The Saloon has been completely rebuilt and the finishes and new decor are as nice as they can possibly be. The place is immaculate. The menu is creative and everything we ate was delicious. I had the Mile burger and it was exceptional. My kids took down the quesadilla and tacos and didn't leave behind a single bite, even though I asked them to so I could sample their food, they just dusted everything. We were there on a busy pre-Halloween night and the crowd was festive and fun, great musician keeping everyone entertained, and our server did a good job of handling our large group and answering any questions we had. Very excited for the NEW Saloon, I look forward to returning several times or more this winter. read more

We got 1/2 our food before we received our drinks. I realize there are growing pains, but I expected more. $6 for chips/salsa. Crazy. I wouldn't waste your time. If you're looking for a laid back dining experience complete with a great history and lots of memorabilia, this is the place. Mexican food is plentiful but Americanized to match the bar atmosphere. The ribs are outstanding and unless you're a football player order the smaller version! Pitchers of margaritas suffice to quench your thirst but they appeared to be too weak for our tastes. Don't bother with the flavored margaritas, our guests were disappointed that there was no extra kick. Many ski down the Minturn Mile to arrive at the bar so you'll see a few skis outside. As a long time local I was looking forward to checking out the revamped Minturn Saloon with friends. I like the remodel and the ambiance is great. We ordered regular vegetarian nachos and a mushroom quesadilla in the bar area. The gourmet mushroom quesadilla barely had any mushrooms and was soggy. The nachos were a large plate to share however, as I bit into one I realized that underneath the cheese was meat. Our waitress was very apologetic and ordered new nachos for us. They were brought to our table by Tony, one of the owners, and he promptly dropped them off and said "here are your free nachos" I said "excuse me, these are not free nachos, they are to replace the wrong order" Instead of apologizing he stated " well enjoy your extra nachos" and walked off. We were all shocked at his attitude. No apology at all. I couldn't believe an owner would talk to his customers like that. And, they were just average nachos. The Red Lion and The George have much better nachos for the price. Unfortunately, I won't be going back to eat as the experience was disappointing. The food was great- the beer was cold. Our waitress, seems as tho she's been around for a long while. Had insight to nearly everything on the menu. The fajitas were fantastic- and their salsa was great too- homemade for sure. Oh, ask for a side of their homemade hot sauce- it reminds me of a Chinese chili oil- but so darn good- put it on everything. On the way out, make sure you tip your cap at the signed Elway jersey. Christy was fabulous and the food was INCREDIBLE- you walk into this place and can't believe it could be any good, but we loved the vibe and all had fabulous dishes ranging from Chimichangas to ribs to quail. My brother (part of our group of 8) was struggling to decide between about six different things on the menu, so Christy created her own combination for him. Cannot recommend enough! Awful, awful, awful.. Did I mention this place is awful? Everything on this menu is either canned or microwaved. Our nachos looked like an alien gave birth to them they had been life in the microwave so long. Underneath the shield of cheese was a pool of oil. It was disgusting with not a bean to be found. The salsa they serve is Pace picante sauce, processed and canned. My duck fajitas were hardly Mexican- they came pre cut on a plate, over cooked, and smothered in some kind of sweet sauce. It tasted like old liver, it honestly didn't taste like duck at all. It was mystery meat. The rice wasn't cooked all the way through and the burritos are just open faced tortillas smothered with Pace picante and microwaved cheese. It was soggy in a pool of water. Minturn Saloon takes the gold metal for the worst Mexican food EVER. These people should be ashamed of serving this food to people and charging as much as they do. We paid 260.00 for 6 people and one only ate nachos and the other was a vegetarian. Absolutely repulsive. This is not a restaurant. read more

