We ordered the soup dumplings, potstickers, ginger salad, sesame chicken and edame pods. The meat in the dumplings was very hard and no soup inside. Potstickers were burnt on one side. Both were flooded with a hot chili base sauce. Edame pods had the same sauce. Inedible. Fried rice = no flavor Sesame chicken left a Bad taste in mouth and where was the sesame seeds Server was pleasant but ver slow and dining room very noisy. Would not go there in the future. The owner and chef need to go to a Din Tai Fung and eat real dim sum. read more

We had a very nice dinner at Modita. The ambiance is so fun, sprawling place with great music and decor. It was the perfect space for our reunion. They also take reservations on open table and allow kids. The servers were very attentive and kind. We loved the chicken on grill which was similar to a chicken satay and the peanut sauce was delicious. We would order it with a side of rice next time and make it an entree. We enjoyed the sushi as well and the tofu shrimp curry. We tried the hamachi roll and the shrimp tempura roll / i loved both prefer the tempura roll. The chocolate cake was definitely shareable and also excellent. The price point is a little on the higher side especially with appetizers and entrees and cocktails, easily 50-75$ a person. We ordered an assortment to share. The entrees are decent size portions though and can be shared. read more

Had an unexpected fun evening at Modita! We had been saving this place for a special occasion and so glad we didn't! We sipped fun cocktails, enjoyed the beet app, tuna sushi, and rice bowls for our main (chicken and tikka cauliflower). Our server, Charles, was helpful and friendly as we navigated the menu. Recommend if you want a different spin on your typical Asian dishes. read more

Y'all I don't know! I was super excited about a new Asian restaurant opening up in Indy, and was a little disappointed. I may be a more critical judge of Asian (even fusion Asian) food, but this didn't hit the spot for me. I ordered Bao buns, pork kimchi fried rice and it was mediocre - not bad, but not great. The price point is also a bit higher than I anticipated. I'd be happy to give it a try again, I may have just picked the wrong items off of the menu that didn't sit well with my palate! read more

We had absolutely amazing service and the food was delicious. The hostesses were welcoming and our waiter was so friendly and helpful, and made the best recommendations. Our cocktails and all food were exquisite and I plan to return. read more

Modita is brand new to downtown Indianapolis and is filling the Asian fusion niche. A desperately needed addition to the Indy restaurant scene. A combination of sophistication, comfort, location and delicious food instantly puts this into Indys top 5 restaurants. I can't even put into words how flavorful and well done every dish is. We really tested out the appetizer/starters section by getting the soup dumplings, wasabi tuna sushi, tuna tartare sushi and lobster Rangoon. ALL of them were incredible and could have been eaten as a meal. We enjoyed a variety of the rice bowls as our entree which were also amazing. Modita is in the newest addition to Bottleworks, Indy's newest community dining and social experience. You can shop, eat, drink, work, sleep, etc. without leaving the Bottleworks area. Additionally Modita is apart of the Cunningham group which is the elite restaurant group in Indianapolis! If you need a place for a date night, family visiting, dinner with friends, etc. THIS is your place. I'd recommend making a reservation as it is and will continue to be a hot spot. read more

Finally gave this Cunningham group restaurant a go last night and was NOT disappointed! For starters you want the bao buns - what are they, you ask? They are little pillows of heaven in your mouth. I can't stop thinking about how delicious they are. The miso salad was quite delicious too but I would try a roll over a salad next time. For our entrees we got the steak and tikka masala. Both were great, no complaints but was not wowed like I was on the buns. I would go back and try the rolls, dumplings and short rib next time (there will definitely be a next time). The restaurant itself is beautiful, great vibes for a nice date night. They have a bar you can sit at as well. They made a delicious dirty martini the way I like it and my husbands drink - tickets? I think was very tasty. read more

Food wast bad. Just feel its on the more expensive side for the type of food. Ambience is very stylish and makes a good spot for a meet up

