The Venice outlet used to be my go-to, but since I moved the Larchmont one was more accessible. Parking's always tricky and might require bit of extra walk when not available. It's relatively busy but the line moved swiftly. The Larchmont store was pretty lively with the crowded and colorful wall deco! It's pretty fun to see that they came up with more seasonal items lately and most of them nailed it well when they came to cookies. Previously the lemon one and the most recent was the Raspberry Pistachio which I was impressed by as I just fancied sweet and refreshing combo of white chocolate and raspberry. The pistachio added more texture to it for sure. Same as any Levain cookies, best enjoyed warm and fresh out of oven. The Cookie Milk Latte was actually the main reason bringing me here, yet I was bit let down by it as I was expecting more malty cookie flavor in the drink. Based on my memories, this LA location keeps it consistent with a similar taste and texture as the NY location. 3.5/5 Chocolate Chip Walnut: This cookie was tall and slightly undercooked in the middle. The middle was a bit on the squishy side, and crunchy on the outside. Due to the undercooked quality, it's not a cookie I'd get regularly, though I am a big chocolate chip cookie fan. 5/5 Rocky Road: This was delicious. I'm not usually a marshmallow fan, but the addition of this ingredient formed a nice chewy consistency that I expect from a cookie. Great vibes and friendly people. As far as actual cookies go, I got the Walnut Chocolate Chip and Rocky Road. I know Levain pioneered undercooked cookies. Personally, I don't like that style, I was hoping the original would change that for me! Long story short, I didn't like the Walnut Chocolate Chip. I personally just don't like that style still, so I'll chalk it up as a "me" problem. The cooked part was good. The Rocky Road was cooked through. It's more than enough time to run next door and grab your treats. I ordered a slice of the lemon loaf, a gluten-free cookie, and the classic chocolate chip cookie. The lemon loaf slice is huge, I'd say it's the equivalent of two slices, so it's definitely big enough to share. As for the cookies, Levain is known for making them thick and rich. I'm a baker and cookies are also my specialty so with that said, I am very judgemental of cookies. You won't catch me at a Crumbl (my apologies if you're a fan). I was curious about Levain. Often times when something like this gets the hype, it's usually just that, hype. I'm a sucker for cookbooks, so I grabbed one of theirs. It's more of their story and a couple of recipes sprinkled through out. What I was most curious about was the thickness of their cookies. It's a skill to be able to keep the outside of the cookie at just the right about of crunch in order to cook the middle. Most people overcook the outside to make sure the inside is cooked or vice versa where the outside is perfect and the inside is undercooked. Levain got it right. It wasn't dry. It wasn't undercooked. Just right. I'm not sure if their flavors rotate but that day I bought choc chip walnut, double choc chip, lemon, caramel coconut. My favorites were choc chip walnut & caramel cookie. Which is a shocker because I'm not really a fan of chocolate chips and I never reach for caramel as my first option. The flavors were balanced. Not one flavoring overpowering the other. Nice storefront on Larchmont Blvd! Parking is tricky, so keep that in mind. The interior is very spacious, well decorated, and gives you a clear view of the goods on display and a view of the back where the magic happens. The service here has always been very friendly every time I've gone which adds to the experience. They serve a nice variety of pastries that are all very high quality. Their chocolate chip walnut & rocky road cookies are to DIE FOR, especially when warmed up!! I'd recommend their muffins as well if you want to switch things up. My only gripe would be that their ice cream sandwiches look amazing at first, but fall apart the second you try to take a bite. The euphoria of eating a well constructed ice cream sandwich is unmatched, so I'd be curious if they could improve upon how they serve them to enhance the experience. Their cookies are thicker towards the center and very soft with easy to break apart cookie and chocolate parts. The ube ice cream was a nice new option that was pleasant, not overly sweet or synthetic. The vanilla ice cream was the clearest indicator of how creamy their ice cream was, rich and devoid of any bad notes. The staff member actually said she was about to offer, but I beat her to it! They might not always offer, especially when busy, but it really makes a difference. I also recommend bringing a bottle of milk, as the cookies are very sweet, and a cold glass of milk is perfect. I ordered the new carrot cake cookie, lemon cookie, coconut caramel cookie and double chocolate. The carrot cake cookie and coconut caramel cookie were more scones than cookies - they were so dry and crumbly. The lemon cookie was slightly more moist but tasted like bland dough. The double chocolate wasn't as bad but not great. Levain cookies should be crunchy on the outside but gooey on the inside.
