Soft serve done well- the line may look long but the wait is brief. You enter and take a left hand turn at the counter to stand in line. There are two registers, clearly marked as cash only or cash/card. Your flavor combos are clearly shown, however: they do not give samples. You must determine what flavor you want by inference and preference! Today they had: cookies and cream, strawberry, ube, milk, matcha, and cherries jubilee. Some flavors you can swirl, which is the method by which you obtain two soft serve flavors in a serving. The spongy fish-shaped cups come with a filling of your choice: Nutella, black sesame, custard or red bean. You place your order and proceed to the far corner and await your name being called so you can select your topping. Enjoy!
I love somisomi! Sad to see the Santa Anita mall location gone but happy to have this location within the vicinity. I always get the custard taiyaki. Any flavor you get of their soft serve, you will not be disappointed. Milk is my go-to, will have to pass on their cookies n cream because the flavor was mild.
Somisomi hits the spot if you're craving something sweet. There's always a line but it moves pretty quickly and it also ensures your Aboong or Taiyaki comes out fresh and piping hot. My boyfriend tried the vanilla soft serve with Nutella filled Aboong. The warm fish against the cold ice cream created a great mix of textures and flavours, but once the fish is gone the ice cream itself is just ok. The taiyaki, in my humble opinion, are the winners. The Oreo taiyaki was absolutely delicious! It came out super fresh, they filled both the body AND tail with Oreo so every bite had a great ratio of chewy fish and filling. This location always fills their Taiyaki evenly which I appreciate, it's much better than the ones I've tried in Sawtelle. It's really affordable too, so definitely come try it.

Yesterday Somisomi was showcasing a collab exclusive flavor 8-bit boysenberry, only available from April 18 to April 26. The line was longer than I've ever seen it wrapping around outside. I saw so many young people in cosplay, possibly characters for an anime I'm not familiar with. Look at the photos and see if you recognize it. A character might be called Silverwolf? Anyway, I was so happy to see Somisomi so busy. My friend and I stayed in line for 20 minutes before we were able to place our order, we had only 10 minutes to spare before our tickets at the Aratani Theatre. We wanted to have the milk and 8-bit boysenberry swirl soft serve in a cup. Unfortunately, we realized that we had to decide between possibly not being led into our reserved seat at the theater or missing out on this delicious dessert. It was just a matter of not realizing how long it would take. I don't blame Somisomi because they had a huge number of ahbong to make fresh, and of course, there was no way to cut in line We ended up telling the lovely staff that we had to leave, and to please give our orders under "Coco" to someone for free so it wouldn't be wasted. I'm sure it would've been tart and delicious!! The staff were working hard and very patient. They sometimes had to call names three times to get a response for adding toppings. If you go there and it's crowded, please be patient and also please be ready to go up to claim your order right away for the sake of the waiting hungry crowd ;)!
Visited Somisomi today and one man was doing everything. Taking orders, making desserts and keep moving things. You could tell he had a solid system down! We ordered matcha ice cream as well as 2 Nutella fish. Both were so delicious. They make the fish fresh for you. Eating it fresh the dough almost had a mochi texture.
Delicious and satisfying sweet treat! I visited Somisomi after having dinner in the area and had a good experience; I loved my ice cream and my taiyaki. This location is quite busy and has a lively atmosphere with limited indoor and outdoor seating. The line moves pretty quickly in my experience. Orders are placed on an iPad, and your name is called out when it's ready. The only issue I had was a missing item, but the staff were friendly and quickly rectified this when it was brought to their attention. I believe their flavors change pretty frequently, but I always enjoy the Matcha and Black Sesame swirl.
You could never go wrong with somisomi after a long day after work. The service is a quick kiosk to type your order in or another line to wait for a cashier to take your order. A bit confusing but you do get the hang of it quick. The cookies n cream with Nutella filling and fruity pebbles is hands down the best flavor. (The only one I always get, hehe). But it's a good place to take someone after walking around the plaza and have a quick chat with friends or a date

Also tried the Oreo filling and next time I'll ask for extra filling. I felt like the filling was lacking in quantity but that's just my personal preference. The matcha milk was a bit complicated because I had to shake the bottle and the cap was leaking, so most of the strawberries sat at the bottom. Staff is friendly and hard working.

I tried the matcha and ube flavors already so wanted to try the classic: oreo (cookies and cream) The soft serve was super tasty and felt kind of gourmet. You are able to add whatever toppings with no additional cost which was awesome. I highly recommend! The only caveats to note are that eating this gets messyyyy so make sure to take some hand wipes and that this location in particular is very overwhelming. There's not a lot of seating and there's always a line. I'm excited for the Glendale location at the Americana to open! ^-^
I love somi somi The matcha is super creamy and sweet~ I like that it's a fair portion given the price. There's sometimes a bit of a wait but the line moves quickly. I also like that I can pick toppings.

