This was probably one of the most satisfying haircut experiences I've ever had. I saw Carlin on the recommendation of some good friends of mine, who've each been seeing her for the better part of a decade. Good sign! My hair had been badly brutalized seven months earlier by a chain salon, and I'd resigned myself to misery as the damage grew out. The first thing I noticed when Carlin started assessing my hair was the specific, almost mechanical details she noticed as she ran her fingers through it - she clearly knows the structure of hair, knows how it will react to this cut or that, and can accurately predict the outcome of each. I was immediately encouraged and confident that she could fix what the last stylist had done. And I was right - I'm happier with this haircut than I've been in years, and I finally feel cute again :) It even looks good when I "style" it myself (scare quotes because I can barely wield a blow dryer), not just when she did it in the salon, and I think that's the mark of a really skillful cut. Everyone go throw your money at Carlin! You won't be disappointed! read more

Becca was amazing !! I came in for a haircut and Becca killed it with my mullet and was such a good person to meet. Easy to talk to. I also enjoyed the other hair stylist in the store at the time. Seems like a good place, and I'll be coming back. The salon is very cute + full of many beautiful plants! read more

Salon Naoveau - Main floor of the salon - Hair Salons Near Me - Seattle, Washington

After a long time searching for a salon to get my haircut, I settled on Salon Naoveau and I'm very pleased with that choice. I had Becca cut and style my hair. They were so knowledgeable about the texture, thickness, etc to what would make a good cut for me. I wanted a shaggy mullet type cut and it was pulled off understanding my texture/curls. I've had friends and strangers stop to compliment the cut saying it really suits me, so I'll take that! Do yourself a favor and go to Becca for your textured hair needs and when you want a fun haircut! read more

Becca is AMAZING! Her knowledge about different hair types and textures is what keeps me going back. I've ignored my natural curl for so long and have never had a hair stylist teach me about my hair, Becca changed all that. My first cute with her, I got a shag with curtain bangs and she taught me a lot about my curls, enough so that I went in again and had them cut my hair to a shoulder-length a-line bob with room for my curls to hang naturally and not make me look like I'm wearing a football helmet. I'm elated to find a stylist who is personable and teaches me how to keep my hair healthy and natural! read more

Long story short: I went in uber excited and left highly disappointed :-/ I am not someone who often complains but my experience at Moxi is what inspired me to create a Yelp account to express my negative experience. I usually would just not return, but I spent $140 on my hair and deserved to have a good experience. I called and then saw the hair stylest who had helped me (Carlin) but she was not apologetic or helpful in anyway. I went to Moxi to have two shades of color added to my hair: purple and black ($75). She also trimmed my hair before the dye was added ($50) but there was no styling and hair was not even dried completely because she was late for another appointment. I spent $125 before tip and I left a with my hair untidy/unstyled, a shade of purple i didn't get to vote on, and with purple dye on my forehead and ears. Plus she had two hair apts overlapping mine which feels unprofessional at best. After my hair had dried, it became apparent that only the top part of my hair actually took the dye and the rest just appeared black. As I stated before, I called Carlin who stated that this was due to not being able to bleach out my hair evenly due to my past hair dye color. This was something she failed to mention to me during my time at Moxi. Her only assistance was offering me the leftover purple dye that she used from my hair. I asked for her to retouch it or something to make it look decent, but she said that I should give it time and the rest of the purple should start to show up. It's been four washings and that hasn't happened yet. My visit today she simply gave me the dye and shrugged again that it was the previous dye and that she "could do it again but my hair would fall out". I stated that I spent $140 and I expected it to look good but no empathy whatsoever. I will never return to Moxi, and I suggest not making an appointment with Carlin for anyone who plans on going. read more

Omg. I walked by here on my way to nue. My gf told me she was running late and I saw this place. I stopped and looked on yelp for reviews and decided to stop by. Thank the lawd above for letting me notice this place. I met Glynn and she cut my bangs really quick before I met my gf. World of difference I look so much more composed now! That and I was thinking of finding a stylist here. I've always cut my hair in LA but I think I may have found a keeper. Hopefully I can come back before my trip to get my hair cut and colored. This review is for Julia Lafferty. She is an amazingly talented hair stylist. An absolute magician for curly hair! Seriously. I drive 3 hrs to get my haircut from her, because I don't want to worry if my cut will turn out ok. I know it will!-- it ALWAYS does. For my first cut, i went from 12-15 inches of long hair to a short sassy, assymetric bob. It was so fun and light and felt so much healthier. She also does beautiful balayage work for me--looking natural and sun kissed. These photos are from the last visit where I wanted to try something new again, a side shave. I only trust Julia for risks with my hair. She nailed it! I love it. Go see Julia if you want to get the best haircuts of your life! read more

I've been toying with the idea of going to a new stylist now that I'm hanging out in Capitol Hill. One of my friends, whose cut I admired, suggested that I come to Heidi at Salon Moxi. It's a fun, friendly salon with a relaxed attitude. Don't forget to say hi to Luna, the salon dog. A couple of the stylists have some colorful hair, but don't let that put you off. It's part of the funky attitude, and I think it shows they want to have fun with their hair. When it comes to their clients, these ladies know what they're doing! Heidi took the time to consult with me on what I was looking for. She asked about my routine (air dry or blow dry), what products I use, offered length and volume suggestions for my face shape, and really got to know my hair before she even picked up the scissors. I must have gulped a bit as I saw hair flying around, and she calmed me down by saying this was part of giving me some more volume, which required a few more layers. She continued her Edward Scissorhands moves, and then checked to make sure the sides were even. Heidi applied a yummy-smelling styling cream from Kevin Murphy, told me about the product, but didn't put a hard-sell on me. She also offered that I could come back in 4-6 weeks for a free bang-trim to shape up the front. A reasonably priced cut, a free in-between trim - what a deal! I sauntered out of Moxi with an updated cut, swinging my new layers. I find that the true test of a good haircut is the first wash and style at home. Can you make it look good when you do it yourself? I'm pleased to say that my new cut makes it even easier to style my hair at home and I'm really happy with the additional layers that give me a lot more movement. Yep, it's a good haircut! Thank you Heidi! Moxi rocks! read more

