I am more than pleasantly surprised at how much my wife and I enjoyed dinner at Modita. The atmosphere, food, and service were amazing. To start the night, I had the Jasper cocktail. It has a very smoky and stiff flavor. Definitely a drink FULL of body. We orders the Hamachi Roll and Bao Buns as our appetizer. I would highly recommend both for the variety of flavor and texture. As for our main courses, my wife ordered the Center Cut Sirloin and I ordered the Umami Noodles. We enjoyed ourselves and are looking forward to returning soon. read more

Stumbled upon Modita while wandering the mean streets of Yelp. It's the newest addition to the Cunningham Restaurant Group. They have an Asian inspired menu. As soon as i saw it, I was ready to go (no really, I made a reservation that same day). First, they are located in the Bottleworks Hotel, you can make a reservation on Open Table, which I highly recommend because I can see them filling up quickly. They've got the aesthetics down-dark decor with good lighting (so you can get your pictures). The menu is broken up into Apps, Dim Sum, Sushi, Rice, Noodles, and Grill. Everything we had was great. If you want a little variety, or you're in a group, I'd suggest trying things from different sections of the menu. We tried the bao buns, grilled pork belly with a miso glaze (I could eat this everyday); Hamachi, this was kind of a play on nigiri, it's thick piece of yellowtail on top of a bed of rice with maybe a cilantro sauce on top; Spicy Tuna Tartare sushi; Miso Salmon, and the Japanese Wagyu. Everyone ordered the same drink- Tokyo Exchange Rate. It's a mix of Japanese and American whiskeys balanced out with fruit juices. Like I said, everything was delicious. I would, however, skip the wagyu. It's definitely not the star of their menu, but comes with a $50 price tag. There's an American wagyu on the menu, which is what we originally ordered. It took about 20minutes for our server to come back and tell us they'd just sold the last one. They also weren't willing to sub. They're new, you can tell there are still some kinks to work out. Those weren't big enough to take away a star, I was still really happy with the experience as a whole. read more

Cunningham has done it again with Modita! It is has quickly become one of my favorite restaurants in Indy. Who doesn't love a good Asian fusion restaurant. The atmosphere is fantastic, super cozy and swanky. I have tried basically everything on the menu and it's all been tasty. My recommendations for a perfect dinner would be the shrimp shumai to start with the miso salad. Throw in the wagyu nigiri too. The mapu tofu will never let you down and maybe get a side of the shishito papers. The yuzu bar is a nice finisher, but if they ever bring back the Coca-Cola cake... get that. read more

If you like good cocktails, this is a must to add to your Indy list! The cocktails are phenomenal and the apps are great! I'm not the biggest fan of their sushi but I highly recommend the bao buns and Korean corn dogs (pictured). read more

I've been wanting to try this place for a while, so I'm glad I was able to stop in! Early in the evening you probably don't need reservations, but I did have them and was sat right away. I didn't snap a photo of the appetizers but I did my meal and dessert! I had the tamarind noodles which was so good! Honestly the noodles themselves were tasty but the shrimp was a bonus (although they were slightly over cooked). The dessert and drinks were great too. Perfect service, my water cup was never empty! Parking is easy either on the street or in the parking lots nearby Bottleworks for $5 less than 3hours. read more

Get the dang buns. Holy moly - we ordered plates to share and we liked the buns so much that we got a second order to split! I would definitely get the buns and the soup dumplings again. I am not a huge egg roll fan usually but these were very tasty! The Bahn Mi Terrine was good but I will save any foie gras entrees for if we ever get to return to France. The cocktails were both tasty and I was glad that I enjoyed mine. So there are some great wins here! My husband and I split all these plates and the negative was were still were feeling a bit hungry - we both missed lunch before - but after we ordered another order of buns to split we were then too full after our half. For me the only negative is really bracing yourself for an expensive dinner. You shouldn't be blindsided that this will be expensive but I would have been frustrated to have walked away still feeling hungry, some of these plates wouldn't fill you up if you don't order the very filling ones. The buns will help save you from feeling hungry - so just get the dang buns. Also our server, Aaron was AWESOME! read more

If servers wearing masks during a respiratory droplet-spread pandemic matters to you, go elsewhere. I was pretty stunned that nobody was wearing masks; wanted to leave but the rest of my party did not, and thankfully I'm vaccinated. To the food: Bitter alibi cocktail was lacking all the tastes described and was mostly a syrupy orange concoction (no ginger, no bitter, no anise that I could detect). Soup dumplings were to die for: chewy dough, squirt of broth inside, perfect chili oil. Chicken in the orange chicken and broccoli had the most delicate breading I've ever experienced. Lovely. But we won't be back until after the pandemic, if it ever ends. read more

