The interior is clean, open, and serene. It adds to the ambiance. Though it feels like this place used to be some bathroom supply store previously (there's a random sink on the second floor). Finally got to try out this matcha spot and it's absolutely incredible! Drink: 11/10! I opted in for the Hukuju (Yame) matcha latte and it was divine! I was explaining it to my partner that I love matcha that is grown in the Yame region because it has more nutty notes to it that resembles to black sesame to me and it is distinct and so delicious. I ended up purchasing the 100g bag of it because it has to be one of my favorites now. Service: 10/10. The cashier was incredibly nice and patient with us when we were ordering. I ordered about 3 times and had separate transactions (one for myself and my partner, one for my best friend, and one for the bag) and he was so patient with it. It's really cool to see the baristas hand whisk the matcha because it's the traditional way and it's very nice to see them respect the process of it. Ambiance: 10/10! So aesthetic inside and very clean as well! It was a very open space and I noticed that there was a bar/seating area. I have been a big fan of Kettl since my cousin recommended it to me on a trip to NYC years ago. I have been to the Manhattan and Brooklyn locations, I had to try to LA location as well. The decor gives Zen minimalism vibes. I stopped in on a quiet Saturday morning with friends and ordered the Hukuju matcha latte with koatji milk. Good flavor with notes of nuttiness. I appreciate that Kettl has a variety of tea, but also variety of matcha and milk options as well. Kettl offers quality tea in a landscape of boba abundance and performative matcha drinking that seems to be served at every cafe and coffee shop. 8/22/2025 HUKUJU (YAME) MATCHA Iced Cortado with soy milk. Icy cold (from the 103 degree heat today) and beautifully emerald green! I did not add any honey or simple syrup. Nutty and grassy notes of the matcha at first sip. Then a slight bitterness at the end. Overall very well mixed, as there was a creamy, smooth flavor to round up the whole drink. Soy milk also brings that creaminess too. Although I appreciated the full flavor of the matcha, I think a little bit of added sweetness would of been nice. Personally, I think the Shirakawa (Uji) matcha was my favorite so far. MATCHA COOKIE - Kettl's Suiteki matcha was used to make these cookies by Sqirl. Soft cookie. Very dense, packed with matcha flavor. Has that bitter aftertaste. Very little sweetness. Texture of the cookie had a slight chew like you're eating a brownie. Very good, enjoyed it. Ate it by itself, but a good sobacha or genmaicha would have paired well with it. SHISO WHITE PEACH MATCHA SODA - This is a limited item. If I remember correctly only a summer menu item. Suiteki matcha, shiso white peach nectar, and sparkling water. Very refreshing! The white peach flavor was the main flavor although the matcha was in the background. The sweet, floral matcha supported the sweet peachy flavor. It was a well-balanced fizzy drink! I would have ordered another if it wasn't so expensive. SOBACHA / KETTLE X AUGUST "ICE CREAM BARS" Sobacha is buckwheat tea and it's crafted from roasted buckwheat kernels. The ice cream was a lot more subtle in sobacha flavor and slightly more icier in texture than the matcha and hojicha ice cream bars. The outer white chocolate sobacha coating and toasted sobacha crunch brought a deeper nutty flavor to the whole ice cream. It tasted like toasted rice. It is the same sobacha crunch for the Matcha Chocolate Buckwheat Crunch bar. I've also repurchased the Matcha Chocolate bar and Houjicha Chocolate bar. This is a very peaceful spot in the heart of Hollywood that has some different matcha options. There are three types of matcha to pick from and they have other options like houjicha and sobacha. I chose one of the mild varieties with some pistachio milk and it was lovely. The perfect amount of sweetness to tartness. Clean, rich, and refreshing -- I liked this one the most since I could taste the full depth of the matcha. Also had the Shirakawa (Uji) Cortado, one of their highest grade matchas. Rich in umami, with simple syrup and honey on the side if you want sweetness. For dessert, I tried the Kettl x August Ice Cream Bar -- 100% plant-based, available in matcha, houjicha, and sobacha. Went with matcha and it was intense in flavor, though a bit pricey. I wasn't sure exactly sure how much was it. Price wasn't listed on the menu. Total with two drinks it came out around $30ish. Two drinks costed $13.50. I guess the ice-cream bar costed about $15. The café feels refined and calming, perfect for tea lovers who appreciate authenticity. I've gone to Kettl before in NYC and thought it was okay, but I really liked the aesthetic. When I heard that this place also opened in LA, I wanted to check it out to see if it would be the same as the one in NYC, and my bf also really wanted to try it out. We came on a Saturday afternoon and luckily there was no line. This cafe was bigger than the one in NYC and offered more items like matcha, chasen, whisk, ice cream, etc. I ordered their Sobacha ice cream popsicle and it was pretty good. It had a nutty crunchy texture on the outside and a creamy vanilla flavor on the inside. My bf ordered their matcha latte with the most expansive matcha powder and it was pretty watered down. I had a similar experience when I was in NYC where I wasn't necessarily blown away by their matcha drink. He did buy their bamboo whisk and houjicha powder to go, so we did enjoy the experience of the store. The staff were really nice and attentive, helped explain the different matcha powders that they had and were really patient with us when we were ordering. Speciality matcha cafe that's aesthetic and has great matcha drinks! I visited this matcha cafe on a Saturday afternoon and my experience was pretty good! Walking in, I loved the clean and aesthetic design of the cafe from the traditional Japanese decor to the neat furnitures. I ordered the Shirakawa (Uji) Matcha Latte since I like my matcha drinks strong. The latte did not disappoint. I like how earthy and strong my drink tasted and it was not too milky. I do like my matcha drinks on the sweeter side, so I added some simple syrup (self-serve) in addition to the honey to my drink to make it sweeter. My only critique is my drink was a bit grainy so I would like to see the matcha whisked