This was my first time trying Flouring Cake Shop in Chinatown, and it's honestly some of the best cake I've ever had. We tried almost all of the flavors they offered, except for pistachio, and every single one was unique and decadent. The buttercream is incredibly smooth and adds the perfect amount of moisture, making each bite really delightful. We also tried the chocolate chip cookie, which was very good. It had a crisp, slightly crunchy exterior, while the inside was soft and a little underdone--but still delicious, especially if that's the type of cookie you like. Flowering Cake Shop in Chinatown Los Angeles is such a lovely little spot. It's located in a really cute shopping plaza, which makes it a fun place to stumble upon while exploring the area. They had so many delicious looking cake options that it was hard to choose, but I went with the pistachio cake and it was amazing. It was so good it didn't even make it home. The staff was also very kind. The cashier, whose name I didn't catch, was really sweet and took the time to answer all of my questions without rushing me. I've been eyeing this place every time I go stationery shopping next door and I'm mad at myself for not going in sooner! Love everything I've tried here. Absolutely delicious cake and cookies. I got the Devil's Dark Chocolate Cake Bar and my partner got the Passion Fruit Cake Bar. Both were soooo good and the frosting was perfect and not too sweet. I'm usually not a big fan of passion fruit sweets because they tend to be too tart, but this passion fruit cake was the perfect balance of flavor. The employee working was very kind and gave us plates and forks so we could enjoy it at the tables right outside the shop. As great as it is, prices are high ($4.50-5.00 for a cookie) so I can't justify coming here more than a few times a year. If the prices were a little better, this place would be perfect! I enjoyed the ube sprinkle cookie at home and I'm so sad I didn't buy more! I hope this is a permanent fixture on the menu because I definitely need to splurge and buy more than one the next time I'm here. read more

Such a lovely cake spot. My friend got her daughter's 1st Birthday cake here and when I tried it for the first time, I was blown away by how good it was. I decided to come to the store to try out their other flavors. Parking can be tricky here as it is in Chinatown. There is metered parking in front of the store and across the street. The store itself is small, but also sold little items/candles for your pastry needs. The lady inside that helped me was super friendly and helpful. I ended up going for the Lemon/Lavender, Pistachio, and Ube Coconut. I appreciated that they sold individual slices as well as mini cakes and large cakes. It's a little on the pricier side, but the quality does it justice. My favorite is 100% the Pistachio, the top is filled with crushed pistachio bits and the frosting was perfect, not too sweet at all! The Lemon Lavender Marble was really good too. Stopped in to pick up my preorder box of truffles that were special for Mother's Day. I tried all the flavors and I loved that it was light, sweet, and small so that it was easy to share in my family. They don't eat a lot of sweets anymore so it was a great purchase for us. If you're looking for something sweeter and nuttier then the pistachio is a great choice. For those that like a more subtle taste, the lavender lemon will always be a good choice. What an absolutely beautiful cake shop. Each cake is beautifully decorated with fresh flowers. Had a slide of the PASSIONFRUIT CAKE BAR and what a marvel it was. The cake itself is spongy and light as an angel and full of flavor. The buttercream is soooooo rich and yummy and very much done properly. The CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE is delicious too. The ESPRESSO CHIP SHORTBREAD is amazing and goes very well with coffee!! The lady was so patient with me and my girls. This Chinatown based cake shop is definitely not one to overlook! It sits beside Thank You Coffee (also recommend!) and their small yet elegant shop has some of the most tasteful (both visually and tastewise) you will come across! My boss got me a cake sampler when it was my birthday and was so impressed by them that I decided to get my partner a cake for her birthday. I used their online ordering which was so convenient as you can customize your message (optional), when you would want to pick up the cake, and pay ahead. Note that parking is rather limited in this location, and I had to doublepark and quickly retrieve my cake. However, if you end up going on a less impacted day you may be able to easily find metered parking or pay at a nearby lot. The cake itself was so beautifully crafted with edible flowers. I choose a passionfruit flavor with passionfruit buttercream and a white cake. I got the smallest size, but don't let the size fool you--you can certainly get many tall slices of the cake depending on how you cut it. We were able to share this cake among 4 people and have plenty to enjoy throughout the following week. I may try the other flavors on the menu like black seasame or ube. Located in the bustling part of Chinatown you'd surely miss Flouring Cake Shop if you were whizzing down Hill Street. Tucked in a small cluster of shops, the oh so purple decor will catch your eye if you are walking by. We popped our heads in as we waited for our coffee next door. From flower adorned cakes to gorgeous pastries to custom cakes and merch on display..it was quite a task asking us to pick just one or two items to try. The storefront of Flouring Cake Shop might be small and cozy, but the cakes here are mighty. And by that, I mean mighty