Quality of the full size futon is great and the replacement upgraded pad with inner springs was great. I moved and their original delivery and set up person did it lightning fast and even replaced a cracked piece which if he did not notice I certainly would not have. I had been in the market for a futon since I will be buying a studio in my home town of Birmingham, AL in the future...and wanted something to use as a guest bed. I also was in need of a couch as my previous couch that I got was becoming sub-par and a cat nightmare because it was pleather and took up to much room. Either way enter me into this area for Bob who gave me a wealth of knowledge and even had a futon style I was looking at online from an Amazon store...although I'd have to assemble that myself. However there was the Grand Arm model that far exceeded what I was looking for with the ability to store books and magazines in the side of it as well as controllers and of course BEER in the arms on both sides! I took a day to mull it over and sell my old couch before I purchased it over the phone. Unfortunately they don't take AMEX so I had to use my VISA card which wasn't a problem. Just wanted to build AMEX points haha. For a lowly 65 dollars for the Honolulu area they deliver and assemble it there and the worker also teaches you how to use it. Not to mention he gave me a military discount on the frame as well as the futon cover. The wood was beautiful and I will be buying it's matching storage drawers underneath when they arrive (they didn't have that color in at the time.) The only complaint I had was after the worker left I noticed that the left arm had a crack in the wood. I called up Bob to tell him about it to warn him about his other products and he even offered to replace the whole arm free of charge! Wow didn't expect that. They are knowledgeable and very good at their jobs. Kinda quirky but I enjoyed that from their furniture store. New to the area and needed a multi-functional sofa/bed and went to see Bob on a Saturday. I cannot remember if it was delivered that day or the next but it was prompt. The installer took off his shoes without me asking. We went all out, futon frame, mattress, and cover. We loved it. Then we did not. We spent a month on it and it just did not suit our needs. After just over 30 days, I reached out and asked if they would exchange the frame. To our astonishment, Bob said yes and the same day he sent the installer to our house. The old one was packed up and removed and the new one built. All this in less than 3 hours. We didn't shop around and never would if we can buy what we need here. read more

So let me just start by saying that this is our first review, but we have been in the process of redecorating and renovating our home so we have been dealing with several vendors recently, and we just thought we could help others who might be working with similar vendors. The store is a not hard to find, just take the first left once you pass the Blaisdell Center and Kapiolani Blvd. There is parking right in front. Our first impressions of the store is that they have really interesting stuff. They carry mostly rattan and wood furniture in the main showroom, and several nice wood pieces in their upstairs showroom. If you are shopping for a futon frame, they have a good selection. We were looking for some rattan furniture, and not impressed with the selection at the chain stores. We had just started our search, so we had not planned on buying anything that day. However, I was really drawn to a rocker/swivel rattan chair with an ottoman. It was a personal impulse buy, since I was looking for something comfortable that I could use for just playing games or watching TV. It was a $900 chair/ottoman set, maybe a little expensive after checking out similar chairs online, but I loved it so we bought it and had them order custom cushions. He told us it would come in 4-6 weeks. It actually came in around 3 weeks which we were happy with, not that we were in any rush. We went to pick up the chair and it looked beautiful, exactly what we ordered. Picked it up at the store and brought it home. This is were our problems started. We were not very familiar with rattan, but from what we were told it was a strong, durable furniture. However to our surprise the first time I actually leaned back on the chair the base cracked. It had cracked in two spots. Shockingly since I was not rocking on the chair or am I unusually heavy (160 lbs). So the following day we called up the store, and explained what had happened, trying to give them a heads-up as far as to how they could remedy the situation for us. We assumed that they might order a replacement chair or perhaps just repair the broken base. What they told us was to just bring the chair back. My wife and I brought back the chair and as we tried to explain what had happened the salesperson (presumably the owner) told me to just get the broken chair from our car. As I was unloading the broken chair. The then clearly upset owner told us to just take the floor model, threw it in our car and then left with the broken chair saying, that he had lost money because we had returned the chair. The chair he gave us had a number of large scratches, one especially large gash on the front of the chair, and was clearly used, even though we had paid full price and extra for the custom cushions. We were confused by his abruptness and since it was just a chair to lounge in, we did end up keeping the chair. Primarily not wanting to deal with the owner again or having to reorder the chair and wait another couple of weeks. Sadly we were planning to buy several other pieces from his store, but decided against it after this experience. The prices are affordable and they have a good selection, and we felt they were initially very friendly and helpful during the sales process (As you see in many of the other reviews). And since most types of furniture don't have any moving parts like the rocker/swivel chair we purchased I don't think most people will have any trouble with furniture breaking and dealing with a return situation like we did, but we thought our story might give you some caution or help you decide where you buy your furniture from and what you buy from this store. read more