Across the street from Japanese village. Great dessert store. I was looking for some food taiyaki. And they got great flavor to choose from. We end up getting 5 for $9.95 with red beans, Nutella, custard, black sesame. All of them was made fresh in front of our eyes. And tastes super yummy!! Delicious! So sad all the locations closer to me closed. But so glad this location is still around. Lactose free and delicious pastry in the shape of a fish! Our go to always entails Nutella. Can't go wrong with Nutella. Service is always good and fast too. read more
Went to SomiSomi last night at 8:30 and there was a line outside the shop but it went very quickly. The staff were amazing. The girl who took our order gave great suggestions and was very efficient. Everyone was a very clear communicator which I really appreciate. The interior was simple but had plenty of space for people to wait. We got the matcha soft serve & cookies n cream soft serve with Nutella taiyaki. Both were delicious! Really impressed that the quality of SomiSomi is the same across locations. read more

I was in town from San Diego with a group of students and we decided to stop at Somisomi on a very hot Friday afternoon. The shop is right in Japantown and is on a bustling and fun street. The folks working the counter were efficient, but not as friendly as I would have liked. I ordered a matcha soft serve with Biscoff crumbles and an Ah-boong (filled with custard) also known as a taiyaki in Japan. Standing outside on the sidewalk, I ate my taiyaki first and then by the time I started to eat my soft serve, it was a soupy mess. Oh well - 90 plus degrees will do that. The soft serve was delicious and the matcha flavor was light and sweet with no hint of bitterness. The taiyaki was fresh and crisp, although there was not much custard inside of it. There are standing tables and a few tables inside, but there was not enough seating inside for all of us... After completely covering myself in matcha ice cream, I wanted to wash my hands, but Somisomi does not have a bathroom customers can use which was disappointing. Overall, I enjoyed this sweet treat, and I'll be back to visit a Somisomi in SD or Temecula again soon. read more

My favorite SOMISOMI in SoCal. No one can beat the incredible service and quality of Little Tokyo's SomiSomi. The amount of people that walk in here on a weekend is incredible and without fail I get my Ah boong in less than 7 mins! I tried the Cookies n' Cream w/ Dalgona during this visit and my eyes rolled. It was DELICIOUS. If you love Taiyaki (fish-shaped, waffle adjacent pastries with filling) and ice cream, this is for you! Try filling your Taiyaki with Nutella! The staff are always super polite and thoughtful. I was helped by a very professional staff member who ensured I had all of my toppings and provided a small cookie too! She was younger and calling out names. Wish I could've got her name, because she went above and beyond! SomiSomi is a classic and has become a tradition for me. It's a great place to hang out, enjoy, and view the Little Tokyo happenings. read more

I originally stopped here because the pink ice cream looked too cute to ignore, but it actually ended up tasting really good too. It was creamy, flavorful, and not overwhelmingly sugary, which I appreciated. The fish-shaped pastries with filling were honestly my favorite part though. They were warm and freshly made with a really nice texture, especially paired with the cold ice cream. It felt like a fun combination without being gimmicky. The shop itself has a cute and cozy atmosphere that makes the experience even more enjoyable. I went to Somisomi with some friends to get Taiyaki. The service was really good the line was moving fast and the food came out pretty quick. They also have great lighting and theres plenty of seating. We gotten four different types of Taiyaki Custer,Oreo Nutella, sesame. One of the best soft serve ice creams available. Not overly sweet, smooth, pillowy, and in several desirable flavors. Add that to a filled Taikyaki (fish shaped pastry) and it's a perfect treat. My go to is a matcha soft serve in a custard filled Taikyaki. The matcha has good flavor and not too sweet. The ube/matcha combo is a good choice, but IMO the ube over powers the matcha flavor. My son tried a seasonal flavor: dulce de leche. He loved it paired with his nutella filled Taikyaki. Kiosks to the side of the shop make ordering fast and simple and allows for the employees behind the counter to focus on creating orders. Customer service is friendly and helpful. read more
I haven't had Somi Somi in years. They took over the frozen yogurt spot (I think it was Pinkberry before). Its pretty solid and a good choice if you are in Little Tokyo. I do prefer Bumsan Organic Milk Bar just down the street but this place is the most popular option. read more

First time at this location, coming on a Sunday afternoon: got some delicious ice cream to share for a great value. After eating a good lunch in Little Tokyo, we started to walk toward the south end but saw this shop. I was craving ice cream, so made it an easy choice to stop. I wanted to keep it less messy, so got soft serve in a cup (without the ah-boong) ube flavor ($4.50). You can add different sprinkles at the end, and I chose oreo crumbles, graham cracker, and cocoa pebbles. I thought the amount given for the price was quite generous and the toppings added a lot of nice texture. The soft serve was super smooth, and the ube flavor was just right, not too overpowering. Best soft serve for reasonable prices with a crisp takiyaki fish. Amazing soft serve flavors. We tried the seasonal dulce de leche and also the strawberry. It was hot on this day and after eating and drinking, we thought of getting some ice cream. This is located in what they call "Little Tokyo" near downtown LA. The area around them looks like you are in Japan. That's why they named it little Tokyo. There were some vendors that sells Japan themed novelty items a few steps before you enter this ice cream place. We did definitely order different flavors of their ice cream with their popular fish waffle cone. It was so good. I definitely recommend it. It was my first time here. We went around 9 PM and there were still a lot of people in line. So you better check them out when you're around the area. read more

Somi Somi Ice cream is one of the best! I usually always get a mixed flavor in a cup. My favorites are Milk, matcha and ube with oreo crumbs, matcha powder, and the strawberry. This location always has a line but it moves quickly. The only thing is that there isnt much seating and I wish they let you swirl your own flavors. read more

This place is such a fun place to get dessert! Hands down the BEST dessert that we had was the ube pistachio swirl soft serve with the matcha crème fish on top. I honestly could not stop raving about how good it was. The flavors complemented each other so well and the soft serve wasn't too sweet. It was creamy. The fish cone itself was warm, fresh, and full of creamy matcha! The flavor paired so well with the ice cream. All of the desserts/dainties also looked adorable which made it even more enjoyable for my kids and family. Service was friendly and our desserts were served quickly. I will definitely be back when I need a new fun and yummy treat! read more
