I hope we all use the same English language. This is clearly saying "by slice"

I usually enjoy Moulin cafés and have visited many of their locations, but this one was by far the worst experience I've had. I came specifically to buy a slice of Galette des Rois, which was clearly labeled "by the slice" in the display. One of the employees refused to sell a slice and insisted I had to buy the whole cake. When I pointed out that the sign explicitly said it was sold by the slice, instead of clarifying or apologizing, she changed the explanation and said she "couldn't slice it." What makes this more frustrating is that this is not the first issue with service here. My husband complained during a previous visit, and this time I personally experienced the same dismissive and unprofessional attitude from the same two young employees. This seems to be a recurring problem, not an isolated incident. What's disappointing is that I've also been served here before by another staff member - an older French woman who provided excellent, warm, and professional service, which shows that the issue is clearly staff-related, not the brand. If something is not available by the slice, the signage should reflect that. Customers should not be met with changing explanations instead of honesty and proper service. I hope the owner or management takes this seriously and addresses the ongoing service issues at this location. Update: Today was my very first time trying Galette des Rois, and I couldn't be happier. Thanks to Mr. Laurent's kindness, this long-awaited experience became truly special. The galette was phenomenal -- delicate, rich, and absolutely authentic. I'm so grateful for the care and generosity. This is the kind of hospitality that makes you want to come back again and again. Thank you!

This Moulin location is actually a very special & unique one, at the SoCo & The OC Mix complex in Costa Mesa, because this is where the dedicated bakers come in while most others in California are fast asleep (or maybe wishing they were) and create all of the pastries and cakes from scratch for early morning deliveries to all of the Moulin locations (in coastal South Orange County). As a result, most likely, the kitchen staff go home earlier than most or all of the cafe business hours and therefore this location doesn't make anything to order that is usually on the menu at other Moulin cafe locations, except for their super authentic & awesome crêpes, but they do have pre-made sandwiches, salads, and, of course, a nice selection of pastries and cakes, along with a fascinating array of cool drinks imported straight from France... the really neat thing also is that both of the staff members that were present today, a younger gentleman and a slightly older lady, were so exceptionally eager to tailor the best customer experience possible by being down-to-earth, friendly, intelligent, happy to go the extra mile(s), and of a very cultivated level of professionalism. The people at Moulin are so amazing & exemplify incredible teamwork!! The patio tables outside with the awesome red umbrellas specifically for Moulin customers are utterly picturesque and kind of transport customers to Paris at the same time... a really great way to recharge and enjoy seriously gourmet foods, with options for nutrition-seekers as well as epicures, made fresh to the highest standards of quality and cleanliness. Today, I enjoyed a La Mûre ("the blackberry") cake which dazzled all of my senses except the sense of sound (but this is debatable), and tasted absolutely divine in its delicate complexity and harmony of textures, colors, shapes, and tastes. I also reveled in a Crêpe Strawberry Jam, made to order by the talented younger gentleman, and noted the very delicate natural taste of the crêpe that was cooked to what I'd consider perfection, along with the authentic strawberry preserves jam (imported from France) that when combined, gives a really compelling taste of France - and Moulin makes the best crêpes I've ever eaten anywhere!! I love being a Moulin customer with my heart, mind, and soul and am very grateful to the people that keep what could very well be an impressive and respectable dream, an actual reality that inspires people with its art of visionary leadership and the granularity of commitment to creating Parisian-like atmospheres outside of France to just about every detail imaginable and attainable. The Moulin team is all about magic!!

Genuine French baker making delicate and flakey traditional and innovative pastries. The wonderful variety is executed picture-perfect with full, rich flavors that are not overly sweet like some bakeries.

I discovered this place while driving around in Costa Mesa. This was my second visit. Since it was a short visit, I will definitely come back to try the ready-made items to go, where you can select sandwiches, salad, hot food items, pastries, desserts, bread, fruits, drinks, and etc. They also sell other items like household items, wine, jams, teas, etc. No matter which day you go, this place is always packed. They have several locations in OC. The dining area is small inside, but plenty of table outside. There is a beautiful water fountain outside. The parking is a little tricky as you will have to go around few times before you can find a spot. Ordered: Flan Chocolate - It was different texture and taste than the traditional flan. It goes nice with the hot tea. Pain Au Chocolat - I love anything with chocolate inside the croissant. Past Items Ordered: Fresh squeezed OJ, Apple Tart, Mille-Feuille (puff pastry with cream) - All the items are shareable and delicious.

    Quiche Lorraine

Every time we come here, it never disappoints! Absolutely delectable desserts that are as stunning and gorgeous as they are tasty to eat. We so enjoy the fruity black iced tea and this time around we tried the Quiche Lorraine. Oh My! Such a generous slice and so light and creamy! We had the rest for brunch the next day. It came with mixed greens and a house vinaigrette. It is so nice to have such a quality cafe. The lemon tarts were excellent, nice and perfectly tart and beautiful.

