As someone who spent 2 years eating through BBQ in Houston and came back to Cleveland, this may actually be the best affordable BBQ place in NE Ohio. Got the brisket sandwich as part of my rewards (highly recommend you sign up for their rewards and add your birthday!) and they ask you if you want a leaner/fattier cut. If your health allows, I highly recommend the fattier cut, as it is quite juicy and a bit smoky. They pack your money's worth of hot brisket into one sandwich and it remained warm and juicy after a 40 min drive back home! Sauce-wise, I recommend honey tupelo if you're into a sweet and spicy sauce. It's quite admirable how much they value their military and first responders from their walls honoring servicemen and women to their deals for military and public service personnel. They have a nice comfortable vibe with their seating area. Parking lot available. The kind and friendly ladies managing and working behind the counter at this location will treat you with excellent service. The manager (I believe) gave me the recommendation on the sauces (which she was very knowledgeable on) based on my taste. read more

I wanted to like this place, but the experience was pretty disappointing overall. The food was overpriced for the quality -- everything tasted dry and like it had been sitting out too long. The service also left a bad impression. Staff at the front seemed irritated and unwelcoming, and there was obvious tension between management and employees that customers could easily notice. Delicious ribs with a variety of sauces to choose from at the table. The brisket options are lean vs a second option -I can't remember but a more fatty option which is what we chose and was amazing. The fries were delicious. The meat dishes came with cornbread which was a nice surprise. They do not have a wait service, you order at the front and they call your name when the food is ready. They will help you bring the plates to the table if you have many plates. My kids loved the meat and they had several non-spicy savory sauce options to choose from. This review is a long time coming. I've been coming to this Mission BBQ for over 5 years and let me tell you something. The food is always piping hot; the staff is Uber friendly and treat you like a friend they've known for years. They have pictures of our first responders not locally, but those who are vets. I love how they treat the vets with so much care and respect. Mission BBQ is literally the only place in Cleveland I can get Kansas City style burnt ends and I feel like I've step back into Lenexa or KCMO. The smokers are always on and they have the most variety I've ever seen at a BBQ joint. Theres always somewhere to sit and sauce is on every table. I have not had a bad experience here until yesterday. I placed the food order and asked if the cobbler was available, she replied yes. I requested 2 cobblers, paid. 5 minutes later she came over and said there was no cobbler available and she could offer an extra side. Not once did she offer a refund. Another customer came in purchased 1 cobbler and what do you know... she gave him cobbler. I spoke to the manager, at which time I explained to her that if only 1 was available that should've been placed in my order, not given to a customer who came in after me. Giving a customer 2 brownies in place of what they requested is not good business. That is not compensation for your oversight. The manager offered 2 sandwich cards, then asked if any of the cobbler could be temped; then stated none was ready. No timeframe was provided. Manager was a lady, as well as the cashier. Not once was a refund offered. Oh and the cashier charged me for a drink that I did not request. read more

I have never been to the restaurant, but I have eaten the food and it was excellent, I was planning a group of eight men to have dinner a monthly get together we have and I shared the location with the group and they asked do they serve beer which I thought was a little odd until I called the restaurant and they told me that they do not unfortunately the group prefers to have an adult beverage and so we chose another location but maybe another time. read more

We had the brisket, and let me tell you, it was so deliciously moist, tender, and melt in your mouth good. The fries are perfectly made, and the coleslaw was fresh and delicious as well. I could tell that the locals really love this place too! We had gone to an Outback the night before and lemme tell ya, they don't hold a candle to this place! The service here is swift and courteous. Amazing BBQ! This was our first time eating at Mission BBQ and we didn't know what to expect when we first walked in. But the guy taking our order was very helpful and explained the whole menu to us which was very nice. I ordered the brisket with Mac and cheese and corn bread and my wife ordered a pulled pork sandwich with Mac and cheese. After we ordered Jared the guy distributing the food was very pleasant and asked us if it was our first time. He explained their whole process with smoking the meats for over 12 hours and not having a fridge or microwave in the restaurant! We love that they have many choices of sauces at their tables- even though the brisket didn't need any sauce to be delicious. It was very moist and great smoked flavor and the Mac and cheese was one of the best in town. The corn bread was warm and fresh and was so good my wife ate half of it and wished she had gotten her own. The atmosphere is very American and patriotic which is a nice reminder of our freedoms. I love bbq joints! This one was not set up correctly. Their ventilation system is all off bc as soon as you walk inside, your hair/clothes/body will smell like smoke until you shower. I hate that. Cannot even get a to-go order without reeking of smoke. I prefer driving to Rocky River for Carolina BBQ (which sucks bc it is such a long drive, but lake county does not have a decent bbq joint). Of course this is a step up from sticky Dickey's, but none of the sauces taste any good. I enjoy the fries, pulled pork, & seasonal items like banana pudding or brownies. We have been here 3 times, but sometimes there are no good sides depending on what they change them to. It is expensive for what you get considered you need to shower immediately after going here, so this is not a place you can eat-in or go before going out with friends. Service is good though. Has a lot of potential. I have been to Mission BBQ when I lived down south and it was great. Not sure why this one was not built correctly. Won't be bad for people that smoke and like the smell of bonfires, but not for me. read more

