Worst hair color experience with Olivia I had a very disappointing experience with Olivia. I was very clear before starting that the last time her twin colored my hair, I liked the shade and wanted it lighter or the same -- absolutely not darker. At the salon, when my hair was washed, I asked her if it looked dark. She said it was totally fine. I assumed the salon lighting or my eyesight might be misleading me. I didn't even ask for a blow-dry -- just a simple curl product -- but she spent less than a minute on it, which felt careless. Another red flag was that I asked her to color my eyebrows, yet at the end I noticed multiple color stains left on my face. She didn't mention them; I had to point them out myself and remove them. At the time, these issues were frustrating but manageable. The real problem became clear after I got home and washed my hair several times. My hair color is much darker than requested, and it's obvious the color was ruined. Looking back, I now believe she noticed the darkening issue but didn't acknowledge it. Fixing hair that's been colored too dark is not easy, and now I'm left dealing with the consequences of her mistake. Overall, this was a careless and unprofessional experience, and I would not recommend her for hair coloring. read more

Do not ever go to a hairdresser, even if she/he is at a high-end salon like BOCZ in downtown Seattle, if you have not been recommended to the stylist. Period. BOCZ'S hairdresser arrived late, was shown a photo of what the agency wanted before the morning's photoshoot 4 times, and confirmed she understood what was expected of her. I left the model to have her hair cut and styled at BOCZ, while I ran to Nordstrom's for some last minute accessories. When I returned to meet-up with the model at the hotel, and catch a Uber to the photoshoot, I found the model's hair had been literally destroyed, and that the hairdresser hadn't even tried to fix it, or style her hair with gels, sprays and a curling iron. It is incredible to me that one woman, supposedly in the business of making others look better, could intentionally destroy another woman's appearance, as I witnessed, and then for the hairdresser to send the victim away, and the salon, allow it! There is no other explanation for what this woman did. I immediately called the manager of the BOCZ salon and sent her pictures of the model before the session, the desired look, and the after cut. The manager immediately admitted the model's hair looked NOTHING like the picture that was presented to the stylist. The stylist gave her a "boy cut". She selfishly destroyed the model's hair. The salon manager offered me a $100 refund for the cut. The amount I paid for an expert cut and style, in advance with tip. The airfare for this photoshoot from New York was $900.00, hotel $450, the photoshoot itself was $600, the clothes were $2,000, the model was crying and her hair was ruined. I told them to keep their money. The model is crying to this day because as her hair grew out, it worsened. Her bangs stick straight out and are impossible to curl because of the texture of her hair. If I can save just one person from the expense, humiliation and degradation he/she will potentially experience at this salon, my job is done here. With hairdressers like this tolerated at this salon, I quite frankly cannot believe BOCZ Salon is still in operation. BOCZ Salon should have sent someone experienced to at least try to fix the mess on set, or at least style it, but the salon was not professional or decent enough to even try to do that. read more

I made an appointment with Andrea. I asked to cut bangs at eye level, also there was a request to blend the bangs with the rest of the hair so that there was a smooth transition. In the end, I received straight bangs much shorter than requested (above the eyebrows) and not a bit similar to the photo with an example. The length was cut off immediately during the process, making it impossible to fix anything. The bangs are also unevenly cut and the parting is crooked. I do not recommend this hairstylist. Now it will take time to grow bangs and fix everything. read more

