    Uji Matcha Latte
    Anna N.

Great quality matcha, but quite pricey!! I went for the Shirakawa (Uji) matcha latte which was almost 9 dollars. I like earthy, umami, and rich flavors. That was the highest grade, but there are other less expensive options. Service was as usual. On the weekends, the wait to order and receive your order can be long. The interior is clean, open, and serene. It adds to the ambiance. Though it feels like this place used to be some bathroom supply store previously (there's a random sink on the second floor). There isn't much seating, especially on the weekends when this place gets busy. There is no wifi either, so this isn't quite a study or wfh spot.

Kettl is the real matcha experience before all the hype happened. This is their first L.A. location and I'm so glad they're here! They've mastered the craft of preparing matcha and sell kits to take home. They also do collaborations with other businesses for experimental matcha treats. I got to experience a Matcha 101 class on their second floor that was super fun and educational! It was a privilege to hear about the business and learn how to make matcha the traditional way. We got to prepare two different matchas from different regions in Japan, and their matcha chocolate which was super good! I also bought their houjicha chocolate which I preferred more for the roasted, nutty flavor. As for the drinks, they definitely take on a more traditional approach. They also offer alternative milks and self serve honey and simple syrup since each drink comes unsweetened. Definitely check it out if you're in the area!

I absolutely love everything matcha, and Kettl is one of my favorite places in LA to get high-quality matcha prepared the traditional way! The space itself is lovely - so calming, peaceful, and beautifully designed. I got the Uji matcha latte, which is their highest-grade matcha, and it was so umami and creamy - you can really taste the quality. My friend got the sobacha latte, a fragrant and light roasted buckwheat latte. Their drinks come unsweetened, but they offer sweetener if you like Service is great too - I wasn't expecting the staff to bring my matcha to where I was sitting! The cafe has two stories, with a communal table upstairs that's great for chatting or getting some work done. Just note that they don't have Wi-Fi or outlets. Street or neighborhood parking.

This cafe is matcha mania. All different kinds, flavor profiles, plus non matcha teas for those who don't drink the green dream but accompany their loved ones to matcha mania. But you know what else is mania? Charging $15 for an ice cream pop. The first time I came they had a fantastic matcha cookie by Sqrl. The second time, all they had was the ice cream pop, so I said sure. I had it in my hands, they rang me up, and I could. Not. Believe it. I asked, did you ring me up right? Yes, yes they did. A freaking $15 ice cream pop. It was already in my hands so I went with it, expecting it to be the greatest ice cream pop I've ever had it. Was it? Not even close. Nothing special. Should've been half as much. Mania.

Finally got to try out this matcha spot and it's absolutely incredible! Drink: 11/10! I opted in for the Hukuju (Yame) matcha latte and it was divine! I was explaining it to my partner that I love matcha that is grown in the Yame region because it has more nutty notes to it that resembles to black sesame to me and it is distinct and so delicious. I ended up purchasing the 100g bag of it because it has to be one of my favorites now. Service: 10/10. The cashier was incredibly nice and patient with us when we were ordering. I ordered about 3 times and had separate transactions (one for myself and my partner, one for my best friend, and one for the bag) and he was so patient with it. It's really cool to see the baristas hand whisk the matcha because it's the traditional way and it's very nice to see them respect the process of it. Ambiance: 10/10! So aesthetic inside and very clean as well! It was a very open space and I noticed that there was a bar/seating area. Kettl offers matcha tastings and that is definitely something I want to try next time as I would want to taste all of the different types of matchas. Overall, I would come back for the Hukuju matcha and possibly try the other types of matcha lattes. I would also come back to do the matcha tasting with my partner :)

I had been wanting to try kettl out, and finally had the chance to while I was in LA. The place is nice, very clean look as well as clean. I went on a Wednesday evening, and I was the only person there. They have upstairs sitting, at the bar where they make the drinks, and a comfy area towards the back. I ordered an iced suiteki matcha with almond milk. Such a beautiful green! I didn't add any simple syrup or agave because I wanted to really taste the matcha!

