They host variety of local events and rotating food/drink vendors to always keep things interesting and fresh for patrons. I frequent this place every Wednesday 5-8pm for Mah Fish Jong, where it's a free open play experience to learn and play Mahjong. I love the community of players here; we have newcomers and veterans alike, but everyone is very kind and welcoming to each other. I've seen this weekly event grow from 30 to 100 players therefore supper happy to see this event and Fishcake gaining the attraction from the community that is well deserved. read more

Matcha fest was wild and I noticed they've been having a lot of theme events lately? I wish it was on a weekend so it wasn't in the middle of a work week but I digress. I was shocked that so many freakin' people pulled up before the event even opened... like bruh.. LOL Could barely even walk inside the establishment.. I feel like they're definitely outgrowing this space - maybe move it to somewhere more spacious? Just a thought lol Other than that on days when they don't have theme nights you can find pop-ups from up-and-coming vendors starting their own individual businesses. It's always great to go and support and I appreciate Fishcake for providing a space for budding entrepreneurs to grow and expand to get their name out there! My favorite place in all of Hawai'i !! I always come here because I love their events and the vendors here sell THE BEST food. I'm always excited to try the vendors they have. Every time I come here I'm always amazed by the options and vibe they curate. The owner is an interior designer and you can tell, it's a cozy and calm area with a nice amount of open space. This review is specifically for Match Fest held at Fishcake. The venue is very small and it will get packed very quickly, so much so you'll probably be shoulder to shoulder inside the actual venue. The lines for the matcha tents outside will span down the block in the blink of an eye. I recommend coming early (before it even begins) to try n grab some drinks and place any food orders. The parking garage at the top of the block was free when we went and the place is fairly easy to find. I probably wouldn't t come back for matcha fest the lines were way too long. How cute and odd to have a furniture store doing food and drink service pop-ups! I personally loved it because after eating you can kind of explore and walk off all the good food you ate. Anyways, we came when Yuji Ramen was running his cold specials. It was absolutely delicious. It felt a little taboo since we were eating cold ramen with fruits, raw fish, and noodles. It surprisingly worked really well. We ended up moping the whole thing and it didn't leave you feeling bloated, rather clean!! If you ever get the chance you should try Yuji's ramen! It's such an interesting take. As for Kynd tea we tried 3 different drinks and the one I recommend is the Guava princess. It didn't taste too creamy, it was pretty thick, refreshing, and just yummy overall. It's difficult to explain but trust me! If you love guava you would love this drink. Overall, Come visit fishcake!! It's so cool to see food/drink vendors! As well as all the art and furniture in the store. They also have classes for pottery and other stuff! When I first heard of Fishcake in Kakaako, I assumed it was a restaurant or kitchen that specialized in fishcakes. Sure enough, I was wrong lol. The name is very deceiving and the place is an unsuspecting furniture store that hosts pop ups or events to keep things interesting in the area. I've been here twice already for pop ups and both times, it was a memorable experience. Sometimes there is parking in front (depends on the pop up or event they are hosting at the venue). There are about 4 stalls but other than that, parking is wherever you can find a spot. Sometimes you'll find a free stall, other times you'll have to pay to park in a garage or street metered parking. There's a lot of no parking signs so make sure to read before you park your vehicle. You don't want to come back to a citation or your vehicle being towed. Customer service from everyone has been quite pleasant and the place is kept clean. There are several tables you can dine on inside if you wish to dine there. The floor is quite organized and well lit. Cool spot to check out for furniture, a pop up or an event being hosted there. read more

Fishcake is an artist haven with all sorts of artisan goods. What makes this place popping is the test kitchen in the front serving up a daily rotation of delicious treats. On Saturday, we enjoyed udon noodles and shave ice! The curry udon was great. Homemade and prepared fresh. Highly recommend checking instagram because there are options to make a reservation for your bowls in case they run out. The shave ice is also so good and so melt in your mouth. Love an absolute smooth ice that is almost creamy! The hojicha was my favorite but we also got the matcha and strawberry. Before leaving, couldn't leave without picking up a few lattes from the fridge. Everything here is cash or Venmo, so be prepared! The only challenge here is the parking. The street has really limited parking and there's currently construction going on that makes it worse. Do not park illegally or you could risk being towed! Most people move in and out quick so just be patient. read more

i love fishcake and how multi-purpose this building is! There is 4 parking stalls in the front of the shop. otherwise good luck with street parking if there is any available. In the front there is a little kitchen space where they have rotating vendors. Sometimes they have about 2/3 vendors per day. Check their instagram to see who might be popping up. In the back of the store there is art and they also do workshops (mostly ceramic classes i think). Sometimes they do little events at night too and bring a whole bunch of different vendors in which is really fun. read more

