My go-to Italian bakery is Rimini, and they've rarely disappointed, so I was hoping that going off-the-beaten-path wouldn't be a mistake. I ordered Nuccio's off the Too Good to Go app (a first for me) and got there a few minutes early. However, the app actually makes you wait until your scheduled time to click the button indicating you picked up the goods. The staff member seemed a little annoyed by the situation and even said they usually start the orders half an hour later, but I think they would have to make that correction on the app. I was worried she would pack mediocre goods for me, as the order was for a random bag of "leftovers," since she didn't seem to be in a good mood. However, I was hopeful when I left with one huge bag. I received three croissants, one chocolate frosted donut with cream inside, three brioche buns, and one muffin. The almond croissant was really good; I'd go back for it again. At Rimini's, their almond croissant is just almond flakes on the outside, but at Nuccio's they have almond paste on the inside of the croissant -- so delicious! I would steer clear of their donuts, it was very bland and the texture was no good; even Dunkin' has better donuts! The bread was acceptable in taste but had a really tough texture. I've never been to this bakery physically. Interestingly enough, what made me look up this bakery was because I purchased some Italian Cookies in the market with their bakery name on them. I've had many Italian cookies in my life so I think I can be a fair judge. The Italian cookies made by Nuccio's just simply not very good. I can't pinpoint exactly what ingredient was in the cookies but it was off putting. It had a weird aftertaste to it. The only thing I Like about it was that it was crumbly and soft. Most Italian Cookies tend to hold up a little bit better and less powdery when you bite into it. The soapy taste has to go though. I rather eat Scotto's Italian Cookies. read more

No. Unimpressive, uninspiring, borderline mediocre pastries that are not worth the Sunday purchase. The staff was rude, acting as if the store was packed (only 3 customers, including myself), and they really made me feel rushed instead of feeling valued. Also, who the heck puts seeded grapes into a fruit tart? And the fruit tasted tart as well, not fresh or candied, but past expiration. The custard has zero taste and you can only really taste the chocolate. The Linzer tarts and the rainbow cookies are half decent, and I mean, literally, half decent. This is extremely embarrassing... We purchase cakes for pictures and presentation but this is unacceptable. All their pastries are fresh and fragrant--it's hard to go wrong with any choice. Sweets by the pound are great--you can fill up a box with different cookies and taste them all. Marzipan and almond confections are a little too sweet for my liking. Three color cookies were not too saccharine. The Most incredible original cheesecake! So decadent and delicious, not heavy at all, like most cheesecakes. You can devour half the pie and not blink an eye. Not too sweet--just perfect. I had lovely service here. I bought chocolate sprinkle cookies and "brioche" rolls, quotes intended. Cookies were very fresh and delicious and taste was consistent with what I've been buying from Italian bakeries for years. However, the "brioche" rolls, although fresh, had a strange taste as another reviewer noted. They weren't spoiled, but it was a flavor you don't find in bread from an Italian bakery (or French or any other European style bakery) - kind of sweet and fruity. I don't believe this is truly an Italian bakery anymore. I don't know who's baking the bread but if you are looking for old school European style bread, you will be disappointed. I took one star away only because of the Lobster tail , the dough was tough, not flaky at all... the cream was good though. We also tried mini pastries : the angel cake was very fresh and moist , red velvet was also good and there was another one( Oh, my God! ) just amazing: it's just melted in my mouth and the cream was to die for! I like to get up early and start my day as the sun rises. It's the best time to visit bakeries. Everything is freshly baked and the good stuff runs out later in the day. My family use to take me to a little bakery a couple blocks from our Chinese laundry. We got there early and were greeted by the aroma of fresh apple pie. That and donuts were my biggest weaknesses. Nuncio's has a nice aroma of fresh baked bread. I walked over at 9am and there was a hot apple pie waiting for me. It had a nice aroma of baked apples and pie. Apple filling and the crust had mild flavors. Wish the crust was crunchy. Texture was a bit soft. I do like how they tied the pie box with string like back in the old days... The only remark is that the staff is far away from being friendly. Came here in the afternoon for some Italian pastries and cookies. Place is small and clean with no chairs or tables, its buy and go. Display is full of decorative sweets of all kind. The girl behind the counter was willing and able to explain all the different pastry fillings they have. Got the Lobster Tail Puff with french cream, it was really good as the cream wasn't too heavy and the puff was lite and airy. Their fruit tart was so-so, it fell apart as I took the first bite. I came in because I was visiting Joe's of Avenue U nearby and wanted to finish with a pastry. Since I'd never been here before, we got a cannoli, a slice of cheesecake and some raisin cookies. This place deserves a re-review. I've been going to Joe's of Avenue U with the girl for awhile now, and Nuccio's is our go-to for dessert. Compared to some other old school Italian bakeries, this place doesn't look like much at a glance, and the items towards the front of the store look pretty generic. Walk towards the back and you'll see all the old staples though. Every time the service is very friendly and accommodating. Did I mention that it's dirt cheap? I don't think I've paid more than $10 here for dessert for 2 ever, and it's usually around just $5. Everything I've had has been great. Their lobster tail is up there with the best I've had. I am typically turned off by lobster tails with their use of whipped cream, but Nuccio's cream is luscious. The rum baba, Italian cheesecake, rainbow cookies, cannoli, and other things I've tried are also great. You literally cannot go wrong. While they mainly are a pastry shop, they make bread as well which I am looking forward to trying. I am planning on getting something more ambitious from Nuccio's and if all goes well, I will bump this rating up. This is why Brooklyn wipes the floor with other Italian bakeries: fresh, consistently great Italian classics. read more

