Have been to Modita a few times. The first time we went it was during this original opening and then we went again during Devour and there menu had changed some during that time. Being part of the Cunningham Group it has similar ambiance to some of the other restaurants such as Vida or Union 50 but its own vibe. During devour I got the Bar Buns and those were delicious could have eaten so many of those fluffy buns they had a great miso aioli on top. I also really enjoyed the Yuzu Bar dessert which had a Graham cracker crust along with a meringue and berries which was a great combination. There Ube-Heath bar ice cream was also incredible. read more

Pros: ambiance is amazing - very chic asian fusion vibes. I really enjoyed the dim lighting. drinks were fantastic and beautiful. food: I got the tangerine chicken, a little spicy but good ..reminded me of the typical orange chicken takeout. I would come back for drinks and apps! read more

Awful! Terrible service, terrible drinks, terrible food. $8 for less than a half glass of sake. I thought it was a joke when it was serviced. Korean corn dogs were disgusting. When asked how we liked it we told the waiter we did not like them and did not eat them. He still fully charged for everything. Decided to cut our losses and eat elsewhere. read more

Initial thoughts: seriously, another Cunningham Restaurant Group? Sigh. Post-thoughts: shhiiiiit this place is amazing. I ordered the mapo tofu and the edamame. Best edamame I've ever had and the tofu dish was perfectly spicy and the perfect size. A touch pricy for my liking, but the price tag warrants the quality and taste of food. One tip for wait staff: stop trying to clear off tables so quickly! We had two times wait staff tried to take away dishes we weren't finished with. Great place - one of my faves from CRG. read more

We had a rehearsal dinner for 25-30 in the bamboo room. The food is excellent and the service was outstanding! Some of the best food I've ever had! Staff is amazing! The event coordinator was fantastic to work with and always got back with me in a timely manner and was helpful and informative. Only suggestion would be a way to have a microphone for speeches as no one could hear with noise of restaurant and it is a group room. It is pretty tight for 25 people, but was manageable. Overall amazing! Staff and food which is #1 reason to be there is the best! read more

Cool new Cunningham restaurant addition to the ones we already love going to! Nice place to have a dinner date or family dinner or party. In the Bottleworks Hotel, which is a super cool place also. Everything our group had was good. Bao buns super popular and good. "Coral" cocktail refreshing. Love broccolini so added it on the side with my dish. Soufflé cheesecake tasty. Will definitely return to try the sirloin and short rib dinners. read more

Service 5 stars Food 3 stars Drinks 4 stars Great service + atmosphere. CJ was very friendly + attentive. Food - Edamame - huge portion + tasty! Loved this. Would get again. Crag Rangoon - huge amount of meat , but bland. The chili sauce was also bland. Wouldn't recommend. Bao buns - YES. so good. Must get. Great flavor. Sushi - WASABI TUNA - was recommended however only thing you could taste was the wasabi Mayo. Bland otherwise. And also why add a wasabi pea on top? I wouldn't pay $5 let alone this roll being $18. Drinks - good presentation and pretty good tasting. As of now i wouldn't go back. Definitely go for the food and too many places that are better. read more

The service was terrible. Our server never put in our order. We waited almost 2 hours for food that was never rang in!! People around us came in, had 3 courses with drinks, and left. The server acted surprised when they checked on us and we said we had already ordered. They handed us menus and asked what our order was. The server took our menus after we ordered originally!! Where did they think the menus went?? We stood up and left because we didn't want to wait another 2 hours for food. The candlelight on the table was the only good thing about the meal. I don't recommend if you want good service. I can't say anything about how the food tasted because we never got our food! read more

Some of the best food I have had in awhile.High quality fish when it came to the nigiri and sashimi. The server was very timely and presented the menu very well making all the dishes appealing. Great place, one of our favorites in town! Enough gluten free options to keep me happy and some of the best sushi around. We've brought many people here and they've loved it, except for a couple bland eaters or those who expect large heavy dishes, but I guess we should have known better in those cases. read more

This was our second trip to Modita. The first time was good, but this visit was exponentially better due to Mo, our super server. She was so incredibly sweet and helpful. I was looking forward to a particular specialty cocktail but they were out, so I asked her about any drinks w/Mezcal. They didn't have any but she suggested a cherry lime cocktail and said if I didn't like it she would get me something else. Her recommendation was spot on - it was FANTASTIC!! Then I asked her about 4 different possible main dish options, of which the NY strip bulgogi was one, and she said it was incredible...and it WAS incredible!! My husband got the shrimp from the robata grill (YUM!). Our starters included the naan (awesome) and the bao buns (a Modita staple that never disappoints). Next time you go, you MUST ask for Mo (and you'll never guess what her full name is!). She will make sure your service is exceptional. read more

