This was my first time going to Mint and I got my hair done by O'Neal. Before even getting the cut, O'Neal was very responsive and open during email exchanges as I changed my mind a few times about what exactly to do with my hair. She was also straightforward about what to expect as I am a brunette wanting some fairly blonde highlights. I ended up getting a good amount cut, added layers, and a full highlight (?) or some type of balayage, maybe? Not sure, but I love it nonetheless! Recently moved to the area and went for a much needed post-lockdown haircut. I found Mint Hair Studio and booked an appointment with Madison because she had an opening for when I had time. What a fortuitous booking! Madison gave me the best cut I think I've ever had. I have thick, unruly hair (and it was about two years in growing too). After showing her what I was thinking of for my hair, she took the time to explain what she was going to do to achieve my haircut. Usually, the hairstylist will cut the top too short so any sort of styling is virtually impossible (without poofing out and looking ridiculous). She expertly found the right length for the top of my head, taught me how to hide the pesky cowlick and what products I could buy that would help my hair look great. She even explained some chemistry to me about what causes a dry scalp and what can cancel it out. I also appreciated her extra care to stay clean in these COVID times. When applying some products to my hair after the cut, she used the end of a comb to gather the creams in her palm so she wasn't touching multiple heads and putting her hands in the cream all day. Overall, Madison was a treat to see, a joy to talk to, and I look forward to going back to get a trim soon. The highest of recommendations. read more

Review based solely on customer service and initial interaction. I'm new to the area and made an online appointment with Tava, based upon the countless good reviews here on yelp. It was easy to make the appointment, and even to reschedule it when I realized I double booked myself. The day of my appointment arrived and coming from Shoreline - I left at 9:30, but my maps gave me a 10:04 arrival - so, to be considerate [and because I sincerely didn't know how long it would take me] I decided to call and let them know I could possibly be 5 minutes late. [also, it was quite likely I would have been on time, just depending on traffic I'm assuming] Lauren answered the phone, and I said: 'Hello, I have a 10:00 with Tava - am I saying her name right?' Lauren responds curtly, 'Yes.' - Silence. I say: 'Ok, I wanted to call in and let her know I might be 5-10 minutes late' - Lauren's response: 'Ok. But if you're 15 minutes late she might have to reschedule you' - My response: 'What?' - enter my bewilderment. She went on to explain that she was 'just explaining the salon policy' - We went on to have a bit of a 'war of words' on the phone. I feel strongly if I'm going to a salon to spend $200+ I'd like to be treated nicely from the beginning. It's not the policies that I have trouble with, it's the delivery of the policies. Had her response been a little nicer and friendlier - I would have happily understood. I decided not to go, because I didn't want to spend my hard earned money on a business where the *owner* treats the customers like that. I'm sorry to Tava, and I felt bad - I'm sure she would have done a lovely job. Do I think my review should stop you from calling and booking? No. I think everyone has bad days. This is a beautiful salón! Very organized, welcoming and modern cozy! All the stations are clean- and everyone greets you as you come in Andrea was my stylist- she's asks what you hair goals are, listens and give advise before even starting. She looks at you hair, asks about your day to day hair cate and what you want- personally this is so important eso silly when you want to totally change you hair. We scheduled appointment and tried to call them almost every day since last month. I can't say anything about their work.. but customer service sucks! I have emailed the stylist, she never replied back. They never pick up the phone.. although they say you can leave a voicemail they would come back to you, they never call you back. I absolutely love how my hair turned out! I was looking for a salon closer to where I live, and found Mint. This was my first experience there and had booked Tara to cut a long bob from hair that was down to my chest. I informed her that I'm not well versed in anything hair-related besides a top knot, and that I greatly struggle with curling it. Before she began, Tara took the time to talk me through what length would suit me best, as well as the process and techniques she would use to give it more volume since I have thin hair. When she began styling my hair, she walked me through the process of how to use a straightener to curl it. I have yet to try it myself, but I'm very grateful for Tara taking the time to be certain I was happy with my haircut as well as giving me advice on how to curl. I'm typically somebody who doesn't really love getting my hair done and put it off for 6+ months. I have bounced around different salons and never been super happy with the results vs. cost, which continues my cycle of never getting my hair done. However, I think I've finally found my holy grail. I got a cut and full balayage with Ashlea this last Friday and have never been happier with my hair! The process took a while, but I felt really relaxed in the space. The blonde balayage is exactly what I was hoping for and turned out so similar to the inspiration photos I brought in. I got my haircut here back in May and had a great experience. After reading several reviews, I decided to book an appointment with Ashlea. My hair was pretty long, and I wanted to go shoulder length but was nervous. I've had a really bad haircut experience in the past when going from super long to short. I made sure to bring in pictures that showed what I wanted, and Ashlea helped me hone in on what I wanted my hair to look like. I would say this is the best haircut I've ever gotten, and the most satisfied I've felt after a haircut! To preface this I have long black asian hair that is coarse, unruly, and frizzy. I generally dread getting my hair cut as most people have no experience cutting my type of hair and try to overly thin out my hair (which makes my hair EXTRA frizzy from repeat experiences). I love love love my cut that O'Neal did! She took the time to understand what my hair goals and habits are (low maintenance and super lightweight hair products if any) to make sure I would be satisfied with the end result. After reading some stellar reviews about Mint Studio and Ashlea, I scheduled an appointment online a day after New Year's. Simple and easy to do it online. I rescheduled an hour earlier the night before and Ashlea was quick to respond which was great! When I went in, there was no one manning the 'reception' area; it looks like it is run by the salon specialists/barbers. Ashlea greeted me. The whole experience there was great; I got an asymmetrical cut. She was friendly, easy to talk to, and most importantly, open to my suggestions in terms of where I wanted my hair cut. She also provided me feedback as to how she would recommend cutting the hair on the back so it would not look slanted, but instead even to the shorter part of my hair. I got my bangs cut and hair texturized. Ashlea did an amazing job and I would go back to her again! Highly recommended given her services and open to feedback! Thank you! =) read more

