Gary at Minute Man Press was super helpful. Especially in a situation needed asap. A+.

I feel like such a fool for not checking Yelp before I decided to use Minuteman Press for a simple business card job. The experiences described below are unnervingly similar to my own. If not in play-by-play detail, certainly in overall tone and message. What is that message, you ask? Gary is an unprofessional prick and his company produces shoddy work. After a failed attempt my order, I left Gary a message over the weekend telling him I'd be in at the beginning of the week so we could figure out a solution. When I got there, he went immediately on the defensive and quickly turned offensive. At one point, he tried to bait me into "stepping outside." Really? Eventually, I got $75 back out of a $125 bill. Which, after reading the entries below, I feel pretty good about. A $50 lesson taught me A LOT about what to look out for. Check out Digital Hub, btw. My wife and I were looking for a place to get our annual "Christmas letter" printed when we came across Minuteman Press. In previous years, I have busted out the old inkjet and printed off 100-150 copies. This year, I was hoping for a more professional look and hoping to save some time also. Gary and his staff were very helpful and my order was complete in just about an hour. The colors were excellent and they actually threw in a couple of extra prints (which was a pleasant surprise). I'm not sure why other reviewers have had negative things to say...my experience was nothing but positive. I'll be going back to these guys for all my future printing needs. read more

I had no problems with Gary or Minutemen Press and I would certainly use them again. I was waivering between 3 and 4 stars actually. I went with three stars, because like many others, my project was later than I was quoted....but still better than I could expect. And then, on second thought, I went with 4 stars. I called Minutmen Press with a rush order, I called on a Wednesday afternoon to get a Step and Repeat banner on Friday. They said they could do it by Friday. I called on Friday to ensure it was ready and they said, "It will be ready at 430p and we close at 5:00p" giving me a 30 minute window to pick it up. This was irritating, but then they said I could come on Saturday morning after 8a which made me happy. They cut me a deal on the rental for the poles and weights for the step and repeat and they did a good job in a really timely fashion. I plan to use them again for some collateral pieces for my marketing business so we shall see what happens. And, so long as he gets the job done, Gary can yell all he wants, I'm not afraid. To all the big cry babies compaining about his yelling, it's a print shop in Chicago not a beauty parlor. p.s. i have no affiliation to this business or Gary. I wish I could leave negative stars. I contacted them about making small stickers to cover up a typo on a project. They said, yes, they could do it by the next day. They never called to say it was ready. I had to follow up. When I got a good look at the stickers I could see the black background was uneven and streaked. The owner said repeatedly that he couldn't see it and then added: "And I sure as hell aren't going to reprint them!" At which point I knew he could see it but wasn't going to do anything about it. Then he said: "Maybe if you'd been this careful with your product you would have this problem!" So instead of being helpful he chose to be insulting, and when I said why be insulting, he said because nothing else was getting through to me. How's that for customer service? Sees there's a problem, won't fix it, and gets insulting. It went downhill from there, with him saying "F*ck you" in many ways and ordering me out of the store. I've used a good Minutemen Press before, but this is the worst printer I've ever used. Run away! Don't use! read more

Worst experience I've had using Minute Man Press. Since when is it ok to curse at your customers. It's not ever. If you can't handle someone being upset with a mistake you made or lack of customer service then you shouldn't be in business. I really can't sing the praises of this company enough. First, they are incredibly QUICK! My theatre company has had everything from our letterhead, envelopes, and promotional materials printed with them. Each time we've used them it takes less than a day from quote to pickup. Second, Gary, and the rest of the staff is absolutely wonderful! They do a tremendous job making you feel like a valued customer. They are very professional and friendly. Third, their prices are very fair. We shopped around a long time for a printer. We keep coming to Minuteman Press again and again. You really can't find a better deal. Fourth, the end result is spectacular. Sure, printed materials are only as good as their design (and we have great designers), but each piece we've had done there looks crisp and polished. Minuteman Press will be our printer forever, as far as I'm concerned. No need to look anywhere else. read more

