Building your own pizza is all the rage these days. MOD Pizza is the newest baby to enter the Orange County scene. The squad at this location will give any Jamba Juice staff a run for their money. A little over the top in my opinion but hey, I can appreciate the enthusiasm. Now, let's get down to the nitty gritty. HOW DO YOU ORDER? The common process of ordering from their competitors like Blaze and Pieology is to go down their assembly line, building your pizza starting from the bottom up. At MOD, you order through one person, who checks off everything you want on your pizza. You can either start with one of their house pizzas (you can add/take off any of the ingredients) or MODify your own from scratch. Once you're done selecting your own ingredients, you're then asked to pay for your order at the register. This may be the one aspect where I don't think they fare better than their competitors. Call me crazy but I actually like going down the assembly line, where I can see my pizza being built right before my eyes. I don't like surprises, especially with my food. Had I been able to watch them put my pizza together, I would've told them to add extra spinach, to sprinkle the chopped garlic on top (rather than the bottom), and when I say light on the cheese, I really mean light on the cheese (they say you get a do-over if you're not satisfied but really, who wants to be THAT person?)! I've never had to ask Blaze for extra toppings, so you can compare how generous these 2 spots are through my pictures. Aside from that, their ingredients really are fresh and their crust may just be my favorite out of the 3. Being able to fold my pizza without it breaking apart takes me back to NY. They offer 3 different sizes of pizzas, which their competitors don't do. Although each pizza is [M]ade [O]n [D]emand, you'll probably spend more time selecting your toppings than waiting for your pizza to come out because these guys use an 800 degree gas fired oven. Your pizza comes out within minutes! MOD also has a wider selection of beverages. Beer, wine, Boylan sodas, specialty lemonades and teas. Their Marion Blackberry Lemonade had just the right amount of tartness but I couldn't really taste the blackberry. They only have one size cup here, which is comparable to a Grande at Starbucks. Unlimited refills for those dining in so you'll get your money's worth but not so much for those that are taking their meal to go. Overall, this place is a solid 3.5 stars. As far as "assembly line" quick bake pizza places go, I'd put this one in the middle of the pack. There are a couple places I like better and a couple that are worse. I like that MOD has different sized pies to offer. I like that they have a huge menu board with some suggested combinations which, of course, you can modify to your liking. I like that the ingredients looked fresh. I like that they have a good amount of patio seating. And I like that the price is better than other places. I ordered one of their house offerings, a BBQ chicken pizza they call the Caspian. The guy who was making it told me I could either stand and watch him make it or I could feel free to go to the register and pay and get a drink. I did the latter, which was a mistake. When I got my pizza a few minutes later the chicken pieces were extremely sparse. If I'd have been smart and stood there I could have told him to put more on it. I was frankly surprised how little chicken was put on a BBQ chicken pizza. Still, it was a decent pizza. The cheese and BBQ sauce were quite good but the crispy-edged crust, while maintaining integrity and staying sturdy with every bite, added nothing flavor-wise. MOD Pizza, being the newbie in town, has got my curiosity running. A friend and I were planning to have lunch and I figured why not try it out? It was a weekday and I expected the place to be packed for the lunch rush. Nope! There were a few tables and that's about it. Probably something to take advantage of before the word's out and the MOD Pizza craze begins. We were greeted loudly but warmly by the staff as we walked in. Placing the order was quite a challenge. The music was amplified so I was almost screaming at the top of my lungs to be heard. Not so fun especially when I had too many questions. Fortunately, the girl taking my order proved to be patient after all that ordeal. Living up to their slogan which says, "SUPER FAST", our pizza was ready in no time. Your name gets called and off you go to the back to pick it up. I ordered the TYLER (Mod size 11" for $7.47) which was their version of a Hawaiian pizza with ham, bacon, pepperoni, pineapple and then finished off with a drizzle of bbq sauce. I was happy with how the crust was pleasantly crisp and thin. Now, the bbq sauce was the twist in all this for me. Did it work? Hmmm..it's alright. Then again, you can always MODify your pizza to cater to your own preference. My friend ordered the TRISTAN in a Mega size ($9.47) which is also 11" but double the crust. Its components are Mozzarella, Asiago, roasted red peppers, mushroom, and pesto. It does not have any meat so chicken was requested as an added topping. Each ingredient contributed to the perfect balance of flavors except for some parts of the dough that were burnt. I would opt to get the single crust next time and do away with the unnecessary layer of carbs. Having said that, this was an enjoyable creation that i wouldn't mind consuming again. Now the MOD knots. I just had