This cafe is pretty cool. Indoor seating with a nice layout, almost looks like an Apple Store layout in a good way lol. Tried the sesame dark chocolate cookie and the matcha tonic on the LA cookie crawl (yes, it's a thing) and both were surprisingly pretty great. Coming back here next time I'm in HP

Beware of street parking on York Blvd. I found luck on a neighboring residential street but street sweeping (No Parking) is from 9-11am Wednesday on one side and Thursday on the other side. Plenty of seats and tables, great for a work from cafe kind of day but might need to go early. People that were there already around noon didn't seem like they would be leaving anytime soon. We only ordered one coffee because we had watered down drinks from another place a few minutes prior. Modu Latte was terrible. Nothing special to it, tasted like a McDonalds' coffee but topped with a cream top.. We really came for their pastries and those were much better than their coffee. Yuja Kumquat Tart -soo good, the chocolate pastry shell wasn't too sweet and paired well with the citrus cream. Dolloped on top was a cream that was light and airy. Candied Kumquat was great touch. Black Sesame Mochi Cake Bar -it's what you expected it to be. Not too sweet.

I came here randomly because I was craving matcha. Was happy to see that they had Hojicha latte as well. The barista checked and she said that the powders do not have milk powder in them. I have a dairy allergy. I ordered the matcha and Hojicha latte with oat milk. My girlfriend had the cold brew with oat milk, and boricua cheesecake. I was disappointed that there was a charge for milk substitutes especially since there's lots of people who are lactose intolerant. Drinks were good. I saw people in the restaurant working on laptops. They had merch for sale as well. Parking is street parking.

I came here with a friend on a Sunday morning after seeing it on Instagram. It wasn't too crowded for a weekend and the interior had ample seating for us. We ordered a yuzu tart and the signature cream pan for our pastries. For drinks, we ordered the matcha latte and the hojicha latte. Starting off with the cream pan, I would say it's solid for what it is; however, it's nothing to write home about. It wasn't too sweet nor heavy which I appreciated, but other than that it was pretty standard. The yuzu tart was very impressive. I admit that I am a big fan of yuzu, but this tart was made quite well. It wasn't too overly powerful, but it still had a nice aroma and taste of yuzu with each bite. I won't say much about the drinks because I don't think that's what this place is known for, but it's just your standard matcha and hojicha you can get anywhere else. All in all, Modu Cafe has an interesting selection of pastries and I had a good experience overall.

If you drive too fast you will miss this place. You can see Galco market not directly across but close enough to know your in the right area. I didn't try the coffee this time but I did get some pastries to try. With all four of the pastry I got, they are not too sweet and I love that. Black sesame mochi cake loaf, you can taste the earthly toasted sesame and the texture is mochi but not too much. Lime tart, really unique with the sugar leaf on top and it goes well with the filling. Tart and I want to say I was able to taste a little of cheese in it too. Cream bun, sooo good airy and fluffy, you don't feel guilty eating it. Because the bun itself is so fluffy and the cream top is just light and delicious and I can see why the staff is making more of them in the kitchen. Last was this black sesame dark chocolate cookie. I really enjoyed it and take little bites of it. It's wonderful. The black sesame and dark chocolate goes well together. Service was very nice and the staff was patience and I was able to ask to put the pastry in separate boxes because I was gifting some

Modu is a cute café just a bit down on York Blvd in a quieter part of town, but offers a nice drink selection and an especially robust Asian-inspired dessert menu. I opted for the Modu Latte, as well as a yuzu kumquat tart and two cookies (black sesame and misu-garu). The cookies were phenomenal, chewy and full of sesame and soybean flavor. Even better was that they weren't too sweet! The yuzu kumquat tart was tasty, although I would've preferred a stronger yuzu punch, as it was quite subtle. The Modu Latte was okay, but I did find it overly sweet; I wish there'd been more coffee to counterbalance the sweetness more. Overall, Modu offers beautiful desserts and drinks and is a great place to sit down and enjoy dessert with a friend or getting work done. Worth a go while in the area!