Pretty lousy customer service. I inquired on several prints through their website. Someone by the name of Gary Allison responded right away and said he needed a couple of days to get a quote back to me. I requested an update twice by email and called into the store to speak with Gary once. The person on the phone told me Gary would call me right back but never heard from him. I waited another week and finally moved on. Pretty frustrating experience and would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

I'm having an event and was looking for a backdrop that I could have personalized. I searched online and this company came up. So I thought ok great they are local and are reasonably priced. Initially I was pleased with the phone conversation with the owner Gary he was not rude or anything of that nature, in fact he assured me how satisfied I will be with my personalized backdrop. However, dealing with Mike Wszolek the so called Design Manager was an ass! I submitted my draft and made it very clear of what I was looking for pretty simple.. The first draft was done and it was nothing like I mentioned HOWEVER it wasn't a bad thing-I was very particular from the beginning the type of font I wanted and also the colors. Well it was obvious that he didn't know how to get the fonts so I did a little leg work and sent him screenshots of the free downloading websites available. I suppose he was offended but who cares, either be honest or accept the criticism. Due to his imperfections he then stated oh we are going to have to charge extra if we continue with revisions. Word to the wise had you followed my instructions from the start there would be no revisions! When dealing with the public you have to learn how to conduct yourself at all times-there will be positive and negative feedback just learn to accept it and make your business better. I'm going to echo what many have said on here. Gary is menacing and for no reason. If you can't provide price quotes that you can point to and are constantly adjusting prices out of thin air it goes to show you are neither a dependable nor a professional business. I never received receipts for what I paid for until I insisted for bookkeeping purposes. Specific emails detailing what I wanted and by when were either misunderstood - even after clarifying phone calls - or ignored. I gave 5 days prep time for a job and they finished it late. Overall Gary was defensive for poor service and outright dismissive. Here's a quote I wrote down for this purpose right after he said it: "I'm spending too much time on this." Great, I'll have someone else spend the time. Avoid. read more

Last week, I visited a competitor to have wedding invitations printed out for my sister. I have used that printer, in the past, with no issues but this time I had the worst experience. After days of trying to work with them on my design and paper choice, they refused to give me a quote. I dropped off my order on a Wednesday and by Monday, I only received a quote because I kept calling and calling. By the time I received the quote, it came with the caveat that the files I sent weren't what they were used to, my font type was too light for the paper I chose, the paper was going to be something they wouldn't be able to print on with quality, and that they would need more paper from me in order to get the quantities that I needed. The quote was for $610 to print 120 invitations (that had 4 pieces). Mind you, I needed to supply more paper. I was so upset about the lack of urgency they had for my print job. I then went to another competitor's Yelp site and found out that many were unhappy with their services. Embedded in those reviews was a suggestion to go to Minuteman Press. BOY WAS I HAPPY I CALLED GARY! First of all, Gary was the nicest person on the phone. I called at 4:50pm (they close at 5pm) and explained my drama with the first printer. He said that he would be happy to help and asked that I send the files over. He reviewed the files and said there shouldn't be an issue with the design but suggested I come and show them the paper. The next day, I dropped by with the paper and met Mike K. (one of the designers). He said the paper should be no issue to print on, that the files, were fine, and that they would have the job done in a couple of days. The next day, Mike gave me a quote for the job. It was $275 (total) ... Less than HALF of what their competitor told me - and minus the drama and the attitude! When I went to pick up the invitations, they looked beautiful. I was so thrilled with working with Mike K. and with Minuteman that I promised that I would give them glowing reviews because THEY DESERVE IT! Don't waste your time with other printers. In the end, just work with Minuteman Press. They're the nicest guys, will treat you fairly, and will get your job done in the fastest time they are able. read more

