Moon's is hands down, one of the best breakfast restaurants in Boise. Period. From the ever attentive servers, laid back country charm, and some of the best likes shakes around, that would be reason enough to dine here. But, there is so much more. Here are some of the things that make this a five star spot: the homemade English muffins, homemade Hollandaise sauce, house made warm beignets, stunningly perfect drip coffee, orange juice that is squeezed fresh as it is ordered, the best red potatoes anywhere, fresh cut fruit, and the great variety of delights on the extensive menu. Here's the pros and cons: PROS: * friendly service * nice atmosphere/decor * fun music * above average food taste for a diner * Prices were a tad high for a diner, but more affordable than other places around downtown. CONS: * a really loud buzzing sound (the music covers it up), but wow is it loud and annoying... maybe a fan, or light fixture, heating or something in the kitchen? .... you should have that looked into * the silverware was probably the cheapest you could possibly buy... very flimsy and old. It's time to upgrade your silverware! I also had a bit of a residue on the knifes on two separate wraps of silverware. I had the John Wayne with 2 eggs over easy, crispy bacon and the red potatoes which was pretty tasty. This place has potential for a 5 if they upgrade their flatware and get rid of that buzzing. read more

I came here on a recommendation from a fellow traveler and was NOT disappointed. I ordered the 2 pigs in a Ben with a side of the sausage gravy bc it sounded too good to turn down but I didn't want the biscuits and gravy. It was all delicious. The ham was slightly sweet, the sausage had good flavor and the bacon was thick cut. Can't go wrong with a Benedict but this is was really tasty. I also loved the red potatoes with peppers and onions. I would return again when I have the chance. Side note but important: the service was 10 it felt like they wanted me to be there. Oh my my! We came in hungry for breakfast and they do not disappoint! The portions are HUGE! They have eggs with so many goodies added. Mine had cajon chicken and it was delicious. The flavors were so good together. There is a large variety of pancakes, eggs and sweets like fresh beignets. They have hash browns, toasts and fruit and a selection of coffees and milk shakes! For June's father/daughter breakfast we visited Moon's Kitchen Cafe on a Saturday morning. It was well worth it. The Beignets are a great starter with your latte or tea but make sure you include the homemade jam to go with it. Yummy in your tummy so to speak. We followed that with some huevos rancheros and California Benedict eggs. Great flavor and taste to all the dishes. The California Benedict is a wonderful option to having a lite version of the typical eggs benedict plate. Only possible improvement would be to leave the eggs a little runny in order to smear them over the muffins. Wrapping up the terrific meal was being waited on by Taeler who is the happiest and most cheerful waitress I have had the pleasure of meeting in a long time! Overall Moon's Cafe is at or near the top of our breakfast adventure places visited this year. Give them a visit but please make sure not to take my spot on the counter!!! read more

The lemon curd was perfectly shower text me, wrapped in the pancake creep give it a really nice consistency and raspberry on the top was additional icing on the cake. The inside is so cute and full of vintage decor with an open kitchen style to show how fresh everything is. We started with the beignets, which were very delicious though not quite as airy as ones we've had elsewhere - nonetheless, we finished them all. While so much looked amazing on the menu, including the "moon babies" that looked very tempting, we tried some savory options. I got the Chicken Fajita Hash, which was SO good and an absolutely humongous portion of food. The flavor of this dish was immaculate and the Cajun chicken inside the hash was the star. We called in ahead making sure they had room for 3 on a Sunday morning and sure enough we got a reservation. We showed up and were seated quickly. The restaurant had a great energy and overall very positive vibe plus the smells coming from the kitchen smelled amazing. Mary was our server and she was super friendly. I have the gluten allergy and the hubby and teenager do not. They got the beignets and they loved them. I got the Cali egg Benedict and they had GF bread! Plus the hollandaise sauce was home made and GF. Hubby got the chorizo omelet and the teenager got the breakfast burrito. Bonus we got the GF pancake for the table and the table approved! My family came to Moon's after receiving horrible customer service from "the fork". We had a party of 7 and asked if we could just get tables close together if they couldn't accommodate a large party. The lady who helped us was very pleasant and said I will try my best which is all we were looking for. We know it's difficult with covid to be able to seat people. We waited about 20 minutes and to our surprise, they put two tables together and were able to accommodate our party. The food was delicious and the service was prompt. The food was fantastic! For my fellow vegans, they were able to modify their Huevos Rancheros to be vegan by substituting the eggs and cheese for more veggies. I personally added spinach, mushrooms, squash, and more potatoes and it was DELICIOUS. It seems most of their stuff is cooked in some sort of soy/vegetable oil so it was safe and (very importantly) nothing upset my stomach at all - which is a plight most people with dietary restrictions who have accidentally been served something they didn't ask for have experienced. Note: I was the only vegan in my group, but everyone at the table was raving about the food! The portions are freakin huge, most people at my table were not able to finish their plates and took home leftovers. Our server was super friendly and accommodating! To our surprise, they were able to get us in very quickly with a group of 8 during the Sunday brunch rush - although a big factor there was plenty of luck with the timing of our arrival, so results may vary. 10/10 would go again! read more