I enjoyed a dinner at Modita, after hearing all of the buzz about it. We started with the Hamachi Uramaki Roll. It was a delicious roll and I loved the crunch on top. The fish was tasty and I'm glad our waitress recommended this. After the sushi we went with the Bao Buns. The first bite (and every bite after) was simply incredible. The pork was cooked to perfection on their special grill and I loved the flavors that the slaw and dressing brought. We also split the Chicken Yakisoba Noodles. They were good, but not my favorite. In my opinion, they were a bit too saucy. However, I still enjoyed it. Since we were celebrating a birthday, we ended with the Chocolate Cola Cake. It was a hard decision on what dessert to choose. On special, they had a purple sweet potato ice cream with heath bar. Our waitress was kind enough to bring a sample. It was really good, but we ultimately decided to go with the cake. I am excited to go back to try some of their seasonal cocktails, try more sushi, and other things off the menu! read more

This restaurant was tantalizing. So many good options and the flavors / textures of everything was more than I could ask for. The only reason it's not getting a full 5 stars from me is that the gluten free options were very lacking. I imagine the sauces contained flour or wheat of some sort - and I ended up eating them anyways and paying the price - which was worth it (I don't have celiac). The skewers and edamame were AMAZING. read more

Modita - Sushi Bars Near Me - Indianapolis, Indiana

Not sure what all the hype is about this place, but it definitely broke my heart. I tend to go to chicago a couple of times a year & never leave without having soup dumplings in chinatown, so being from indy, this place has been on my must try list forever. Came here for my birthday & I was so disappointed. To start I won't blame my server for the extremely slow service since it was a busy saturday night, but my god everything is extremely slow here. My boyfriend & I ordered 5 items & intended to get it all together & share. We were advised that our food would just come out as it was finished, i said that was fine thinking it'd probably stagger 5-10 minutes between dishes coming out. However it was more like 30 minutes between everything. (25 minutes in) We first got the crab lettuce wraps & a tempura shrimp roll, those were pretty good. Next came the soup dumplings, supposed to be the highlight of my night, they were just warm, very doughy on the top & the taste was just okay. The pork bao buns came next, room temperature (& okay taste) like they had been sitting in the window waiting for anyone to bring them. We ordered drinks, which i will take the blame for. Asked for 2 strawberry mojitos as they appear to have a full bar (we were sitting right next to it) the drinks took 30 minutes & had no mint in them (isn't that the point???) Sodas are not free refills even though they only have coke, diet coke & sprite? After another 30 minutes, my Abura Soba came out (highly recommended by the server, supposedly the best rice/noodle dish on the menu.) By that time my appetite had passed from waiting so long for everything but I was still excited to try this "saucy ramen." This was the most bland item i've had in a long time. The pork belly pieces were fried hard like bricks on top, the noodles tasted like instant pork ramen from the grocery store, & again it was room temperature as if it was sitting in the window. I took 2 bites & just sent to back, didn't ask for anything to replace it because I was tired of being there. Our server seemed like she was having a long night, very cold to us, however I've been a server for years so I understand having an off day. I reminded her it was my birthday & asked if they had birthday desserts, she rushed away, came back with the dessert menu & then rushed away again. I saw other ppl celebrating their birthdays with candles on their desserts but mine was just brought out & sat infront of me, no happy birthday no candle nothing. As I was already desperate to leave that just put the cherry on top so I asked for a box for the yuzu bar so we could leave. Also, it was mind boggling to me how all the food would take forever to come out & be lukewarm, yet a lot of employees were huddled up behind the the wall separating the dining room from the host stand. Maybe they need to hire food runners or make everyone accountable for helping each other? Overall everything was lackluster, & it was extremely disappointing since it was my birthday & I had been really looking forward to going here. Even if the service was better I wouldn't return because the food is so average. If you want soupless ramen try Strange Bird, Kizuki, literally anywhere else. read more

I'm in love with this place. It's located in walking distance from where I live in the Bottleworks District. Connected to the Bottleworks hotel and across the street from the Garage Food Hall and pins. This area is great to go catch a movie and follow up with dinner and fun and Pins all in the same area. It's a MUST to grab the pork belly Bao buns. Best thing on the menu for sure. I could eat them literally every day. I'd turn into a pork belly myself lol. I love getting the shrimp Shumai as well but next time I go I would like to try the soup dumplings as well. They are full of filling. We also tried the salmon roll which was also fantastic. We ordered a few drinks but I forgot to take pics :-/ .. our waiter was amazing. I wish I remembered his name but we joked back and forth the whole time. Very personable. Definitely a spot where I would dine atkeast once a week. read more

Great food and quality service. The setting is so cool and it's especially fun to dine in bottleworks. Their pricing can seem high for the portion sizes but they do have a really good gluten free menu and handle dietary needs exceptionally! read more

Fresh sushi, good customer service and cocktails, but the menu is limited. Nicely decorated and inspires an intimate ambiance.