If I could give Nanealani 10 stars I would. I've been going to see her now for the past 7/8 years. The first time I came to her I needed an updo for a fancy dinner event. I showed her the dress I was going to wear and she glammed me up! She even did my make up!! I felt so beautiful and felt like a Hollywood star getting ready for a red carpet event. I came back to her a few months later and decided to have her cut and color my hair and she did a fabulous job. Explaining my hair type to me and what she thought would look best for not only the shape of my face but the tone of my skin. Every time I go to see her I get so many compliments about my hair. Not only is she knowledgeable and amazing at her craft but she is so friendly and kind. Nanealani not only cares about your hair but she also cares about her clients. I called and asked for the price of a full foil and was quoted an amount and they said I would most likely need a toner too. I said okay and asked for the amount. I called twice to confirm. When I arrived the stylist ended up adding color instead of toner without letting me know. At the end she realized we didn't get the color I wanted and she said to come back to get it fixed. When I checked out I let them know I wasn't okay with it but I had to pay. I called to reschedule and asked for someone else. The second time ended up blonder than the first which is not what I wanted for my dark skin. I want to say both of the stylists are very nice they just didn't get the color I wanted I just don't like how management handled this. I would try to call and speak to the manager and no one would ever call me back. I finally emailed the owner and she offered to send me a check for what I have paid which I never received even with a follow up. Won't be coming back. I don't trust them! I love the two stylists they are so nice, I just think people need to be more respectful of peoples time and money. They aren't the only industry hurting in salary right now due to covid. read more

I say this because this man was: sullen Would not engage in a conversation except to ask if I saw a particular movie about a group of young bachelors ( really?) His personality just did not 'fit' in the hairdresser culture of: creativity enthusiasm A positive attitude When I went he scored really low in all categories. I felt this man was a really poor choice. He seemed to me mean underneath just barely tolerating his job. Something I wasn't accustomed to having been to various salons. He lacked proper profesionalism & just wasn't very friendly. All this for over 200 dollars! What a huge mistake. I live out of state now. Got a balayage by Emily, who was so sweet and really efficient! My hair came out great and it didn't take nearly as long as it usually does at other salons. Also the price point was shocking! Had an amazing men's haircut with Danielle! I was really happy with the whole experience I had recently getting a haircut at Bocz. If you haven't been before, prepare to be pampered. They give you a salon robe to wear while you get your haircut, which is a little new for me, but really convenient as I'm usually wearing a dress shirt. The whole staff seems friendly to guests as well as each other and you can tell it's a friendly work environment. I was most impressed with the attention that Danielle put into giving me a great haircut. She could help me bridge the gap between what I could communicate about my hair that I wanted to do and what she thought would be good. In the end, she put a lot of effort into my haircut and finishing touches. I can honestly say that it is one of the best haircuts I've ever received and will definitely be back. The salon itself is a little bit hidden, tucked in between and optical store and Marios on 6th avenue. You walk down a long hallway and up some stairs to get there. It's one of these classic downtown building and you can see some remnants of the workmanship in the building's ornate ceiling fixtures. There are nice changing rooms for you to put on your robe and the shampoo area for you hair is just okay. The waiting area is nice and I noticed they offered some people some tea while they waited. There are a gazillion fashion and decor magazines to choose from while you're waiting, but couldn't find a Sports Illustrated (no surprise there). read more

I went here for the first time after receiving a recommendation to see Jale Chan and I'm so glad I did. She listened to me about what I wanted to do with my hair and gave me the bangs I've been dying to have! Most stylists are eager to chop off my long hair, but she kept the length and complimented me on keeping it long. She was such a delight to talk to--funny, interesting, and very helpful when it came to what products to use for my specific hair. I would highly recommend seeing her and I can't wait to return to keep up this look! The salon is incredibly easy to get to, despite its downtown location. Still loving my hair from Sarah S. at Bocz Salon. I went in a couple months ago to get my hair freshened up for a trip to Bali at the end of August. I didn't really know what I wanted except maybe redo my balayage, which had grown out after a year or so. Sarah is a true professional. She has an impressive background, coming back from her time in New York doing high fashion hair. Anyways, I gave her little to no direction as I try to give the stylist a bit of freedom - but realize that sometimes you're rolling the dice. The only thing I remember saying is not too blond. Well the time went so quickly because Sarah is just a fun person to talk to! As she dried and styled my hair, I knew was in love with it already! It was exactly how I wanted it to look. She perfectly painted pieces of hair that framed my face nicely no matter where I parted my hair (I had told her where I usually part my hair in different places). I just wished that it was a Friday night so that I could go out and show it off! Still, I got a lot of compliments the next day at work. I am definitely going back to see Sarah again. I've decided to finally say something about all of the long nails that are epidemic in the hair industry. Last week I got my hair colored here and my stylist's nails were so long that she couldn't even wash my hair properly. She used her palms for a few seconds, and that was it for the shampoo portion. I don't even think she bothered with the conditioner. Gary Bocz needs to have an honest discussion with their staff about excessive nail length and how it interferes with performing a service that clients are paying for. The first time I went there I was impressed with shampoo experience (this is before my stylist got super long nails) -- it was a great shampoo and some massage involved. It reminded me of why I go to a downtown salon, because you get a little something extra. That experience was missing last week. The management should also decide what their signature bowl experience should be and educate their staff. This is the way a top salon stays on top! read more