I've been looking forward to Modita's opening for months especially because I was planning to try it out on my birthday. I made a reservation for a party of four via open table and even called in a few days prior to confirm over the phone. When my party arrived last night, the blonde hostess looked like she was having trouble finding my reservation and asked me if we were joining a table. I told her I didn't know what she meant by that and showed her my email confirmation on my phone. She then fumbled around on her tablet again, asked for my last name, and then finally asked me if we would like to be seated at the bar because then we would be able to be seated right away. Confused, I replied "No, do you not have our reservation? I don't think that's how reservations work." And she snapped back at me saying "I was just asking. It's going to be a few minutes before a table opens up" (There were two open tables of four literally to the left of us). Now I don't know if I've been using the reservation system wrong my entire life, but I don't book two weeks in advance just for my party to sit at a bar?? I thought the hostess was incredibly rude and I will chock it up to inexperience. Things that were notable of our evening were the appetizers. We ordered the hamachi sushi, bao buns, and soup dumplings which were all fantastic. So naturally we were looking forward to our entrees. The wagyu strip loin was tender and cooked well. Bison short rib was also worth recommending. But what really killed my evening were the kimchi fried rice and insanity lo mein. We asked for the insanity lo mein to be extra spicy, and the chef delivered. Loved the heat. However, there really was no other flavor than salt in the dish. I wish there was more balance to the dish, but none of us could take another bite. The kimchi fried rice also fell flat for us. Being Korean, kimchi fried rice is a staple comfort food for me. And kimchi 101 is that you never cook with unripened kimchi. You can eat it as a banchan (side dish) fresh, unripened and cold, but if you ever cook with it to make kimchi fried rice or kimchi stew, you have to let it go through the fermentation process and let it get really sour and ripe. We explained this to the server and the manager and they were extremely open and grateful for the feedback to take to the chef. They also took the dish off of our bill which we absolutely didn't expect and insisted they didn't have to do that. Overall, the hostess needs to get her ish together, food was decent at best, and the service was top notch. I don't know if I'd come back for more, but I would recommend to my friends that it's worth a try. read more

I'm. Obsessed. Cunningham delivers another jewel. We popped into Modita this afternoon and it immediately became one of my new favorite places. The drinks. Oh my goodness. I had the Cuddle Magic. And it is indeed, magic. So unique. Delicious. My Husband had the Warrior Sunrise and he quite enjoyed it. I then had the Marble Staircase. (I think that's what it was called) I've never had anything like it. Sweet and savory, it was a perfectly balanced cocktail. We tried all of the dim sum offers. The Short Rib Gyoza is something I'll be thinking about for days. Rich. Very well done. The soup dumplings were a "must try". We have not found anywhere else in Indy that serves soup dumplings. We usually have to venture to Chicago to curb our cravings. Now we can just hit Modita! The soft shell crab and bao buns were great as well. We shared the Amish Chicken Yakitori and the A5 Japanese Wagyu as our mains. Both were perfect. The Wagyu is so delicate. Perfect texture. Melts in your mouth. The chicken was tender and flavorful. The service was impeccable. They really shine. The courses were well timed, and they seemed to run like a very well oiled machine. We will definitely return. read more

Stopped in for dinner with a friend, restaurant was very empty but since we didn't have a reservation we were seated at the bar. Bar service started painfully slow with drinks taking 20 min to be delivered due to some miscommunication with a bartender still in training. When they arrived the drinks were quite good. Tried the shrimp dim sum dish which was good and flavorful. My friend had the tamarind noodles which were very good. I had the tangerine chicken which was overly salty and was a let down. Reminded me of something I could have gotten in the frozen entree aisle of the grocery. I would give them another try but won't order that entree again. Overall a fine experience but not the level of service and food quality I expect from a Cunningham establishment. read more

Brand new to the Bottleworks District, Modita offers Asian inspired cuisine in an beautiful and intimate setting. I was very excited to see some authentic Asian dishes on the menu. The Wasabi Tuna was amazing and just melted in your mouth with a delicious kick. I mainly came for the soup dumplings which are typically thinly wrapped with a juicy pork filling and a pouch of soup. Modita's had a chewier, denser wrap with little juice. The Bao Buns were flavorful but the bun was not as fluffy as I would expect. While Moditas is Asian inspired and has its own unique flare, I will definitely come back and try the other dishes. Traditional Dim Sum is typically a lower price point, but Modita has an elevated flare with an extensive cocktail/ drink list which are reflected in the prices. This place is definitely on the higher end but it was such a fun experience and can't wait to be back again! read more

The hubby and I really enjoyed our meal at Modica. We started with some dim sum. We had the bao buns, gyozas, and wontons. The sauce on the Gyoza sauce absolutely stole the show! It was like a gigantic bowl of umami in your mouth! We actually dipped our buns in it! Those three plates really knocked it out of the park for us. We then moved on to some sushi. We had hamachi and wagyu beef. We typically don't like cooked meat sushi, but this was done perfectly! Lightly seared , juicy and the sushi rice was absolute perfection! The hamachi was a lovely light ,refreshing counterbalance to the cooked steak. We then ordered the pork belly rice and the kimchi fried rice. These were our two least favorite dishes. Don't get me wrong they were delicious, but you can tell this is where the "Asian inspired" comes in not truly Asian. Definitely designed for a more western palette but very tasty. We finally ended with the Japanese A5 wagyu beef Rabota grill. It reminded me of what we had when we visited Tokyo....Buttery, melts in your mouth. It had a great crust to the outside. It's served with a kalbi butter, which is nice but feels unnecessary to me. The potato mooncake is a lovely deep-fried potato croquette. All in all we were extremely impressed and really enjoyed our meal. The servers were lovely, still trying to work out some kinks in the front of the house you could tell but were very knowledgeable and helpful when discussing dishes and had wonderful disposition. I highly recommend and definitely will be back! read more

