This review is a couple of months late. I decided to come here while I was visiting Long Beach because they have vegetarian options and ordered the vegan spring rolls (I requested no sauce because it contains peanuts). It was $8.66 when including tax/tip. Unfortunately, the spring rolls taste quite plain in flavor and I wish there were more strong-tasting ingredients including it, since I'm assuming the sauce would've been what really carried the flavor. However, the tofu was crispy. I asked about the drinks while I was there and the person who took my order had told me the boba drinks, like strawberry and berries lover, are not caffeinated, which is nice if you are looking for a decaf option later in the day. They have some indoor seating like a couch, though I chose to get mine as takeout and walk further away to a park to eat. read more

Located on a sluggish part of E Broadway just west of Atlantic, Moonrise Vietnamese restaurant serves a very tight set of dishes, focusing on apps, rice dishes, and Bahn Mi sandwiches. Stopped inside for lunch on a Monday afternoon, and there was some seating inside. The picture menu is broadcast electronically above the kitchen, and once you are ready, you place and pay for your order at the front register. In about 10 minutes, they will deliver the food to you. I had come here for the Bahn Mi, so their Combination Sandwich ($7.95) hit the spot. The Vietnamese Baguette was perfect, light but crispy, airy but firm enough to hold the ingredients (would love to use this bread for all sorts of subs and hoagies). All the pickled vegetables and herbs were great, fresh and crisp. And there was just enough pate spread to give it that funkiness, mixed with the sourness of the vegetables. There just wasn't much meat (one thin slice of each promised protein), but reasonable for the price. I also got the shrimp spring rolls ($6.95 for two), and they were massive, bigger than what's I've ever gotten at a Vietnamese restaurant before, about the size of a Taco Bell burrito (deserving of two hands while eating). The taste was ok (wish they had mixed the ingredients more by cutting the vegetables more finely...the cucumber spear was quite thick and could dominate every bite....the taste of the shrimp was overwhelmed). It came with a good peanut sauce. Everything was served as to-go, even though I ate it in-house. They also have a selection of flavored teas and coffees (too strong for me), but were kind enough to give a small glass of complementary iced tea for dine-in (the reusable glass was the only thing I returned...everything else, I self-bussed). We had vegan rice noodles and Thai green tea. The food was good but it's too pricey for the quantity. :( 3 stars for the food vs price and quantity. Oh my GOOD-ness! Normally I like to write super detailed and structured reviews, but I'm so impressed with this place I have to get my thoughts out as they come. Somehow the banh mi - with its perfectly seasoned meat, fresh vegetables and crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside bread - is somehow less than $8?! And don't even get me started on the CRISPY BAO (also $8, but worth every penny)!!! That may be the best-tasting treat I've had this year. It's a wonderful combination of savory and sweet. Best banh mi I've had in LB! No need to drive to OC!Came here during my lunch break and ordered the combination which had everything. The banh mi was really good and all the meats and veggies in it were fresh. I don't know what's in it but the pate sauce tasted delicious! The cashier was nice and the inside was nice and clean. The only downside for me was the parking, since its location is in downtown, you're limited to metered and street parking which can be hard to find. They also have rice dishes and noodles that I'd like to try the next time I come back. read more

Someone recommended me to try Moonrise and of course I had to go out try out the Viet food here! I've been desperate for a good Viet restaurant in LB. I wasn't disappointed at all! The inside of the place was GORGEOUS, decorated with faux plants. Definitely had a bit of an old school Vietnamese mom and pop shop vibe going on but super super modernized. My partner ordered the combination banh mi and I had the grilled pork rice noodles. The banh mi was different from most, but not bad. I believe that they make their own mayo in house, so that's probably why, but there was a strange sweetness to the banh mi that most banh mi's don't have. It was a bit of a small banh mi for $7 too, I wish it had more pickled carrots & radish, cucumbers, and cilantro. But overall, very delicious! As for the grilled pork noodles, it was super yummy! The nuoc mam (fish sauce) was also a bit on the sweeter side but not bad. The portions are big and I was stuffed by the end. They also give you food in to go containers so you can choose to eat there and then throw your stuff away yourself, or bring the food home. Overall, I'll definitely be coming back to satiate my Vietnamese food cravings! read more

Complete disaster... I used to come here a lot before the "change of place". I loved their bahn mi especially the beef. When I went, I saw poorly made chocolate croissants look like a kindergartner made it. For the price it was listed for is insane. So this time, I opted for the new American branded sandwhiches. With a pack of craft singles, old bread and hill farm packaged deli meat, you have yourself a sandwhich that is being sold here for 5x the price to make at home. Nothing memorable. My husband and I decided to make the drive here from Downey because it looked stinking cute online. The person taking our order was super polite and helpful. However, we were very much disappointed with our order. We ordered Taro Coco Milk Tea and the Salmon Roll. The first red flag was the whip cream on the boba milk tea. I regularly drink boba milk tea and I have never had whip cream added to any. The milk tea itself was good. The boba pearls were not that great. Something was off about the texture and consistency that didn't make the drink yummy. Finally the food came out. The Salmon Roll turned out to be a spam rice ball. I decided not to mention that the order is wrong in the spirit of trying something new. The rice was old and crispy in some parts and that was just a turn off. My husband and I quickly nibbled on the edible parts and then decided to leave. Tried their charbroiled pork & noodle bowl with a Thai iced tea and everything was delicious! The pork was well seasoned and the chopped & pickled veggies were fresh. I'm pretty picky with good Vietnamese food so I was pleasantly surprised how flavorful everything was. Their Thai tea was refreshing and how Thai tea should taste without the over the top sweetness some places make it. The way they package everything with reusable plastic was sturdy and kept everything in place during delivery. I'll be trying more of their other entrees in the future- just nice to know there are small businesses putting out great simple and authentic Asian dishes. read more

I Had the opportunity to try this place while looking for food in the downtown area. It has a chill vibe and the decorations were very modern and clean. I was hungry and everything looked good so I decided i'd do a taste test. I started with Cajun wings which are never wrong and the Crunchy bao - which was my first ever fried Bao.. now my new favorite snack lol. Then I shared the pork rib rice and grilled pork rice noodles.. the meat was marinated well and was perfectly grilled. I finished off with the grilled beef Banh Mi and thai tea.. the sandwhich was made very neatly and it tasted just as good as it looked.
