Oakobing has been on my LA bookmarks for several years, and this year I finally made it! Unfortunately, my experience was embarrassed disappointment. Mainly, I'm a fan of naturally made fresh fruit shaved ice, and Oakobing doesn't satisfy that requirement. Additionally, I prefer less sweet desserts, and this taste also registered at an above average level, even without the condensed milk. It was like artificial sweetener and dye already integrated into the ice block. The people saying it's not that sweet are accustomed to LA tastebuds, I guess. Back in NorCal, our desserts are definitely not as sweet as LA desserts, as well as boba, I've experienced. Yes, the snow is delicate and soft, I'll give it that. But those artificial syrups, dyes, and sweeteners are almost inedible to me. That, and the fruits weren't near ripe. In fact, the fruits were pre-frozen, which is not a good thing. I thought I was imagining things, but the second one I tried also exhibited the artificiality despite being a matcha base (how does that even happen?). I felt bad because the service was very nice, but I struggled eating it because I disliked the taste; I just didn't want to waste food and effort. We did metered street parking, which didn't seem to be as bad to obtain as it could have been around this area.There are some chain bingsoo places in other parts of LA that I much preferred over Oakobing. My bar for shaved ice is Island Vintage Shave Ice in Hawaii, and MandRo Teahouse in NorCal by the way.
This place was soooo busy but it was a Friday night. But after tasting my Mango Melon Shaved Ice I understood the hype. It was fresh, refreshing, and delicious. Sweet but not too sweet (which is the best compliment for Asian desserts). Seating was a challenge with it being busy but we found a separate back room area and lucked out. They also have onsite parking behind the shop.
8.5/10 Got the mango bingsu. Really delicious and the perfect dessert after dinner. Great mango flavor and the condensed milk on the side is always a great touch. I'd definitely come back to try other flavors.
The very first time I had Korean-style shaved ice, Bingsu was in Shin-Ookubo, Japan 2 years ago. I loved it so much and had been wanting to have it again. And if you're in LA, you can! My son recommended Oakobing and my wish was finally granted! It was pretty late at night and we didn't think we could handle the regular size so the three of us shared two small ones. We ordered the Mango Melon and the Injeolmi. I was a little disappointed with the Mango Melon. I really couldn't taste much mango, and unfortunately, the melon balls weren't quite ripe so they weren't sweet at all. Overall, it was lacking both flavor and sweetness. I enjoyed the Injeolmi much more! Both came with a side of milk drizzle. I believe it was condensed milk, but it was much thinner than regular condensed milk. I actually could have used a little more of it! Even though it was late at night, the place was still very busy. If we get a chance to go back, I'd definitely like to try some of their other flavors!
Love it here! After a late dinner, we always somehow find ourselves at Oakobing It's basically the Asian version of a raspado, but taken to another level! The shaved ice comes in so many delicious flavors, and there are so many fun ways to mix it up with condensed milk, caramel, fresh fruit, and all kinds of toppings. It's light, refreshing, sweet, and perfect when you want dessert without something super heavy. Definitely one of our favorite late-night dessert spots!
This was a great shaved ice spot, although the interior of the dessert spot was a bit worn down, humid, and smelled funny. You order digitally and wait for the worker to call your name. We ordered the melon shaved ice and the yak-gwa special. I liked the special as it contained mochi and the shaved ice was nice and milky. The melon shaved ice was also fruity and refreshing. It was interesting that it came with evaporated milk as I normally have shaved ice with condensed milk, but it made sense as the shaved ice was already quite sweet. Was definitely worth a try - hope they figure out the ventilation as it was quite stuffy in there.
The fans or the AC weren't on when we came by one evening. There was a lot of people that were inside, but we were able to lineup. The line didn't take too long. You can order at the kiosk and there are two kiosks working at a time. Despite how long the wait was to order, I feel like the staff were very efficient and made our bingsoo orders very quickly! We ate from the strawberry bingsoo and the mango bingsoo and dined inside. The matcha latte was very strong matcha-flavored & had a good anount of shaved ice ontop as well. Once you get the bingsoo, the feeling of the heat goes away. I am in love with this dessert because it is perfect for the summer nights and they do not taste overly sweet. Eating bingsoo feels refreshing! This is a good spot. A lot of people come here and hang out. There is also a back area hallway that leads into more tables but there was stuffy air in there. Overall, it was great, but the hot air made us uncomfortable to stay inside. I wish they had working AC for better comfort. Everyone finishes quick and leaves.
