The nikuman had a meat (chicken?) and veggie filling that was crunchy and slightly sweet and salty, while the curryman had a traditional Japanese curry filling that was tasty with the perfect amount of spices. They perfectly warmed both body and soul on a chilly LA morning. If I lived nearby, I'd eat these every day! We also tried the yuzu cream pan, which was also pretty epic. The line moves quickly, but this is a very popular spot in the Little Tokyo plaza area. We ordered an iced hojicha latte and nikuman. I like that you can buy little bites from so many different places in this area and walk around and eat, rather than just going to one spot. The hojicha latte was good and refreshing. The nikuman was tasty, but the filling was not my favorite. It was very liquidy on the inside and not as firm as I would typically expect. My trip to Little Tokyo wouldn't be complete without picking something up from Yamazaki Bakery. This bakery is located right in the Japanese Village Plaza Mall. The bakery offers an assortment of Japanese-style breads, desserts and drinks. It is quite small there so it tends to get crowded quickly, but the service is quick! If you're looking for something hot to eat, they offer several steamed buns. The Curry Man and Niku Man are my personal favorites. I really enjoy the variety of items they have and there's something for everyone's tastes. I always find myself grabbing something to eat while I'm there and several items for home. Enter one way and continue in a single line through the shop and exit the back door so that there is only one flow for traffic. Made it easier and efficient. Whenever we're in Japantown, I've always passed by this bakery but never gone in because of the long line. This time there was no line so I popped my head in to see what they had to offer. This is not a fancy bakery by all means. You go in, order and make your way out. We ended up getting a loaf of their Superior Bread which is basically Hokkaido milk bread. My daughter enjoyed this the next day for breakfast and she said it was delicious and very soft. I was also intrigued to see that they have croissant cubes so I ended up getting that too. They are fluffy buns of yummy goodness, flavorful and also very filling. I would suggest eating them right away. They are best when they're fluffy and hot. I eat them hot/warm/tepid but the best is when they're hot. The cost is about $3 & change. I've had their pastries but wasn't overly impressed. In my experience, there's only ever a line during the heart of lunch time, but after that you're good. The staff has always been nice and patient. The public lot associated with the plaza mall (on S. Taco Man is a delicious blend of the soft, heavenly boa bun bread but as a food-pocket-sandwich which encapsulates a Bulgogi-like blend of sautéed onions, beef and spices. It has a Mexican cuisine themed name, Korean flavors inside, and served in a type of bread reminiscent of Chinese dining - this is truly an international dish. Sold For a meager $3.50, get three for you and an additional three for the Mrs. The strawberry croissant is also delicious, flaky, and creamy all at the same time.