Modita - Cocktails were fab. - Sushi Bars Near Me - Indianapolis, Indiana

Not sure what happened but my experience here both times have been very underwhelming. Last time I dined here over the summer the service was horribly bad. Since so many people rave about this place, I wanted to give this restaurant another shot since I was back in Indy visiting family. This time around the service was good, our server did an awesome job with checking on us and our waters were consistently filled. Staff was friendly also. Atmosphere is also really cool, it's dark and intimate and great for a date night or somewhere to take friends and family. We came here for a girls night. Drinks were pretty good, I'll give them that. We first tried the marble, which was a tequila mezcal coconut drink. It was smoky, slightly creamy and tart. I thought naming the drinks after gemstones was a unique idea. I also tried the amethyst, which uses an ube infused rum. You could definitely taste the ube too, the soda in it kind of reminded me of a Mexican coke. Although this one was very interesting, I wasn't really impressed with it. Lastly, the hyacinth was very refreshing and has that earthy flavor, this drink uses beet infused vodka. This was my favorite out of the 3 that I tried. If you don't like beets you will probably not like this drink because of the "earthy" taste it has. Now for food. Last time I was here I got the hamachi, which I thought was pretty good. Yellowtail has a mild flavor and paired with the Asian pear, it's very light and crisp. It was also cut into squares last time which I thought made it super cool and unique. This time around, it was actually in roll form, so not as cool. You can see the comparison of what the roll used to look like VS what it looks like now. What I did not like was the rice, it was very undercooked and still hard, and not sticky so it just completely fell apart when picking it up, and the rice to fish ratio was laughable. The roll was huge but it was literally all rice. The kimchi roll was not very good in my opinion. The rice in this roll was fine, however the kimchi was so overpowering you can't even really taste the salmon. Maybe the other food here is good but I'm not a fan of the quality of the sushi, it was really disappointing. The quality of the fish is pretty average, it's not bad but it's not great either. Obviously I don't expect amazing quality for the price but it's comparable to grocery store sushi quality in terms of just the fish. Due to the quality of the food (higher price point for what it is) I don't think I will return unless to get a drink. It just seems like the quality and presentation has gone downhill. The portion sizes seem smaller too. read more

5 star atmosphere and service, 3 stars because the photogenic food is just short of living up to the price. Absolutely nothing wrong with Modita's food, every dish was just slightly flat, missing that one extra element of flavor to make it pop. For the money, Bodhi gives you huge flavors and you leave feeling that it is money very well spent. read more

I visited Modita two times in the last week. I ordered Devour Indy menu both times. I've had a very mixed feeling about here-good and bad. First, all the drinks that I was trying were not my favorite. It doesn't taste good to me, even with lots of flavors in there. Food was also the same way as drinks. I enjoyed my appetizer menu-Bao bun/egg rolls/Hamachi sushi roll. But the main dishes were either very salty or not flavorful. Overall, I'm so glad to visit here with Devour Indy, a very fair price and the quality of food. read more

Honestly this is probably a 2 star (wouldn't go there again, unless someone else was paying), but it wasn't horrible, so I'll do a three. There are things about this place that could be really good, If they just tweaked it a bit. What we had: Koran corn dog, soup dumpling, hamachi, Wagyu nigiri, Chilean sea bass, short ribs, black sesame ice cream, cheese cake. (Total $170 before tip) There were no real stand outs here, not for the pricing. If we're being real, pay a little more and go to Hinata. That's worth the money. Anyway, the worst part of the meal was the sushi rice. How can it be mushy and hard at the same time? How can you open a higher end restaurant that serves sushi and then not try to attempt to make good sushi rice? Here's some advice to the chef, take a trip to Asaka or even one world market, and taste their rice's flavor and texture... then try to replicate it. If they did that, then they would have something good going on, because the sushi flavors are there, the rice just ruins it all. The soup dumpling doesn't really have soup in it. So that was unfortunate. The flavor was on point, but I don't think they have enough congealed liquid to meat ratio for it to be really soupy, and their skin is too thick. I can't speak to the Chilean sea bass, as that was more my husbands deal, it was cooked fine, but the charred (korean bbq-esque flavor) was a bit odd putting. My short ribs were good, I though it was cooked nicely. If I were them, I'd do a pickled daikon or maybe a chayote, instead of a red radish, but the slices of Asian pear were a good accompaniment. The deserts were alright, our favorite was the black sesame. Nothing to write home about here folks. Don't let the ambiance (it's really nice in there) fool you. The food is not as good as the location. Cool vibes doesn't equal good food. read more