Boyfriend and I decided to walk here for a little dessert after dinner. This place has good reviews so we gave it a shot. Boyfriend got cheesecake and I got lobster tail. Cheesecake wasn't very sweet which can work for some but I would like it to be sweeter. Cream in the lobster tail was AMAZING, quite sweet but I liked it. However, I wished the pastry itself was softer, it still was flaky and delicious, but hard. Girl behind the counter was very foreign but super friendly! It's been about 15 years since I've been to this bakery. My grandfather was a frequent customer before he passed, and since then we haven't been back. Recently, my youngest son asked me where papa used to get the "white cookies" (Sicilian savoiardi cookies) and the rest is history. My son lives on eastern Long Island, and I am just outside of Philly. It's a heck of a ride for us, but the memories it brought back are worth the trip. read more

Today I had the misfortune of trying this bakery, aka, dog food manufacturer. This was the worst pastry and donuts I have ever had. Why hasn't the department of health closed this pigsty of a bakery down. My friend has been so gassy since eating this thing they called cannoli. It was more like ferret feces . The donuts could have killed someone if you hit them with it. They ere beyond stale . I actually used it to replace a missing brick . The cheesecake should be investigated by the FDA. There was some questionable ingredients used in that mess for sure. My advice is drive past and give them the finger read more

Although, unfortunately, this doesn't apply to anything from their physical store, I got their S cookies from my local market and I have to say they have no taste and the texture kind of feels undercooked. They're not as crunchy as I thought they would be nor are they doughy, the texture just dissolves in your mouth. I don't know why. I was lucky enough to have a professor who brought in an apple and cherry pie from the bakery . This pie was a class treat to commemorate Pi (3.14) day. The slices of pie that I tasted were freshly baked with a flaky light crust . The filling of each pie tasted as though the fruits were freshly picked rather than poured out of a can . If there was any added sugar in this pie , I was unaware of it because there wasn't a sweet taste to the pies . The only sugar that I could identify was the sprinkles of confection sugar that I could see on the outer crust of the pie . After eating the treats from this restaurant I felt satisfied , completely full but also healthy . Growing up my grandparents would bring the grandkids into Brooklyn to go see where they used to live. We would spend the day going to all their favorite places. Nuccio's was the bakery they always insisted we visit and boy is it always worth it! Any time I travel through the Brooklyn area this is a must stop location! My bf and I are always trying to find an apple strudel the way grandma made it. No one has come close to Nuccio's strudel, not even a high end Austrian coffee shop on 5th Ave in Manhattan. WOW! Nuccio's strudel took us back. It was like a Ratatouille moment when you bite into the food and all your childhood memories flash back. The crust was perfect. The apples inside melt in your mouth. Big A +. Nice little bakery -- inexpensive. Also, try their rainbow cookies. So moist and flavorful. I hosted a dinner party and one of my guests brought a cheese cake and some pastries from this bakery. I found egg shells in the pineapple cheesecake. It was more than just one piece of shell, in my tiny 1/16 of a slice or so, I found at least 7 pieces of egg shell in there. I don't think this will be a place I will be patronizing. read more