Went to Fishcake to taste the Kaya Toast at their pop-up, Lovejoy's Bakery. I also tried their Miso Soba Cookie which was Yum. Kynd Tea was there, and I highly recommend the Lilijoy Refresher. Discovered Anh Chi Em Bakery pop-up on IG recently and had to go check them out. Look for them outside of @Fishcake in Kakaako. They have the friendliest team working. I can tell a lot of love was put into the pastries and baked goods. I'll leave my review here until they start their own Yelp page. Find them on Saturdays from 10am until 2pm outside of Fishcake Hawaii. As I was born in Vietnam, though grew up here. Many of these treats remind me of my childhood and snacks my parents would bring home for me. The nostalgia brings me joy and I enjoyed these sweet and savory treats. My first bites were their Chả Giò Chay (veggie spring rolls). Sorry, no pictures as I inhaled them in the car. Flavorful and satisfying, even though there was no meat. Their Pâté Sô was crispy, flaky, and buttery with layers of homemade puff pastry. Filling is made from pork and vegetables. Shitake mushrooms and onions. The traditional ones come with a pork and pate mix. I don't believe there was pate in these ones. Also had a Bánh Tiêu - fried hollow sesame donut, they are a little sweet and little savory. Try these with jook. They make a great pairing. Finished with a Banh Do Lợn - mung bean pandan layered mochi. Gotta appreciate anything layered as it is more labor intensive. For those not familiar with pandan. It is very prevalent in Southeast Asian cuisine, especially desserts. Think of it as their version of vanilla. Extracted from pandan leaves. Pandanus amaryllifolius is a tropical plant in the Pandanus genus, which is commonly known as pandan. It has fragrant leaves which are used widely for flavoring in the cuisines of Southeast Asia. They mentioned to look forward to Banh Bao (Vietnamese manapua) in the future. Those are my absolute favorite and hard to find. They contain a savory pork with vegetable filling, half a hard-boiled egg and lup cheong slices. Go check them out and go early before they sell out. I've gone into Fishcake multiple times. I've done multiple workshops and I've always loved them. I've spent a lot of money and went to pop ups. I parked my car in the parking lot under the assumption that it would be ok since I was going to a workshop that morning. I parked in a double spot and figured I would be blocked in, but I was going to be there for a couple of hours. I asked staff about being blocked in when I left and they refused to move their car unless I paid a $60 fine. The signs are posted with laminated paper. I called a cop that said I shouldn't have paid the fine and it was an illegal detainment if they refused to move their car. If I were a random person who did not spend money at this place I would understand, but I've supported this business and I feel that Janis was extremely rude for absolutely no reason. She took my $60 cash and never came back and had someone else move the car. I don't even want to come back to this place for being treated so poorly for making the mistake of parking somewhere. There is a nicer way to treat people who support your business and I don't feel I was given that. read more

Since the pandemic started I've been itching to get my hands messy and find other ways to let my creative juices flow. When I saw that they were adding a bunch of pottery classes to their schedule, I knew I had to jump at the opportunity and I'm glad I did! Immediately after opening their most recent pots class, they sold out! The class I took was a two week session that met on Saturday afternoons. First class was a three hour class and second was a 1 hour and a half class. During the first class we learned the basics and got straight into creating our masterpieces. Our instructor Dane was great--kind, intelligent, and all around fun to be around, I had an amazing time! The second class was shorter and majority of the time was spent painting and and giving life to our creations from the week before. I always drove/walked by Fishcake, wondering what the heck this place was. I'd hear that they did pop ups on weekends and finally had a chance to check it out when Shima's had their noodle pop up there. First of all - parking is difficult. They only have maybe 3 stalls right out front & besides that you're left to fight with the UFC gymgoers for street parking lol. Luckily we found one maybe a block away so it wasn't too bad! The inside is so cute! They have tables where you can enjoy your food, cute artwork, clothing etc etc. Very boutique vibes. While we were waiting for our Shima's order, we grabbed some amazing shave ice from Chillest & kept on walking around fish cake. The store extends back and also a bit to the right, so lots of explore. Unfortunately we didn't buy anything this time. If the parking wasn't so unfortunate & maybe we went on a busy less chaotic day I would've enjoyed myself more but I will def be back for another pop up! read more