I have been a big fan of Kettl since my cousin recommended it to me on a trip to NYC years ago. I have been to the Manhattan and Brooklyn locations, I had to try to LA location as well. The decor gives Zen minimalism vibes. I stopped in on a quiet Saturday morning with friends and ordered the Hukuju matcha latte with koatji milk. Good flavor with notes of nuttiness. I appreciate that Kettl has a variety of tea, but also variety of matcha and milk options as well. Kettl offers quality tea in a landscape of boba abundance and performative matcha drinking that seems to be served at every cafe and coffee shop. Don't sleep on buying their loose leaf tea to take home as well!

I was pleasantly surprised given the negative reviews! Many said the service isn't great and those working there aren't kind. However, that was not my experience! Those working were thoughtful and knowledgeable. And with all of that said, I took a chance because when I go to coffee shops, customer service is important but the reviews also talked about how incredible the matcha was and I absolutely agree! I got an iced matcha latte with oat milk. I added a little bit of honey and it was perfect! Seating is limited with mostly communal spots so my daughter and I didn't stay but I absolutely would come back!

8/22/2025 HUKUJU (YAME) MATCHA Iced Cortado with soy milk. Icy cold (from the 103 degree heat today) and beautifully emerald green! I did not add any honey or simple syrup. Nutty and grassy notes of the matcha at first sip. Then a slight bitterness at the end. Overall very well mixed, as there was a creamy, smooth flavor to round up the whole drink. Soy milk also brings that creaminess too. Although I appreciated the full flavor of the matcha, I think a little bit of added sweetness would of been nice. Personally, I think the Shirakawa (Uji) matcha was my favorite so far. MATCHA COOKIE - Kettl's Suiteki matcha was used to make these cookies by Sqirl. Soft cookie. Very dense, packed with matcha flavor. Has that bitter aftertaste. Very little sweetness. Texture of the cookie had a slight chew like you're eating a brownie. Very good, enjoyed it. Ate it by itself, but a good sobacha or genmaicha would have paired well with it. SHISO WHITE PEACH MATCHA SODA - This is a limited item. If I remember correctly only a summer menu item. Suiteki matcha, shiso white peach nectar, and sparkling water. Very refreshing! The white peach flavor was the main flavor although the matcha was in the background. The sweet, floral matcha supported the sweet peachy flavor. It was a well-balanced fizzy drink! I would have ordered another if it wasn't so expensive. SOBACHA / KETTLE X AUGUST "ICE CREAM BARS" Sobacha is buckwheat tea and it's crafted from roasted buckwheat kernels. The ice cream was a lot more subtle in sobacha flavor and slightly more icier in texture than the matcha and hojicha ice cream bars. The outer white chocolate sobacha coating and toasted sobacha crunch brought a deeper nutty flavor to the whole ice cream. It tasted like toasted rice. It is the same sobacha crunch for the Matcha Chocolate Buckwheat Crunch bar. I've also repurchased the Matcha Chocolate bar and Houjicha Chocolate bar. Brought ice packs to make sure that none of them melts in the car! Btw, if you can sign up for the Kettl Loyalty Program at the store or via online. Earn 1 Point for every $1 spent. All you need to do is check-in in store or online and pay to earn. I've also purchased the Soukou Matcha, Shinme Matcha and Jou Yanagi Houjicha from Kettl's website with complete satisfaction! Really enjoying my iced matchas and I've used the houjicha for hot teas and houjicha banana cake! CUSTOMER SERVICE The service was good today! Better than the last time I was there. I felt the filming crew distracted everyone the last time I was there. Today, the baristas were attentive and the drinks were better from last time too! PARKING It is so awful to find parking around here! I drove around and around just to find decent parking. Finally found parking at Lyman Pl. (near Mendocino Farms). The barista also told me that Jons also had free parking, so if you're grabbing a quick matcha, then park over there. They do not tow your car.