This might be my new favorite Cunningham restaurant! Came here for the first time for Devour Indy this past week and everything was delicious, the service/atmosphere were spectacular as well. I ordered the miso salad, crab rangoons, tamarind noodles, and the cheesecake. My friends also ordered additional dishes to share: the bao buns, soup dumplings, yuzu bar, and wagyu nigiri. The miso salad dressing was so flavorful and the portion was sizable! It was delicious and I would definitely order it again outside Devour. The crab rangoons were also incredible, the filling was made with real crab which I didn't expect. My friends also said the bao buns may have been their favorite part of dinner, and that the soup dumplings were amazing too. The tamarind noodles were also amazing, similar to a pad thai and a generous amount of sauce/shrimp which I loved. I was getting full but still finished the entire dish! My husband got the sirloin steak and said it was one of the best steaks he's had, made on their grill which our waiter said is apparently one of three of these special grills in the country which is super cool. I ordered the cheesecake and my husband had the yuzu bar which we shared. The cheesecake was different but very good--it was like a Japanese take on cheesecake so it was fluffy and pancake-like, but the yuzu bar was definitely the favorite! Great texture and citrus-y flavor (and I normally don't like lemon-y desserts). Our table also had the wagyu nigiri to give the wagyu a try but weren't fans of the flavor on the wagyu, it was too sweet. Perhaps not indicative of the flavor of the actual wagyu steak dish. Overall I was super impressed with the food and experience at Modita. I said earlier it may be my new favorite Cunningham restaurant but it could possibly be one of my new favorite restaurants, period! Would highly recommend and will most definitely be back & soon!! read more

So unique and yummy. Every dish was packed with flavor. Our bartender (red head, sorry I forgot your name!) was outstanding. She was very knowledgeable about the menu. She didn't just say I like that the best, she gave you why she liked it and exactly what made it something you had to try. She was amazing!! Definitely need to come back immediately. Cunningham group knocks it out of the park again. The service, ambiance and food is an A+. The shrimp tofu curry dish and the soup dumplings were the bomb. First things first, don't walk, run to Modita. This is a great addition to the Indy food scene and the Cunningham group of restaurants. The food is delicious, Asian inspired and the various small plates allow for tasty bites and sharing. The dumplings are not pictured but are a must try. I loved the Cuddle drink which had fresh, sweet and sour notes. The sirloin was delicious and tender. The veggies were as tasty as they were fresh. I wanted to give this restaurant a 5 out of 5 but there were a couple holes in the experience. I made a reservation for 8 and we were told we could wait outside while they reset the tables. There were 2 parties also waiting. Then we had to go back in after a 3rd new party showed up and went in and were sat before we were notified of our table. Once we went back in and asked a different hostess we were sat right away. I ordered my drink and it came about midday through dinner, which was probably about 25 minutes after we were seated. I gather these couple service issues were kinks because it's new. So I definitely still recommend this place and hope to go back soon. read more

The spicy bean sauce was amazing! my friend let me taste some but next time definitely getting my own. Absolutely cannot believe that no one recommended this place when I asked around where to go on my one day trip in Indiana. As a lover of Asian food I came across this place and decided to try it out and boy am I glad I did. Went with my brother and after the first bite of the roñara yakitori we both looked at each other and said "this place is a five". Loved every si gel bite from the gyoza to the kimchi rice and the lumpia. If I ever find myself back in Indiana I will be going back no doubt. Drinks were phenomenal- loved the Tokyo Exchange Rate. Wanted to try the beers but the two I wanted were both out of stock... the Bao Buns were incredible. Even better than my old favorites from Rook. The surf and turf sushi was decent. The lacking star for me is the kimchi rice, it was just too spicy (with no warning) and we asked for some crema to cool it down but the chef claimed there was nothing that could help it. It's a shame, crema (of any kind) on kimchi is a delicious pairing. read more

Great service! Drinks were just ok. Food is a little above average. We had the bao buns which were delicious! My fiancé loves it! I loved the soft crab appetizer because the sauce underneath gives it seasoning. The dumplings had great flavor, but I wish it was a little warmer. I understand the soup may burn when bitten into if it was too hot. We also had the wagyu beef and kimchi fried rice. I agree with my fiancé that if we had the beef alone, it didn't have enough seasoning. The kimchi fried rice helped with it even though I thought it was a little too spicy with the ginger addition to it. The kimchi already gives it enough heat. read more