delicious. Nestled in the heart of Chinatown Los Angeles, this dessert shop features custom cakes, cake slices, and other various sweet treats. Parking can be a pain, but it's worth a stop here anyway. The cake slices are pretty small and around $7 per slice. But as someone who can appreciate a good slice of cake any day, it's worth the splurge for a scrumptious treat. The cakes are decorated beautifully and artistically with lovely edible flowers and have a variety of interesting flavors. I can especially appreciate the inclusion of Asian-inspired flavors which tie in nicely to its location. For my flavors, I tried Passionfruit, Ube Coconut, and Lavender Lemon. The Passionfruit was certainly my favorite (and my husband's, too, judging by how often he dug into it), followed by Ube Coconut. All of the flavors came through in both the cake and buttercream and the texture of the cake had a nice density and was moist. I'll certainly return to try more cake flavors when I'm in the area. read more

UPDATE: these were better the next day, so updating my review to 4/5 instead of 3/5. As a baker, I was SO EXCITED to try this place and ready to love it. The amazing decorating, the adorable storefront, interesting flavors... what's not to like? The cake itself, apparently. The lemon lavender was really nice actually. The woman described it as 'like earl grey' and while I don't love the tea itself, I love earl grey flavored desserts. My partner usually hates lemon desserts and actually liked this one. It was nice, but nothing to write home about. The rest was... lackluster. The strawberry was so subtle it barely tasted like strawberry, the chocolate has flavorful frosting but a mid crumb, and the passionfruit was just okay - a nice bright pop of flavor, but with oddly unsweet frosting that was probably intended to balance the whole thing out, but just took the wind out of its sails instead. The oreo was the most disappointing, and in fact one of the most disappointing baked goods I've ever tried (meaning, measuring hype and the presentation against the actual cake itself). My partner was most excited to try this flavor, but then called it flavorless and didn't even finish his piece. I agreed - I wouldn't have been able to identify it as oreo flavored in a blind taste test. These cakes are GORGEOUS and maybe we just had an off day, but this was a big miss for us. The cake texture & flavor was not my cup of tea (crumbly & vanilla-y) and there was a tad bit too much buttercream. It was denser than I expected, but the layer of passionfruit jam was amazing - I just wish there was more of it. On the other hand, the Devil's Dark Chocolate blew me away!!! Visited Flouring for the first time on the day of the grand opening. Upon arrival I couldn't help but notice and admire the huge purple balloon display. Without it, you might miss the bakery. Located off Hill St. in the historic heart of Chinatown, Flouring adds a pretty and yummy new bakery to the Chinatown cake and cookie scene that has been dominated by old school Phoenix bakery and Queens bakery. Flouring is the new brick and mortar for what had previously been a successful online business. Seeing a fresh new business move into a historical building makes me excited for what Chinatown can be in the years to come. Nearly everything at Flouring has edible flowers. The gorgeous cakes and cookies all look amazing. And while to prices for whole cakes made me do a double take, everything here is a work of art. Exerting some control, I got three items and basically devoured all in a couple of days. That way I can return and try other items. Chocolate raspberry pavlova (4/5) crispy yet chewy pavlova with a good quality chocolate and fresh raspberries. Meringue topped brownie (5/5) unexpectedly decadent, dense and rich. The light crunch of meringue with the almost rich fudge like texture was lovely. S'mores (5/5) I really liked this bar. From the toasted gooey marshmallow, rich chocolate middle and crumbly graham crust, it was all so delicious. While waiting in like, we did get samples of the sesame cake and citrus shortbread cookie. I liked the sesame cake and probably should've gotten a slice. But the cookie (albeit pretty) wasn't yummy. The Flouring shop is charming and pretty. I even got a few purple scrapers. Service was friendly and helpful. Parking is metered street. I'm glad that my friend invited me to the grand opening. I first tried Chef Heather Wong's cake at Natasha Pickowicz's bake sale held at the Far East Plaza. I remember loving the texture, whipped cream, and edible flowers--it was the perfect not-too-sweet dessert. I was happy to learn that her shop, Flouring, was just around the corner. One day, when I was doing some research at the CHSSC, I stopped by after lunch to pick up some sweet treats to take home. The charming little storefront is all purple and not only serves cake, but also pavlovas, cookies, and other desserts. I got a passion fruit cake slice (tried and true favorite) and a sesame yuzu pavlova. I am not the biggest fan of meringue unless it's on a lemon tart/pie, but was won over by Flouring's. The texture was so fluffy and delicate and meshed so well with the citrus and black sesame, which, IMO, is a feat since black sesame and yuzu can have such strong flavor profiles. Matcha cake with red bean was my fav, but the matcha could have been more prominent. Lemon lavender didn't taste like perfume, but had a good balance. I believe the last slice I had was a mixed berry one.. Buttercream wasn't like sugar, no need to scrape off extra. Drove from oc to get here, found parking on the street on a weekday. Weekend sounds more like a mission given the businesses in the area.
