The brisket burger is legitimate perfection if you love western style bbq burgers. The portions are so generous you won't even believe how many fries are piled on your plate. The fries are crispy and wonderfully seasoned, and the sweet tea is pretty decent.. though I thought it could be just a touch sweeter. My friends and I recently gave this place another try, and I'm glad that we did! As soon as you walk through the door, you're enveloped with the warm, delicious scent of smoked foods. The atmosphere is quaint and cozy with many TVs to watch. I had the mashed potato pizza. I highly recommend eating it there, fresh out of the oven on a pizza stand on the table. With a beer or soda. This is one on my top BBQ places in Ohio. The only down side, it that the prices are a little high. Everything I have eaten here has been good though. Even their pizza is good! There is a nice smoke flavor in their meats. Everything is seasoned well! They do give good portion of fries. It's a quaint spot. It's usually clean when I'm there. 1. IMO, the vast majority of Smoke BBQ Grill reviews posted within the last 2 years seem the most accurate. Not sure if there was a change in ownership/management since that time but I concur with recent positive reviews. 2. BBQ has to be one of the most contentious culinary topics of all time. Whether you're a fan of either Texas or Kansas City BBQ, keep in mind this is northeastern Ohio. In this neck of the woods, we know more about New England sap buckets than we do smoking brisket south of the Mason-Dixon Line. 3. What I liked. The portions are HUGE to the point I would suggest every two people order a different side dish so you can share. The pricing is very good based on the portions served. Fresh cut fries appeared to be served by the pound. I had brisket & ribs combo. The brisket was juicy & both had a smoky taste. Traditionalists may sharply disagree with my liking the cornbread. Imagine pineapple upside down cake minus the pineapple. More of a dessert than side but very good. Just don't expect your typical Johnny cake. 4. Indifference. The baked beans were good but seemed a bit bland to me. The BBQ sauce was good though I would have enjoyed some different flavor options. Service could have benefited from having one more server on the floor. Maybe one was scheduled but called off. But the interaction with our server was positive overall. The decor is nothing special. 5. What I didn't like. The restaurant was cold. Ironically, another review made the same comment about a past February visit. The chill even cooled our meals before they were served more than I preferred. Seating in the booths can also be a little tight. Smoke is a great restaurant with great service and great food. We have been here a handful of times, and each have been a positive experience. They have booths and tables, making a family dinner night comfortable to sit in; we have always seen other people getting to go orders, so I'm sure those aren't a bad option either! Their BBQ sauce is outstanding, and we really enjoy their fries. Their burgers are always cooked as desired, and even if you're not a big barbecue sauce person, they have a good selection of homemade pizzas and other burgers to suit your needs. First time I feel like the reviews are just wrong on Yelp. Friendly but food was inedible imo other than the fries. Something about it grossed me out and the place just has a dive vibe to where maybe they lost me before I even started to eat. Bacon was overly fatty on my sandwich and then the sandwich fell apart so easily. Sauce was like ketchup. Meats were not seasoned at all. I stopped on the way home at the gas station and just trashed it. $30 down the drain. Went to Dairy Queen afterwards, just to get the taste washed out of my mouth. Oh well - win some and lose some. When it comes to bbq I think it's hard to trust Ohioans. You want central Texas style bbq - go to Joe's in Brimfield (though it's far away from the area - it's well worth the drive). I went to college in southern Alabama so I tend to be picky when it comes to BBQ. I have tried a number of places around Cleveland and haven't been too impressed thus far. Smoke is a little drive but well worth it! I got the burnt ends wrapped in bacon (nice touch to add some moisture with the bacon) and the brisket dinner. For sides, I got the salad (your average side salad), green beans (fresh but nothing special), mashed potatoes (better than average), and paid the extra $1 for the 'premium' onion rings (good but the added salt was a bit much). I would probably go for the premium loaded baked potato and bacon mac & cheese. They were generous with the burn ends. The bacon added a good touch of 'extra' to the flavor. The brisket had a light smoke flavor and a bit of their house BBQ. The brisket had just the right amount of fat which kept the brisket moist. I got the orders to go and ate them in my car. Someone mentioned the décor of the dining room. I could see how you could say that but the best BBQ places down South often look like hole in the walls. I'll definitely be back! read more

I've been too Smoke a few times. Their brisket is consistently good and does not disappoint. The ribs are kind of dry and are hit or miss. One appetizer that is off the hook is the bacon wrapped burnt ends dipped in bbq sauce soooooo good. The sides have not been good in my opinion. The slaw is bitter tasting, the fries were soggy, the green beans are frozen and have no flavor at all. The Mac and cheese is pretty tasty and worth trying. Somethings changed...there is very little (if any) smoke flavor to the pulled pork now and I don't think there was any sauce on the two pounds we bought for carry out. It was also charred a lot - like maybe a newbie thought char means BBQ? - not fatty though so that's still good. This place always had a great lil vibe - good beans, solid corn dusted breads, interesting and tasty specials like the pulled pork pasta and the yummy appetizers - I hope whatever changed changes back as I hate the thought that I go pay to pick up BBQ just to come home and slather it in Sweet Baby Rays or some Memphis style sauce...it shouldn't need it. When you walk into a restaurant and the first thing you notice is the delicious smell, that's a good sign. I got the burnt ends which were tender and wrapped in bacon (could have been crispier). I like they weren't drowning in sauce, I prefer dipping it on the side so I can control the amount of condiment. The mac and cheese was very rich and creamy. The fries were good, the green beans could have been cooked a little longer, just my preference. My wife got the brisket and turkey which were both smoky but the brisket had a titch too much gristle. I'm from VA and made many visits to NC so I know from BBQ. If I can't be there, Smoke covers for me. They don't have hot vinegar but the pulled pork is more than passable. And the rosemary fries are marvelous! (I hate rosemary!) But the best is the corn on the cob!! I lose myself in it and couldn't care less what I look like as I mow through it! And I think they are opening or have opened a second location on Vine St! (PS - I lived near Memphis too and you can just skip that BBQ on my recommendation. Decided to try this restaurant while visiting my family in Ohio, as I grew up right on Bacon Road. The interior of the restaurant hasn't changed since the the first time I visited in the 90's (then a pizza place by the name of Mr. P's), so that was a bit of nostalgia I enjoyed. And that was where the fun ended. I ordered The Roast Beast, which is essentially a French Dip, and macaroni and cheese with bacon for an additional upgrade. The sandwich was presented on a sesame seed hamburger bun, which was unimpressive, but the absolute lack of taste was the deal breaker. It had none. The meat was bland, there was hardly any (shredded) cheese on the sandwich, and the au jus tasted like it was made by boiling ten gallons of water and adding in one beef bullion cube. The macaroni and cheese was orange, and clearly not made from real cheese. It looked a bit like Kraft mac and cheese, but had even LESS taste. I would have been more satisfied with Kraft. Worst restaurant food ever, and I'm no food snob. I prefer literally everything I've ever had in any kind of restaurant establishment, even fast food, over this place. If you're stuck in that particular area, the food at the convenience store/gas station right next door (RediGo) is better. By a lot. My friend liked the riblets she ordered, but I left feeling like I flushed $30 down the toilet. The service, at least, was very good. read more

Super disappointing carry out last night. We ordered 2 racks of ribs with 2 sides. The ribs were suuuuuuper dry and burnt to a crisp. Nothing worse than craving ribs and then paying $20/slab for bone dry and black burnt ribs. The coleslaw had no flavor, the green beans didn't have ANY seasoning at all, no salt or pepper on them, just boiled tasteless beans.