My wife wanted to try this coffee spot when we were in LA, said their pastries look awesome. I got the matcha tonic which tasted really good, my friend got the coffee tonic, was more sour and bitter than the matcha one. My wife got the best one, the Yuja passion fruit spritz, think it's yuzu but another name. The pastries are all very good, liked the sesame mochi cake the most, cream bun is creamy and dense, my wife liked it a lot, and the Brûlée cheesecake is also very good, a little on the sweeter side. Just note that there aren't many seats available, especially on weekends, we got there on Sunday 3pm ish, it was full. Definitely would revisit for their pastries and buy a drink with them.

First coffee visited that's on the Highland Park Coffee Passport! If you haven't heard of it, and are a coffee lover, I highly suggest purchasing one. Not only do you get discounts for all local coffee shops, but you get to support small businesses too! The first place on our list was Modu Cafe. There isn't a specific order of places to visit, but this one was open and closest during the time we wanted to grab coffee. Located on York Blvd, Modu cafe is a well known coffee and pastry shop. I've actually heard of their pastries before from peers. Parking was found relatively easily as it's in a part of York that is not as busy. The cafe itself is very aesthetic and perfect for multi purpose studying or working. Although I will say their seats are mainly wooden stools or a wooden bench, so if you're looking for long term comfort while seated, maybe take it to go. Staff at the front were very nice and we ended up getting a cold brew variant, a sweeter latte, and one of their brownie cookie offerings. The drinks were made fast and to our liking. Now when you read the menu for the first time, each drink features the specific coffee notes and flavors that you will find in the drink. Usually when I read these on other coffee shop menus I rarely taste what they are highlighting. With Modu Cafe though, what you read is exactly what you'll taste. The cold brew I ordered featured notes of dark chocolate and citrus. I kid you not that was exactly what I tasted in that same order too. This drink was so enjoyable especially if you like coffee for its true flavor. The latte was good too but it wasn't my drink so can't comment much on it. I believe we kicked off the coffee passport with a bang and will have a hard time not comparing other places to here. Highly recommend!

Trying Modu Cafe was actually so fun! Their unique asian flavors were so interesting and hard to choose from because everything sounded so delicious! BLACK SESAME MOCHI BAR: 5/5 Classic mochi bar but with a black sesame flavor - the chewy texture had me taking so many extra bites! PERILLA LEAF LIME TART: 5/5 The candied perilla leaf was so cool and tasted so delicious and herbal! I love lemon tarts so this was an amazing twist! CREAM BUN: 2/5 I truly don't understand the hype of this - it's very cute and aesthetically round but the bread tasted stale and was not soft or pillowy. The fresh cream is nice but not enough to make up for the bread. It's very popular here so it was packed even on a weekday around 11am - definitely come early if you're trying to nab a seat! Lots of people doing work here. There's wifi, restrooms, free parking on the street, and the vibes are very clean minimalistic sleek and japandi.

Service, ambiance, and baked goods are all 5 stars. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and I love their unique selection of baked goods (that they executed perfectly) Amazing texture, flavor, and sweetness level of the cookie and cheesecake I tried. I will DEFINITELY be back to try their drinks and other baked goods.

    Cynthia P.

Perilla lime tart was delicious! Perfect hint of lime and tartness. I did not taste the perilla leaf at all though as it was completely covered in crispy sugar bits. Black sesame mochi bar was good too. Will come back to try more desserts. I also appreciate Modu accommodating my milk substitution request for their signature latte since I don't like oat milk. Free street parking. Make sure to read the signs for street sweeping restrictions!

A local business that is known for their matcha and house-made pastries. Over the past few visits, their drinks and pastries have never been one to disappoint. Their well-known Modu Latte can be described as clean and balanced (e.g., creamy). Their Hojicha options are light and would be nice to drink on a hot day. Despite only having street parking, the inside environment provides natural lighting and minimal seating/table aesthetic. You may struggle if you plan to study here (there are hardly any outlets with the only two being in place for possible light fixtures). Even their bathrooms are clean and minimal. The workers are nice and extremely helpful. I would recommend coming here to catch up with a friend or bring someone for a casual date.