The local business has been around for over 20 years is located in a warehouse setting tucked away in between the luxury condos. The store is not a fancy furniture store, but they do have a specialty in futon. Formula is pretty simple: choice of frame, size, color, mattress and mattress cover. The furniture starts at $699 and goes up to around $1200 depending on your choices. They also sells tatami bed and some other rattan furniture. They offer delivery service for $60 and said they can probably delivery on the same day except Sundays. The futon is a good alternative for the guest bedroom. I arrived on the island with only two suitcases. I found a studio apartment and began searching for a futon. After visiting stores and getting the run around on Craigslist. The best option was Creative Furniture. I knew what I wanted in futon, just had to find a comfortable mattress. All the futons and mattresses were clearly priced individually and as a set. While the owner may tend to be talkative, he helped me select a futon. They even aired out mattress prior to delivery. The one-man delivery service was on time. He finishes assembling and removed all the trash in less than an hour. Only word of advice: The mattresses on display are fully broken in. A new mattress will be firmer. read more

I was a little leery of this place when I first drove up. For one thing, it was on a side street off Ward Ave. marked with giant potholes and smelling of day-old fishheads. The interior is dark and dusty, but then I thought, hey, this is how they keep their prices down. Who cares about atmosphere when it's cheap, right? Creative Furniture is actually a store that specializes in futon sofabeds, but upon hearing of my quest for a full-sized plain wooden bedframe, fellow Yelper Lyn L. directed me here. It was my last hope. I had been to or contacted every other furniture store on the island and scoured through hundreds of websites to no avail. Imagine my delight when, upon being directed to the only two bedframes there, I found that they were the right size, the right look, came with optional storage drawers, AND they were affordable! Only $280 for the frame and $25 for delivery, plus they let me use a coupon for a huge discount from the Entertainment Book and put the frame together for free!! I was practically jumping up and down with joy!!! I subtracted a star because when they were late delivering the bed the following week, I called them and it sounded like they had no idea who I was. Yes, they had forgotten my order. When it came, it was missing a set of storage drawers, which they still haven't delivered two months later because they are waiting for another shipment. But the owner, Bob, assures me that they are on their way, so minus a star for now. Update--1 year later: The other two storage drawers finally arrived two and a half months later. I was getting worried! The bedframe is still standing, although I had to reinforce it in the middle. read more

It is really hard to find a furniture store that sells futons... I almost had given up when I spotted this place online. I called for their hours and prices, and the next day the hubby and I went to check them out. Hooray for this place!!! They have tons of different futons: cotton, spring, memory foam, etc. Various sizes ranging from full to king. I eyed out some of their oriental style covers too; very pretty... We needed a full size futon mattress and the owner suggested different ones based on popularity. We spent about half an hour "trying on" mattresses, and finally decided on a firm cotton one. The price was around $300 (or so) and we happily forked over the money. What a relief! Our search was finally over! :) Great customer service. However, I am confident in my recommendation of Bob and Jesse as standup guys. I will definitely return and buy products from them in the future! The following is why you should too: First, they are friendly and attentive. They welcome you in immediately and make sincere effort in helping you find your ideal pieces...Not in a pressured or unnatural way. Second, they are honest. I put a $500 deposit on a futon, frame, etc many months ago with full intent to pay the remaining $1200 when I situated a new house. Circumstances changed, a steady income was taken from the big picture, and new furniture was no longer a priority. The receipt stated "No refunds" so, trust, I was not expecting a FULL REFUND when I walked into the store NINE months after the initial visit. This brings me to my third accolade: they're genuine dudes. They're not just "running a business;" they understand there are hardships in life. The fact that Bob reimbursed my visa without hesitation, investigation, or judgment on my circumstance was really impressive and uncommon. In a world where money rules, it's rare to find a business where consideration for a person is placed above a buck...no strings attached. Ok, so I know you're not buying Bob or Jesse, but they deserve a lot of credit! ...so...futons...what I do remember was that the mattresses varied in firmness. Guaranteed selection-always a plus. I loved all the different frame options- styles, woods, and finishes. Suitable for any interior decor. Then there were the futon covers...thousands of options and books filled with cloth samples...Busy patterns to intricate flowers to solid-textured covers. Materials ranged from basic kine quality to luxury-imported fromJapan. 5 Stars, no question. You won't find a better store for futons. You won't find more knowledgeable staff, better selection, better product at reasonable prices, or courteous installers anywhere. Most importantly: they will treat you right. I bought a futon, after extensive in-house testing of one in the showroom. I loved the frame with the flip-up side tables. I thought it was perfect, but the new mattresses are firmer than the ones sat on/laid on by customers. The firmness of the new mattress was too much for me. Had I kept it, I would have been in outrageous pain daily for months. Bob had told me they do not take returns and I feared that I'd be stuck with something I couldn't use. Returning a mattress is dicey at best and don't expect it from anyone in the business unless they tell you first. There's good reasons for that, as some people are careless. I made sure my skin never made direct contact with the mattress, plus, unfortunately, it was so painful I couldn't be on it more than a few hours anyway. I explained the extensive measures I took to Bob and he graciously reconsidered and in fact took the mattress back for a very reasonable re-stocking charge. It's as good as new, the frame is flawless, new. And they picked it up at my place. I could not ask for more from any retailer. Even though I could not use the product, I recommend Creative Furniture to anyone, without reservation, because they treat you right. read more

