Yum! My boyfriend and I used to go to the one in Newport Beach and Dana Point, but since he moved to Irvine, we are so lucky they have another location here in Costa Mesa! Unfortunately, the do not have the friands (my boyfriends favorite) and no fresh squeezed OJ as of 12/6. If one of those items comes to the Costa Mesa store, you will see us every weekend! I was happy to hear that Moulin opened up at SoCo in Costa Mesa. This French cafe doesn't have as many offerings as their main Newport Beach location, however I am happy to report that the quality here is just as good! They offer sandwiches, fresh squeezed orange juice, coffees, and of course their rich and decadent pastries. I ordered a nutty bar and pear tart to go. Nutty Bar ($6.50) - . The nutty bar can best be described as a gourmet snicker bar. It's every chocoholic's dream come true! The combination of dark chocolate, caramel, peanut, and hazelnut left me in a state of ecstasy. I've had their chocolate hazlenut tart at their main location and enjoyed that one as well. If you are a chocoholic like me, this is the place to go to get one's fix! Pear Tart ($5) - Normally I wouldn't get a tart, but I read all these rave reviews about their pear tart so I had to try it. The tart is made up of a rich and buttery almond sable dough. Marzipan is one of my favorites, and so I definitely appreciated the usage of almond sable dough. The pear tart was delicious and I'm glad I ordered it. Overall the pastries served here are some of the best you will find and I definitely will stop by when I'm in the area. Customer service was excellent and friendly here. I was walking around SoCo & The Mix and came across this bakery. It didn't have a line so my boyfriend and I decided to check it out and I'm so glad we did! The desserts were absolutely delectable. We had the lemon tart and chocolate tart and I'd definitely get them again. Came here a few days ago to pick out some cakes. Also got the chicken pesto sandwich. This is cold, but I could tell it is fresh upon opening it up. I wanted the sandwich warm, so I toasted it a bit when I got home and it was amazing. The bread is super airy and crunchy. The chicken is thinly sliced and very nicely flavored. The pesto was really the highlight of it all. It wasn't overpowering at all. It also seems like they added some sort of light mayonnaise in the sandwich that gave a buttery effect on the bread. Super tasty, would get again. Onto the cakes. These are quite pricey, but soo tasty. My favorite one was the Mont Blanc. I've never tasted a cake with so much texture before. The thin piece of chocolate cookie/biscuit added so much flavor to the cake. I also loved how smooth the cake was and that meringue in the center was a nice surprise. Would definitely get it again. The next best one is the Saint honore. This cake is on the heavier side and I think it's best shared. The puffs with the hard sugar coating is very interesting. The creams are light, though I wish the pastry cream in the center was a bit less solid and more creamy. Lemon tart- not too sour or sweet, just right. The crust tastes so good. Raspberry mille feuille - this was good but my least favorite one. Loved the fresh raspberries but the pastry tasted slightly burnt. It didn't look burnt but tasted like it. The insane amount of lovely pastries looked so good, it was tough to pick one, but we decided on the Easter chocolate bomb pastry to go w/a mocha, coffee and an iced tea. Also got a lovely French baguette to-go to make sandwiches w/. The Easter bomb cake was so beautifully decorated, and tasted so moist and delicious! You can tell high-quality Belgian chocolate was used (this one stood out for us in comparison to the 6-layer chocolate cake from SusieCakes which was ok)! I've seen this place around whenever I got to Portola, and it's my biggest shame to admit that I just recently gave it a try. Their cherry tart? Freaking fantastic. It's so buttery and moist, but still have a solid texture, and their cherries aren't sour at all. Almond croissant? No complains from me. Beautiful and flaky with generous amount of almond in every bite. I recently tried their passionfruit mango, and holy crap, the sweetness was just right with lovely fruits-to-cream ratio. Canelé - I've had better from another Viet French bakery (E Patisserie), but I'm just glad that they had these (bc it's so hard to find them at local bakeries). Located in on the bridge at south coast plaza, it is a cute adorable street vibe cafe hidden underneath the staircase. We arrived around 2pm, but they already sold out of most of their stuff. They serve the authentic French pastries and baguettes. The baguette is soft and chewy but has a hard shell crunch exteriorly. The flan is different than the Vietnamese or Spanish plan which is softer in texture and creamier. It was my first time trying the French version of flan, I think it was interesting. It's not too sweet. The pastry shell is crunchy. The citron fraise has a nice lemon citrus kick. It's not too sweet either. The tart shell is a little hard for my taste. Almond Pear Tart - Highly Recommended! The flavors of almond (like almond jello) and pear meld perfectly together, and in just one bite, you can tell how fresh it is. Trop Peu de Fromage! I want to taste all and I will, but this time, I only got a small OJ and a sandwich: (1) Orange juice: fresh squeeze from the "orange machine", no ice, it's heaven, but pricey. For the price of a small cup ($4.50), you could have a 1L or .75L bottle in Paris from the same "orange machine" everywhere. So, the oranges in Orange County are more expensive than the oranges in Paris?!  (2) Jambon et Fromage sandwich: The bread was like baguette tradition. So good with thicker crust just like in Paris. Jambon was a kind of jambon blanc ordinaire, delight, not salty as American ham. Fromage: a couple of paper-thin slides of swiss-cheese. Where was my fromage? I wanted to cry. Baguette tradition without a decent fromage is a waste... Well, I ate half of the sandwich, brought home the other half, gave it "more cheese", and life was good again.  The pastries look so beautiful, same as those in one of the upscale boulangeries in Paris. This gem deserves 5-star in my heart, gotta remove 1-star because I had to "BYOC" or "BYOF" (bring your own cheese) to make it the perfect yummy sandwich. I was in with my girlfriend today it was about 2 o'clock in the afternoon people were there, but it wasn't all that busy. We ordered a latte and a coffee. we had to go in and get our coffees after waiting we wondered what happened. They were just sitting there getting cold Had Two croissants, which they refused to heat up... very disappointed since they weren't very busy at all. The almond croissant is very good but it sure would've been nice to have it heated up. Quiche was good but not spectacular. We had to bus our own table and ask somebody to wipe it off. The staff was very nice, but they could've been more attentive and aware of what needs to be done, like bussing the table. They are wonderful and always have great service at this location. While it's not a restaurant, you can still pick up the same great pastries, coffee, and to-go sandwiches that are made fresh every day. I want to give a special shout-out to Employee Elodie' who went above and beyond customer service to make me feel special when she could tell I was having a bad day.
