A new bbq restaurant opened near us so we decided to try it what a disappointment the food was horrible the atmosphere was annoying as they played music loud couldn't relax like you can at mission bbq and the staff is always welcoming and friendly. I love bbq joints! This one was not set up correctly. Their ventilation system is all off bc as soon as you walk inside, your hair/clothes/body will smell like smoke until you shower. I hate that. Cannot even get a to-go order without reeking of smoke. I prefer driving to Rocky River for Carolina BBQ (which sucks bc it is such a long drive, but lake county does not have a decent bbq joint). Of course this is a step up from sticky Dickey's, but none of the sauces taste any good. I enjoy the fries, pulled pork, & seasonal items like banana pudding or brownies. We have been here 3 times, but sometimes there are no good sides depending on what they change them to. It is expensive for what you get considered you need to shower immediately after going here, so this is not a place you can eat-in or go before going out with friends. Service is good though. Has a lot of potential. I have been to Mission BBQ when I lived down south and it was great. Not sure why this one was not built correctly. This was so good. From the moment we entered we were greeted by one of the staff. They were very friendly and explained the menu since it was our first time. I got the chicken and brisket shredded meat with fries. My husband got the ribs and fries. The meat was so incredibly tender and juicy. At the table were a variety of sauces. So many good choices. I mixed a couple of them for a sweet spicy combo. The portions were good size and came with cornbread. The fries are homemade. Nothing frozen or reheated. The ribs were five bones but he got six. They were very tender, the meat fell off the bones. The atmosphere is very eclectic with military and law enforcement and fire patches, pictures and memorabilia. The restaurant was very clean and social distance was enforced. Staff wore masks and gloves. The line moved quick and the food was done quickly. After we ate we had to try the peach cobbler. OMG!! Very good, very expensive. I wish I could get the burnt ends, chopped up point with my brisket instead of just the flat. I smoke meat at home so it's not my top choice since I eat BBQ often. My wife and I had our first visit to Mission BBQ today. While driving through Mentor my wife saw the restaurant and asked to go there for her Mother's Day lunch. From the time we got to the counter we were overwhelmed with the service. The cashier was pleasant, smiling, and helpful, as he advised us on menu items, without getting irritated at newcomers, who were not familiar with the menu or the process. While waiting near the counter for our meals to be prepared, and my name to be called, two of the employees working the counter engaged me in conversation, and told me about the large cookers where the meat was prepared, and explained where the utensils, BBQ sauce, and other condiments were. When we were siting at the table eating another employee came by and asked if he could refill our drinks (which were self service). One of the men who had called me to the counter for our meals, and had been helpful about the condiments came by our table and asked if we were enjoying our meal. WE WERE!!! The highlight of the visit was a lady named Lelia. She came by while I was away from the table and asked my wife if she could take a picture to commemorate Mother's Day. She said she would wait until I got back to the table. When I got back she was having a pleasant conversation with my wife. She asked me to switch to the same side as my wife so she could get a picture of us. I thought maybe she was going to ask for an email address, and offer to send it to us (which would give the business our email address). That was not the case. She told me she was going to print the picture for us to take with us. When she returned to our table she presented us with the picture attached to a Mission BBQ background. The whole time she was smiling and friendly. She seemed like she was really enjoying her job, and liked serving the customers. When she saw we were getting ready to leave she walked us to the inner door, and held it open for for us. I thanked her and headed for the outer door, but she went around me and held the outer door for us. We have never been treated so graciously at ANY restaurant. Not to mention how much we enjoyed the Baby Back Ribs and the Mac n Cheese. I am in Mentor at least a couple times a month. We plan to make Mission BBQ a regular stop when we are in the area, and are already telling friends about it. I sent a message to our daughter in Virginia and she checked and found there are several locations there. We have found a new favorite restaurant. read more

Friendly, helpful, courteous - these fine folks remind you of what so much of the hospitality industry used to be like but seldom is today. 2. The food is very good & the portions are generous. I absolutely loved the cornbread & mac-n-cheese. The turkey & pulled pork is delicious with the smokey BBQ sauce being my favorite. 3. The dining room was clean with an attendant regularly cleaning & bussing tables. Now, the negative (very minor points): 1. The temperature in the dining room was freezing & I'm part polar bear. But the true impact was my food cooled too quickly. BBQ should be warm if not hot when eaten. 2. Your beverage lids suck. Once sealed, they should stay sealed & not pop off every time you take hold of the cup. Everyone in our party had the same complaint. Perhaps it was a defective batch. 3. I'm not a fan of the fast/casual style of dining. It's OK for lunch but not what I prefer for dinner. If this were table service dining, I would be a customer for life. Really wanted this to be a good BBQ joint for Mentor. Maybe it's our fault for coming in their first week. First thing, if you order takeout, they don't prepare it till you get there and you get in line with everyone else. Secondly, they need to lose the damn salt shaker. Had to throw away the green beans we ordered. The brisket was stringy like pulled pork, rather than the nice slices they show in their gallery. The baked beans were oddly flavored, but maybe some like them that way. The KC style sauce tasted like it should have tortilla chips to go with it. More Mexican flavor than KC. Our daughters got a brisket sandwich that was mostly fat. I did like the smoky and Carolina sauces, though. Hard to get above 2 stars on this one, for me. Very nice people, though. I said hot and he suggested I try the brisket without the sauce first, because once it's on, you can't take it off. Makes sense. I ordered mission, barbecue catering from the Mentor a Ohio location and it was fantastic. I had so many compliments from guess on how good the food was. The portions that they provided were extremely generous and I sent food home with many people. I ordered the moist brisket and the pulled pork, mac & cheese, and cornbread. I doubled up on the two sides, supplementing the meal with my own homemade baked beans and coleslaw. I did this because I was concerned that there would be enough. Was completely not necessary as they provided such generous portions I could've just picked the four sides. They also provided plates and utensils and plenty of extra barbecue sauce as of your choice. I would highly recommend this as a catering option. We used it for a graduation party for 65 people and it was perfect. they delivered the food right on time and it perfect temperature. read more

So this is really a 3.5. Overall it is good. We came on Veteran's Day and they were so fast in serving us that the food was up before I got my drink. The model of the restaurant is you order at the register and pick up your food to find a seat. The restaurant was fairly busy, but there were places to sit. There was also people sitting at tables that were blocked off, but what can you do I guess. I did see people wiping tables in between people which was encouraging. The meat was excellent. We both got brisket and it had perfect flavor and smoke. Their BBQ sauce is good, I miss being able to mix with a bottle, but you know, COVID. Their sides, though, aren't good. I got collared greens which were the worst ones I have ever had. There was a lack of flavor and tasted like it was cooked in water. My husband got coleslaw that was eh. I think the meat is worth going, but keep in mind their sides aren't true southern good sides. I also feel that their price points are slightly high for the price. it is 10 dollars for only a sandwich (no side) and the meat doesn't cover the full bun. For ambiance, I love the first responder patches. As someone who was a first responder, I like looking to see if there are any that may be familiar. I also like their "mission" and that they fundraise for different fundraising initiatives. Their chairs are also comfortable, and I feel that it is very handicap accessible.