This place was super hard to find! I didn't realize you had to enter the building and go upstairs in the elevator. Oops! Silly me. Anyways, I was in town and needed a blow out bad! My hair was gross and needed a double wash. They booked me with ANDREW and he had my hair feeling brand new, silky smooth in no time. Mind you my hair is thick and curly but I like to keep it blown out... however, people seem to find my hair really tough to work with. Not Andrew! He went through my hair in less than an hour with a smile on his face the whole time. He was also very pleasant to talk to and professional. If I lived in Seattle he'd be my go to. I cannot stress enough about how nice it was to go do your hair somewhere you do not know, and come out feeling like you made the right choice. I get anxiety letting people touch my curly fro. This is, hands down, the best salon I've ever been to (and staffed by the nicest, most genuine, least "affected" folks to boot! Bonus!!). I had a terrible experience colouring my own hair over the weekend (can you say "Eddie Munster-head"?). I read awesome reviews here on Yelp about this salon and, since I was downtown (on jury duty, oh joy! But got let out early), I stumbled inside, hoping to make an appt that weekend. The front desk was manned by Marc, who was the NICEST guy EVER, and he was able to work me into the schedule that very day. Being a Monday, the salon is only open until 1500 hrs, and is more casual and relaxed than other days. People can bring their dogs in. I met Leo, the cutest pooch, and others. I loved that! Kelley gave me a wonderful haircut, and Mark repaired my hair colour so deftly, I felt like a movie star. Everyone there was warm and friendly, without airs. I felt comfortable there immediately (this is in contrast to most salons which exude a hoity-toity kind of climate. It's hard to articulate, but I'm sure you all know what I mean). Loved it. I had an appointment with Tania this morning but it got canceled and I got rebooked with Andrea for a hair color. I had a consultation and told her I wanted my hair to be natural looking with not much color added. She wasn't really that friendly to start but I needed my hair colored so decided to go through with the service. I told her I wanted to keep the same style and color that I had going on and I did NOT want any red tones in my hair whatsoever. When my hair was done being colored - I could tell right away before my hair was even dry that it was reddish. Andrea said to wait until I was blown dry to judge it. Well I waited and told her I wasn't thrilled about it she responded with "everyone has a different aesthetic" and when I told her it had red tones she said "no it doesn't" when it very clearly did. I wasn't happy but I also didn't want her touching my hair again. I am VERY disappointed with this experience and definitely not going back to her. She didn't seem upset that I was pleased and didn't offer to help fix it. I will never recommend Andrea. read more

I came to see Nanealani for a haircut. I hadn't had a haircut for more than 5 months and I had a lot of split/dry ends. I told Nanealani that I would like her to cut off as much as she thinks is needed to remove my split ends. However, she only took off 0.5-1 inches and I ended up having a lot of split ends still left over (probably another 1-1.5 inches). She didn't wash or wet my hair before starting to cut and literally only took **1-2 minutes** to do my haircut. Then she spent the remaining 30-40 mins washing my hair and then blow drying it. While brushing my hair, she ran the brush at least 4 times over my ear. She seemed super distracted the entire time. Overall, I'm really disappointed. I've been to Bocz salon before and seen other stylists and I was happy with the service. Now I need to go and get a haircut again somewhere else. read more