to try it. One order was $2.97 for 4 pieces. You can mix and match the flavors so I tried all 4 (strawberry, chocolate, garlic, and cinnamon). The winner? Cinnamon. Quite frankly I didn't care for the others. So what sets them apart from Pieology? At MOD, there is no assembly line to create your pizza. They all take care of it for you after placing your order. The con is you can't dictate how much of an ingredient you want on your pizza. Compared to Pieology, all they have is a regular soda fountain to enjoy; while over here, in addtition to that, they have beer on tap, wine, milkshakes, bottled soda, and some house-made juices to choose from. Better yet, it's the fast and friendly crew that works here who's making a difference. MOD has great potential and it doesn't hurt that it's a mile away from where I live. Would I come back? More options than any other places where you can create your own pizza, different size pizzas and salads, several tasty and fresh juices instead of soda, desserts and more toppings than any other place offers! The difference is that I do find their pizza sizes a bit smaller with their garlic strips extra smaller than the other chains. Nonetheless, the flavor is great and still worth the value. These kind of places are great because you get unlimited toppings of your choices in a personal pizza, which honestly feeds 2-3 people for only $8. Their service is also wonderful even though it's all a bunch of bros working. Like another fast casual pizza joint. Literally, their slogan is "Super Fast" The only thing different from this place and another is their pie is served on a flat bread instead of the usual pizza dough that has yeast and rises. That's the main reason why Mod can cook their pies so fast. But that's it, everything else is the same as any other fast casual joint. In my opinion, the flat bread thing is not for me. When the pizza's come out fresh it's alright, not bad. But if it sits for about 5-10 minutes, the bread becomes stretchy and a bit tough. More like a 3.5... The ultimate question, how does it compare to Pieology and Blaze? It doesn't. My boyfriend said something good, at this point it's mostly about the crust because the toppings all taste the same and are good quality and for me...the crust just didn't cut it. PARKING: It's in the same plaza as Rite Aid and olive garden, next to Luna Grill. There are plenty of spaces right in front of it and a little over. ATMOSPHERE: It's kind of the same layout, order first, then sit down. The inside has long high tables and a few smaller ones but there isnt THAT much seating. Most of the seating is outside. I saw heat lamps but it was cold that day so I was glad we got a table inside. FOOD: The people there are really friendly...a little too enthusiastic. They gladly explain the menu and concept to you. One gripe is that they take your order first and write it down then you pay. I like how at Blaze and Pieology I can see what they are putting on my pizza as it moves down the assembly line. I understand that it takes longer and makes the line longer but it helps visualize what I want. I'm the annoying customer that asks for half and half pizza with pesto on one side and red sauce on the other with different toppings. Because I felt a little flustered and had to visualize how I wanted the toppings I forgot a few... One plus though, they have PESTO as a base and it was goood. I liked it way better than the red sauce which didn't have much flavor. The chicken was tender and good, bacon tasty, the mild sausage had a good flavor and the cheeses were unique (asiago!). CRUST - This is the part where it falls flat for me. Apparently it's a little different formula than a normal pie dough which helps it to bake faster (we only waited like 5-7 minutes for our pizzas to be ready versus pieology and blaze which take much longer) but it's very crispy. Granted, some people like it like that but I like my crust chewy and softer with a good crust crunch at the end. This one felt more like a crispy flatbread. Again, I prefer more crust too, there wasn't much when you got to the end. Second gripe is they cut your pizza into fours. I like mine in smaller pieces because it makes it last longer and I can try more of one, here you only get 4 slices, 2 each if you get a half and half like mine. I can't tell if it's smaller than Pieology too because I didn't feel nearly as full at the end, but maybe that's because the crust is thinner? Overall, my rankings hold Pieology the best because of their chewy yet crispy towards the end crust and they have the herb butter base sauce unlike Blaze, which only has red based sauces. MOD is another build your own pizza joint. However, MOD does not give Blaze or Pieology a run for its money. Among the three, I would place MOD at the bottom. 1. MOD is not as generous with its toppings. The tomato sauce they layer on the bottom is extremely thin and barely visible. Similarly, cheese, proteins, and vegetables are rationed in limited quantities. If you want a regular serving that would come automatically at Blaze or Pieology, you have to request "extra." 2. The pizza ingredients are bland. I try to build the exact same pizza whenever I am given the option to customize, but for some reason, MOD's version was nearly tasteless. 