My eye has been on this place for a few years and I have often visited whenever I was in town. Their selection of stationaries, incents, to clocks, and travel items were amazing. All curated for those with an eye of minimalism and simplicity. The prices here are fair as I feel that the quality really exceeds the average patron. I purchased a water bottle that has traversed the United States with me and has done well. A few incenses that smelled amazing and a few other items. The guy at the cash register was super friendly too. A nicely curated shop full of an eclectic mix of stationary, wallets, pens, paper and other home goods. The selection is primarily from Japan with some items from Germany, Spain and Italy. Browsing around you will find items that you didn't even know existed and after trying them out wonder how you lived without them before. For example a nice fountain pen and quality paper makes writing experience very pleasurable and much easier than a standard ball point pen. Gentleman working here is friendly and will answer any questions that you might have. This is a unique store and definitely fits in with the vibe or the surrounding store in building, such as the vintage clothing store, barber shop, record shop and Credit union. In the midst of Moili'ili is Mono a shop filled with some unique high quality Japanese goods that seems to be fitting more for travelers or that home away sense of to be with your own thoughts type of concept. The gentleman there seem to exhume the same type of eclectic vibe as he greets you upon entering this tiny shop I loved how it's all neatly displayed the various bento boxes, drink ware even super cute origami coffee brewer, on the go they have totes and bags to fill with notebooks, journal and even some books. Definitely impressed with the uniqueness found here and it is quite pricey but the value in exchange are quality you're sure to enjoy. I initially went into the store on the search for a coffee mug. I did find a small selection in store but they were too small capacity wise so I did not purchase anything that day. However, I was very impressed by the selection of cool, modern, retro items for the home and office that they had to offer. I was especially fond of their analog flip clocks that were just oozing with mid century modern vibes. I will definitely go back to explore their offerings more thoroughly. read more

This is a nice store for high quality stationery. They carry Japanese notebooks/paper (such as Tomoe River, Travelers Company, Life, and Midori), pens (including fountain pens from Pilot, Kaweco, Midori, and Traveler's Company). They also have pen/pencil cases, bags, wallets, and household goods. Prices are reasonable. Local stationery stores are getting harder to find - a couple of them closed in the last couple of years. It's great that Mono is still in business (they recently celebrated their 10th anniversary). The store is small, product selection is limited, and parking is on the street. I needed unique gifts to show my appreciation when I left a temp job. The people were great and I wanted to do something more than just bring in food. I ended up doing goodie bag with things from Mono. I have to admit this was not inexpensive, but I wanted something more special than I could get at other store. I believe that "mono" is the Japanese word for "things." And this place has some of the nicest things and coolest designs. It's like a boutique that you'd find in Tokyo or Seoul. Returned to my old stomping grounds in McCully and decided to pay a visit to Mono. So glad I did. It's an inspiring space filled with office "eye candy," pens, stationary, leather goods, and all kinds of cool things that I never knew existed, let alone wanted & needed. This store is very well-curated and thoughtful. I loved the assortment of items that were neatly organized on the shelves and tables. There's a lot of office/desk accessories, as well as some high end candles and gifts. I bought a candle here, and it lasted quite a while after burning it for several days. While I love the concept of the store, and the uniqueness for Oahu, I wish there were more items for sale that I would buy. I've been to this store a few times and purchased mostly high quality smooth paper (that's also budget friendly); the perfect marriage with my array of pens from Honolulu Pen Shop. You must get the paper from Mono...it's so smooth and simply the best paper for writing notes or journaling. I've been journaling for over 45 years and I don't know what took me so long to figure out that the quality of the paper is equally important as the pen. When you have the perfect pen and paper, your thoughts flow magically. It really does. Something about smooth paper inspires thoughts to flow. I recently bought Dean's custom journal covers. BHAM! Journaling at its finest! I chose a bold red leather cover that is both gorgeous and functional. You chose the color of the leather and twine. I added a few pockets to my cover. It's great that Dean will work with you to meet your desires. Loved my journal cover so much that I had another leather cover made for my small notebook to keep in my purse. I am definitely planning another visit to Mono, even if to just say hi. Perhaps an 8x11 leather cover is in order. Life is precious! newly opened for about 2 months now, this store has a bunch of unique items for those hard to shop for kind of friends.... you know who i'm talking about.... the hipster friend you have that wears dark framed, non prescription glasses, slouchy beanies, and possibly jeggings..... ;) it reminded me very much of the boutique type shops that are all around San Fran. the look of the store is very clean, and not cluttered, which i like. it gives you time to really observe all the products. speaking to one of the owners, it is a wife and husband operation. they wanted to open a shop with lots of interesting items that rotate regularly.... they said to check out their instagram for the latest on their products! they have lots of japanese stationary type items, decorative things, and items that are not only functional, but design friendly. one of my favorites was a ceramic coin bank shaped like a grenade!! you put your coins in, and when its full, the only way to get them out is to throw it, and destroy :D its my kind of chaos..... i gotta say, this place is dangerous b/c it is in walking distance from where i live... :P read more

As the store description says, this cozy shop really does sell "Small design goods to improve your home, office, and lifestyle." The store has cute tools that range from vintage/35mm cameras, to computer accessories, to animal-shaped paper clips. And I believe that they are always updating their stock. From the store, I picked up an awesome fox coffee mug, a cute 35mm camera, a pencil case, and a decorative ceramic crow foot. Overall, each item for sale is odd but intriguing due to it's unique design or purpose. My favorite part of the store, however, is the wood walls and decor. It has a very natural/artsy vibe and I felt...clean? I DONT KNOW haha, it's just a nice atmosphere. The store is a little pricey, I spent around $120. WORTH IT, though. Every time I walk in MONO I always see something I want to pick up and buy. The design of their store is refreshing and make great use of the space. I did go in one day just to pick up a 6 foot Eastern Collective iPhone 5S Cable for $27. It was probably the smartest purchase I've ever made for my iPhone. They have new items in stock each time I check them out. The passion and pride for design and goods is evident in their store and anytime I have a chance to chat with them.