I was going to be in town for a few days while my husband was working so I decided to treat myself. I have more and more (and more) gray hair, therefore I needed to have my hair professionally done for the first time. I scoured reviews and Bocz wasn't too far from where we were staying. After reading everything I got so excited to get in touch with them! As it was Sunday I emailed them and requested an appointment for the next week. A couple of days went by and no response. I called and the woman on the other end was quite curt and brusque. I began to second guess my choice and began to worry a bit. Too late to change it now! I showed up and was assigned to Dre. I showed her several different photos that I had picked out on Pinterest and together, with her input, came up with a wonderful cut, color and highlights! She was amazing. We talked in the beginning but when I got quiet she took my lead and worked silently. We could have talked the whole time or not at all and she would have made it seem like the most natural thing. Also, in the middle of everything, Aldera was able to squeeze me in to do my eyebrows. Perfect! All in all I had a wonderful experience and will not make it a one time thing! read more

I have done my research, or so I thought, and decided to go to Bocz Salon for my hair color needs. Unfortunately, I became the hair stylists therapist, hearing many unwanted PERSONAL stories, may I remind you it was my first visit. She changed my original plan of my hair color during the appointment and insisted with no bleach or lighteners. Truthfully I'm sure it was because she was very pregnant. And if this was the case she should have been professional enough to recommend another stylist within the salon to complete my look, that I paid $400 for. I thought I couldn't get out the door fast enough but then to turn around and be CHARGED for services that were not received. I thought is this a joke? Nope. The woman at the front was so nice and A little astounded at the price when she was listing the services and looking at my hair. She proceeded to tell me the stylist sets her own price. Overall the salon is nice but charging for procedures that weren't even completed in my opinion is just BAD BUSINESS. And a color melt for $400 is a JOKE! read more

I couldn't be more relieved to be walking out of a salon 100% satisfied. Moved to Seattle from LA about 6 months ago where I was going to the same hair artist for about 10 years. I have had issues with my difficult blonde hair in the past and was extremely nervous coming in and leaving with what I have envisioned in my head. Andrea talked to me about my hair history and told me what she thought was best (balayage) but also told me if I was more comfortable with foils (what I've been doing for years) that she'd be happy to do that. After learning more about balayage, we went with that. And I'm so incredibly glad we did. My hair looks amazing and healthy which is important to me. Really would recommend Andrea!! The salon is beautiful and professional. They have changing rooms for you to put on their salon robs and coat check. Although it is a bigger salon, it almost felt like I was the only one there. I went to see Kince based on Yelp reviews. I was exited to receive exceptional service. Unfortunately he wasn't good at all. First he called me to arrive later because he was running late but I was already on my way. I have long hair and needed a haircut. Since he was running late, he convinced me that it's better to cut my hair without washing it. So I didn't get a shampoo and he cut my hair dry. The haircut was bad. He didn't give me the new haircut feeling by not washing and cutting my hair properly. It was a bad first impression and I won't be back. read more

This salon is a classic busy yet trying-to-be trendy salon upstairs from an optical store downtown in Seattle. There are a ton of stylists here. My haircuts are good, no funny business. I get a pretty basic bob, but a lot of people can screw that up. My hair stylist is way younger than me, so she is always trying to get me to add more highlights, which my hair has a ton of now. One wears a robe to avoid messing up one's regular clothes, which is nice when I come from work but it is still hot and bulky to wear a robe plus a drape. The front desk staff is the typical distant staff type at edgy urban upscale salons; I'm sure after a year of getting my hair done there they still have no idea who I am. This isn't a salon where you will go in and people will remember you and know you; it is trying very hard to be modern and upscale. It has water and tea that sometimes someone will offer you, mostly not. The front staff are hit and miss with who will actually make huge efforts to make you feel welcome. There isn't anything that makes this salon stand out, nor do the staff go out of their way to make it stand out, which is fine if you don't want your socks knocked off. It does its business of ushering people in and out like a factory super well, and keeps its floors clean. My only real complaint is that there are dressing rooms, robes, tea and water, but they can't figure out a way to put a bathroom in the place? Traipsing out into the hall to the communal business bathroom with foils in one's hair can be a pain. I shouldn't drink so much tea... read more