more. But overall, it was a good matcha drink. The service was pretty good and the servers seemed friendly as well. I liked the seating options and I sat there with my friends for a couple of hours since the vibe there was nice. The first time I visited, there was a lot of staff scrambling around to get the rhythm down, fair. We had waited about 20 minutes before one of the staff members asked if we're waiting on anything and then he brought the drinks to us. This time around, it was a lot better where we got our drinks in about 5-7 minutes after ordering and they weren't as busy which I think was the reason why service was much better. I really thought I'd leave Kettl happier and more satisfied than I did. Perhaps my expectations were too high? I'd seen the Los Angeles influencers hyping the place up so had to check it out for myself. Came by and thankfully there wasn't much of a line so we ordered and were able to snag a corner seat pretty easily. I will say, absolutely love the minimalist Japanese aesthetic. Got the Hukuju latte ($6.75) and Suiteki latte ($7.75) and felt both had unique tastes in that they weren't your standard matcha. That's ok though, I'm all for different. Problem was, they were pretty diluted and the matcha flavor was minimal. I also felt the taste was mid and not something that called out to me. We waited ~10 mins for our drinks with a not super full shop. The staff did nothing to make the experience stand out and just did their job of taking our order and pushing drinks out. It gets toned down in the latte if you're not a fan of the strength. I ordered the highest grade matcha latte with oat milk and there might have been a little too much milk for me. The staff was ok - I was hoping they would be more informative and welcoming but I wonder if they knew what they were selling. If there's one matcha place that has been hyped up in LA, it's Kettl, so I knew I had to go try it. When I first got there, I was pleasantly surprised that the line wasn't too long. The space itself is very nice and has a Japanese minimalist look to it. They've got a wall of matcha products you can buy and they go into depth about what each matcha tastes like which was very cool. However, both of my drinks were pretty bad. My brother tried the iced Gyokuro tea and it was watery/had the faintest tea taste. I got the Suiteki Cortado, which was described as creamy and floral, with soy milk. The first sip I took, I was shocked by how overwhelmingly bitter it was so I swirled my drink around and took another sip. It tasted funky and I had trouble pinpointing why it tasted so bad. But then it hit me: it tasted like sour milk. But I highly doubt the milk went bad because a) it tasted like sour cow milk and I got soy milk, b) when soy milk has gone bad in my fridge it develops clumps and this didn't have any, and c) neither my brother nor I got sick from drinking it. I am so surprised at all the negative and mid reviews! I've been here countless times since Kettl has opened and have had an amazing experience each and every time. The prices are fair and you get the option of either a cortado or latte (I prefer the cortado as the lesser milk allows the matcha to shine a bit more - that is, if you want a 'milk' based drink! Sure you get 'less' but I'm here for quality and not just a milk forward drink.) I'm a fan and I get it, matcha is not for everyone - especially if you do not have the palette for it. If you do not have an acquired taste or don't have any interest in the intricacies of it then don't bash something you are already not a fan of lol. But for those who do have a strong opinion about this place and consider themselves a matcha connoisseur, then to each their own. We are entitled to our opinion and experiences. I've tried all three of the options that are offered at Kettl, my ranking: 1. Suiteki (I'm a floral gyal, so this was my favorite!) 2. Shirakawa (bold and umami, well rounded + needs a bit of honey when ordering IMO) 3. Kettl Tea (est 2025) is a brand new Japanese tea house in Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles. They're located on the corner of N. Vermont ave and Hollywood blvd. KT is owned and operated by Zach and Minami Mangan. They had soft opening today (02/20/25). As we ventured inside this humble tea house, we perused their menu; they have a modest and unique tea items either hot or cold. Their teas came from Japan's most notable tea producers. It has minimalist interior decor with selection of Japanese tea, ceramics, and homewares. Furthermore, its two floor layout is very spacious and naturally well lit. I had the Gyokuro, a shaded green tea with ice. It has an interesting unique taste and flavor. And the best part was today's drinks are on the house - free! Staff were affable and professional. Plenty of street parking. Atmosphere was inviting. Prices seem fair. Overall, it's a great addition to the neighborhood. And the first Japanese tea house in Los Feliz. read more

Reservations for the matcha omakase is super easy; great location in Los Feliz! Went for the regional matcha tasting for two different matchas (no latte/milk) style Really smooth matcha flavors- Sivan was really professional even though I was half drunk earlier. Absolute zen and matcha heaven! Love the tranquil atmosphere and various matcha options. We ordered an iced matcha latte (a little heavy on the nutty flavor) but adding the self-serve honey made it better! Staff was kind and I would definitely go back! read more

More matcha specialist in town, and this one even featured different kinds of matcha with different notes. The place totally gave that zen vibe, but unfortunately when I visited last weekend they didn't open the mezzanine, making the space being very limited. Asking the barista, the first two variants on the matcha list were their most popular. I went for the one that's more nutty with cacao hint, which was more of my preference. They gave the option of going for either cortado if you fancied bolder matcha flavor in your drink, or the latte. I didn't get the negative reviews I read, as their matcha was actually great. Could definitely taste the bold umami flavor, and I even went for the latte, not cortado. They served pistachio and soy as dairy free alternatives, and great news, not charging extra for it. I had mine with pistachio milk and loved it! All drinks came unsweetened so you could adjust them to your sweetness preference. read more