We came here to check out Modita. The ambiance is perfect especially for a date night. The service was on point. The waiter was very knowledgeable. We basically just got tapas and shared the pork belly boa, soup dumplings and sushi. Soup dumplings weren't bad for Indy area. The sushi was pretty delicious too. The pork belly boas what really won my heart. We prob could have just gotten two orders. Next time we come here, we will definitely have to try the entrees next time. read more

I was so happy when my husband surprised me with a reservation to Modita for my birthday. It is located in the new Bottleworks area. Both the area and the restaurant is beautifully done! We ended up a pretty late dinner at 9:45pm since everything else was booked up. I can definitely understand why! I don't think there was a waiter/waitress assigned to our table at first. So many staff members came to check on us and get our drink orders while they figured it out. Cuddle Magic was recommended to me and it definitely did not disappoint! It was so good even my husband was raving about it and he is not a cocktail person. I was a little disappointed the soup dumplings were sold out by the time we were there. I guess it just means I will have to go back! Highly recommend the Bao Buns! The dough was perfect! It was light and fluffy just like it should be. The Kimchi Fries Rice was delicious and my husband loves the big pieces of pork in it. I had the wagyu. It usually comes with wasabi potatoes and I just don't enjoy wasabi. They were able to sub it out with soba noodles and those were delicious! read more

Wow! Tell you what, this place was great. The wife and I were celebrating our anniversary and staying at the bottleworks hotel (which is really nice and spacious!). After going to Pins across the street then getting an oatmeal cream pie at Please and thank you we were looking for somewhere to eat. So as we walked by she stopped and said, let's look at this place (it's in the hotel we are staying at). Glad we did. Waiter was amazing (Evan, he said the kitchen calls him Potter because he looks like Harry Potter). One of the managers also came over and talked with us and gave some Menu recommendations. Wife had the sushi and she said best in Indy. I had sesame chicken. We also ordered one of the recommendations - Bau Boa (not sure on spelling). Wow. So good. It was like pillows encasing a delicious piece of pork belly meat. Overall tremendous experience. Will be back, as my wife said, not only because of the food but how great they treated us!! Thank you!! read more

A good friend of mine brought me here for my birthday on Wednesday night. everything started off great, cocktails were great and so were the apps And service. once entrees came out I was disappointed with what I'd ordered as it was not what I was expecting and requested if I could order the dish my friend had ordered. My dish also came with a side of noodles. The server took the entree off the bill but not the side of noodles. when I requested for the noodles, that I did not eat, to be taken off as well, I was met with an attitude and told that I'd eaten half of the bowl and that there would be an issue with his manager. I in fact had not eaten half the bowl of noodles and that accusation alone ruined my birthday experience here. I felt profiled and uncomfortable. The server went back and forth with me about whether I'd eaten a half empty bowl of noodles they'd given me, ON MY BIRTHDAY. you'd think they'd given better service to someone coming to celebrate at their establishment. I didn't call the manager over because I was just over the whole experience. read more

Modita has been a crowd favorite with my friends since they opened. The atmosphere, location, and concept have been exciting and an excellent addition to the CRG lineup. I also love that they will make reservations for 12 people. That said, this most recent visit represents a continual downward trend in how well the food is prepared and portion sizes are continuing to get smaller. This happened recently when I dined with two people and again with a large party recently. The dishes themselves are inconsistent and make it hard to recommend to friends. One small example, when I received the Tangerine Chicken dish the person who brought out the food warned me about two little chilis inside that I have had and was excited for the heat, but they were left out completely. I am hopeful that this will balance out and elevate the experience again. I have high hopes and will be back and post an updated review. To end on a positive note their rotating cocktail menu continues to impress and has lots of unique twists on the classics! read more