But in Menner, we have to take what we get. And I feel like this place knows that. Never, ever ordering here again. Teen service crew could care less. Place is a joke. It was ALL of that and more. In particular, Alecia (Nagy I think) was awesome. Took the time to describe and have us sample bbq sauces after she explained the changes due to Covid. If you would all have ever lived in the South or have been to the South and have had actual proper barbecue you will know that Ohio based barbecue is not something you brag about. I was so so wrong. My friend Adrian and I went there for lunch today in an effort to combat the Corona virus and get some decent meat. I never been in mission barbecue before and while we were waiting in line they made an announcement that they were gonna sing the national anthem at lunch and I thought holy cow this is pretty cool everybody stood up hands over hearts and song along with the national anthem. Including the employees who looked proud as h*** to Be there. Since I am doing low carb this place is a natural for me. So I tried the to meet sampler got a side of slaw in sampled a bunch of their barbecue sauces. Holy cow man. I did get the sliced Turkey and some lean brisket and also got white Alabama sauce in some of these super hot Habanero sauce I love it all and I can't wait to go back tonight to get more If you are a first responder this place is legit it is the real deal. Oh I had high hopes for this place, Texas style Bar-B-Q, yummy. Unfortunately it didn't live up to it. I got the Brisket combo with cornbread and a side with a drink. I added two bones of ribs. Price $28.00 and change. I got bottled water for my drink, and the side was French fries. The best thing about the meal was the bottled water, next the French fries, and then the cornbread. The ribs were tender but so dry I was gagging, and all 6 of the bar-b-q sauces weren't good enough to use. The absolute worse and most expensive part of the meal was the brisket, so salty it was uneatable. I do believe if I would have finished eating it I would have died right there. I lived in Texas for over 15 years and I have had a lot of Texas style Bar-B-Q and this is not it. They would throw you out of Texas for this stuff. I hope not all Mission Bar-B-Que restaurants are as bad as the one in Mentor, Ohio on Reynolds RD. If they are I don't understand how they can stay in business. My wife and I ordered a sampling of the menu for takeout. I have mixed feelings about their food. Some items were very good, while others were not so good. Here is what we ordered and what we thought about each. First off we had a slew of sides: the potato salad was very bad, the potatoes were very hard and really inedible. I would not recommend this side ever. We also had the baked beans which was extremely good, highly recommended. We also had the green beans which was very good as well. The cold slaw was kind of non.descrip, it was ok, but nothing to write home about. The macaroni & cheese was very bland and not very tasty, I would pass on this side as well. The main dishes we ordered was the pulled pork which was just ok. The St. Louis ribs were excellent. The beef brisket, which I ordered juicy was anything but juicy, kind of dry. We're no strangers to Mission bbq! While we live in Lake county.. we used to travel to their parma location. Hearing that one would open much closer to us, in mentor.. we anticipated their opening! Of course, we visited on opening day! We couldn't wait. Upon arrival, we were greeted by over half of the employees. Everyone there was super nice to us & our two year old. I got the pulled pork entree combo, my two sides were the fries and Mac & cheese (which my daughter takes as her own, we share lol). My husband got their three meat entree combo with one side of fries. The meats he chose were lean brisket, ribs & jalapeño/cheese sausage (it's spicy for me, but his fav!). There are 6 different bbq sauces available to you along with vinegar at the table. I mix their lemonade with unsweetened tea for my beverage - it's the best.