I used Minutemen to print a large check and they did a great job. It was short notice and they exceeded expectations. I called again to print a flyer and was given different pricing online and then different pricing over the phone. When I called back to confirm pricing, the manager, Gary, screamed at me and told me to just book it but refused to give me pricing. I told him that if he could not give me a price that I would need to go somewhere else. He told me to go somewhere else and hung up the phone. Minutemen does good work but are extremely rude to customers. Go somewhere else if you can. read more

Wow. Perhaps the worst and rudest customer service I've ever received. My mother in law passed away and I was tasked with enlarging a portrait of her for the Memorial Service with only 48 hours notice. I called and spoke with Gary who asked me to send over the file. I explained it was time sensitive, and he said no problem. Later in the day, I had yet to receive confirmation that he received the file, so I called just to make sure, seeing that it was such a quick turnover. He told me it would be ready at 930am the next day for pickup, which is great--because we had to travel to the suburbs to prepare the house. As you can imagine, planning a funeral is a very busy time. By 1230pm I still had not heard from him, so I called the store. He told me he had deleted the file by accident and it would take "some time" to print it. Disappointed, I explained to him that I didn't have much more time---he cut me off and told me I was making his job difficult and he was "very stressed" over there. In response, I reminded him that he told me 930am, and he once again cut me off and said "I'm not going to tell you again, you aren't making my job easy". At which point, I reminded him that I came to his business to help me prepare to bury my mother in law tomorrow. It's certainly not an easy time for me either. He then said he wouldn't help me. I was floored and just said "WOW- this will be some yelp review, I'm in shock on how you handle customers." And he hung up on me. Now I have to tell my husband that we won't have an image of his mother at her funeral service because Minute Man press not only did not do what they told me they could do (easily reason enough to be upset), but they also handled this situation without tact or professionalism. Rude and unresponsive. Threats of being sent to collections (with no service being provided) and being taken to Small Claims Court. I have never received a quote for a service, then had less than little contact with that same business only later to be told I owed them money. For a quote! Absolute garage. I tried to shop locally and this is what I get? I'll go mail order and have less headaches. Just an awful experience in speaking with Gary. As one other reviewer said he is a bully. I had a wonderful experience! He printed my birthday sign in one day and was by far the most affordable option out of all of the printing places I called. The sign was beautiful, ready extremely quickly, and was professionally packaged. Gary even had his employee load my sign into my car! Wonderful service! The Mad Cow Killers! I have used Minuteman Press off and on over the years but have now become a convert to the way of Gary. This is a straight No B.S. Chicago guy that knows how to take care of business. Not only that but they have the best price versus quality ratio in the city! Here is the super secret tip to ordering your business cards from Minuteman Press. Ask for 16pt card stock. 16pt is the same exact thickness the Udder Guys use but you get a much better price. Because let's be honest, the whole cow is expensive for business cards. Not only that, you get your cards faster and you support a local business that give local jobs. I really like Minuteman Press. I understand some people have had bad experiences here, but with the amount of times I have gotten projects made here (over 15 or so projects) I have had absolutely no complaints. Rule of thumb: Give yourself time to email your project in to receive a quote. Gary is a busy man, and he is always moving nonstop to keep his business running. Some people may not like his attitude, but he is a Chicago guy; I totally get it. As long as you give yourself time to send in your project, follow the printing specifications exactly, as well as take a good long look at the proof before okaying the project to print; you will be fine. Also, I simply just email them and ask for an invoice for my receipt. Works the same way for my accountant and clients, and its much faster for them to send it to me via email, instead of them having to go back through their records in the credit card terminal. ALSO, I almost forgot to mention. The workers at Minuteman Press even have helped load my car a couple times, without me asking them. They did it with a smile and even made conversation with me while they did so! read more

Really just terrible. Was referred by a friend to Gary and team via email who had worked with them quite extensively in the past. I had a simple printing job for my wedding - 200 menus and ceremony programs. Not only did the team at Minuteman take a week to respond to my original inquiry, there were no answers to any of my questions on timing or paper, just a one-sentence question back to me. I responded same-day and just never heard back. Tried following up - nothing. I need printing services fairly regularly and I'll never go back here. Ended up going to Sir Speedy on Diversey and it was definitely the right move. read more