Love this place! We celebrated an anniversary here last night and I don't think we will wait for another anniversary to come back. To start we had espresso martinis, they have set the bar high for the best espresso martinis around... edamame was pretty standard but had good flavor. Soup dumplings were the best that we've had in Indy! Would 100% recommend those. I had the ahi tuna and again... was wonderful. We loved the ambience as it was formal yet fun. Who doesn't love getting dressed up with their SO for a nice dinner and you get to hear Beyoncé at a quiet tone in the background. To wrap up... the service was great as our waiter communicated to us well but also left us alone enough to enjoy our night together. He also treated us to glasses of champagne to celebrate. Thank you Modita! read more

Service food and ambiance are all top notch. A staple in Indianapolis. You have to try the boa buns

We made a reservation and the restaurant was not busy at all. I mentioned on the reservation we were celebrating our anniversary. We got the worst table in the whole restaurant. Empty tables all around in much better locations but instead we were next to the loud kitchen with servers buzzing past us. Drink menu was not my favorite so I just ordered a margarita and it was basically water and tequila. Not a good drink. The service was very polite. The food was also a mixed bag. Shishito peppers were good but only half were sauced, the edamame was fantastic. I enjoyed my sesame chicken but the fried rice had zero flavor. Like if I did see egg I'd have thought it was plain brown rice. My husband did not enjoy his crispy noodles. So I will probably never come back which is a shame to me. read more

I had really high expectations for this place...I usually have pretty good experiences with Cunningham group restaurants...when we first walked in it was beautiful, hostess seemed a little in the weeds but that's typical for a Friday night (she was the only hostess) she sat us and it was 7 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us at our table...no look, no be right with you, everyone just kept walking right past us. Finally Casey, our server came to us and greeted us like we hadn't been waiting almost 10 minutes. It wasn't even about the wait it was the fact no one at least said "be right with you" or "sorry for the wait". Casey took our drink orders which took about 10 minutes to come out...I asked for straws before we ordered drinks so we could drink our water and we never got them until I brought them up again. We were ready to order apps but he told us wait till he puts our drink orders in which again took 10 minutes to get to us. When we ordered apps he had us order our food at the same time. Casey was knowledgeable of the menu so I'll give him that, but service was not there and we still left him $20, I've served before so I don't just stiff people but whew I most likely won't be back. John the GM was very nice and accommodating...we liked the short rib and the bao buns but everything else was not good especially the shrimp shumai...I literally spit it out on my plate. My friends brought me here for a birthday celebration and it was our first time here, wish I had a better experience to share! read more

I came here last week with a bachelorette party group for the first time last week and we had a GREAT time. We really liked the atmosphere from the moment we walked in, and were looking forward to the food. To start we got the bao buns, fried brussel sprouts, and soup dumplings. Other reviews of the soup dumplings are correct: there's maybe a few drops of soup per dumpling. They also came with just regular soy sauce while I was expecting black vinegar or chili crisp. When I come here again, this would be the only thing I'd hesitate to reorder, though this was probably our only "skip" of the whole meal. The bao buns were great, so juicy and flavorful! The brussel sprouts were kind of addictive, and we kept mindlessly going back for more, even when we finished them. For my entree I ordered the mapo tofu. This is definitely unlike any mapo tofu I've ever eaten before (and not a traditional mapo tofu at all). That being said, I really liked it. The little bit of Szechuan heat was still there, and the bits of rice cake had a texture that went perfectly with the tofu. There wasn't a single scrap left in the bowl. For dessert, we shared the yuzu bar, which was not overly sour, lightly sweet, and had a delicate texture. It was a great end to our meal. Also shout out to our server who was great. Unfortunately I can't remember his name, but he went out of his way to explain the menu, and was very attentive the whole meal. Definitely a great employee to have working there, and I'm bummed his name is escaping me now. read more

Very fun experience. The bao buns, pork soup dumplings and the grilled mushrooms were all outstanding. We also had the kimchi fried rice and the tangerine chicken. Food was fine. Brussels were just a smidge too charred, chicken skewers were blah and the tuna was fine.

