I came here with a friend on a Sunday morning after seeing it on Instagram. It wasn't too crowded for a weekend and the interior had ample seating for us. We ordered a yuzu tart and the signature cream pan for our pastries. For drinks, we ordered the matcha latte and the hojicha latte. Starting off with the cream pan, I would say it's solid for what it is; however, it's nothing to write home about. It wasn't too sweet nor heavy which I appreciated, but other than that it was pretty standard. The yuzu tart was very impressive. I admit that I am a big fan of yuzu, but this tart was made quite well. It wasn't too overly powerful, but it still had a nice aroma and taste of yuzu with each bite. I won't say much about the drinks because I don't think that's what this place is known for, but it's just your standard matcha and hojicha you can get anywhere else. All in all, Modu Cafe has an interesting selection of pastries and I had a good experience overall.

Modu is a cute café just a bit down on York Blvd in a quieter part of town, but offers a nice drink selection and an especially robust Asian-inspired dessert menu. I opted for the Modu Latte, as well as a yuzu kumquat tart and two cookies (black sesame and misu-garu). The cookies were phenomenal, chewy and full of sesame and soybean flavor. Even better was that they weren't too sweet! The yuzu kumquat tart was tasty, although I would've preferred a stronger yuzu punch, as it was quite subtle. The Modu Latte was okay, but I did find it overly sweet; I wish there'd been more coffee to counterbalance the sweetness more. Overall, Modu offers beautiful desserts and drinks and is a great place to sit down and enjoy dessert with a friend or getting work done. Worth a go while in the area!

If you drive too fast you will miss this place. You can see Galco market not directly across but close enough to know your in the right area. I didn't try the coffee this time but I did get some pastries to try. With all four of the pastry I got, they are not too sweet and I love that. Black sesame mochi cake loaf, you can taste the earthly toasted sesame and the texture is mochi but not too much. Lime tart, really unique with the sugar leaf on top and it goes well with the filling. Tart and I want to say I was able to taste a little of cheese in it too. Cream bun, sooo good airy and fluffy, you don't feel guilty eating it. Because the bun itself is so fluffy and the cream top is just light and delicious and I can see why the staff is making more of them in the kitchen. Last was this black sesame dark chocolate cookie. I really enjoyed it and take little bites of it. It's wonderful. The black sesame and dark chocolate goes well together. Service was very nice and the staff was patience and I was able to ask to put the pastry in separate boxes because I was gifting some

My wife wanted to try this coffee spot when we were in LA, said their pastries look awesome. I got the matcha tonic which tasted really good, my friend got the coffee tonic, was more sour and bitter than the matcha one. My wife got the best one, the Yuja passion fruit spritz, think it's yuzu but another name. The pastries are all very good, liked the sesame mochi cake the most, cream bun is creamy and dense, my wife liked it a lot, and the Brûlée cheesecake is also very good, a little on the sweeter side. Just note that there aren't many seats available, especially on weekends, we got there on Sunday 3pm ish, it was full. Definitely would revisit for their pastries and buy a drink with them.

Service, ambiance, and baked goods are all 5 stars. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and I love their unique selection of baked goods (that they executed perfectly) Amazing texture, flavor, and sweetness level of the cookie and cheesecake I tried. I will DEFINITELY be back to try their drinks and other baked goods.

I visited Modu Café specifically for their matcha latte, and for me it was just okay. I felt like the matcha flavor was a bit too light -- maybe it needed more matcha powder to really shine. Their desserts, though, immediately caught my attention. Everything looks so beautiful and Instagram‑worthy that you'd expect it to taste amazing. I ordered their seasonal Yuja Kumquat Tart for $12, and it was absolutely delicious. Not too sweet, with a nice hint of citrus that gives it a refreshing tang. We also tried the black sesame cookie, which was good, but the tart is definitely the standout for me. I'd still come back to try more of their pastries and drinks. There's a lot on the menu that looks promising, and I'm curious to explore more.

Trying Modu Cafe was actually so fun! Their unique asian flavors were so interesting and hard to choose from because everything sounded so delicious! BLACK SESAME MOCHI BAR: 5/5 Classic mochi bar but with a black sesame flavor - the chewy texture had me taking so many extra bites! PERILLA LEAF LIME TART: 5/5 The candied perilla leaf was so cool and tasted so delicious and herbal! I love lemon tarts so this was an amazing twist! CREAM BUN: 2/5 I truly don't understand the hype of this - it's very cute and aesthetically round but the bread tasted stale and was not soft or pillowy. The fresh cream is nice but not enough to make up for the bread. It's very popular here so it was packed even on a weekday around 11am - definitely come early if you're trying to nab a seat! Lots of people doing work here. There's wifi, restrooms, free parking on the street, and the vibes are very clean minimalistic sleek and japandi.