I had clothing embroidered and silk screened for my business. Not only did they miss the deadline (I was promised) by 2 weeks the product I received was subpar. The silk screen was done in 2 colors and EVERY single shirt was lined up off and it is obvious. The embroidery was much more successful and looked much better but they ruined a pair of expensive pants by sewing the logo through the pocket making it unusable. This is inexcusable. It also took them until the day before I got the items to get a price quote which they claimed I was getting a discount "due to their delay in finishing the product." How do I know I received a discount when I never even got a price quote until the end. Overall my experience with Minuteman Press was that they are a very disorganized company filled with workers who just didn't really care about the customer. They get the job done. My package did not come in from my usual printer. So I called Minuteman press at about 11 AM. I gave them my designs via their portal online. And they had my printing ready before 4:30 PM on the same day. I ordered at 10 x 8 ft step and repeat (backdrop) and a retractable banner. My event went well because of it. Minute man press really saved my day. A special thank you to Brian for working so diligently. He is Photoshop proficient and he works super fast. He gave me the recommendation to use illustrator and again went above and beyond. They are very busy so I ask that you give them what they need and let them work their magic but they won't let you down. The owner is also very hard-working. I worked with the Minuteman printing team for ZeroCater's marketing collateral for the large Techweek conference that recently happened in Chicago. I asked Minuteman to print a very specific type of half sheet, create promo stickers and a step-and-repeat backdrop for the event. Not only was the team very well versed with printing (even found an error in my materials) but printed everything flawlessly, quickly, and affordably. I have never worked with Minuteman before but I would without a question work with them again. I highly recommend. read more

THIS IS A BUSINESS NOT TO BE TRUSTED. They advertise with a handout that "Give us a Review on Google or Yelp" and receive a free $10 gift card. I left a review, and because it was not positive, they lied and never gave the gift card. Their card says "Once the review is posted and confirmed, call us with your mailing list and we well send your gift card the next business day". I did that, and no gift card, so it was another false story by this business. read more

I ordered buttons from this place over the phone. I get an email a few days later saying my order is ready for pick up the only problem is this place is in Chicago and I'm in Raleigh,NC granted at the time I didn't now this place was in Chicago or a franchise I was just looking online to order buttons and found this place so call to tell them that this order should be mailed out and they say well you'll have to pay 20 for mailing but I disagreed why should I have to pay for your business mistake they took my payment over the phone even ask for the billing address never asked if this was a pick up order or to be mailed out so the owner Gary Allison gets on the phone and starts cussing F you F that seriously just like that also when I asked for a refund he told he would not give me my money back of course I was upset then he preceded to taunting me like a little kid "what you going to do about it tough guy" for the record I never once cuss raised my voice or threaten this man I was just like wow this man runs a business this guy has serious anger issues and no idea how to deal with customer 3 simple things for a business to be successful listen to your customers be respectful and patient this place fails at all three this might be the worst printing business in the world this franchise will erode trust in this company over time I'm a nice person but this guy is going to meet the right customer one day to the employees that work there do yourself a favor find another employer because he is not someone you want to strive to be bitter old sad and depressed if I could give 0 stars I would worst customer experience ever so far Ive had to file paperwork with my bank to get my money back when they could have just refunded me I never received the my buttons and have yet to get my money back read more