First the positive: restaurant is beautiful, staff is skilled, cocktails are good. Negative: the food always lets me down. I'm not sure what the deal is here, but I've given the food at Modita 3 or 4 tries and the flavors are never right. On my latest visit, I had ahi tuna garnished with pineapple and the entire dish was kind of syrupy sweet. Not what I was looking for out of an ahi tuna dish. When I say SERVICE- Modita understands what this means. This is the second time we've been here and the service is always stellar! Now the food!! Oh!! When I say yummy does not begin to explain or describe the adventure that your mouth goes on, the word simply does it no justice!! Every dish, the chicken yakisoba noodles, the lumpia, the edamame, everything is just well made and flavorful. The drinks are also well made and flavorful. We had a party of 5 on 12/30 - our bill totaling over $400. Sushi was amazing our service was amazing, but towards the end someone from our party went to the restroom with their martini and left the empty glass in the restroom by accident. A bartender with long hair and a ponytail/bun proceeded to go into the women's restroom to retrieve the glass just to passive aggressively bring it back to our table and say "hey next time don't forget this" he sets the empty glass down and then proceeds to stare at us from the bar as he's cleaning and whispering under his breath until we leave. As we get up to leave he starts making comments to our entire group about the glass and had zero shame in being passive aggressive. I'm sorry but I've worked in the service industry for over 7 years and you never treat guests with confrontation and passive aggression over something as small as a glass forgotten in the restroom. Won't be returning unfortunately after that bartender ruined the entire experience for me. read more

I don't consider myself a "foodie" but I had to leave a review about Modita because I loved it so much. My friends and I wanted to try somewhere new for my friends birthday and we were not disappointed. The food was AMAZING. Everything I got I loved. It's the best edamame I've ever had because it's such a different flavor. The pork belly bao buns were my favorite and I'm not even a big pork person. I would have ordered another round if I had the room for it. The lumpia egg rolls were perfect and I loved the sauce paired with it. Shishito peppers and nigiri were great as well! And the sushi!!! Everything was so flavorful I literally have no complaints. The drinks were also amazing. Towering Twilight has the perfect flavor, I usually don't go for sweeter drinks but I love butterfly pea! I finished off my meal with Sentry's Rest which was smoky and warm in my stomach. I also had the chefs special desert which I loved. Service was amazing as well, I think his name was Evan. He was so nice and great at his job! My friends and I are all servers so we understand the role and he was great. Like I said I never leave reviews but Modita deserves it. YUMMY! Had heard a lot of good things about this place so I had to try it with my friends. As you can see by the photos, we ordered lots of BEAUTIFUL dishes with the Devour Indy deal to share. I am always looking for quality asian restaurants and this place is one of my new favorites. Drinks: I have never seen a drink so bright. I got the Jade drink, and it came out so green and pretty. All of their drinks are named after stones that resemble their bright colors. Appetizers: BAO BUNS are a must. They are so deliciously soft and the meat is perfectly tender to fall apart in your mouth. I am obsessed. Main courses: the waitress gave us a nice heads up about how large the serving sizes were before we ordered. Almost everything on the menu can feed two people! My favorite was the tangerine chicken, a delicious version of orange chicken we are all familiar with. Modita kicks that up by 10 fold with their savory sauce, quality meat, and bite sized broccoli. Goes perfect with the white rice. I also LOVED the tikka Masala, so much flavor. Personally, I didn't quite fully enjoy the Pho Beef. Some of the meat cuts were undercooked, chewy, and too fatty. The broth didn't quite have enough flavor. My friends agreed. All the dishes were so beautifully presented though I'm a huge fan of it all. Desert: Ice creams were a little hard and overly frozen, but the mango sorbet was perfectly soft and incredibly delish! The yuzu bar is interesting, I'd never had anything like it. Almost like jello / cheesecake, not sure if I'd get it again. Overall: I love this place and will be back soon! The vibes and aesthetic are incredible, I love the bar area and lighting. The food is awesome and so creatively presented. I really liked their private single gender neutral room bathrooms, which are so roomy, spotless, and there's 4, so no line! The staff is great, takes awesome care, and very professional. read more