So glad I got to try this place today. They open at 1pm and we got there just as it opened. No one in line on a Monday Afternoon. It's really good that they have small and large sizes to choose from. I ordered the single size which is perfect. The mango melon is very refreshing and just perfect.
Came here after having KBBQ and wanted something light and refreshing for dessert! We came around 7PM and there was a short line but it moved fast. The inside can get pretty stuffy but there's some extra seating all the way in the back! For a group of 6, we got two regular sized orders to share. I really loved the Injeonmi flavor! You could really taste the soybean powder and the mochi paired so well with it. The condensed milk was also the perfect sweetness to add to the ice which wasn't that sweet. Unfortunately I didn't love the mango as much. I had high expectations but the mango ice tasted a little artificial and was too sweet. The fresh mango pieces were good though! Overall I thought it was a solid dessert spot but nothing really stood out.
This is still my favorite bingsu cafe and I will continue to come by when I'm in the area! They have plenty of seating snd their bingsu is delicious. My favorite flavors are their melon and mango. This time we decided to try the strawberry matcha and it was good too! Perfect for the summer and service is always quick and friendly :) There's a parking garage so parking is not bad at all!

The melon balls melt easy in your mouth and the mango shavings add a nice texture. I really like how the shaved ice comes in an actual melon. It also came with this milk/cream that you can pour on top which makes it really creamy. I love how overall the dessert isn't too sweet and it's very refreshing. In terms of portions, the large shaved ice is really huge. It's good for 2-4 people. They also have mini sizes available if you're solo or just don't want to share lol. Ordering here is really easy. They have two kiosks in the front where you can order from and pick up when it's ready. They have a decent amount of available seating, however it does tend to get packed pretty quickly. Luckily we were able to grab a table. I'll definitely be back to try more flavors. Try it out if you like. :)
After a delicious lunch, my niece and I were on a mission for desserts. This location of Oakobing is in Koreatown was within walking distance so we decided to check it out. For those driving here, we did notice it was connected to small parking structure. Upon entering the front, there were 2 kiosks. We had no interaction with staff. There was no customization with the selections and there was no one to ask. For instance the mango shaved snow came with the melon. I wanted the strawberry shaved snow with the melon balls but they didn't have that option. When you order additional toppings, they leave it on the side. Not visually appealing at all. My niece and I shared the Strawberry Shaved Ice ($18.99) and added Mochi ($2.50) and Melon Balls ($4.25). After you order from the kiosk, you seat yourself and they'll call your number when your order ready. I really like their shaved ice here because the ice is creamy and flavored before they shave it so it's extra flavorful and creamy. It's just really expensive for what it is and especially pricey when you want additional ingredients. Most other shaved ice businesses will allow multiple ingredients for a portion of the cost. One thing that was weird is how it came in a plate instead of a bowl shaped container. Eat quick and make sure it doesn't tip over. I'm so torn because I like the product after the addition of more toppings, but I'm not sure it's worth the price. Also no staff interaction and lacking customization makes my experience as a customer frustrating and limited. Not sure if I would come back.
Sooo good and portions are huge. My boyfriend and i made the mistake of getting one small and one large--DO NOT BE FOOLED, a large is MORE than enough for two people lol The only thing that kinda sucks is that for both the small and the large, they each get the same amount of sweetened milk to pour over the top. I feel like the large should get a bigger portion but idk maybe that's just me. It also sucks because if you want more of the milk topping you have to pay extra, sooo :/ Otherwise, I loved it and I'll definitely be back to try the other flavors!