I have been sitting on this review for a while as I really wanted to think about it before writing it. We came to Modita for our anniversary and made a reservation a couple weeks prior. The reservation process was super easy, and we got both an email and text confirmation. We arrived right at the time of our reservation and checked in with the hostess stand. It was kind of odd because I think this was the first time I've been to a restaurant where I had to wait 10+ minutes past my reservation time to be seated. When you walk in the entire decor is amazing : great mood lighting, darker colors, beautiful furniture/designs. However, once seated we were at the table directly next to the front door butted up against the partition that separates the dining area and waiting area. The partition is a metalwork wall that's mainly empty holes and offers NO privacy. We heard everything from someone talking about putting their dog down to looking over and seeing people looking through the partition to see what we were eating. Individuals also liked to lean on this partition, and seeing a strangers butt right by your face when you are trying to enjoy a meal is not exactly the most romantic setting for your anniversary. I will say the thing that made this place standout even with all that was the food, the drink, and our server. We started off with the Pork Belly Bao Buns and the Wasabi Tuna Roll. Both of these by themselves were off the charts AMAZING. They were both so flavorful and fresh. Everyone we had talked to recommended the Bao Buns, but once having them realized why everyone was raving about them. They are really that good! We also got the crab rangoons which were good, but I definitely think we both favored the other 2 dishes to start. For our entrees we got the Tamarind Noodles and Kimchi Fried Rice. We took most of it home because we had filled up on the starters. Again though, both dishes were so flavorful/fresh, and I would 100% get both of these dishes over and over again. Our server was so nice and really knew a lot about the menu even though Modita has not even been open that long. She recommended really amazing cocktails (which I now can't recall the names of), and the 3 of us had a good laugh about the seating situation. I am close enough to walk here; however, if you do drive, it is right by the Garage and you can park in their paid parking lot. The restaurant is relatively easy to find right on the side of the Bottleworks Hotel. All in all, I will definitely be back! If I had any recommendation it would be to just not seat anyone right against that metal partition at the front. We are pretty easygoing people, so we just laugh when we talk about it now. Looking forward to more from this Asian Fusion CRG restaurant! read more

Always super impressed with Cunningham's concepts and this one was no different. The vibe in Modita is great and you know when you walk in you are going to have a great meal. I've had the soup dumplings, bao buns and the crab Rangoons as apps and they were all delish but I could have eaten 40 more of the bao buns. The pork belly was incredible. For my main dish I've had the kimchi rice and the umami noodles. Both were fantastic! The portions are fairly large with a mid point price point so not a lot of room to order more than one dish. I would recommend going with a group of folks who are up for sharing so you can get a good variety. Modita will def be on my list to revisit. read more

