT...it was NOT [threw it in the garbage]! Beef w/Broccoli was OK, with what little beef there seemed to have in it, maybe 10 pieces total. Fried rice was good, the steam pork dumplings was good and the dipping sauce is excellent!. When you walk into a Chinese takeout place and it has plexiglass encasement/shielding separating them from the customer with a microphone for them to place order to the cook, it's either a leftover from Covid phase OR that should tell you everything about the place you ever want to know. Ambiance = "No frills", no care look. I see now why when asking our Concierge if he preferred this over "Dumpling Chinese" [Our #1; other review], he chose the latter. No frills Chinese restaurant. It has the typical Chinese restaurant options. They charge more for fried rice. The prices are competitive. The General tsos chicken was good and sweet. We've ordered from all of the take out Chinese restaurants in our area in the last 15yrs and My China Cafe has been the only constant. From the 1st time til today. The food is not greasy. Not salty. It's Americanized Chinese food. Steve and Jenny is always friendly. They remember my husbands voice. And they always remember our favorite dish hehehe. When we 1st moved to NJ we found them and we've gone down the menu and settled on a few items: Chicken and Tofu in Garlic Sauce is perfect. This is our go to when we just want something quick and inexpensive. I order is enough for us to share. General Tsos Chicken is crispy outside and tender inside with just the right sauce. Seems like there are a lot of hot and cold reviews for this place, so perhaps I ordered at the right time, but I was really impressed with my order here. We ordered close to closing time and got a half fried chicken with vegetable fried rice and buffalo wings with chicken lomein. The half fried chicken was one of the best I've had from a takeout Chinese place. The skin was crisp and the meat was hot and juicy. The chicken seemed to be very fresh since most places you can tell it's old chicken cause the meat is chewy and dry and the skin is way too tough. The vegetable fried rice was loaded with vegetables and the flavor was good. The lomein was also fantastic. The buffalo wings had great buffalo flavor (lots of places really screw up the buffalo flavor) but I think the wings were coated with too much sauce as they lost some crisp during transit. I waited until my 2nd time ordering food from here to review. #1 message to management : change the frying oil once in a while. SOOO easy to tell when they don't as fried foods come out dark, hard crunchy, and with an odd taste. I ordered the Triple Delight with beef, shrimp, and chicken. greasy mess that you could see the oil. Satay chicken sticks were over cooked, hard on the outside, and greasy dark meat chicken on the inside. Fried pork dumplings had an odd meaty center. I've eaten this type of "fast food"Chinese food for over 35 years at many, many places all over NJ and sorry this is one place that I will just skip a meal before ordering again. read more