We here for dessert after dinner with a group of friends. The set up is a simple cafe with more seating inside and a few tables set up outside. They have some self service stands to order which I always enjoy so I can scroll through photos of the options. We decided to get the single servings of Injeolmi, mango melon, and strawberry. Our group of six was split evenly when picking our favorites! Injeolmi: has a milk shaved ice base topped with mochi and topped w roasted soybean powder. This one's really good with a nice nutty flavor without it being overpowering like a classic peanut butter Strawberry: straightforward strawberry base topped w strawberries. The base is creamy and the tartness from the strawberries rounds it all out. Mango melon: mango shaved ice base with melon balls. Lowkey the melons were a little hard to eat for their size and also they were superrr cold so it made it hard to chew but loved the flavor combo All of them come with condensed milk for you to drizzle over and it's nice that it comes separately so you can adjust your sweetness level read more

This place is soooooo good!! Well that's IF YOU love shaved ice. And when I say shaved ice I mean shaved ice cream.... Cuz that's what this feels like. This is not your normal shaved ice that is like the teeny tiny crushed ice .. this is literally a block of frozen ice cream/sorbet that looks like very very thin sheets that totally melt in your!! Sooooo yummy!!! The place is teeny tiny and there is street parking or a parking lot in the back that is $5 or $5.50 is your use Google pay or apple pay. They also seem to have taken over the back part of the building so that they have a second dining area BUT that area is WARM! So you might find it nice if you are cold BUT if you run warm like me... It's too warm. They also have seating outside which was very nice. The service is kinda whatever as you order from a kiosk and they they call your number and you pick up your order so you don't really have much interaction with the staff. So I can't say much about service. The place was clean which was nice and much appreciated BUT be warned that it might be very very crowded. Overall, I give this a solid 4 stars as the shaved ice was good. The service is weird as you really don't interact the staff at all. read more

I LOVED THE OREO TIRAMISU SHAVED ICE. Such a good combination with the coffee and tiramisu with the bingsoo and oreo chunks. The mango melon was huge and came inside a melon bowl! My group of 5 ordered a share size and single size bingsoo as a pre-dinner dessert treat. read more
Was in there area the other night for dinner and, afterwards, the ladies wanted dessert, and Oakobing was like a block away, so we walked over to give it a try. It was busy, obviously on a weekend, but there were kiosks to place your orders and the desserts came out fast enough given the amount of people there. I'd say, if it is busy, have someone find a table while the other orders so you have somewhere to sit. We tried three different shredded ice desserts, all single size: Matcha, Strawberry and Mango. For a single serving, they are so pretty big. If you get the large one, FYI, it is huge and should be shared by multiple people. The matcha was everyone's favorite. Great matcha flavor of you're in to matcha. The strawberry and mango were more of a her down, having very muted strawberry and mango flavored. Between the two, however, the mango was probably the better one. Just a little more flavorful. It was nice having the fresh fruit on each one though. Overall, a nice shaved ice spot in Ktown serving up a variety of shaved ice desserts. If you like matcha, get the matcha one for sure. As for the strawberry and mango, they're ok but you can definitely get better, more flavorful, fruit desserts elsewhere. read more

Came for a nice cool treat to beat the heat wave from the El Niño hurricane. It was sooo humid though! Ughhh... parking was pretty easy. There is parking garage when you go down the alley and a lot of open spaces. But we went on a weekday around 2 in the afternoon. I got the small size mango melon shaved ice. It was pretty decent sized. And I added extra melons and rice cake topping options. It was a good thing I ordered the extra melons though because they don't give a lot of it originally. But it was a lot of shaved mango ice and comes with condensed milk on the side so you can choose how much to pour over. It's very sweet so I just dipped my melons in that and scooped out shaved ice separately. Make sure to try before pouring it all on top. And add according to taste preference. Overall pretty good. The melon balls were really cold like they just took it out of the freezer so it was perfect for the hot weather. The shaved ice was decent. But they did give a lot. Small size was plenty big enough for 2 people! Otherwise it would've been a full on meal lol! The menu is through a digital screen. And you have to ring the bell because all the staff are in the kitchen. I didn't understand some of the menu. Like "the must have" toppings was extra $3. Or "mango shave ice set". But they were quick coming out to answer my q's. "Must have" is condense milk and injeolmi powder. "Set" means having 2 drinks with the shaved ice. But it would've been good if they had that included already on the menu. And also I wished they had the A/C on a little more because it was sooo hot and humid that day! But I guess it's to save money? I hope the employees were alright though since it was quite warm in the dining area. But for the price and the amount they give and the service it's all pretty average. At least I got some frozen melon balls that I was craving to beat the heat. Because this is the only place that does it. read more