My only complaint is that I wanted more slaw with the pork belly, but still would recommend. My husband got sushi and really enjoyed it as well! Then to the main entrees. I got the short rib which was so tender and delicious and perfectly marinated. My husband got the Tangerine Chicken and it was really good but super spicy, so you have been warned. Modita's upscale Asian fusion is a great addition to the Cunningham Group. Connected to the Bottle Works hotel it's a great spot to grab dinner before heading across the street to pins or the movie theatre for a date night. I got the Wagyu Steak and WOW. The Bao Buns was to die for!!!! Picture attached. The pork belly was cooked to perfection, a bit sweet and a bit tangy! Simply delicious!! My husband had the Tempura shrimp Maki Roll and I had the Tangerine Chicken, both were very good..... BUT ... the Wagyu Striploin and Maitake Mushrooms were the crowning glory!! A bit expensive, but we expected that knowing it was a Japanese delicacy. The loin just melted in our mouth; it was the best thing we had ever eaten!!! Everyone should try this at least once in your life! Took a piece of Coca Cola cake to go as a late-night snack... it didn't disappoint! Maybe it was a case of having our expectations too high for a restaurant that has only been open a short while. This is the newest of the CRG line and we have been fans of most of their line. For a long time, Vida was our favorite of all restaurants, so if that is a 5, you can understand why this has a lower rating. I think that when we return in the near future (yes, it has that much potential), they can iron out a few kinks and earn a higher rating. We made reservations so that we could be assured of seating together with our friends as they celebrated their 54th anniversary and I approach my 1 year anniversary after my brain surgery. So a big thank you to Modita for honoring both couples with a complementary dessert. Fortunately, they let us know that so that we saved room for dessert after multiple courses. Be aware that when you order, they want you to order all your courses except dessert up front so that the kitchen can minimize your wait times between courses and minimize the occurrence of your food growing cold. Between the two couples, we ordered multiple items from each course and gave them a challenge. Unfortunately, one of the entrees, the Amish Chicken Yakitori did arrive cold (not just warm, but our friend said it was cold and my wife confirmed. To their credit the waitress offered to replace it or comp it. It was still tasty so she decided to go ahead and eat it (it was cooked, but had just grown cold) so she wouldn't have to make the rest of us wait. Most of the food was excellent and worth trying. We did have a few minor issues. The A5 Wagyu Strip Steak (not upgraded to "Japanese" for another $20) was delicious but more chewy than I expected for Wagyu. I realize a strip steak isn't going to be as tender as a filet, but I thought it would be more tender. The group thought the Bao Buns were the best surprise. I was last to try them from the shared plate and found mine to be way too smoky. No one else seemed to notice anything but a hint of smoke. I didn't want to finish it since I am not a fan of smoky flavor. I prefer grilled taste. My wife finished mine and commented that it was substantially more smoky than her piece which she found excellent. I wish I would have enjoyed the dish as much as they did, but something in the kitchen must of caused my meat (pork belly) to become overly smoked. Hopefully, as the kitchen gets settled, they will keep better balance across the dish. We also tried the Maine Lobster Rangoon and my first piece smelled and tasted "fishy". My second one was much better. My friend let me sample his Bison short rib Bulgogi and it was delicious. I also ordered the Short Rib Gyoza which was yummy and came with a sauce that was sweet and hot (not too hot for me, but too much for my wife's palate.) My friend and I both ordered Gin and Tonics with Hendricks gin. Excellent flavors. I also tried one of the fruity house cocktails, the "Cuddle Magic" that was delicious. Pay attention to prices as each couple's bill went up over $100 despite the comped food. There are so many delicious items to choose from and even the cocktails were $14 each. Oh well, we were celebrating and having a great time. Our waitress Cora did a wonderful job of taking care of us throughout the evening though our request to turn the volume down on the music only yielded turning down the lights. ha! I mentioned we were there to eat and talk, not dance. I am sure that in a short amount of time the CRG people will iron out the minor issues we encountered. My wife would also like to request a hand rail be installed for people who don't want to walk to the end of the ramp just to get back to the entrance. We are definitely going to give Modita another chance soon. Note that they don't comp your parking like the shops/restaurants in the Garage do. That would be nice too! We weren't able to find any available street parking at our visit, but were able to grab a convenient space in the surface lot across the street and north of 9th. They have automated machines which need fixing because the audio says one thing and the message that you read says something else. I finally gave my card to my friend and said to read the machine and not listen and it worked. Not Modita's problem. Just wanted you to be aware of parking for the restaurant. Review #3903 read more

My wife and I recently had the opportunity to try Modita! With it being a Cunningham establishment, we were amped to try it out! It ended up being really good, see the details below. The second we walked into Modita, we could instantly tell this fit the mold of trendy, modern, and upscale. Located in the old Coca Cola bottling building, Modita has kept some of the bones of its former purpose while also showing its new character. Dimmed lights (lit by pretty neat lanterns), a garden wall, and impressive decor played into the theme stated above. It's on the darker end, but this isn't a negative, as the eyes adjust rather quickly (it is funny going outside and seeing how bright the world is). The meal itself was very good. We started off with beverages (Tokyo Exchange Rate, Cuddle Magic) that set the tone for a good evening. The first bit of food for the night was sushi, and let me tell you, it was FRESH. We split the Maine Lobster Roll, and it was some of the best sushi we've ever had because of how natural it tasted. As a bonus, the roll also came with ten (large) pieces! We followed up the sushi with the bao buns, which as you've seen in other reviews, were top notch. Once again, Modita treats the customer with quantity here. These are not small! We then transitioned to the entree, drunken noodles. Unfortunately this is what prevents me from rating Modita five stars. The sauce was on the saltier end (and I love salt), and we were not able to finish it. We concluded with dessert (the Yuzu Bar; good!), and that was it. Nearly everything about this place was superb. It was a fun place to try and we are definitely coming back in the future. I think as Modita matures, they'll become even better, and I look forward to editing my review in the future to reflect that. read more

Got to try this spot with a friend and was so excited to try the new Cunningham concept! Atmosphere is great and a little moody. Service was great and our waiter seemed highly knowledgeable and excited about the menu offerings. We wanted to try a few things so we got the bao buns, soft crab tempura, and the main lobster Rangoons. Bao Buns are so delicious and I'm demanding these as my last meal! Haha Main lobster rangoons are fantastic as well! So flavorful. The soft crab tempura feel super flat for us and was surprisingly disappointing. Kind of tasted like just a piece of fried dough (funnel cake consistency almost). The slaw does nothing to complement the crab and the entire dish was flat. We told the server how disappointing this was when everything else was so amazing! It was my first time trying sake and they have a sparkling one that's a great intro to it. Cocktails were also tasty. Overall a great experience and would recommend! Just avoid the soft crab tempura haha. read more
