When I was in line at nearby Out of Ordi a young lady near me spilled quite a bit of her drink on her hands and clothes. The poor kid was embarrassed. Love, love, love their Matcha Einspanner! The matcha flavor is nice and strong and it is the perfect level of sweetness. Compared to their neighboring competitors, theirs is much less sweet which I appreciate. I love how they traditionally hand whisk their drinks rather than having them pre-prepared in batches. There are some tables to study at or chat with friends, but the space itself is quite small. The parking lot is almost always full as well. I drove over an hour specifically to try DAMO, and it was absolutely worth the trip. This is genuinely some of the best matcha I've had--even better than ROK. The matcha is clearly high quality, with the perfect matcha-to-milk ratio. It comes out thick, smooth, and beautifully frothy, which shows how strong their whisking technique is. Most importantly, it tastes incredible on its own. It doesn't need a cream top to add flavor or hide a weak matcha base. The new Arts District location is beautiful, spacious, and thoughtfully designed. I'm not someone who automatically falls for trendy, Instagrammable matcha shops--the drink itself still has to deliver--and DAMO absolutely does. Even with a line, everything moved quickly and efficiently. Five stars for the quality, preparation, atmosphere, and overall experience. I went to Damo around 2pm on a weekend, and the line was already starting to form out the door. Unfortunately, the line takes up a majority of the cafe space, along with the few sitting tables, so it was pretty difficult to find a spot to wait for my drink after ordering. The pickup area can also get blocked by the line or waiting area, which can make it a little awkward when you're trying to reach over someone to grab your drink. I ordered the Coconut Hojicha and the Matcha Einspanner. The Coconut Hojicha was refreshing, nutty, and definitely the standout of the two. It's such a fun twist on the typical matcha coconut drink, and I have to give Damo their flowers for creating something that feels unique. The Matcha Einspanner wasn't particularly stand-out compared to some of the other cafes in K-Town, but it was still a well-balanced drink with a nice mix of bitterness, sweetness, and creaminess. Solid matcha place in ktown!! There's so many places around and it's a saturated market so I get the competition... but this place holds its own! Matcha is rich and bold, there's a good amount so it's not weak. Milk ratio is good so it's not diluted at all. The cream top is nice and thick and doesn't melt into the drink! Matcha Cream Top ($7.75)-- I looooove me a nice and thick cream top and this place does it amazingly. It's thick and perfectly sweetened and doesn't melt with the drink/ice. It stays perfectly thick and still and above the matcha unless you mix it in. The matcha is also really nice and rich. None of the bland or grassy taste. Just genuine good matcha! Chocolate Forest ($7.75)-- Basically same as above but the cream on top tastes like Milo/Ovaltine mixed in. It's a nice and sweet nostalgic taste. Not a hint of bitterness so if you want mocha/dark chocolate this is not the one for you. It's more happy kid hot chocolate vibes. Overall I really like this place for their matcha and would get it again. Pricing is steep but all good matcha goes for around $8 nowadays. Theres a shared parking lot (free if you go in the afternoon) but otherwise street parking. read more

This was our last stop of our mini cafe tour when leaving LA and headed back home. We came shortly after opening, so there was plenty of parking and it wasn't crazy crowded yet. Cold brew vanilla: Delicious, I love that tou can see the vanilla cream on top. This was definitely what I needed to wake me up. 2. DAMO has been on my list for a year since I last visited LA, and let me just say it was worth the wait! When my friend and I stopped by, I realized DAMO is located in a plaza I used to frequent for I Love Boba and what used to be Potions & Poisons when I lived in LA back in the early 2020s. After reviewing the menu, my friend ordered the hojicha einspänner since we'd already had one matcha earlier in the day. I ordered the strawberry matcha latte with oat milk, which is typically a safe choice. The cashier seemed to have misheard my name and order because when our drinks were ready, the receipt slip displayed my name incorrectly as "Jane", and my drink was prepared einspänner style even though I requested just a regular strawberry matcha latte. Fortunately, the barista was super nice and understanding and offered to remake my drink on the spot. Since all the tables and counter chairs were taken, we sat on the bench near the front of the café to sip our drinks, which were very good and definitely above average. This is the best matcha I've had in a long time. And that's saying a lot, because I've had matcha everywhere. Earthy, rich, and not too sweet with an equally not too sweet foam to top off the drink was my Damo Hojicha latte. I rarely want to drink more when I've finished my matcha drink but this wasn't the case with my Damo drink. It's really delicious and I didn't want my experience to end. Parking here may be difficult to find on the street, but they do have valet, too. On a Saturday afternoon, this spot is packed and quite hard to find a place to sit. Wi-Fi is available, though note that plugs and seating may be another issue. Not every spot comes with a plug, and it's going to be full, so you may need to wait 15-20 minutes. It is indeed a small spot, so if you're looking for a quiet spot to work, this might not be it. The interior decor, though, is quite clean aesthetically and is relaxing to work in. The Matcha Latte, though, let me say if you're in need of an afternoon pick-me-up, this will keep you energized, even without the sugar! Damo is one of my favorite cafes in LA, and definitely has a special place in my heart because it's where I discovered hojicha! Their hojicha is so nutty, creamy, and balanced. It's not too sweet but just enough that it brings out the hojicha's flavor. I've also tried their matcha, which I think is equally as delicious. You can tell Damo uses good quality hojicha and matcha, which is why I keep coming back. The cafe is also super aesthetic and if it weren't so busy, I imagine it would be a decent place to study. It's is located in a small plaza so parking can be difficult during more busy hours, but I've never struggled too much and normally find parking within 10 minutes.