We came here on Memorial Day, about 15 minutes after they opened for the day and it was already packed! Crazy! We found metered parking directly across from Oakobing and walked over. I think there is parking behind the shops through the alley. I didn't know any specifics since I didn't park there. As we walked in the front doors, I got in line while hubby saved us a table. If you go out the back door, there is another room with more seating. I waited for my turn at the kiosk... you place the order yourself. Be sure to enter your phone number to earn loyalty points. I felt bad for the one lady making all the orders by herself. She was working as quickly as she could! I watched her for a little bit. She changed gloves often, keeping the ingredients separated. It wasn't long before I was taking my order to the table. I ordered two individual size bingsoos. One would have been ample for us to share. Each of them cost $8.50 and I got a side of Mochi for $2.25. This was some of the freshest Mochi topping I've had! Each piece was so super soft, even softer than marshmallows! They came in a condiment container so we could add them as we desired. Hubby's bingsoo was the Mango Melon and mine was the Mango. The shaved ice used was Mango for both. His had melon (Honeydew) balls and mine had mango chunks. This wasn't the best bingsoo I've had, but it was refreshing and made for a nice dessert! I thought I had been here before and I was right! It was Homibing and since my visit in 2017, it has become Oakobing. I'm glad we got to come check it out! The shaved ice menu still looks the same, except for the updated prices! read more

One of the best desserts in LA. Light and refreshing, with good portions. A single can definitely feed two people! I get the injeolmi every time. Tastes like peanut butter to me but my cousin says coffee. -1 Star because the wifi was down and you had to order through door dash. Would have been more convenient to have Square payment in store. Our order still came out quickly. Seating is decent but this place gets packed in the evenings! read more
Yes yes yes! I think I found my new favorite dessert spot for the summer! These Korean shaved ice are where it's at! They are perfectly light, and sweet and packed with flavor! You don't feel like you're eating shaved ice! You feel like you're eating a fluffy cloud! When you walk in, you are greeted by kiosks where you place your order. You don't have much interaction with the staff other than than they calling out your number when your order is ready Only downside is they were playing music way too loud! The store itself had maybe 1-2 other parties inside... but the music was too loud we practically had to yell at each other to MAYBE hear the person right next to us. I definitely was not a fan of that vibe. The dessert itself though was phenomenal read more

The Oreo Tiramisu Shaved Ice at Ooakabing is SO tasty! The combination of creamy tiramisu, Oreo, and fluffy shaved ice is absolutely delicious, and the portion is a good size--definitely enough to share or enjoy on your own. The only downside is that the place can get crowded pretty quickly, and finding a seat can be difficult during busy times. But the dessert is definitely worth trying if you're in the area! read more
This was good! It definitely wasn't my favorite Bingsu in Ktown, BUT it is such a great deal for the price. The service was good, and there was inside and outside seating. We went on a Saturday night and it was packed - but we were able to wait a little and find seating! This is great if you're coming with a group and want to share. They also have smaller sizes too for two people. read more
Cute Korean shaved ice cafe! There's lots of options to choose from. It was super busy when we arrived. Parking is tough with the large amounts of people. Seating was completely full and spills over to an extra room they have for seating. The waiting line was out the door for the two ordering kiosks. The Injeolmi Shaved Ice was my favorite. It is a creamy milk flavor. Ice was finely shaved and melted in the mouth nicely. Mochi pieces gave it extra texture. Dirty green tea oreo shaved ice has a shot of coffee on the side to drizzle on. The green tea isn't really a strong taste and the ice just makes it more watery. Coffee drizzled on just made the dessert a little more bitter. Overall an okay place for shaved ice. I'll probably only order the injeolmi shaved ice next time! read more

We visited Oakobing for dessert after dining at Hangari Kalguksu nearby just before for lunch. Although it was just down the street, we had to pay again for parking since we weren't allowed to leave the respective lots without paying extra. $5 parking just to grab dessert was a bit of a sting but for LA it's to be expected. The place was somewhat small but wasn't really busy for a Saturday afternoon, and we noticed they had some spacious auxiliary seating areas specifically for Oakobing across the hall. At first glance, the prices seemed sort of high for shaved ice, so we opted for sharing 2 of the smallest personal sizes ($8.5 each). It turns out that this size was plenty. I'm not sure how big the regular bowls are, but I think especially after a meal the personal size is plenty for a satisfying dessert for 2 people. I'm assuming part of the large price difference in sizes comes down to the large amount of fresh fruit that comes on their regular bowls. Still, we very much enjoyed our bowls. The ice is shaved almost impossibly thin, and rather than melting into a pool of water almost turns into a sorbet/ice cream like texture, which is very satisfying to eat. I enjoyed how their condensed milk topping was diluted to form a lighter cream that was more sauce-like than think and drizzle-like. It all lended to making the dessert enjoyably light. I would definitely drop by again, especially if we could avoid the parking costs. read more