My only prior experience with futons were the things my friends had in their college apartments. I was surprised to learn there are some extremely nice futons out there - and Creative Furniture is the place to find them. My wife and I wanted a pull out couch and decided to look at what Creative Furniture had instead. We ended up buying a futon instead that is far nicer than any couch we could have selected. The staff is extremely nice, very knowledgeable and patient, and store carries some very high quality stuff including some really nice covers. Customer service is outstanding - when my shipment from the mainland was delayed a bit, I got a call from the owner right away keeping me posted. When the futon arrived, it was delivered and assembled promptly - in fact they gave me a delivery window within a one hour timeframe. Excellent products and service. We parked in a space in front of the store marked "for futon lovers only" then went inside and spent 15 minutes looking at furniture. The futons were a pretty good price, but we didn't find any of them very comfortable and the guy who was in the store wasn't particularly helpful. While we got in our car to drive away--we spent a minute looking at a map on my phone before we pulled out--whoever runs the store must have come back from lunch. When he saw us pulling out of his parking space, he ran out of the store and screamed at us for parking in front of his store. We needed a futon mattress to place on an older futon frame. We used to use the frame as a couch and after getting new furniture we decided to use the frame as a bed for the spare bedroom but to get a new mattress since the old one was pretty gross after being host to slouchy teenagers and a drooling cat for years. As another reviewer noted, we found that it is difficult to find futons in Honolulu. We had been to standard furniture and bedding stores, and they each had one or two options. This place has a wide range of options. The owner walked us through them all, explaining the differences and letting us try them out. We ended up getting a mid-range mattress, about $500 for a full size. It was packed up in a little compressed ball which we were able to drive away with in our hatchback. Super easy. When we got home, we opened it up and let it return to its normal shape and size. In my opinion it is a super comfortable mattress, certainly better than any futon I've been on. We didn't even need to place boards between it and the frame. We could have gotten a futon that was less or more expensive. We keep the bed mostly for home visits from the aforementioned slouchy teenagers, who can sleep on rocks and still get a full 9 hours. The point of this review is to say that we appreciated the range of choices offered by this store, and that their service was great. read more

We were looking for a full sized futon sofa bed for our daughter. There were alot of varieties. There were swatches to look at and there was a good selection of oriental prints to choose from. There also hawaiian prints and one color prints. Jesse our salesman was really helpful and made some suggestions. He gave us their business card and said their was a website we could look at. We came back a couple of days later and purchased a Sofa bed. The sofa bed is called a wall hugger. This means it is only about 3 inches from the wall and you just open the sofa to make the bed. They delivered it and set it up the same day. Can you believe that.The del. and setup fee for Honolulu was $55.00. One thing I really like was they were not pushy and gave us lots of time to think about what we wanted. read more

They have a large variety of all types of frames, futons, and covers in stock! I espcially liked the Japanese print covers. We purchased the new wall-hugger frame and a wonderful latex (gren) futon. We were looking for a queen-sized futon mattress for ourselves and a twin for our 3-year old son, and after reading the reviews here we decided to check this place out. I did not think the interior was dark nor dusty. I thought it was actually pretty warm for what I was expecting, and the displays were well done. Jesse helped us, but was very hands-off, giving us plenty of time and space to decide on what we wanted. We decided to just go with a traditional, basic mattress for ourselves before making a decision on our son's, and if ours holds up well, we will definitely be back to purchase the other one for him soon! It was late in the afternoon, and since there were no other customers, Jesse offered to deliver our mattress for free, normally a $50 charge!