Chinese take out joint with a few surprising authentic dishes. I was feeling some wonton noodle soup on a rainy Saturday, but I wasn't about to drive to Chinatown. Fortunately, i discovered that My China Cafe was still open at 10:30pm, so my friend and I drove over to grab some food. They have a surprising number of authentic Chinese menu items. I ended up ordering the roast pork wonton noodle soup, the West Lake soup, and a few pieces of Magician fried chicken. The roast pork wonton noodle soup was a bit disappointing, since the wontons were typical of other Chinese takeout places and the broth was bland. Price wasn't bad though. The magician fried chicken is skinless fried chicken. Whatever the batter is, it's seasoned well. The chicken is good and it's cheap. West Lake soup is my favorite Chinese soup. Initially, it came with no cilantro, the signature ingredient of the soup. I inquired, and the chef was impressed by my knowledge of traditional Chinese food, stating that the cilantro isn't included by default because many people complain about it. I got laid off from my job in Hackensack, which was a few blocks away, in June. I got a new job quickly but they are outside the delivery zone. I'm so sad. My new job is in Oradell. Such bad Chinese food over there. Horrible. I can't take it. I miss My China Cafe tremendously. Ordered delivery for this place. Came in a perfectly timely manner. Ordered chicken and broccoli lunch special with wonton soup, cheese wontons, and homemade ice yea. That Ice yea they make is rocking. I normally never get that from anyway and I'm very happy theirs was delishhh. The chicken and broccoli was good too. Their amount of meat to vegetable to rice was good. Their rice was realllly good. The crab wontons were the only iffy thing. They were way over cooked and barely anything in the inside. My China Cafe is literally the best chinese food place I've found since moving to Hackensack. Their food is always delicious and they always appreciate customer loyalty. I ordered general Tao chicken combo. The rice was mushy and tasted of old oil. The egg roll was filled with way more oil and grease than any other Chinese food place I have been to. I called and told them about it and they said if you haven't touched your food we can do something about it. How else would I know the food was horrible if I didn't taste it? Never again. Good chinese food took a lil long on my grub hub order but it was ok got it fresh when it came in. Ordered crab Rangoon, it was made with real crab and crab was the main ingredient not the cheese, they added spices too. Usually it's just cheese. Also ordered hot and sour soup. Perfect consistency with a mixture of fresh mushrooms not just button. Hot but not too hot (spicy). Also shrimp egg rolls. Again mostly shrimp not overstuffed with lettuce and sprouts. I just moved to Hackensack, and have been ordering from a bunch of random places to find the best of the best. Let me tell ya-- this place is it. I'm pretty picky when it comes to my Chinese food, and when I first tried this place, I texted all my friends to tell them about it and encouraged them to come over and try it. Their chicken and broccoli is the best I've ever had. Their general tso's is filled with flavor and their boneless spareribs are to die for. My friend and I also decided to try their sugar donuts, and upon trying it, I wondered why all Chinese places don't offer this. They're amazing. The food is less than average, I've tasted much better Chinese food. But, more importantly, they're less than honest. If they can get away with it, they'll charge you more than the price listed on the menu. you have to be very careful. I was going to order from King Wok on River Road by Shoprite. Too bad that the don't accept CC, but it made me turn to My China Cafe. I'm glad I did. The fried chicken wings weren't greasy and the food wasn't too salty.Their fried batter on General Tso's chicken was the crispiest I've ever had. It is Chinese food, so it's not going to be healthy, but their food tasted relatively fresher and the ingredients seemed to be better quality than other joints in the area. I don't like to give places just one star. I like to think they try and deserve at least two stars, but if i could give this place no star, I most def. would. We ordered take out here - we were fine with the wait (not too long) and staff was friendly. But, the food was just terrible. The Chicken and broccoli was not the best - the rice tasted old and over cooked. The boneless rib tips is what did it to this place. They were just disgusting. (I'm very sorry to have to say that) - The sauce tasted like a blob of ketchup and sugar mixed into it. It was so bad we didn't eat it. We threw it out right away. Well my husband and i have been on a quest to find chinese food we both like. I read my fellow yelpers reviews for my china cafe and convinced hubby to give them a try. Of note my husband judges a good chinese food place by whether they have fried chicken wings or not (don't ask) and this place does so we called for delivery. We ordered general tso's chicken and chicken and broccoli. The food arrived hot and the portions were a good size. My husband thought the food was bland and lacked flavor. I thought the general tso's was pretty good. I can see what my husband meant regarding the flavor. Most chinese food is salty or has a really thick sauce but this food didn't which i actually liked. We did appreciate the chicken was good quality. so why two stars? my husband found MULTIPLE pieces of hair in his food. for the record my hubby is bald so we know it wasn't self-contamination. one piece of hair i might be able to overlook but three was too much and the rest of the food went into the garbage. alas, the search continues... read more

Quick delivery (less than 1/2 hour), fresh food, and we also received free fried cheese wantons probably because they're new. It's too bad they didn't rent out the old "Chicken Magician" space which is still vacant since they shut down. Most people don't go down Linden St so they might have trouble building their customer base. But check it out. read more

None of the cooks and cashier wore a mask. When politely asked about the masks a man replied "If you worry, don't come!" Went in with a special request, not expecting a lot; even with these great reviews here. But yay! They had it: the marvelous Hua Jiao (green peppercorn) that makes everything so tasty and not too spicy (which was actually the chef's work according to my request). He asked why I knew they had Hua Jiao. I said I didn't, but that a friend told me that this place will make their food to your order if you tell them exactly how you want it. I wanted spicy food, but not the red pepper spicy - the Hua Jiao spicy, which I've only been able to find in Edison, where I work. My friend was right, but there was a bit of luck involved because the chef said that they're the only ones that have the Hua Jiao in the area. And the reason they have it is because many students at the nearby Fairleigh Dickenson Univ. are from northern China, where this spice is popular. So I had him put some Hua Jiao in my Beef & Scallion dish, as well as the Mapo Tofu. Boy, were they delicious! I prefer no carrots and green peas in my Mapo Tofu but some ground pork and more scallions, so next time, I'll request as such and I'm sure they will oblige.
