The price plus the size plus the flavor..... nooooooot worth it for me. I had seen the hype and wanted to go but the hype was not it... and it wasn't busy at all. Ugh so unfortunate but what can you do. I do love the decor lol but other than that, it just didn't taste good and i forced it as well as the other drinks we had gotten (i tried them all in case i liked one more) and i always ask everyone in case my taste buds are off or something but everyone had a face on too and didnt like it haha. Ugh bummer
Stopped in for a matcha and found it difficult to choose from all the different choices. I ultimately decided on the double green pistachio matcha, which had no shortage of pistachio. I would recommend adding sweetener with this particular flavor because of the nuts. Other than that, it was still a solid drink, and the color was beautiful. Just a little bit pricey though so I wouldn't come out of my way for it. My main reason for coming here was the Basque cheesecake. I ordered the Oreo one and it was so creamy. I devoured it as soon as I got home! I like that the basque cheesecakes are more creamy rather than dense with a bite to it. It feels less rich so maybe that's why I ate it so quickly!
It was my first time visiting Olive & James! Parking is a nightmare; the lot is small and there are some inconsiderate drivers who will box your car in because they're "trying to grab a quick order". Be careful and mindful! It was very green and aesthetic inside the cafe. The you could order with the cashier or utilize their kiosk on the left. We had ordered their tiramisu latte and a hojicha tiramisu. We were able to customize our sweetness levels and the type of milk we wanted without extra charge. It didn't take long for our drinks to arrive. Both drinks were quite delicious. They tasted like coffee and hojicha was on par. The biscoff on top was a nice touch, too. I think the most disappointing aspect was how tiny the drink cups are. Paying over $8 for a tiny cup wouldn't make anyone happy. These are the LA prices for you. Still a must try for any matcha/coffee fans. I'd recommend making the stop if you're in the area.
This spot has a beautiful atmosphere with black marble tables, fresh tea light candles, and a pastry case full of absolutely delicious-looking cakes. The coffee cream was rich, thick, and not overly sweet, and I appreciated that they also offered a coconut cream option. My one complaint is the coffee. I wish they offered cold brew for a smoother iced coffee experience. Their iced coffee is made with espresso poured over ice, which tends to bring out more bitterness, and it was a bit too bitter for my taste. Also, be prepared for the noise level. When it gets crowded, it's painfully loud, making conversation or work difficult. If you're planning to stay awhile, noise-canceling headphones might be your best friend. Overall, a lovely café with great ambiance and tempting desserts, but I might go for a matcha next time.
The rich, creamy Basque cheesecake pairs amazingly well with the earthy bitterness of the matcha. It balance each other out perfectly!
I've been meaning to visit their Melrose location but always end up putting it off. I'm appreciative that their second location is much closer and an easy drive! We ordered their Double Green Pistachio Coffee and Matcha. The matcha was delicious! The pistachio rim added a nice chewy texture against the cream top. It wasn't overly sweet and the quality of matcha was great! The color was bright and not too earthy. The cafe is cute with plenty of tables and chairs--good for a date or catching up with friends. The staff are nice and the wait time was OK--there was a lot of people during our visit. Overall, my first time was a positive experience and I would likely come back!
tried this spot for the first time and it was cute establishment with friendly staff. they were pretty limited on seating/tables but it was also pretty busy inside when we went. this matcha drink was definitely on the sweeter side but i think it was the specific vanilla syrup they use. it's not as thick/creamy as i like but im sure the matcha would shine through more if we had gotten maybe honey or a different sweetener.
It's May 2, 2026! Happy National Matcha Day!! Ohhh yesss...Matcha craving totally satisfied at OLIVE & JAMES (Silverlake) Los Angeles, CA! What a gem!! I discovered O&J through my TikTok FYP where they announced a collab with Estherscafe_ to promote the Mango Strawberry Matcha!! Also, the first 200 customers would receive a free gift from Esther! The drink was PERFECTION!! And the free gift was so thoughtful, which included a tiny, personalized envelope. The Japanese Toast Egg & Bacon Sandwich was hands down THE BEST breakfast sandwich I've had. Seriously!! We waited a while for it, and now I can see why!! It was made with complete care and love. We personally thanked Olive after we finished everything, and she was kind! She said we should come back to try the Japanese Toast Beef Sandwich. The Basque Cheesecake was out of this world!!! So creamy and delicious. I picked the regular (plain) slice, but they also have seasonal flavors like Mango Strawberry and Oreo! We arrived just before their 8:30am opening time and there was already a handful of people waiting. Oh the anticipation! I was already drooling just thinking about the food and beverage. The interior is designed with deep green hues, which made the ambiance feel cool, calm, and prepared to drink matcha!!
This is actually delicious matcha its perfect. I tried both their star items on the menu 1. Tiramisu Matcha Latte + Coconut Matcha Latte The tiramisu matcha latte was amazing and the biscoff cookie was delicious. I did add vanilla sweetner so it was extra sweet. 10/10 The coconut matcha had a blue foam that was fresh, not very coconutty tho, but I did add coconut milk to make it even fresher and it was great. No sweetner so it was not as sweet-- 8/10 Vibes were cute, parking in silverlake is always a plus and service was great, the baristas were very nice
I was early to a facial so I was looking for somewhere to kill time and between here and rok, I picked Oliver & James for some cheesecake because I wanted something to eat while sipping on matcha. It's a cute spot, but I'm getting a little old lol so the lack of lighting and menus being off to the side away from the register was a little off-putting. I actually didn't realize they had other food aside from the cheesecake till I saw a guy at another table get breakfast. The matcha was good, but I didn't get a strong pistachio flavor from the cream top. The pistachio ring around the cup felt a little gimmicky and overall, the price for the amount of matcha felt really steep. I get everywhere is expensive now and you're not supposed to inhale matcha, but I wasn't super impressed. The basque cheesecake was good; almost pushed my review to 4 stars because of it. The cream top for it was also not super flavorful; it was actually less sweet than the cheesecake which was an interesting contrast. The strawberry was really tart so you know it's fresh. Anyways, I know everything is expensive nowadays, but in terms of where I'd personally overspend, this didn't hit the mark for me and i'd only come back if someone I knew wanted to check them out.

