We hardly ever get to Wahiawa to walk around and this was one of those Saturdays where we wanted to explore, My friend is sooo into vintage Aloha Shirts and they had a good selection at decent prices. He ended up purchasing two at $20 each, both were in great condition and not the "run of the mill" stuff. We did have a great chat wtih the very personable owner who gave us a tour of the building which was purchased by their non-profit. We were very impressed with the apartments behind the store front where many of the volunteers are housed along with their facilities for homeless. They had restrooms and showers that the homeless could use (they were timed entry) along with a pantry where food was distributed. They also had classrooms including an art and dance room to get troubled younger people interested and out of the streets. It's great to know you are helping a good cause when you are shopping!

Win/win/win! They're located in the Ala moana Blvd parking lot of the SALT area, next door to Starbucks. The name of this place does not really tell you that it's a clothes store, and it seems tucked away from the main SALT tenants so you can go here and feel like a Yelp insider who knows what's up! They had vintage Levi's shorts by the barrel (note that the older year sizes run SMALL, so try a few different sizes to get an idea of the right fit). Plenty of cool jackets, tees, hats, dresses, etc. cute aloha men's shirts. The vibe is cool, laid back, good music and they have a fitting room so you can try things on. The shop is on the first floor and it appears they moved into a bigger area adjacent to the old (making it a much bigger space. Once you enter you are greeting by the nicest lady (owner). I told her that I was new to her shop and was looking for a mu'umu'u for an upcoming event. She made several suggestions (all so very good)! I was happy since I was clueless other than knowing that I wanted a vintage piece and perhaps a "newer" version as well. I came away with a beautiful Bette in a pink floral as well as another in red and yellow print. I was very pleased with my purchases as well as the help and hospitality from DeStash.

You can find aloha shirts just about anywhere on Oahu, whether at expensive boutiques in Waikiki or in the nearest ABC store. However, the visual appeal of the shirt depends completely the eye of the beholder. With that in mind, there probably isn't any other store on the island that offers a broader selection. It's pretty overwhelming. The drawback is that the massive inventory is packed in a retail space so constrained that it can be a challenge to navigate. It took me a while to realize the shirts on the central racks are the priciest, some costing hundreds and (gasp) even thousands of dollars. There are used shirts along the wall that sell as low as $9. I wasn't particularly clear on the difference in quality, but I'll give you one guess which racks I was rifling through. The clerk explained that there were a couple racks of new shirts and the rest are vintage. Many of the shirts were produced in Hawaii. In addition to shirts, they carry an assorted collection of Hawaiian themed vintage souvenirs, antiques and knick knacks. Some of the items are pretty dusty, and had me thinking that they hadn't been moved in a long time. The prices are pretty hefty (except the shirts were reasonable). There were a number of customers scooping up shirts. I was a little claustrophobic to be honest in the tight quarters. There is no dedicated parking. Street parking is available if you're lucky.

All curated for those with an eye of minimalism and simplicity. The prices here are fair as I feel that the quality really exceeds the average patron. I purchased a water bottle that has traversed the United States with me and has done well. A few incenses that smelled amazing and a few other items. The guy at the cash register was super friendly too. We had a small talk about mid century modern vibes and it was great to speak to someone that had a real good sense of the vibe I was trying to aim for.

Unfortunately, I found the store closed at 1pm which gave me about 20 minutes to find the store, park, and shop. Based on reviewers feedback, parking was great (once you pull into the right driveway). Following the sign on the door, I knocked, and was greeted by a sweet volunteer who had me sign in, then gave me the '411' on the shop. The section by the door was full of sale items (3/$2), while the rest of the items in the store were priced as marked. Now I had 15 minutes! What wonderful stuff - home decor, household items, and a small shoe and clothing section. I found a brand new Harrod's backpack for $17 (on Mercari for $80); the volunteers were both excited and impressed that I found something great in the short time in the store. Put this shop on your list - clean, nice stuff, good prices, sweet volunteers, and a great cause!