Perilla lime tart was delicious! Perfect hint of lime and tartness. I did not taste the perilla leaf at all though as it was completely covered in crispy sugar bits. Black sesame mochi bar was good too. Will come back to try more desserts. I also appreciate Modu accommodating my milk substitution request for their signature latte since I don't like oat milk. Free street parking. Make sure to read the signs for street sweeping restrictions!

Espresso is yummy, but the tonic here is not my favorite! Will have to come back and try the lattes and matcha too before giving a final rating. Unfortunately, I cannot have their baked goods since none are vegan. Very aesthetically pleasing. Saturday morning is a little too packed for me, but you can always get to go. Parking is plenty (street).

A local business that is known for their matcha and house-made pastries. Over the past few visits, their drinks and pastries have never been one to disappoint. Their well-known Modu Latte can be described as clean and balanced (e.g., creamy). Their Hojicha options are light and would be nice to drink on a hot day. Despite only having street parking, the inside environment provides natural lighting and minimal seating/table aesthetic. You may struggle if you plan to study here (there are hardly any outlets with the only two being in place for possible light fixtures). Even their bathrooms are clean and minimal. The workers are nice and extremely helpful. I would recommend coming here to catch up with a friend or bring someone for a casual date.

I was in the area visiting another coffee shop and I had another craving for another coffee drink because the first coffee shop that I went to was a really small drink that left me craving for more. I thought I was going to get another drink from the same spot but then I Google and saw this so I figured I'd try somewhere different with another cup of coffee. . I actually got myself a ice Americano and I really do love the cup it is served in a half glass with some ice cube and it was really great quality espresso beans that is more on the floral side. It was not acidic and it was more bold. . The star of the show is their pastry case. I had to get their black sesame Mochi cake which was amazing. For any black sesame lover this is the one that you must get because it's a mochi which is a texture of chewy and bouncy. The black sesame flavor was really nice and bold and you can taste it for sure. . I also try their milk bread with fresh cream inside and it was great but the black sesame Mochi cake stole my heart. I will go try out their other pastries in their case next time. . The ambience inside is minimal and it is really nice and bright. There is plenty of seating but there is a lot of people sitting in there. The service was friendly and informative when I had questions about the drinks. Hope this review helps and thanks for reading and have a yelp-tastic day.

I came for the Milk Cream Bun but fell in love with the Perilla Lime Tart. Came here on a Saturday afternoon around 2pm and the pastry selection was limited. I found street parking easily and arrived to find only seven people in line before me. The shop is small and has a natural feel. In the display case, there were only six desserts available. Luckily, I got the last three Milk Cream Buns of the day. The cream is very light and airy, the bun is thick. I wouldn't recommend putting the bun in the fridge because the cream consistency altered and the bun was tough. The pastry is cute but not my favorite. The Perilla Lime Tart was my favorite and I'd recommend it to anyone that loves Key Lime Pie. The crust was perfectly crisp, the lime custard was light and slightly tart, and the perilla leaf was sugary and sweet to balance out the dessert.

Vibe & Interior: Absolutely stunning. The space leans very zen: birch-toned furniture, washed gray walls, and a calm, minimalist aesthetic. Plenty of seating for both larger groups and quiet solo hangs. One of the prettiest cafés we've visited in a while. What We Ordered * Iced vanilla latte * Cold brew * Cream puff Both drinks were solid but what was even more memorable was the glasswar. It's gorgeous, and the hot drinks coming out of the bar looked equally photogenic. The cream puff was the real standout--fresh, light, and easily the best thing we tried. Service: 10/10. Thoughtful, attentive staff and fast drink turnaround. It's a self-bus setup, but they make it very clear and easy. What It's Known For: Modu has been getting buzz for its aesthetic-forward design, beautiful ceramics and glassware, and pastry program (especially the cream puffs)--very much a "come for the vibes" café that's popular with design lovers and content creators. Good For: Pretty much anything: working, catching up with friends, or a quiet solo coffee moment. Price & Value: ~$15 for two drinks and a pastry which is standard for specialty coffee these days. Parking: Street parking only. We got lucky, but plan for a little circling. Pro Tip: Skip takeout and drink it there. The space is a big part of the experience--and honestly, the highlight.

I stayed a whole day to study at the cafe and was able to try all 3 of their cortados, their matcha coconut refresher, and the almond croissant. My favorite drink was the espresso loop which was so delicious with the smooth and balanced flavor of the espresso with a taste of chocolate and citrus which I love. Their espresso is strong and I also enjoyed their espresso trung which was similar to the taste of tiramisu to me. Their espresso black sesame had a really nutty flavor with a stronger espresso flavor, but it wasn't my favorite. I really loved their almond croissant which had a sweet glaze crust on top and an almond paste filling. Their matcha coconut refresher was so good but SO pricey for $9.31 after tax. They use Nami matcha for the matcha cold foam, but hard to justify that price considering it's just the matcha foam with coconut water. Otherwise it was super delicious and great to try, but prob won't be splurging on that next time. Overall a great spot for great coffee and studyability. I'd recommend either coming earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon for a better chance of getting seats.