Loved the triple matcha. The matcha latte in it was not too sweet I can taste a strong matcha flavor, the matcha cream was sweet and strong, and the matcha ice cream was just perfect too. The matcha was a beautiful vibrant green. I hate an overly sweet matcha or too much milk, but the ratios were perfect. My husband said the coffee was delicious too. The workers were nice and welcoming as well.

I have been wanting to visit their original location, but because it's a bit far, I have been putting it off. Now, it's less than a mile away with parking in the plaza; I can visit as many times as I wish. Olive x James is known for their matcha, if I am not mistaken. They have a variety of options to choose from, and me being me, I had to go with hojicha because I am a big, big hojicha fan. I also ordered the Matcha Strawberry Cake in a Cup (there was only one left) to try, and it did not disappoint. More than the drink, I enjoyed the cake. Just from looking, I was a bit worried about the cream being overly sweet, but it was not! That was really nice. The cream was semi-sweet to my liking and very rich in flavor, which went so well with the cake. I would definitely order this again. But, I think they are well known also for their Basque cheesecake, so that is next on my list, specifically the one topped with strawberry cream/frosting. My Tiramisu Hojicha Latte was great. I loved that they had Lactaid whole milk as one of the options. I am lactose intolerant like many other Asians, and I would rather have Lactaid whole milk over oat or almond milk any day. They top it off with a piece of Lotus Biscoff cookie, which I am not a fan of, but I just left it inside the drink, and it got soft and became part of the drink. The staff helping me was so friendly and patient as I was asking questions as a first-timer. I really love the aesthetics of this cafe. Love the colors and furniture. Love the vibe; it's very different and unique from all the other coffee shops nowadays. As far as the matcha goes, I make matcha at home myself, and I have a top-grade ceremonial matcha, and I don't know if any place can compare with that, but I will have to come back and try myself to find out. It is so close and convenient!
Olive x James was my girlfriend's idea to stop by before a tattoo appointment, and dare I say this might be some of the best matcha I've had throughout SoCal, especially LA. The interior is pretty cool inside, the tiling, ambiance, decor. Honestly love it all! Parking is in a small lot, so keep that in mind. She got the blue coconut matcha extra sweet, while I got the double green pistachio matcha. Trying hers was one of the best matchas I've had in general, the coconut isn't too prominent, but still there, and the cream they added made it taste like lucky charms a bit, which was pretty unique, but lovely. My pistachio matcha was nutty, as per with the order itself, but overall amazing. I'd definitely lean towards the blue coconut in the future because it was just that good. Definitely stop by here if you're ever in the area! This might be my favorite now in LA! read more
First location was amazing so I was excited to try this place. I got even more excited when I noticed "Free" chai on the ordering kiosk. I seriously didn't think it was real lol I still placed an order for a matcha coconut, Hojicha latte, the free tiramisu chai & blue coconut chai. When the drinks came out, we really got 4 drinks! Somehow, I was more excited to try the free chai drinks than the ones I wanted. Both chai drinks were super sweet!!!!!! Like why...we couldn't drink it. We had to toss it away. So sad! It looked good! The flavors were good, but just insanely sweet. The matcha coconut was a bit too sweet. The matcha was pretty strong. It overpowered the coconut so it was bitter and sweet at the same time. Hojicha latte was ok. It wasn't sweet, but was too milky for me. I dunno..this place just didn't hit the same as the first. Olive & James is such a vibe. The whole place just has a really chill, easygoing vibe--perfect spot to sit, relax, and enjoy your drink without feeling rushed. We ended up trying the Tiramisu Hojicha Latte, the Blue Coconut Matcha, and a slice of their Basque cheesecake, and honestly everything hit. The hojicha latte was smooth and had that deep roasted flavor, and the tiramisu twist made it feel a little different in a good way. The Blue Coconut Matcha was super refreshing and light--not too sweet, which I appreciated. But the Basque cheesecake... that was the standout for me. Super creamy, soft in the middle, with that slightly burnt top that gives it a nice balance. You can tell they take their time with it. Overall, just a really good experience--good drinks, good dessert, and a great vibe. We will be back soon. read more