3. The crust is crispy, thin and flavorless. It had almost a cardboard consistency. What sets MOD apart though are the beverages. Different beers on tap and milkshakes are available for purchase. The salads here are also better than those offered at Blaze or Pieology. If you're looking to grab a brew with your pizza, then choose MOD. I Yelped a pizza joint last night and this popped up, as I read more reviews, I knew that MOD's Pizza was what I'm eating for dinner. The location is facing Alton, right next to Luna Grill. If you're facing Rite Aid, it's directly behind you. Upon entrance, there's a menu of different options ranging from custom pizzas to custom salads. Since I already knew I was ordering 3 same veggie pizzas, it was really easy for the employee to assist. Their assembly line is one of the quickest I've ever seen and with efficiency I might add! It was veggies galore! For each, I requested extra artichokes and mushrooms. Paid with ease and received all the pizzas in warm boxes and within 10 minutes I was out the door for delivery to friend's house. But there is plenty of parking next to the lot. Anyways the service is very good . They are all so friendly and answer whatever questions you have. Came here at 11:30am on Saturday July 18 and it was not busy at all. in fact, we were the only customer since they open at 11am. Anyway, we were tired from biking and we wanted something to eat before we go home. The girl who made our pizza wasnt even paying attention. I was getting a mini pizza but she already made the medium one. so i said on ill take it instead. she didnt even ask if i want salt and pepper and oregano on my pizza. Didnt ask if i want olive oil. And then she handed the pizza to the guy who would throw it in the oven. and then i said wait i want salt pepper and oregano. took the pizza back from the guy and she didnt look happy at all. Man there's a lot of unemployed people out there and if working for MoD pizza doesnt make this girl happy, she should just give that job to others who deserve it. All these build-your-own pizza joints seem all the same to me now so I'm giving MOD the same rating as Pieology and Blaze. I'm no pizza expert so the only differences I've noticed among the three are the ingredients and the price (not by much though). A pizza at MOD is $8.47, which is pretty comparable to the other places. What I liked about MOD is the crispy, thin pizza crust. What I didn't like is how they cut your pizza into 4 slices as standard practice. I didn't understand why the person in front of me began her order by saying she wanted 6 slices, but after I got my pizza, it all made sense. It's a minor thing, but it's the only pizza place that cuts it in quarters so I was surprised. Overall, good food and service. When a customer gets to the counter, if you're standing in front of them, you may want to great them or say hello, or Hi, someone will be right with you. There was a moment where we got to the counter, and the guy just stood there....looked a little confused, maybe nervous, something lol. So we just stood there with no one helping us finally the Manager...who I will talk about later in this review. Had approached and helped us. He explained the menu, and how it worked. Now to the goody goody! THE FLAVOR IS AMAZING!!! It's something I have been searching for with my tastings with the other two familiar build your own pizza places. This place hit it out of the park. The red sauce they use, is simply AMAZING!!! Perfect amount placed on your fresh dough pressed pizza and everything. No olive oil messiness, no too much pizza sauce. JUST RIGHT! Their toppings are pretty much the same as the other places, but they offer more options when it comes to desert options, and Floats, which they fill a cup full of ice cream and you have at it at the soda machine. I I actually had the opportunity to talk to the manager, he noticed I was taking photos and asked if I YELPED. I said yes. He then said thanks, and asked if there were any questions I had for him. I did. I had a few actually. How do you compare to the other places, of course the answer you would expect...we're better lol. He wasn't kidding, this is the place I will go to the next time I am in a need for a build your own pizza fix. I also asked, what are your thoughts on the competition? Consistency! is the one word I would describe MOD pizza. Two words would be Consistently Good. My experience with other pizza places have been hit or miss with their dough and toppings. However, MOD hasn't failed me yet. Their dough is always well baked and crispy - never soggy or oily. Toppings are always fresh. My go to is Lucy Sunshine. I never knew artichoke is a tasty pizza topping until I had this one. Instead of red sauce it uses garlic rub. It is not garlicky but just gives hint of garlic. It is topped with artichoke, mozzarella, and Parmesan. What makes it special is dollops of red sauce on top of everything! I love their red sauce - robust and slightly sweet. I also like their custom pizza. I have tried different combinations of toppings, sauces and cheeses and it was good every time even when my family raised eye brows at my choices. I guess you can't really fail with MOD pizza? Another big point is their pizza never makes me thirsty. We all had or still having experience where you have to drink a gallon of water after pizza dinner making you feel gross and too full. Not with MOD. read more

