Lunch specials seem fairly priced, but the value is arguable because they sneak so much rice off to the side and even under your entree of choice, making it a pretty small serving in the end. I've also noticed that beef orders are touch and go, because the meat pieces tend to be rather tough. That said, I love the seasoning and saucing here. Tough meat aside, their beef and string bean meal has become one of my recent favorites. My husband raves about their spicy Chinese eggplant dishes, and he's been pretty happy about any chicken dish he's ordered. So many the golden rule is to stick with chicken over other proteins? Unlike other Chinese takeout spots in the area, they don't take delivery orders. Delivery orders can be fulfilled either through UberEats or through their website, which seems to outsource orders to another delivery service. I've used the nameless delivery service once and got the order just fine, but the ordering process is somewhat inflexible (e.g. my husband's favorite order from the lunch special menu isn't available as a standalone entree and there's no way to make those requests through the website, so we had to do a pickup order just so we could ask a person to make it happen). Got dinner from here the other night and everything was really good! I'm always hesitant to get sesame shrimp because there's normally more breading than shrimp but this sesame shrimp was done really well. So I decided to try this spot for lunch and I ordered online. I scheduled a pick up for 11:45am. When I arrived I parked on the street and walked up. The door was locked due to Covid. A nice lady came around and asked my name. I told her and she brought out the food. I paid and she helped me bring the food to my car. I thanked her and left. Just ordered takeout from here for the first time. They delivered on time as promised. We have been looking for a good Chinese food restaurant for some time now. Everything we had was tasty and fresh. The egg rolls and fried Dumplings were on point. The boneless spare ribs were were ok but maybe a little too sweet. Tonight we ordered and the minute we got our food I smelled fish/seafood. We didn't order any seafood. Went through each item and found it was beef of a stick. Chances are the meat went bad. I called back letting the person on the phone know and she was instantly so defensive. Instead of trying to come up with a solution she kept saying that's normal. Normal for beef to smell like fish? This was just not a good experience. Ordered delivery which proceeded to take an hour and a half to get to us on a quiet Tuesday night. No delivery should ever take that long. I have been desperate to find a Chinese take out place in the area. Szechuan Empire in Dumont is by far the best I've had, but unfortunately close to my parents and not me. I'm not exactly sure if this is THE place but it definitely deserves another try. First off, everyone was right - the woman who answers the phone is the nicest person I've ordered delivery from. She was totally accommodating and just all together sweet. That alone makes me want to order from there again. The shrimp Lo mein was okay, but I admittedly have high standards. It doesn't compare to Szechuan Empire in regards to flavor and how al dente I prefer the noodles to be. The chicken mooshu was the cleanest and freshest I've ever had so that got 2 thumbs up for me. We wanted a tofu dish, but the online menu didn't have many options. We ordered the chefs special and while there were meaty pieces the flavor wasn't what we expected. We now have a copy of their updated menu with more tofu options. $25 got us free fried rice which was a great bonus since we were going to order it anyways. Unfortunately they no longer had scallion pancakes that day (I also didn't see it on their new menu). Tried this Chinese spot last night since it was close to home. They delivered the food in 20 mins. And the prices are competitive to other places near by. I would the chicken and broccoli was one of the best have had for a Chinese takeout. But the general tso chicken was average and so was the boneless spareribs. I put specific instructions on how to get to my apartment being that I live in a new building. The layout can be confusing, and I wanted to make sure the delivery guy did not get lost. Instead of the delivery man reading the instructions on the receipt, he chose to leave my food outside the building on the floor and sent me a text stating that my food have been delivered and provided a picture of the food on the floor. Had he text me and stated that I needed to come downstairs. I would have, but I never received such a text. The food...they have a dollar Egg Roll that will make you jones for another a day later. Just well put together, what can I say? Dumplings, spare ribs, some magical sesame wonton, shrimp toasts, chicken wings...all so very good. You can't pick a bad appie. We judge Chinese Take-out on their Lo Mein, their Mu Shu, and if we are very lucky, there is a Shrimp dish that coats them in a white sauce, usually citrus, coconut or gran marnier-flavoured. Here, they have Shrimp in Coconut Sauce. Oh my my. Greatness right there. Never had something like that? Order the damned dish already. Any of their beef dishes are tender and not smothered in veggies, already huge for me. Of note, their Crispy Beef, Mongolian Beef, Sesame Beef. Chicken you can find anywhere and Kitchen's no different with their offerings -- but it's just done, well, BETTER. Anything pork is always better than anything not pork. When two of us order dinner, we kind of go nuts and have enough for the next evening, so it's not uncommon to ring up a $50 tab. That's a lot of food, dear reader. The free stuff they throw in when you spend certain amounts is really generous and they don't have to do that, but they do. And that $50 tab? We include an order of Steamed Pork Dumplings, which come in the cutest little divider to-go container, for our son. And there's enough for tonight...did I mention we were there last night? We've lived in the area for 10 years and it's been our mission to find good Chinese food. We keep trying new places because we can't stand the taste of most Chinese frozen processed "white meat" chicken.
