We were on our way to try different Cambodian places. I was looking for a dessert and stopped here after going to the grocery store. The shop carries sandwiches, bakery items and drinks. There are no dining tables inside or outside. I asked the cashier if they have any traditional Loa dessert. There was 2 packages that were displayed on the counter. One was in black and the other one was in creamy white. I chose the white one. I wasn't able to understand the cashier the name of it, but when she rang it at the register, it came out as Coconut Cookies. It was soft gooey square dessert with sesame seeds and shredded coconuts. After taking a big bite of the dessert, the aroma was so nasty that I almost vomited in the car. I had to throw away $3.75 dessert.

Mango Smoothie with Boba

It was a hot day so I decided to stop by and order the Mango Smoothie with Boba. The smoothie is both refreshing and creamy so it gets the job done and has a good mango flavor! Their boba is nothing special but it has a nice and chewy texture as well. The employees were kind and got my drink out very fast so it was very convenient to order. There's a good amount of seating and a bunch of tasty Asian snacks to choose from. Definitely recommend stopping by here before or after you visit the supermarket located in the same plaza for a nice treat.

Iced Coffee

Really clean looking and modern casual cafe with a full selection of bottled drinks as well as fresh made coffee/frappe and smoothie drinks. Would love to come back to try some of the tasty looking sandwiches. I got the iced coffee which came out almost immediately after ordering which is nice. It was fantastic. They also sell their coffee beans whole to go.

Recreational Coffee - Iced vanilla latte with oat milk

My girlfriend and I were looking for a caffeine boost to get us through Sunday when we stumbled…read moreupon Recreational Coffee in Downtown Long Beach. A very welcoming vibe upon entry, we were greeted by a friendly couple who answered our questions about popular drink flavors. We decided to go with a Hot Cinnamon Dulce Latte and an Iced Blueberry Lavender Latte. While waiting, there were plenty of chairs, tables, a comfy couch and even a bar area to sit and relax. Tons of board games, books and wonderfully mellow music helps make the experience feel comforting and inviting. Our drinks were prepared quickly and shouted at the coffee bar for pickup. The presentation was great, but the flavors, out of this world! The Cinnamon Dulce Latte was OUTSTANDING. So good, in fact, that my girlfriend stole it from me! Not to worry, her Blueberry Lavender Latte was also top-notch, with a smooth, not-to-sweet flavor combination. Friendly staff (which comes with occasional karaoke renditions from the Bluetooth speakers), a chill vibe and outstanding drinks make this a top spot in the area for hardcore coffee lovers. Check them out!

Ordered and it didn't take long at all to get it. Did they even add espresso? Who knows because the latte was weak. It barely had any hint of coffee. I asked if the latte was sweet and they said it wasn't. After the first sip I could just taste all sweetness no espresso. Recreational coffee do you guys add espresso to the lattes? Maybe I should have ordered something else not sure.

Hands down, best coffee ever. I'd like to say we have been…read moreto a lot of other coffee shops, and of all of them, this one is the best. I taste just enough sweetness but not too much, and then I taste coffee. My go to is the instigator drink

I really wanted to like this place and perhaps it was an off day.. but between the extremely rude…read moreperson at the front taking my order, the lack of customization on the lattes, and the actual taste - I just feel there's much better spots to visit for coffee in Long Beach. Let's start with service: the woman at the front was very dry, quiet, and uninterested. We tried asking her if we could add cold foam or sweet cream to our drinks to make them sweeter, and she said it was only available on seasonal drinks. As an avid matcha latte consumer, this made zero sense to me. While I don't blame her bc she likely had nothing to do with that decision, she wasn't kind in relaying that information or trying to help me find something on the menu I may like. Her demeanor remained the same when my friend ordered his drink, and we both felt a very negative energy coming from this woman, simply put it didn't seem like she wanted to be there taking our order. This was around 1pm last Saturday (the 21st of March), so they had a decent amount of customers, but it wasn't some crazy morning rush. Forward to the drink : we grabbed our drinks which came out promptly. I tasted my matcha and just as I suspected due to the lack of sweetness, it just tasted like grassy chalk. I assumed that my friends latte would be better, as matcha can tend to have an earthy taste to it to begin with. Then I tried his... chalky and sour. Due to the lack of customization and the barista's attitude, we just took a couple sips and tossed our drinks. It was a super negative experience for a place I really really wanted to like. I think allowing people to use sweetener and cold foam on more than just seasonal lattes would be a great first start, and perhaps training the staff on appropriate customer interaction would also help. Loved the branding on this spot, but it seems like the people who work there don't want to be there and it really put a damper on the experience, and for a place so cute, the drinks and vibes should be top notch.