I was so excited to finally check out the new Olive and James location in Silver Lake! The service was friendly, and I love how they switched up their aesthetic for this location - the deep green color scheme and decor give the space a moody, elegant, and refined vibe. The space itself is on the smaller side but there are a couple tables inside and outside the store. I normally go for their matcha so I tried something different this time - I got their tiramisu hojicha latte (less sweet) and it was yummy! The cream is on the sweet side so I could have even gotten the latte unsweetened. The downside is their cups are on the small size - I do wish they were bigger for the price. I need to stop by again and try their food items and cheesecake! Parking: street parking or limited parking in the lot out front. read more

I was in the area needed a pick me up and decided to give this place a try. It a small coffee shop but plenty of seating. We ordered an ice tiramisu latter. My son had the blue coconut drink. The price was regular like any other place. The guy took his time to make the coffee so I knew it was going to be good. When it came out the coffee looked delicious. The cups are definitely unique. Tried their Melrose location before and was excited to check out this newer Sunset location! The Melrose shop has more of a white colored, minimalistic aesthetic, while the Sunset location has a darker, black color interior that gives it a different vibe. I ordered their matcha latte, which was solid overall. I personally prefer a more roasted umami matcha flavor profile, but theirs leans more toward a rich, vegetal, grassy profile. If that's your ideal matcha style, you'll definitely enjoy it here! The space itself is on the smaller side, with about five small tables and one long communal table. They also sell basque cheesecakes, which looked really tempting. There's a small parking lot available. I went on a Saturday and noticed that around 11am, a long line started to form. But arriving before 11am made parking easy, and there wasn't much traffic getting in or out. Overall a fun place to try out! read more
Olive & James is a cute and quaint coffee shop that provides nice and calm vibes for sure but I have seen the line go out the door and it is for good reason! The workers for very nice and chill and got the drinks done asap so it was nice going in for drinks even mid day. The drinks were also both so good and my wife and I'd favorite was definitely the triple matcha! Absolutely loved this coffee shop! The space is small but incredibly cute, cozy, and welcoming. The ambiance made it a great place to relax and enjoy a drink. I ordered the Double Green Pistachio Matcha, and it was amazing. It was rich, creamy, perfectly balanced, and had a delicious nutty pistachio flavor without being overly sweet. It's easily one of the best matcha drinks I've had. The friendly atmosphere, charming décor, and delicious drinks made for a wonderful experience. I'll definitely be coming back to try more from the menu. Highly recommend if you're a matcha lover! read more
Their vibe was very cool and a nice place for a sit down. Their matcha wasn't that good but their hojicha was delicious! I thought their food was also okay, their breakfast plate is def the best in my opinion. Not much service since it was over the counter ordering and we picked up our own food. read more
I got a blue coconut matcha and it's probably one of the best matcha drinks I've had. Inside has a nice aesthetic and there's an area where you can see inside the kitchen at what the chefs are making. I was looking for something to eat but I couldn't find a menu of what they had to eat or if they did so I wasn't able to get anything. Maybe next time would work better. read more
Glad they opened this location in Silverlake as it is much closer to us than the melrose location. I really like dark green / emerald tones and tables that have little candles on them. It gives an intimate vibe. The staff was friendly and helpful. We ordered the Double Green Pistachio Coffee and Double Green Pistachio Matcha. Both were exclusive for the Silverlake location. Both drinks were great and highly recommended. The pistachio flavor really comes through without being overwhelming. Will definitely come back to try the cakes and other food menu items which look really good. read more

