Mr Henry's I just GREAT! I was recently transfered from Boston to DC for my job (not a wanted transfer) Friday August 21st. we arrived in DC to our new home after a long drive with two cranky boys in the car. The moving van was late, when it finally arrived and stared unloading we were ready to starngle someone. It was not long before we discovered a few pieces of furniture had been badly damaged (the wife was very upset). After a long tedious 2 hours everything was in the house, the kids were miserable and my wife was "un happy" to put it mildly. We decided to walk up to Pennsylvania Ave. in search of some food. We stumbled on Mr. Henry's and the patio looked inviting so we we walked up and asked for a table, it was busy and we were told we would have a short wait. Well, the kids by this time were beyond comforting as was my wife so I told the waiter we would find something else. The waiter assured us we would be seated shortly, brought a few chairs out on the sidewalk, got us some lemonade, teased the kids until they were satisfied for a few minutes. We were seated in about 10 minutes, got our order in and before we knew it the food was served and everyone was happy! What was a miserable day turned into a great eveing on the patio with Wayne and Bruce. Great food and fast service a happy wife and two smiling kids, what more could I ask for. We are now regulars at My Henry's and cannot miss Tuesday night's "Kids Night" where kids eat free in a controlled mayhem atmosphere...the kids love it! I can only say thank you to those two guys for making a really, REALLY bad day great. It was a nice welcome to DC (didn't even seem to mind the parking ticket we got that afternoon). Mr Henry's is a very comfortable neighboorhood pub where it seeems everyone knows eachother and where we are now part of the family. Where else can you let your kids run wild on Tuesday night and no one even raises and eyebrow? Oh, and the burgers are outstanding!! Thanx guys, we love you!!! read more

Can I give this place two ratings? I give it two stars during the day and five stars at night. Lunchtime service is slow but the food is simply fantastic. Dinner is better than lunch. The servers colorful and fun!! And I love them! We love the magic 8 ball. They also have hand sanitizer if you ask for it. They always have character. I love the brownie sundae my divine favorite. I am NOT fond of the blue table cloths but I LOVE the newer cleaner bathrooms they now have! Bring back the red checker table cloths please. My biggest complaint is that they don't have WAFFLES or a breakfast buffet like they use too. I simply LOVE Miss Cathy in the evenings at her bar. And I love the live Jazz, especially the ladies of Jazz on Saturday evenings. The upstairs can get very crowded, because just like Ted's bulletin, the tables are too large. I sincerely hope that the new management does not renovate the downstairs and destroy the business like hawk and dove ( which is the only place I have ever given one star to.) my favorite dishes are the flatbread pizza and the happy toast that is a special dish on the breakfast menu. read more

We had planned to go to Le Diplomat tonight to eat, but major storms prevented us. Because our VRBO was really close to Mr. Henry's we decided to walk the block and go there. When we walked in we were greeted by a person who was so incredibly rude.. this person INSISTED very verbally that we must show our vaccine documentation and our ID's... uuhh no... yeah just sorry but no.. there are literally 10 restaurants in the block and none required this. It really was if we were in Nazi Germany and we were Jewish and they wanted to see our documentation. When we said no that's alright we will just eat elsewhere this woman/man .. was heard going "Yay!! They aren't eating here" very loudly... we walked down the street one block over and spent $400 on steak dinner with wine at a wonderful restaurant. Left a $50 tip... I would say that Mr. Henry's treated us EXACTLY like Warsaw Poland Jews who were refused service. If you value what America stands for "Freedom" then I would say avoid this restaurant at all costs. NEVER EVER EVER GIVE THEM A DIME OF YOUR MONEY. read more

I run a small, casual organization in Washington DC and was looking for a place to host a happy hour event for about 20-30 people. Mr. Henry's was the perfect location for us. When I reached out, management responded very promptly and was willing to discuss a set up that would suit our group's needs. Having hosted a few casual events in this city, I know this kind of interest and attention can be hard to find. We used the second floor, which was a perfectly sized space that provided the benefits of a private party that felt cozy and welcoming. Attendees very much enjoyed the food and drinks. Most importantly, the staff couldn't have been more attentive and friendly. They regularly checked in to make sure tables were cleared and attendees were satisfied. We also enjoyed the seamless transition into bluegrass night, which was a great addition to our happy hour. If you're looking to feel welcomed and treated well for a casual, enjoyable evening with friends, Mr. Henry's is your spot! read more

Sadly, I have to consider this visit a total failure. We went because they have half price burgers on Monday night. The burger was a poor example of a classic American favorite. The burger was tasteless, the bun fell apart and the additions also lacked flavor. The place is kind of dingy and the service, although pleasant, was slow. We were made to show proof I'd vaccination, which didn't sit right with me. We were told that this is done due to a high number of staff and customers are immune compromised. Do they require any other verification of diseases? Should I be concerned? Between the poor dining experience, I think I will continue to go down the road to Virginia for my dining outings a bit longer. read more

I don't understand the good reviews. Sure the onion rings and fried zucchini sticks are good but that is it. The Bloody Mary's were also good. The burgers seem to be bubba burgers. The homemade fries are as soggy with grease as possible. No Guinness on draft. The breakfast options barely exist (massive fail as brunch option). The seats are very uncomfortable and definitely watch the picture frames behind you when you sit on a bench. I love the divey atmosphere and seems like a chill place to hang out but that is it. So it is okay for drinking if you don't mind bottled beer or mixed drinks but not good for food IMO. read more

This place is an institution on Capitol Hill for those both thirsty and in need of good conversation. If you prefer, say, Clarendon-style mundanity, Mr Henry's may not be for you. You should still go to find out for sure, though. The patio is the perfect place to sip the day away. Great in combination with an Eastern Market stroll or as a bike excursion mid-point. Don't forget to ask your waiter about the history of the shutters, which have found a new place. read more

The new owners ruined a neighborhood institution and should be ashamed of keeping the name. It is not Mr. Henry's anymore. This restaurant can be any other boring restaurant in the neighborhood...expensive food, unfriendly service staff, atmosphere where people are just another paycheck money. We had a 15 minute wait in the chilly doorway only to sit at a small table in a very crowded corner. The music was loud and a bit wierd but the drinks were strong so that was a plus. My burger was average at best but my girlfriend's chili was pretty good. We happened to return later in the week for Sunday brunch (upstairs) and found it to be quite tasty. I recently dined at Mr. Henry's Restaurant on Capitol Hill, and it was a great! The outdoor seating offered a charming atmosphere, perfect for enjoying a beautiful day. The service was attentive, and the food was delicious--especially the Crabcake sandwich. Highly recommend for anyone looking to enjoy outdoor dining on a beautiful day! read more

I went to Mr. Henry's for lunch and was served by Cheryl she was very friendly and helpful explaining the menus. The food was excellent and the service from Cheryl was top notch. Mr. Henrys has been my favorite place to go for Sunday brunch for 20 years. I always go to Mr. Henrys for great food, views, and atmosphere. A must see for the anyone visiting DC. read more

The room is beautiful and the wine list is excellent. However, the food is very average, certainly not worth the size of the check.