I would not recommend if you are not taking it out. 1. There is no microwave to heat the food up. 2. By the time I ordered my food and went to sit down, the food was cold. I couldn't eat the food. The pasta was cold, the potatoes were cold, the brisket was cold... vegetables was cold. Sitting area outside was so cold and windy... everything kept flying away( like the tissues) It's was just chaotic. I walked up to the register , I explained my ordeal and requested to heat up my food but they said they do not. A representative (maybe the manager) came to me and offered me food on the house, this made me feel better , because I already trashed my food. One thing I did like from here tho is the orange juice and latte. It is Fresh & Nice

I was excited to give Moulin a try since I've heard many good things. Upon entering the store, I was looking for the hot food menu but was told only the Newport Beach location has that. I was bummed since I saw posts on this page that showed the hot food section. That aside, the workers were very friendly and attentive. I tried some pastries and they were good. Location is great inside the OC mix. Plenty of parking and great shops all around.

Moulin is outdoor seating only, but the mall is very nice and you sit by the fountain. They have a good variety of pastry, coffee, and food options. It all looks very nice and tasty. The chocolate almond croissant I got was not as flaky as I was hoping and was on the sweeter side. The apple turnover was also okay, but not that flaky. Maybe they would both taste better toasted. The fruit tart was probably the best out of the three things we got. Iced mocha was also refreshing, but pretty standard.

Nice assortment of breakfast pastries. I got a yummy little apricot pastry and chocolate mocha with a small chocolate square to go with it. $8 for both Shop is small with only one table inside which was occupied by employees. Plenty of tables outside but too cold for a chilly morning. Took it across the way to an open table area.

The figs were tasty, but the duck was disappointing to most of us. Someone had the Scottish salmon and said it was delicious. The steak was also good and cooked perfectly. Our waiter was very kind, and brought us desserts since our duck was not up to par. The chocolate cake and rice pudding were both delicious and I highly recommend either if you crave something sweet. Our server did offer to have it remade, which I appreciated, but by that point, I had already filled up on everything else at the table. What I noticed after that was a shift in his attention. He seemed to redirect his energy toward a large, lively French party that had come in and were clearly having a celebration. The wine was flowing and the energy was high, and I get the appeal of that table. But we were still there, still his guests, and the attentiveness that made the beginning of the meal feel welcoming didn't quite carry through to the end. We came here to celebrate a friend's birthday and were glad we made a reservation in advance, as the place has a great energy and fills up quickly. To experience as much of the menu as possible, we ordered several dishes to share. We started with the Burrata and the Butcher's House Pate. Both were excellent, but a special shout-out has to go to the bread and butter. The bread quality is top-notch, and the butter is divine--it immediately reminded me of the high-quality butter I've had in France. Before the mains, we shared the Butcher's Salad. It was incredibly refreshing and the perfect palate cleanser. We opted not to add protein to the salad since we knew we had a feast coming, and it was the right call. Since they are known for their butchery, most of our group went with steaks. Two friends ordered the steak and eggs, and I went with the classic Steak Frites. The steak was cooked to perfection and the accompanying sauce was amazing. Both the potatoes and the fries were standout sides--perfectly crispy and seasoned. Toulouse Sausage was a total hidden gem! It was incredibly juicy and flavorful. I tried a bite of my friend's cod, and it proved that they handle seafood just as expertly as their meats. It was delicate and fresh. While I didn't get a chance to try the cocktails this time, I noticed they have a full bar with a great selection. I already have my eye on the Espresso Martini for my next visit! Overall, a fantastic spot for a celebration or a nice date night. I can't wait to come back.

The space feels intimate because it's on the smaller side, and they thoughtfully stagger reservations so the dining room never feels overcrowded. You can be seated in the main dining room, on the outdoor patio, or on the indoor patio next to the penthouse shops. I come here at least once a year for my birthday because the staff are genuinely warm and make every guest feel special. They clearly care deeply about hospitality and creating a true culinary experience. Honestly, the entire team is top-notch, but on our most recent visit, Kara took especially great care of us. She remembered our preferences, made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed without needing to ask, and made my birthday feel special while also giving my husband and me space (I dislike when wait staff at smaller restaurants hover - they don't do that at all). The way the staff serves, takes orders, clears, etc. is like a really well-rehearsed dance - they want everything to be paced, smooth, and efficient (without feeling forced or robotic) and it really makes a difference. The food is delicious and beautifully presented, with thoughtful attention put into every detail of the flavor profile and color palette. They NEVER miss. I love how they refresh the menu a few times during the year to showcase seasonal ingredients while still staying true to the restaurant's overall identity. The earl grey crumble was delicious and plays well with the sweet tartness of the granny smiths. I'd say the component that felt out of place was the compressed pieces; they tasted like an fresh apple version of tandra which was too sweet and the layers meshed together. Main diver scallops (cauliflower, romanesco, capers, lemon confit, crostini): The scallops were so juicy and perfectly seared on the top. The cauliflowers were good but lackluster. The server told me there's cauliflower puree on the bottom which was yummy. Lemon confit who? There was an essence of lemon but nothing very present. Crostini was essentially like mini plain croutons. Wild Alaskan halibut (braised & fermented fennel, castelvetrano olives, preserved lemon): Only tried a bite of the fish and fennel. The fish was very nicely cooked and the crust on top was delightful. The fennel was sour due to fermentation but I didn't particularly enjoy it.