I visited Modu Café specifically for their matcha latte, and for me it was just okay. I felt like the matcha flavor was a bit too light -- maybe it needed more matcha powder to really shine. Their desserts, though, immediately caught my attention. Everything looks so beautiful and Instagram‑worthy that you'd expect it to taste amazing. I ordered their seasonal Yuja Kumquat Tart for $12, and it was absolutely delicious. Not too sweet, with a nice hint of citrus that gives it a refreshing tang. We also tried the black sesame cookie, which was good, but the tart is definitely the standout for me. I'd still come back to try more of their pastries and drinks. There's a lot on the menu that looks promising, and I'm curious to explore more.

The menu is tight and focused, but they do what they do well. Cookies are thick, clearly baked fresh, with that gooey center and crisp edge when they hit right. The space is well thought out. Branding is clean and cohesive, nothing feels random. The outdoor setup is a plus--plenty of chairs to sit, decompress, and people-watch for a bit instead of awkwardly hovering on the sidewalk. Also appreciated: they hand out napkins and utensils without you needing to ask, which you absolutely need with cookies like these. Where it falls short is consistency on warming. If you ask for it heated, expect a bit of a wait--and even then it can come out uneven, warm on the outside but still cold in the middle. Service can feel a little unfocused at times, which probably contributes to that. Still, it's a solid stop for a quality cookie, especially if you're already in the area. Just go in knowing it's better when you catch them on a good moment.

I got a sausage bbang, a chocopie, and a dalgona latte. The sausage bbang was soggy on the bottom and honestly tasted like it was from the day before. The chocopie barely had any filling, just a thin layer of marshmallow and jam. It honestly felt like they used most of the marshmallow for their Dubai choco cookie because it's probably more profitable, instead of properly filling the chocopie. If that's the case, it's better not to sell it at all than serve something like that. The dalgona latte was also disappointing. With ice, the drink only filled to the bottom third line of the cup marking. Clearly, they skimped on the milk. There was also a weird moment when I paid. And I know that vanilla cupcakes with buttercream frosting is pretty easy to make, but sometimes I'd rather just buy baked goods than make them for myself, especially when I'm driving past what I thought was a popular (and presumably good) bake shop. I expected a high-quality cupcake. The cupcakes looked cute, but they were as dry as the Sahara. They should have been labeled as white cupcakes as I didn't detect any vanilla in them. I suspect that the "buttercream" was made with milk and margarine and powdered sugar.....so much powdered sugar. It was sickeningly sweet, and it was dry too. And a true bettercream doesn't even use powdered sugar. So not only were the cupcakes terrible, they were not even what they purported to be. This is like calling a cut of meat a filet mignon and serving a hamburger. Von's, Ralphs and Albertson's make better cupcakes than this for a fraction of othe price.

I love Bottega Louie!! Last weekend I celebrated my birthday here for dinner. I made a reservation…read morewhich makes it so much easier to get seated on a busy night. Sure enough, we were seated right away. My daughter and I love the Portobello fries for a starter. They are so delicious and crispy, and the dipping sauce pairs perfect. For our meal we decided to share a Cesar salad and a pizza. For dessert we actually wanted the CHOCOLATE FRAMBOISE but they were all out. They actually were out of quite a bit of their pastries. The whole pastry counter was completely empty. I asked the server why it was empty and he mentioned they sold out due to graduation season. I decided on the crème brûlée and my daughter ordered chocolate gelato. We enjoyed our dessert. As for the ambiance, if you're looking for a romantic quiet restaurant for dinner. Bottega Louie is not for you. It is a loud up beat restaurant. I personally enjoy it. They have a person making the pizza towards the back and this night a table of guests were cheering him on as he threw the pizza dough up in the air multiple times. So fun to watch! The chefs are also cooking your food with a clear glass around them so you can watch as they prepare the food. Definitely recommend!!

My friend and I finally decided on the pepperoni pizza, the Brussel sprouts, and the Belgian waffle. The pizza was so delicious; it was evidently fresh, made with fresh mozzarella and tomato. The crust was perfectly cooked and crunchy! We were very impressed with the Brussel sprouts. They came mixed with candied walnuts, which was definitely my favorite part about this whole meal. We ate the Belgian waffle last. I thought it would have been too dense or soggy by the end of our meal. It ended up being completely perfect. The only thing I wish was that we had more of that wonderful vanilla whipped cream and fresh seasonal berries. I brought my bff here as a graduation gift. We left with full stomachs and very happy. I loved the decor and elegance of the restaurant. We will return to try the pastries next!!