After taking a friend out for her birthday at a Thai spot across the street, I remembered that she LOVES matcha. Upon a previous time for Thai...I made note of KETTL in my notes....of course I saved it to a Yelp list....I have many lol. This is a nice zen location with all things about tea. It did not disappoint!! Service was intentionally thoughtful and you could tell that the staff really loved what they were doing and aimed to please. The mood or ambiance is sooo chill and relaxed. Need a peaceful respite...go check them out

overall (4.7/5): I def want to come back and try more of their drinks. drinks: we got one of the matcha lattes and hojicha lattes. I like that the drinks come unsweetened and u can add sweeter to taste. both drinks were pretty good! I do want to try the other matcha options tho. service: the workers were super friendly and provided recommendations of which matcha option to choose. drinks came out pretty quickly too. ambiance: inside was super cute and welcoming with an downstairs and upstairs seating area. street parking is available but u can also park around the corner in the neighborhood.

The menu selection here is amazing and it's everything I want in a matcha cafe but my experience was not as amazing The amount of matcha available here is a matcha lovers dream! They have lattes, teas, Hojicha, and other tea drinks that I haven't seen in other atores. They even have matcha chocolates and matcha ice cream! Their variety and quality of matcha is their strongest feature. I love the wood and the design of the main area of the cafe! The atmosphere was zen and light. Although, the lighting and the interior is beautiful in the front but the seating in the back was lacking a bit. There's 2 large seating tables on the first floor and 1 large table for public sharing on the loft + a bench. The lighting is not great in either places so make sure you take your drink pics in the front. It was also loud and stuffy inside so although the interior is built to be relaxing, the experience of being there was not. The cashier was super friendly kind and informative when we had questions about the drink varieties but the vibe I got from the barista was not very welcoming. I want to love this place but because of the headache of finding parking, the unwelcoming demeanor from the barista. -HOJICHA LATTE (8.5/10) Nice earthy and bitter taste -MATCHA LATTE(6/10) Mid -WHITE PEACH MATCHA (9/10) Had a perfect balance of sweet and sour! A great drink for refreshing hot days - Free street parking - No outlets - Lots of variety in matcha drinks!

Stopped by Kettl in Los Angeles -- a specialty Japanese tea house with direct ties to growers in Japan Tried their Shaken Matcha -- simple, no milk, no sugar. Clean, rich, and refreshing -- I liked this one the most since I could taste the full depth of the matcha. Also had the Shirakawa (Uji) Cortado, one of their highest grade matchas. Rich in umami, with simple syrup and honey on the side if you want sweetness. For dessert, I tried the Kettl x August Ice Cream Bar -- 100% plant-based, available in matcha, houjicha, and sobacha. Went with matcha and it was intense in flavor, though a bit pricey. I wasn't sure exactly sure how much was it. Price wasn't listed on the menu. Total with two drinks it came out around $30ish. Two drinks costed $13.50. I guess the ice-cream bar costed about $15. The café feels refined and calming, perfect for tea lovers who appreciate authenticity. Street parking may be hard to find, but if you are willing to walk, there are plenty of metered blocks away.

It was really interesting that one of the Americanos was made with Ecuador Los 4 Mundos beans, and the other was made with Colombia El Diviso. When a staff member brought over my hot Vanilla Latte, I asked to make sure it was decaf. He took it back just to double-check for me, and then confirmed that it was indeed decaf. The coffee here is all delicious, and the staff are incredibly friendly, which I really liked. However, the chairs were quite uncomfortable to sit in, and the Vanilla Latte was still pretty sweet even though I ordered it "less sweet." Still, the coffee tastes so good and the staff are so incredibly kind, so it's a really great coffee shop. P.S. A funny thing: They had dog treats in a jar. I immediately thought of my boss's absolutely super, incredibly cute dogs, so I asked for an empty cup and packed some treats to bring to the office for them today. But when I finished my coffee and was heading out, I totally forgot and accidentally threw the cup of treats away along with the empty coffee cups. OMG. (But seriously, all dogs and cats always absolutely love me. Hahaha. When I get to work, my boss's dogs come over wagging their tails and greeting me so excitedly--they are just so, so adorable. And as for cats, there's a stray that I've been feeding every single morning on my way to work for over 4-5 years now. She currently lives at the Buddhist temple I attend. Every day when I go, she follows me around everywhere. She absolutely loves it when I scratch her back with a brush, and when I'm done and try to leave, she taps my foot to tell me to scratch more! It's just so totally cute and lovable. It's a completely white cat, and so incredibly pretty.)