You can't go wrong in getting your pizza "Super Fast" here at MOD Pizza Irvine. I was impressed the first time when I took my son out for pizza night, and this time I have an Explore OC coupon for buy one get one free delicious pizzas. If you're in for a pie without meat the "Tristan" is the way to go. You get the garlic and basil taste from the pesto, along with the soft fresco, moist textures of the mozzarella and asiago cheeses. Top it off with semi sweet flavors of roasted red peppers. Overall, no craziness here this pizza is in the mild side and even without the meat and tomato sauce, it tasted good. My wife wanted to utilize the build your own option. Who does broccoli on pizza toppings? She did! So I guess we stayed the course in going more with the veggies to include the mushrooms, olives, artichokes. The added bacon gives it a salted taste to it. This pie creation was heftier thanks in part of the healthy benefits of the greens. I have to admit my wife knows best. Their default size is the 11 inch pizza, you can order them in a mini 6 inch or you if thin crust isn't your thing you can go with double crust. One can never go wrong with PIZZA! Especially MOD Pizza! It was pretty easy to find, Google Map took me right to the location. Its located in a shopping complex with other businesses and has ample amount of parking - next to Luna Grill. It has indoor as well as outside seating options. Location was pretty clean and the service was quick, everyone that works here were friendly. At MOD Pizza, I don't feel TOO bad after pretty much eating an entire pizza by myself and somehow still feel like that I choose a "healthier" option in comparison to various pizza places. Their pizza is loaded with tons of unlimited veggies! I highly recommend having the pesto drizzle after baking the pizza and sprinkling additional garlic on the pizza and you will thank me later. The options are pretty similar to other chains, such as Blaze and Pieology. The quality met my expectations and the service was pretty quick considering how many free pizzas they were giving out that day. Also the workers were really nice and still asked how my day was despite how busy they were. As for the different toppings you can ask for on your pizza, I don't think they should've put the veggies (i.e., spinach, green peppers, etc.) next to the sauce because people may not know there won't be any greens later in the line. It was just a little confusing. They're very generous with the portions and are more than happy to give you more if you ask. After your pizza is all cooked, there's a selection of sauces you can choose from that you can drizzle onto your custom pizza. This place is like the subway for pizza! It's fast, simple & cheap. The customer service here was beyond my expectations for being such a fast paced food joint. The pizza here is so yummy! They have lots of sauces and toppings you can choose from. The only thing I didn't like was their crust. It was so thin that all of my toppings fell off. It didn't have that chewy dough texture I liked in my pizza, it got quite soggy. I don't know if it was because I got it to go and so it was in the pizza box on the ride home but still, the crust was the only con here. I highly recommend adding the hot chili pepper, it's a lil spicy and sweet, it adds a nice touch! Also the pesto here is so thick and not too oily, you can really taste the freshness of the basil and pine nuts. We got 2 build your own for about 8.95$ each and it's such a steal! The pizza is pretty filling and I always have leftover slices. The sriracha ranch here which is pretty good with pizza and also they have garlic butter you can add onto your pizza if you want that nice buttery finish. Overall the service here was very good and friendly. They don't rush you with the toppings and the establishment is very clean as well. I'll be coming back here! If you wanted to compare this place to blaze, I'd say blaze has a better chewy dough. However I enjoy the toppings and sauces at MOD better, especially the pesto! It's pretty close between the 2. 06.09.2018 Came here with hubby and H for some pizza after a movie at the AMC Woodbridge theater. It is similar to the other fast cook customizable pizza places we've been to. The crust was cooked through and crunchy at the center of the pizza, as well as on the crusts/edges. I customized a pizza with white sauce, ricotta, spinach and chicken. I wish they had fresh mozzarella as another place did because it enhanced the flavor of the white sauce and cheeses. There wasn't anything spectacular about the pizza that stood out for me. Nathan, who made my pizza, gave me suggestions, what combos were popular and then the garlic butter before it goes into the oven. The pizza was so loaded with great things, chicken, spinach, mushrooms, artichokes, cheeses, fresh garlic, tomato sauce and more, I had a great time designing the pizza as Nathan piled on whatever I requested, even asking for more and he was accommodating. i am placing the review in all caps because i gave corporate 3x times to make the situation better! my family and i went to this location a few weeks back. my family and i dined at the monterey park location, we had to literally were forced to scream our orders. thier was some sort of a battle of the bands taking place. the music and excitement was at a nightclub rate! we were forced to eat, as well as other customers, outside in the 100 degree plus heat! we really like mod, but this trip was insane! i reached out to mod corporate but to no avail! please never ever frequent or spend any money at this shit establishent! read more