I hate to leave such a scathing review, especially in the COVID 19 era, but it is months later and I'm still disappointed in my hair and my experience at a Mint. To start, I was looking to O'Neal to do my hair but she had no appointments available outside of my work schedule and her website said to email her and she can work something out. I emailed her and she asked for my work schedule (simple M-F 9-5) and after I gave it to her, I got no response. So I decided from there to book with Andrea because she had a later appt I could go to after work. I booked for a haircut plus the extra heat styling at the end. Andrea is a really cool person, if the review was solely based off her personality, it would be 5 stars. Unfortunately the hair cut was not what I wanted at all. Some pieces were un-even with some being longer than the others. At the end, she asked me if I wanted to get my hair straightened or curled and I paid extra for it so of course I said yes. She told me she had a trick to curl my hair in 5 minutes. She curled a few pieces on top and spread them out. All of the underneath part was straight. I partially blame myself because I'm one of those people who have a hard time telling someone when I feel like they've done a bad job on any service. You could shave my head bald and I'd tell you I love it then go home upset. I should've said something but you cant really bring hair back after its been chopped off. I haven't really worn my hair down since this happened. I wish Mint Hair Studio the best but I won't be back. I also want to add that Andrea did reach out to see how she could accommodate me which I appreciate. Unfortunately, this is something that I think will just take time. read more

My partner and I just had both of our haircuts here by Andrea and Lauren (respectively) and we could not be happier with the results! They were both so attentive to what we both wanted for our styles and preserving our hair lengths. The salon was so clean and bright. Ashlea deserves an award. I have a TON of hair. I do this thing where I count the number of clients the stylist next to me go through during the time it takes to deal with mine. The average is around 3. I've been told multiple times that I set record for the most hair by multiple stylists. So it usually takes me a long time, years sometimes, to find a stylist who has the technique and patience to deal with mine. Ashlea really took her time and was focused from beginning to end. I was thoroughly impressed. I also never give clear instructions, cause I'm decisive that way. So I went with whatever Ashlea recommended. It turned out wonderfully. I loved it from the beginning. I've been looking for an amazing salon in Seattle for a while now while still staying on budget. So I decided to Yelp the best salons in Seattle and found Tart and I immediately set up an appointment with Reagan after reading countless amazing reviews about her and the salon and for sure my experience was nothing short of it. I came in for a haircut and ombre highlights which took about 2.5 hours but Reagan's so easy to talk to that the time literally just flew by. Some stylists from a few higher end salons can be a little intrusive, and not to mention pushy about the products they're using on your hair, making the experience awkward and sometimes even unpleasant. But I'm so glad that Reagan wasn't; she didn't imply that I wanted to buy every cream or spray she was applying but when I did express interest she made sure to write down the name and brand of the product. I have been to Andrea a few times now, most recently yesterday to tame the wild mop my hair became after quarantine. She is the best stylist I have ever been to, both in terms of skill and amicability. The combination of my hair color and texture make styling difficult and I have had many a butchered cut. Light natural blond with hair so fine it's like straw, the amount of times I've left other salons and could see scissor lines straight across my head or dealt with a horrid boxy shape are sadly common. Thankfully I found my saving grace in Ballard! I never know exactly how to say what I want, just what I don't want or what hasn't worked before, meaning I give her little to go off of.