Cute little cafe within a small strip center. Parking is available, but spaces can be taken because of the multiple businesses in the center. I actually finished getting a pedicure when I noticed a little line of people a few doors down and some outdoor tables. I had read about Olive & James but didn't know exactly where it was located, so happy that I stumbled upon O&J. I ordered the hojicha latte with honey. There is a choice of milks and sweeteners, which was nice for options. I also ordered the beef sandwich on Japanese Bread since it was lunchtime. Service was quick and friendly. The cafe has a handle full of tables/chairs inside and the darker decorum made it cozy. I really enjoyed the Hojicha latte. It wasn't overly sweet and I could taste the hojicha. Is it me or are cups shrinking?? Cute containers but they seem a bit small for the price. The sandwich was tasty. They used marinated beef, so it was flavorful. It's served with mushrooms on soft Japanese milk bread. The bread to meat ratio was perfect. This is one of those places that if you are thirsty, driving by and can get parking, then it was meant to be to stop for a drink as there are a lot of matcha and coffee places in the general vicinity. But, the sandwich options and the various basque cheesecakes (which I did not try) make this a more than just a fancy drink destination. read more

Short little delicious drinks. I love this place so much. The only issue is paying $17.56 for two short iced down drinks you can drink in two sips is a lot before tipping. They could even add more ice and a talker sippy cup to make people feel like they aren't being taken. read more

I was already a fan of Olive x James, so when they opened a location in Silverlake, I was eager to check it out. This location feels like the other's cooler, moodier, sister. A lux, cave-like oasis decked out with greens and golds, it feels elevated and glamorous. This location is bigger than the one in Melrose District, so while it was quite busy, it didn't feel packed. Service was fast and friendly and my tiramisu matcha latte hit as always. Seems this location also does a signature basque cheesecake. Tragically, I was already over my dairy limit, but I'll be back to try it out. read more
Delicious matcha. I don't think you need to add sweetener - the cream top is already pretty sweet. Nice staff plus bathrooms and parking. Aesthetic inside. Wish there was more outdoor seating! I'll always come back for their matcha. read more
very trendy & moody spot / can't believe how much it has transformed from cochinito {rip} it's a great little space. parking is decent depending on time of day, either in the small lot of the strip mall or on side streets or meters on sunset. the matcha itself was delicious but definitely pricey! more of a treat spot, for sure. service was really great & I will def be back. read more
I enjoyed this spot! The strawberry basque cheesecake so yummy. I got the blue coconut latte and it was good but I just wish it had more coconut flavor i barely tasted it so it was just kinda like a standard latte but I drank it all. The pistachio was good too. I'd come back for the cheesecake! read more

Cute little coffee spot with a cozy vibe. The place is small but really charming, and the servers were awesome--super friendly and welcoming. I tried the tiramisu latte and the blue matcha, and both were surprisingly good. The tiramisu latte had a nice dessert-like flavor without being overly sweet, and the blue matcha was refreshing and unique. Only downside is parking is pretty limited, so you might need a little patience finding a spot. Still definitely worth stopping by! read more