I happened to be from out of town on a business trip in Boise for the last two days. This trip wasn't particularly relaxing, as most business trips are not. But I came to Moon's Kitchen Cafe for both mornings I've been here and I have to say it has been a while since I've received such great service. The servers were friendly, attentive, kind, and efficient. One in particular stood out to me - Christi. She came to refill my coffee consistently, checked on me, and let me sit and relax and do some work on my iPad after my meal. She even commented that she liked my sweater (which was a Dunder Mifflin sweater) . It was a relief not having to stress about another thing while on my trip. The food was delicious too! The first morning I got the classic french toast and the second morning I got the half order of the biscuits and gravy. I also got drip coffee (which never ran empty)! came in here on a sunday morning for breakfast. it was pretty busy, as expected, but there were 2 seats left at the counter so we snagged them. I think it was the owner that served us. she was an older woman and absolutely so sweet. kind, helpful, knowledgeable about the menu, and attentive. I enjoyed her presence the whole time we sat. had coffee to start. really good coffee for a diner. they kept coming by with a hot carafe and refilling. for our meals, my husband got the "hobo benedict" which is on biscuits instead of english muffins and has sausage gravy instead of hollandaise. he really enjoy it, and it looked delicious. I didn't even get a bite so that's always a good sign! I got a bacon cheeseburger. i'm notorious for this at breakfast places. I don't really like breakfast tbh. if there is a non breakfast item on a menu i'm ordering it. it was FANTASTIC. i'm serious. flavorful patty and good sized, the toppings were all fresh, the bacon was crispy, and the bun was some kind of buttered brioche thing. I was drooling immediately. the best part of the meal? the fries. they might be the best fries I have ever had in idaho, period. fresh, not too crispy, cut just right. I was in love immediately. I remember visiting this place when I was super little and loving the milkshakes. After a busy morning busting around Capital City Market, my husband and I were lucky to come across this place and decided to try their food. What a great experience. I ordered the blackened chicken sandwich with a side of sweet potato fries. The sandwich itself was delicious. It's an actually slice of fresh chicken, not a sad pathetic chicken patty that's not even chicken (coming at you, McDonalds). It was cooked to perfection, super moist, making it easy to eat. The fries were excellent as well. I find sweet potato fries can be a hit or miss, and these were a huge hit! Salted just right, and crispy enough to satisfy my fry craving. Taking a walk through memory lane, I ordered a huckleberry milkshake for old time's sake. It was as great as I remembered. I love this place so much, I cannot wait to be back! read more

Crowded space, hidden behind construction. The wait for a table can be very long, but the food is worth the wait. The menu items are unique, making it difficult for me to choose just one thing. That's a compliment! They lost a star for not automatically bringing around coffee. The wait person came around once in a while asking if we wanted anything. My go to breakfast spot in downtown Boise. Open seating. I've only had to wait for a spot once in all the times I've been. If you are only 1 or 2 in a group, you can usually find a spot at the bar. The service has always been excellent. If you go on a week day, it isn't usually that busy. Weekends can definitely get busy. The food is standard breakfast/diner fare and lunch options. (They have milkshakes but IMO they are really over priced. $7.00 for a lg milkshake ). My go to is the simple 2 eggs combo. You can sub a pancake for your toast. I've found this is one of the places that can actually get over medium eggs correct. The red potatoes are really good. Seriously, get them instead of the hashbrowns. read more