Having skied the Minturn Mile more than a few times, I'm very acquainted with The Saloon in Minturn. Just had dinner there and boy oh boy, what a disappointment. First the good...the ribs really are worth ordering. And the saloon itself ranks in my top 10 most authentic in Colorado. The menu tells a great story about the history of the place, so why wouldn't The Saloon be worth a whirl? BECAUSE THE FOOD IS FREAKING AWFUL!! They must add sugar to the green chile, the $13 8 oz top shelf margarita is so bad I started giggling. The guacamole and queso were so bland we actually ordered chalula AND a fried jalapeño to try to make a go of it. This chef needs to get a grip or get a job at a retirement community. This great bar deserves better. read more

What makes this place good is the atmosphere and the chips and gaucamole. Beyond that the food is okay and the service is okay. This place is more about coming to meet friends, a place for having a few drinks and maybe, when your palate is destroyed a bit, eating something. Now given I did not eat any of the things that the waiter recommended...quail, ribs or duck, but I did have the arroz con pollo and it was uhhhhhhh interesting? Not exactly what I am used to, but okay. I made a meal out of it anyway. My son was funny too, when he got the kids nacho's he looked at it and said "It just looks like a bag of chips, where's the cheese?" At the end of the day, if you still have some energy, you can hike a bit and then back country ski down to the Minturn Saloon. What awaits is a cowboy meets Mexican (is that where the word Tex-Mex comes from?) apres ski. With good margaritas, some decent salsa and huge portions of some fine Mexican food, I can't really say enough about this place. It does get PACKED, so if you're coming here for dinner, be prepared to wait, which isn't so bad so long as you've got a beer or a margarita in your hand. Now, if you do choose to ski there yourself, I HIGHLY recommend you have someone else in your party go down the mountain and pick up a car and drive over to Minturn. If you've got no ride home, you're evening might not end on such a happy note. ;) read more

Howdy Partner! Step back in time at the Minturn Saloon with it's quirky, homey and crude decor and servers. Crude is not meant to be an insult, rather the decor and servers add to the environment. This place has enough character plus, some. The plank floors, signed movie star pictures on the wall, sun withered, long haired wait staff that have been with the restaurant for for 20+ years, enormous bull horns hanging-yep it's an experience. Now, the food is Mexican with an offering of thick and tasty barbecue as well- not exceptional, but with pitchers of beer or margaritas to wash it down the caliber goes way up. Try this place after a long day of skiing as the portions and the atmosphere is huge....bring along a bunch of rowdy friends-this place is not for the quiet or shy-and be ready for a good time. I really love this place. It just has that great Colorado Saloon feel. I could spend many a night here boozing it up if I lived in Minturn. It's a must see if you're in the Vail area or want to take a quick stop for lunch/dinner off of I-70. The food here has a focus on Mexican and despite what may seem counter intuitive to the Colorado tourist, the state has great Mexican food. The Saloon has a ton of tequilas to choose from and they make a good margarita. The service has been above par all times I've been there, with a friendly staff that engages you personally in some way. Tip: Order the quail & enchilada platter. Both the quail & the enchiladas are delicious and it's just so odd that they're paired together. For $17 it's a ton of food. read more

What a gem! My husband and I stumbled upon the Minturn Saloon because it was the closest restaurant to our hotel. Wow! I didn't think this eating experience was possible in these times. The wait folks were SO kind and caring. Dillon (Dylan?) was attentive, efficient, and nice. He recommended the fish tacos. By far the best I've eaten. Very fresh, skillfully prepared. The salsa the guac, the chips all so good. I thought it was strange to be asked if we had a reservation, in a bar, on a Monday night? Clearly this place is cherished. Everyone was enjoying themselves. Thank You Minturn Saloon! I think my experience tonight has possibly awakened some kind of hope that things are going to be OK. read more

Best place we've eaten in all vacation here in the Vail area. Lots of history and old time saloon feel. The food is unmatched!! The wings,ribs,and burger were all phenomenal. Down home good times will be had in this local watering hole off i-70. My boyfriend claimed their ribs were the best he's ever had. Granted, he's not a huge rib guy but he still knows a good meal when he eats one. My combo fajitas were fresh and delish and the plate was filling enough for two. My only complaint was the fried ice cream had no crunch. The waitress took it off the receipt saying we don't charge for food our customers are not 100% satisfied with.