After I asked her to find a solution as I needed a copy of the receipt, she finally asked her colleague beside her, who pointed her to the right place, and, voila, the receipt was printed. Leading with "I can't" is never the right customer service instinct, especially for something as basic as a receipt. I also tried to buy the butter they import from France. I stood at the case for several minutes with no acknowledgment. I finally walked over to the nearest employee (her name was Lucy) who was finishing up with a customer at the register right next to the butter section. I politely asked if she could help me when she was free. She looked at me, nodded, and said she would. Then proceeded to assist every customer who lined up behind that original customer without once glancing back in my direction. In fact, I had enough time to walk to the bakery, go through the entire gift card situation as mentioned above, and return to the butter section, and Lucy still hadn't looked over. I left without the butter. Moulin used to have fantastic service. I don't know where those regulars went, but two strikes in one visit, with two different employees, is hard to brush off.

Definitely one of my new favorite brunch spots - made it into my top 5 (in terms of food and…read morelocation, at least)! Love the casual vibe of this place. It's waterfront and can be accessed via the boardwalk (it's behind the street-side shops). Parking can be tough and very expensive - you'll likely have to park in the structure and walk over. Make sure to take your ticket with you for validation. Seating is available inside and outside on their covered patio. Plenty of space for parties of all sizes. I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to make a same-day reservation for a Sunday afternoon. They had plenty of open seating even when we got there. Tables were very dirty. They have a lot of work to do - it seems like months if not years of food, dust, and salty moist air mixed together and collected in the creases in the tables, on the walls, etc.. It's like a sticky gross residue that never gets completely clean. Many people like to dress nice in the area but honestly I would hate to wear something nice here out of fear it would get dirty. We also required new plates as ours had old food stuck to them. Service was not great. Our waiter was somewhat attentive but not nice - the poor guy seemed miserable like he hated his job and did not want to be there. Despite the restaurant being full, he wouldn't come by often when we actually needed something - he even disappeared towards the end and a new waiter had to help us. Food is delicious. Besides the location, their saving grace. We tried the sandwiches and yummy! Fries were also delicious with the spicy mayo. Love the different options they have, overall. They also had some great looking food on the brunch and drinks section of the menu. You can scan the QR code at the table to see pictures of each menu item. Overall was good and we'll be back every once in a while because we love Lido. Will try sitting inside in hopes the tables are decent. Really hope management makes some improvements though!

However, today's service was so bad to the point that I been waving my hands and making eye contact to order for 15-20 minutes. And they were actually ignore us. Maybe we didn't dress decent enough for them to serve us since we were in our regular jean and tshirt. So I have to actually speak up and call them to order. So when we get to order, it was 10:20pm already. After the foods are brought out, we had a decent dinner together and they are about to close. So one of the server brought out the check for us to pay and we decided to pay with exact amount with cash and leave tip in cash also. One of the server genuinely SMIRKED at us while counting the money. Like he looked at us and SMIRKED. He probably has a bad day or a busy day but still, it's a Tuesday. So instead of a nice dinner and a good nap, we had a really bad close of the day because of service at Zinque. So if you want food at night, you can come to Zinque but don't expect too much for the services recently, since it was SO MUCH BETTER back then until today.

I spoke to Priscilla twice and each time, she was so friendly, helpful and professional. I had a specific seating request, and she made it happen for me! I was so appreciative. Our server, Jeffrey was equally outstanding. We were so grateful that he took such good care of us. Jeffrey was literally very passionate about working for Marche and the menu. He really loves his job! Let's talk about the food. My date wasn't very hungry. However, she loved her Caesar Salad. I had the scallops, and they were amazing! Thanks team, for making our dinner so special!

Easily the best French food I've had in the US…read more Let's just start by admitting the truth - I'm a total carb girlie. So obviously I had to get the butter and bread. Do I hate paying for bread? Yes. But was the butter amazing? Also yes. We ended up trying 3 different butters: black winter truffle, olive oil and lemon, roscoff sweet onion. All of them were honestly awesome. The onion was particularly good and the truffle had good truffle flavor without being overwhelming. Dishes I ended up trying: -1/2 Dozen escargot cannelloni - this was so interesting. It wasn't my most favorite thing but the flavors were good and worked well together. I probably would just prefer the standard escargot. -Short Rib - this dish is PERFECTION. My god, it came with robuchon style potatoes, which are a PAIN to make if you ever do decide to try to make them yourself. But oh my god, they were so good. I could sit and eat a tub of these. Everything was delicious and everyone in my party left with happy stomachs. There's valet parking but it's pretty easy to find parking in the parking lot for self-parking. You might walk a little further, but no biggie. You probably need the walk after consuming this delicious meal. Our server was also pretty awesome and explained everything on the menu well as well as offering suggestions. I did ask some questions as whether I could sub out anything and she was quick to say since everything is made to order/fresh, they could always offer substitutions on anything they make.