However, one of the ladies working in the front helped me out and said to check out Islandboy right next door. I'm not sure if Islandboy is part of Fishcake or not, but the arrangement Andrew was able to make me was absolutely stunning!! He asked me what my budget was, what it was for, and when I would be ready to pick it up. He was able to put something together in under an hour. The family I gave the flowers to loved it just as much as I did. He said that flowers were from Hilo. Starving for something different. First came across Fishcake when I visited a house that had been staged by them. The look was different, fresh and candy for the eyes. So very very tired of the usual combination of island chic with Pier One accessories. I love to visit beautiful spaces with unexpected surprises to delight you. The store on Kamani Street has shrunk, and now they share space with rent an office for a day and Morning Glass coffee. Mind you, it is so nice to have a real cup of coffee (why do I drink Starbucks?) while enjoying yourself as you walk around the space. After two years of looking everywhere, I finally found the bedroom dresser that I was looking for. It's made in Italy--simple and sleek with a metal bottom. Fishcake has taught me that you don't need the same look in one room, you just have to know how to combine the looks to make it interesting. Acquiring a gorgeous Peter Lik recently ( thank you Dale and Jason!) made me rethink my home. I wanted pieces that were different yet functional and interesting. I've learned that I don't want to make too much of a commitment when it comes to furniture, because my taste changes. And who wants to get rid of something they've spent a lot of money on?! You just feel so guilty. I have my eye on the next piece I want to acquire at Fishcake and it may just go on sale soon. Got 10% off when I checked into my Yelp app on my dresser, and being half Chinese! LOL it's always good to get a discount! They also have a small outpost in South Shore Market and I always enjoy taking in all the cool, eclectic things they have on display. Maura one of the co-owners has great ideas on how to put things together. Appreciated her eye and suggestions, which I used to pleasing effect. There are a few parking stalls out front, but I've also parked in back of the cars there and told the person in the coffee shop to call me if anyone needed to get out. I came here to shoot a fashion show, so I'm assuming the place isn't normally packed with people with a runway running through the center of the establishment. The place features a small cafe when you enter, with the rest of the shop being filled with fashionable items for the ladies. I don't know if guys have anything available, unless you like to wear skirts, which is cool if you do, but that's not my thing personally. It seemed very modern in tone and atmosphere, with lots of light colors, pastels, and wooden permeating the scene. The garments and pieces matched, which is what one would expect from such a fashion oriented establishment. More art than fashion, but isn't fashion just another form or art? Speaking of art, there are interesting textile creations on display throughout, such as dresses and dolls, although I'm not sure if it was for the fashion show. Don't really know how much the clothes cost, but I'm assuming it's a pretty penny. Come here if you want to mix a little art with your feminine fashion. read more

Warning: This place does not sell fishcake! However they do sell some awesomely unique furniture and household accessories! I actually came here to get something to eat. The cafe serves freshly grounded coffee, scones, cookies, and sandwiches. I had a cold pressed sandwich that came with prociutto, tomatos, provolone, pesto, and portabela mushrooms. The taste was excellent! I also had a peanut butter banana cookie wich was given to me on the house! These guys really appreciate their customers. I love this gallery. It's wonderful for unique gifts. Hiroki Morinoue has his mokuhanga prints up now and they are fantastic. They are always bringing in new and cool stuff. There's a signed book of postcards of the Big Island by Franco Salmoiraghi that I'm sure will be gone soon. The staff is always super friendly and helpful.
