Omg I tried their red velvet cake and it's to dieee for! I thought I had the best red velvet cake when I tried cakeman raven but this place kind of whooped their ass. I think this place is truly another Brooklyn gem. The cake was moist and chocolately just like a how a red velvet should be and the cream cheese frosting was amazing. Today was not the day to hit up new spots. They are under renovation and there was limited baked goods. Their pies looked / sounded awesome (banana cream, blueberry) from the menu...with no pictures. Also, their display table screamed "tip me over so i can fall." Not that im knockin it. The selection of cookies (hard to read...being on my tippy toes didnt help either) was surrounded by the holiday gift selection . Was craving a cupcake after my last trip at Crumbs. They didn't have that much variety..Only chocolate/vanilla cupcake. They had mostly Italian pastries : cannoli, cookies, pastries. I could tell the bakery is pretty good in the neighborhood because I saw locals going in and out of the place. The chocolate cupcake ($1.15) wasn't as moist as I would like it to be, but it was pretty good. However, I like the 86 St location more. There are seats and the atmosphere is much better. read more

One of my fave bakeries. It's 1 of those neighborhood bakeries that's just not easy to forget, for some reason. Back in 1999, I remember buying a small peach pie & an assortment of pastries from Mona Lisa Bakery. I nearly finished the whole pie in 1 sitting. Lol. The surprise for me at this itialan bakery was when I ordered the cheesecake. It was at X-Mas time so I figured everything was fresh. The girl wrapped it up and I went on my way to my in laws in Staten island. I was even more surprised when they opened it it was full of greenmole. Best pastries and breads in Brooklyn, Period. Their french bread and twisted seeded are amazing....their cannoli's are the best....their sfogliattele's are the only I will eat...all their cookies and pastries are fresh and delicious. Got a cherry pie from there and was very unhappy. The crust was more like a cookie crust than a real flaky dough crust , also so much sugar on the crust. I felt like I was eating a big cherry cookie and not a cherry pie. Had one slice and threw the rest out read more

I agree with the other reviews, they seem to be overpriced for the quality. Also, the customer service is really horrible. The woman at the counter is really not people friendly at all. She actually gave me an attitude when I asked for rainbow cookies, as if she had to go out of her way for me. I'd rather go to Grandma's bakery, Tasty pastry shoppe or even out to Villabate. Mona Lisa, get your act together. You're a dime a dozen. There are like 10 other bakeries on 13th ave alone. You don't stand out from the rest, #sorrynotsorry. read more

Mona Lisa was hired by Riviera catering hall to make my wedding cake on July 2010. I was so disappointed of how my wedding cake came out. The design was suppose to be simple and elegant. I had asked the baker to put a lace fondant all around the cake, surprisingly he messed that up. The fondant looked terrible. It seemed as if they ran out of fondant because you can clearly see the gap between where the fondant begins & ends. Overall, I believe that (Mike) did terrible. Unfortunately, I have to look at his cake all over my wedding album & video. He gets hired and paid for the job regardless of how terrible it looks. I recommend you pay a little more out of pocket than hiring Mike from Mona Lisa. read more

new owners/management sunk the ship. this place is seriously DANGEROUSLY unclean to be purchasing food from. i gave them several chances after new owners took over, but every time i've had to throw away $40-50 worth of OLD baked goods. even brownie bites were inedibly stale. i shudder to think how old they must have been! the cafe area is dusty and falling apart. wait staff look like drug addicts - dirty nails, sloppy clothing, scab riddled faces. half the menu items were "unavailable at the moment." just by looking around, you get to feel very uneasy about eating anything from there. so i go, never to return. rip mona lisa. you were great once :( read more

Uneatable. Had several pastries. Old. They look beautiful but were some of the worst baked goods Ive had in years. The other people at my table agreed. The whipped cream had some sort of cristo in it as did the mouse I had. I left the place with a slightly greasy film in my mouth and some sort of artificial flavor that I could not place. My friends and I left in awe at how "wrong" it all was. How were they able to make such pretty looking things and be so bad? read more

i will never ever come to this bakery again. i ordered weeks in advance a cake for my wedding & specifically went over every single detail by detail with a lady & her boss & they even went online with me ( there specific website where they have several photos of cakes) to look at the specific design i wanted for my wedding, she took down my order with the design, deposit, & date i needed it for & told me it would be ready. i came in the day before to pick up my cake mind you i called earlier that morning to check on the cake & let them know i would be there that afternoon to pick iot up as i had originally said & i was told by the same guy that had originally helped take my order that the cake was almost done. my fiance & i showed up to get the cake & when we looked at it it was completely different from what i asked for. the cake was sloppy the writing was terrible, the colors were wrong & they did not design it the way that i asked. when i addressed the issue with the staff that was there she had told me that everyone had left for the day & when i asked if they could come back to fix my wedding cake or come in earlier the next morning to fix my cake the way i originally asked in order for me to have it on time for my wedding the next morning at 11:00 i was told by the boss through text messaging his staff that no that they are not going to do that & that i would have to wait until they came in the next day during there regular time which would have been to late for me to receive the cake on time for my wedding . end result i ended up with no wedding cake because they were not willing to help or make up for the mistake that they made & it was way to late for me to find another place to make a cake. i have never been so disgusted in my life what kind of a place would do that to someone who is getting married, especially when everything was done on my part correctly & in advance. they did not even over to compensate me for the inconvienence or offer anything else to me to help me resolve the issue for my wedding, nor did he apologize. so to the owner or boss or whoever screwwwwwwwwwwwwww you and this bull**** business you are running i will never ever come here again nor will i reccomend this place to anyone because you clearly do not care about your customers or there satisfaction & the way my fiance & i were treated is unacceptable. read more