I had really high hopes for this place considering it was recommended by a friend and the positive reviews, but we were pretty disappointed. We ordered the mango bingsoo with a side of the melon balls. I like the texture of the snow, but the flavor left much to be desired. It has an artificial mango taste that isn't very pleasant. The mangos were also not fresh... tasted like the frozen mangos you get at the freezer section of the grocery store. I wish it was also in a bowl, since it's pretty messy eating it on the plate. Every time I tried to scoop some snow, some would fall onto the tray since the plate is so small. The melon balls were fine, slightly sweet but not super ripe. I like that you can order through a kiosk and that there's pictures of what you are ordering. The snow came out reasonably quickly considering there was only one person working. The interior has plenty of tables for you to sit down and enjoy your desserts. We parked nearby for lunch and walked over, but parking seems pretty limited/difficult (standard for LA though I guess, lol). read more
My go to shaved ice dessert spot. Got the matcha one this time, which comes with red bean and mochi. It wasn't too sweet and was really light, which I liked because it doesn't make me feel too guilty having a sweet treat. ive also had the strawberry one and mango melon in the past and it is so refreshing. Parking can be a little rough since it's mainly street parking, but they do have valet in the back. Ordering is super easy since it's all self service kiosks. There's plenty of seating, but it does get really packed at night. Overall, always a solid spot and I'd definitely keep coming back! read more
Oakobing is such a refreshing treat and a must have when in LA! Not the typical shaved ice with syrup, their shaved ice is full of flavor (think of melona icecream). And to top it off, they give a small cup of condensed milk to add on and make it creamier. The inside is clean with a good amount of tables even further inside. Order on the self-kiosk then find a seat and wait for them to text you when your order is ready! The service has always been good and love that they have monthly new flavors, but was hoping they would have black sesame regularly. There is a parking structure right across for $5 or you can find street parking. There is limited seating inside/outside so I would recommend having a friend find a table while you order. We tried their strawberry and melon shaved ice and both were delicious. The melon balls were super cute and juicy. Although the last time we went again, the balls were not placed with as much love as the first time (not as aesthetically pleasing) :( but still good! They also provide small sharing cups which is perfect for large groups. 2 large size oakobings were perfect for 6 people. I would def recommend stopping by for a nice treat to cool off to and am excited for more of their flavors.. maybe jackfruit or durian next!! read more
After dinner nearby, three of us stopped by Oakobing for bingsoo. The way they do shaved ice here is really interesting. The take a block of flavored ice and use a machine to shave it into little sheet-like pieces before finishing it with various toppings and drizzles. SINGLE SIZE BINGSU: GREEN TEA While the presentation was beautiful, it was pretty hard to eat. We made a mess on our trays every time we tried to get a spoonful. The green tea flavor was very strong, but the mochi was hard and not the soft, chewy ones I expected. It was fine, but I'd want to try something else next time. The single size was good to share with others if you're not looking to eat too much. Overall, I wasn't as impressed with Oakobing as I had hoped after all the hype I've heard about it. read more
I went on a Wednesday night around 7:30 and it was relatively empty. It was pretty packed by the time we left though so I would expect a wait if you're going a little later at night. We ordered at the kiosk and got our food super quick. We also got lucky with street parking nearby which was free after 6pm I think Pineapple: 4/5 this is a special flavor that I think is only available in April. I liked it but kinda wished it was a little more sour. Note: I like Oakobing a lot in general bc their bingsu is a creamier than other places but this was $20 so def not something I would get often. It was big enough that my friend and I were pretty full and didn't wanna finish it so it probably is a good amount for 3-4 people read more
OK, so this place was good, don't get me wrong. But I was expecting a little bit more. I know this is one of the top places in Koreatown, but I feel like I've had slightly better once elsewhere. The flavor of the snow I got was good, but it didn't allow me very much. I would have liked maybe more condensed milk on the side, the container they give is kind of small, but I probably could've asked for more. Oakobing is definitely one of my favorite dessert spots in Ktown! I stopped by with some friends on a Saturday night and it was packed. You order at the self service kiosks. I appreciate how they have smaller single bingsu as well as the full sized options. We got the mango melon full sized shaved ice, which comes in a half melon bowl with melon balls - it was so refreshing and perfect for sharing. That said, it does get very crowded on weekend evenings and finding a table was a bit of a challenge. They have indoor as well as limited outdoor tables. Tables weren't really cleaned as frequently, likely as the staff were simply so busy. Parking can be tricky especially on busy weekend evenings. read more
I came with four friends on a Saturday evening for a pre-dinner dessert. It was quite crowded when we arrived, but there was ample seating. The interior was very clean and welcoming. I tried the strawberry shave ice and mango shave ice. They were both delicious and creamy. I personally liked the strawberry shave ice the best as it was sweeter. Overall, I had a great time and will be back for more! read more

it is actually pretty awesome!! they put them in these little paper cups and have ice packs in the packaging so they are still frozen when they arrive.