I'm definitely a fan of Bocz, and an uber-fan of Kimber. I strolled in with the sole purpose of having Kimber do some color work for me. We had chatted about it at the EE a few days prior. I'm not a big "salon" person. Especially for color. I've done it myself since I was 12, and have never had an experience I couldn't repair myself. I've often had stylists not believe me because my hair is so healthy. I let my oldest daughter skip school that day already, it was an errands and "mom time" day, so she got to come with me. I rolled in in barely more than pajamas, no makeup, and unstraightened hair (which, with my current "growing it out cut", usually results in me appearing to be channeling Farrah Fawcett's ghost directly upon my head) Here was where I was impressed, the first: Not even a stray eyebrow from the staff or patrons at said appearance. The entire salon is well decorated, well appointed, and has just about every possible scenario covered for you, whether you are there for hair or spa or all of the offerings. i arrived my customary "early", so Michelle and I had a blast looking through the "look books". Kimber was fantastic. She let Michelle come back with us and gave her a spot to sit with prime viewing of "The Changing of the Mom". Within minutes, Michelle quipped, " She is my favorite of all your friends, mom". THAT is saying something. I love the color Kimber created. It's very similar to past colors I've done that I've loved. I'm still adjusting to it not being as "blonde" (for me) as it was, but I couldn't have been more pleased with having such a great lady perform her magic on me. In a few months when I'm itching for another big change, for the first time in my life, I'll toss my notions that there is no reason to pay someone else to do what I can do and gladly walk into a salon and into Kimber's capable hands. read more

Bocz deserves some more accolades! Carter Renee continues to make my hair color stand out with vitality and rich tones of red wine. And she is always so polite and listens to me jabber away with grace and ease. But I had to write an update to recognize the talents of my new stylist Juan. He had very big shoes to fill and he accomplished it. I gave him tons of random words without much of direction or what I was looking for (I prefer to give my stylist artistic freedom). What I got was a cut, that not only suits the frame of my face and compliments the texture of my hair, but is also chic and edgy. An asymmetrical cut, that looks great from every angle and creates a really cool line across the back, I get compliments galore ;-) This now brings me to Aldera! I might as well call her the eye brow master. From the first glace she can tell you exactly what you have to do to help her make your eye brows look their fullest and best. The right arch makes wonders for the shape of your eyes. She was very direct in telling me "stop touching your brows", and let her work her magic. Sure enough, 3-4 month into it and my brows never looked better. This is a skill and an art form ladies, you are in good hands with Aldera :-) In case you haven't noticed, I love Bocz, I see myself being a customer of a long time to come! read more

1st off- I will pay anything for a great cut and experience. I have uncolored, healthy, fine, thick hair, medium length, dark brown hair. Customer service sucks, expect to come here, be ignored and not pampered at all. An Australian accent at reception can ring you up with a smile (that's about all she's "in the mood" to do). Stylist Megan was very late, and does not know how to cut or dry hair. She offered that I could come back and get the cut fixed many times throughout my visit, what's up with that? Try to do a good job the first time, please. I don't know how this place stays in business. I was impressed by the downtown location and friend's recommendation- I was so wrong. I don't like supercuts but at least I know what to expect from them. No, thank you Bocz, I'm not impressed or happy- once you cut my hair off there is no chance to glue it back on. read more