I used Minuteman Press for printing my wedding invitation suite and I couldn't be happier with the end result! Gary was prompt with responses to emails and phone calls and Adam did a great job with the printing of the invitations. You have the option of bringing your own cardstock for the printing--I didn't know that but Gary was helpful in showing us cardstock options he had in stock and pointed us in choosing a beautiful shimmering linen cardstock that he had for no extra charge to our initial quoted price. Turn around time was less than 5 days total and the price was very reasonable. All in all, a wonderful experience. I recommend Minuteman Press for any bride who is designing her own invitations or using Etsy designers to design. I really should have checked Yelp before working with this company. After Gary proceeded to yell at me over a $120 order for note cards I was so angry I told him there was no way I could work with him. After reading other reviews it makes me feel better that it was not personal, Gary needs to learn customer services skills or hire a manager to speak to clients. Who yells at clients over printing? Gary - you're not curing cancer jerk - YOU ARE A PRINTER! I have never been treated so poorly and the last time I checked there are a million printers in the city. While they are able to turn jobs around quickly, better be sure you know everything about printing or you'll get yelled at. I have no idea how they manage to stay in business but if this is part of a franchise Minuteman Press should read these reviews. Now I know to check Yelp in the future before giving anyone in this city my business. I realize you can't believe everything you read but when people are complaining about the owner in this manner and the company is not responding, run the other way! Glad to know Gary can afford to lose clients in this economy. I assume he just relies on one time jobs from people not repeat customers. Customer service was great and email correspondence was very prompt......and they had a jar of candy at the shop :) Had a pretty standard rush order of 500 business cards that was surprisingly difficult to get done through vista print.....with no candy whatsoever. Bryan was able to get it taken care of for an easy pick-up....while I chewed a Dubble Bubble. Once I got the cards, I was very impressed and satisfied with the final product......and the candy they gave me to take home :) Will be going back and would definitely recommend! read more

I use no one but my guys at Minuteman Press! I couldn't get it any faster if I printed it myself. ALL of my clients love their work and their ability to print on the spot with last minute requests. The pricing is reasonable and they make themselves available whenever possible. Do not take that as being available EVERYTIME for last minute indecisive requests. They are a business with more than just ONE client. Respect their time and they will always go above and beyond to do whatever possible. The proprietor is both unprofessional and unapologetic when mistakes are made on their part. If a customer has paid for a product in advance they fully expect the product to be completed by the deadline. I have used these guys for two years with frustrating attempts at a reliable service. I Emailed to get business cards made for a new team member. No response after 3 attempts in one week. I then Called to order and the vm says "we rarely check vm and email is the way to contact us." Right. Called today and got Passed around 2x and the owner Gary never acknowledged or owned their week-long zero communication service but got upset that I rightly was upset and on a deadline that could no longer be met. I asked for my original file. He said they didn't have my original print file and I'd have to settle for a PDF (aka incur another design fee somewhere else). I will NEVER use them again)! read more

I made an attempt to do business with this company. The initial quote was made with inferior material. The adjusted quote was verbal and when I asked about the material, I was beradded that I was asking too many questions - How long will this sign last made with this material? They failed to offer a written quote and when I went to address a competitive bid from another company - the owner became indignant. Do not do business with this company. read more

Minuteman Press does all our materials for our union. They made our banner, our union cards, and any color flyers we need done. They also made the t-shirts for my podcast! They do great work, have a quick turn around and are always polite and helpful. They even help me carry the large orders to my car. And they're a union shop which is important to me. read more

We had a terrible experience here. We ordered pins for a kids' sporting event and everything came out fine... initially. We sent a check to pay the invoice, then two weeks later got a call from the rep saying they never received the check and asked if we could Paypal the funds instead. We sent the funds but unfortunately neglected to put a stop payment on the check, not realizing we were dealing with a dishonest shop. Well of course six months later the check was cashed We called the shop on multiple occasions and found that the rep we had worked with was no longer there. We spoke to Gary (the owner) on multiple occasions who was extremely rude and kept putting us off saying he "needed to look into it." He finally admitted to the error and promised to reimburse us but of course he never did. It was pretty clear that he intended to do this all along since he waited until very close to the expiration date before cashing the check. He apparently had no qualms about cheating a bunch of kids. There are so many other places that offer these kinds of service, why run the risk of doing business here when they are dishonest, have a history of poor reviews, and are rude and obnoxious to boot. read more
