I cannot believe we took no pictures. We were so taken with the food and the service, we didn't even think to take any. The blueberry pancakes were the fluffiest, best tasting ever. The homemade jams were so great we took some to go. The omelettes were so big and tasty, even though we overate because they were delicious, we had to take leftovers in a to go box that was enough for 3 more meals. And cannot end review without mentioning our server Christi. She was so efficient and personable it was like she was a longtime friend. Anyone who grew up in Boise over the past six decades has heard of Moon's. It began in the back of the sporting goods store run by Cid and Bernie Moon around the corner on Bannock Street from the current location in the Union Block. I ordered a chicken fried steak, which came with red potato hashbrowns, eggs, sourdough toast and homemade strawberry preserves. The steak was a good size and was tasty. I would have hoped for more flavor from the gravy. It was a little bland. Both the eggs and the hashbrowns were good. The bread seemed better than store-bought and the preserves were also very good. Despite coming in a few minutes after they opened at 6:30 on a Saturday morning, the waitress was super friendly and attentive to myself and a man and his grandson at another table and a man at the bar drinking coffee and reading a newspaper. On-street parking is not available on Idaho Street. However, there is a city parking lot across the street with free one-hour parking. All in all, the current owners have done a good job of maintaining the standards of Cid and Bernie Moon. read more

This was such a cute spot to eat, its in Boise downtown. I was planning on eating breakfast but the buffalo chicken wrap changed my mind and I ended up ordering that. It came with fries and the portion was a good size. The chicken inside the wrap was very flavorful! The customer service was a bit slow even though they weren't that busy but thats my only complain. Today I tried out the Monte Cristo and it was really good! The raspberry compote was absolutely delicious and made the dish! My friend got the corned beef hash and that was also very good! What a cool little cafe/diner in the downtown area of Boise! I totally just stumbled on this place after my previous breakfast plans fell through. I felt really torn about my rating of this restaurant. Mainly because the service was so EXCELLENT! I was so pleased with the attention and care I received from the moment I stepped foot into the place. I was greeted multiple times and was continually checked on during my meal. The service was 5 star service. The food though is average to good. I enjoyed my meal, but it didn't blow me away by any means, but I did enjoy it. Rather disappointing in my opinion. Let's start with the good. Atmosphere is very nice. It's a local diner feel... most tables were full but there was open seats at the counter so took on. Usually the best service. Menu had lots to choose from so I ordered a coffee and the smoked salmon omelette. Coffee was hot and tasty. Thinks went down hill after that. It's been a long time since I worked in a restaurant but when the water glass and the coffee cup are empty, any of staff walking behind the bar should refill it. I asked one and she said "I'll get your waitress". Really??? Omelette came out with fried potatoes. I started on one end. It was very good with a fair amount of salmon inside. Unfortunately only the end I started on was cooked. About 1/2 way thru, the eggs were uncooked in the middle. When I was able to flag down the waitress, her reply was "that's really odd" and walked on by. At least she brought coffee when she came back. She brought the bill a few minutes later and said she had given me a discount because my food wasn't cooked. 10% off for not being able to eat half my food and she acted like she was doing me a favor. I know it was busy with Treefort in town, but I doubt I'll give them another chance read more

I always enjoy finding a 50s style diner in the cities I visit. And Moon's Kitchen Cafe was perfect. There is a counter to sit at, which I always think is the best seat in the house. I loved all the decorations and retro style. I ordered the John Wayne Breakfast, which included two eggs two, two pieces of bacon, choice of potatoes, and a half order of biscuits and gravy. The food came out quick and, let me tell you, that this was the best biscuits and gravy I have ever had! Seriously, amazing! The only downside was that I filled up on the generous portions and didn't have any room left for one of their world famous milkshakes. Oh well, next time!!! read more

I would like to give this place a better review, but the only thing going for it was the waitress and location. First off, way over priced for Boise; sorry, the foods not that good. $13.95 for French Toast, really? I had half an order of biscuits and gravy with a regular coffee, I spent over $15 with a tip, crazy! Second, the food just isn't very good, sorry... The biscuit was okay, but not traditional. The gravy was very starchy, with a raw flour flavor from being under cooked. There was almost no sausage in the "Sausage Gravy", just slightly lumpy flour and milk. Our favorite breakfast place, made even better in particular by Grace, our server who epitomizes hospitality. Every time we're here, she makes us feel like VIPs, no matter how busy it is, even if we're not in her section. Our last visit was during Tour De Fat which was absolute madness. But the moment we walked in, there Grace was with a smile to brighten up any day. Now that I'm done gushing, on to the food. I only eat Moon Babies. They're tart, sweet and addictive. I tried looking at other things, but the Babies just call to me. My husband however is in love with the burger and sweet potato fries. The former is a juicy perfection, complemented by the latter. I ordered a classic BLT add AVO and cheddar on sourdough and oh my god! It was amazing. They had no problems tweaking it for me and made it taste delicious! The waitresses all talked to us and stopped and said hi even though they weren't the ones waiting on us. The food came fast even though it was busy and tasted fresh and flavorful. Been here quite a few times over the years. Service is the only thing that is inconsistent. Obviously being at a downtown location it can and will get packed on the weekends, so slow service is understandable. I highly recommend the chicken fried steak and the monte cristo. I've been several times now, and it's been incredible every time! As advertised, their milkshakes are amazing! I am absolutely in love with their stuffed french toast, which is what I get every time now! But everything on the menu is great! The atmosphere is nice, never too busy or too loud, and the servers are always wonderful. They are always very knowledgeable, attentive, and sweet. I'll definitely be returning and bringing more friends with me! The only downside is that I always forget that the chairs are on wheels, but you get used to it by the time you get your drinks! read more

I visited here for a quick brunch with my sister on Presidents' Day, because everywhere else had a long wait time -and I'm glad we ended up here! We went here for brunch last weekend and I indulged with the Lemon Cream Stuffed French Toast. I usually go home with leftovers but I ate every bite! The raspberry compote on top was heaven. Summary: Decent fare for a reasonable price but is probably more of an overflow from other brunch spots than a destination. My wife and I went into Moon's for some grub and sat at a table in the middle of the restaurant against the wall. It was fairly busy with about half the tables in the restaurant occupied and 4 people at the bar top. We were lucky enough to have Lauren as our server who was not only our favorite part of this restaurant, but probably the only reason we'd return. She was polite, courteous, knowledgeable and friendly. In addition to these niceties, she seemed to be the only person in the restaurant that really gave a damn about helping us. She bussed 4 tables that were in our area while the other servers lumbered back and forth with empty hands each time. I love having rockstars because they make my experience much better. ANYWAY, I ordered the Reuben with fries and a side of fruit and my wife ordered the breakfast burrito with chorizo. The Reuben was prepared perfectly on marbled rye but didn't have quite enough 1000 island or sauerkraut for my taste so Lauren brought me some more when she checked back with us. The bread was lightly grilled without too much butter but enough to make it soppy. The fries were standard without any seasoning but cooked properly. My wife's burrito was ok but lacked any love and was extremely bland. I'm unsure how chorizo can be bland since it's seasoned to the point of being discolored, but it was. I'd recommend adding sour cream, cilantro, melted cheese, jalapeño, and throwing some salt in if you order it. Otherwise, I'd probably just grab something else like an omelette or scramble with a tortilla on the side. Lauren convinced us each to try a shake and I literally felt like John Travolta in Pulp Fiction because that shake was the bomb.com. Order a shake. You won't be disappointed in anything but yourself for finishing the entire thing. Atmosphere: 7/10 Old style diner is cool with tons of stuff to look at on the wall!