I saw Glynn for a cut and ombré balayage, and couldn't haven't walked away happier! Glynn is sweet, fun to talk to, and has a great sassy sense of humor. Normally, I like to close my eyes and relax when getting my hair done, but Glynn is a hoot and we ended up chatting the whole time. Technically, I could tell that she has a lot of depth of knowledge in terms of coloring and hair care. She was able to recommend a high quality, organic shampoo/ conditioner combo at a price within my budget. Also, when I wasn't 100% happy with the balayage, she had me come back in a week later for her to touch it up, free of charge. All, in all Glynn, and Salon Moxi, are awesome! read more

I'll admit I chose to come here because there was a promo on CL to help Carlin along with building her client base. But a friend of mine who lives upstairs goes there too and loves it so that wasn't the only reason. One day, once I'm out of this grad school purgatory, I'll be able to afford a consistent hair dresser. And if I could choose such a person, I think I'd actually stick with Carlin. I had long overgrown layers and about 5" of hideous growth from highlights that were pretty light. She got my hair back to natural, gave me the cute purple streaks underneath that I wanted (in a great color that she suggested), and cut my hair perfectly. Layers trimmed, great textured ends, love it. So yeah definitely give Carlin a try. She's good! No pushing to sell products, no judgment made about the terrible state of my hair, none of that snooty stuff. My only disappointment is I didn't get to meet this salon dog, Luna, that I just read about. How cool is that to have a salon dog. I love dogs! read more

One word to describe Moxi: Love. Great atmosphere, an adorable dog and staff, great service, fair prices, amazing cuts and dyes... How could you not fall in love? Trista is amazing. I think I was being ripped off for years before I came here. I recommend her to everyone and their mom (literally) since she seems to be capable of every sort of style. My cuts and dyes also last MUCH longer than they used too, which makes it an even better deal. I would die a generic hair death without these people. read more

Over a year after my first review and I am still going to Trista! It's now a total of 2+ years she has taken care of my haircut needs. I love the salon and all the staff, plus Luna is as cute as can be. I had wanted my hair cut short (had hair past my shoulders) for a long time. But each time I discussed the idea with Trista, she felt I wasn't ready. I thank her for realizing that for me because I wasn't ready. But last November when I went in for my regular cut...I said I wanted it short and she finally agreed and said she thought it was about time! The cut was amazing and I was ready for it like she said. I seriously do not know what I would do without Trista. She keeps me looking like myself and feeling great about my hair! read more

I just want to reiterate that, over four years later, Heidi's the only person in Seattle who's cut my hair, and that is a statistic I hope to maintain, period. I've referred many others and everyone has been happy, and I've seen what appear to be many satisfied customers in the chairs next to mine. This is a great, small, personal salon. read more

When I first moved to Seattle years ago I had a hard time finding a new hair stylist. I bounced from place to place and couldn't find anyone that did a good job with my fine, limp hair. I stumbled upon Salon Moxi (thank you Yelp!!!) a couple years ago and I have been seeing Trista ever since. She really understands how to cut fine hair. I've also gotten color from her that was beautifully done. I think the prices are reasonable, and everyone who works there is really laid-back and nice. Definitely not salon snobs! I would totally recommend Salon Moxi to anyone. read more

Big fan of the Moxi ... these ladies have got the right idea ... funk, creativity, and service. Been a loyal client for 2 years+ now and haven't looked back post several debacles at other Seattle salons. Trista works with you to "get it right" and everybody here is super cool. I always look forward to my weekend cuts. read more

I've been getting my hair cut by Carlin at Salon Moxi and she always gives me the best cut for all seasons of hairstyles. I've had long hair, mid-length, a pixie-cut, a hip asymmetrical cut, and everything in between. Both my husband and I have been going to Salon Moxi for years! Heidi's been his stylist for at least 8 years, and she always gets his hair just right - short on the back, just a little longer up top for the wavy / curly hair. I've been seeing Carlin for about 3 years, and she does a great job with my asian hair. We do dark brown highlights that naturally lighten up a bit as they fade which look great year-round - easily extended with an all-over toner rather than having to lighten every appt. She also does a great long-layered cut that is easy for me to maintain by air-drying or styling for an evening out. Everyone at the salon is pretty chill, and I've seen all sorts of interesting hair cuts / styles, it's clear that they listen to what their clients want and can really deliver some amazing results! I also love all the products they use here - they never push them on you, but you will probably have a hard time going back to drugstore products when you feel how soft and amazing your hair feels! read more

I recently got a cut from Naomi (Ritual Alchemy Hair, now at Salon Moxi and formerly at Red X Hair Studio) and the whole thing was awesome! I feel like she really "got" what I was asking for (always the stressful part of getting your haircut for me), and she executed a great cut and style. I felt so refreshed and cute after! Naomi is one of those people who has so much Cool Energy, but she's easy to talk to. Definitely book with Ritual Alchemy Hair! read more

I had called the day before and booked my appointment with Carlin. The booking process was short and simple. I had never been there before and the receptionist picked Carlin for me. I got there 20 minutes early and Carlin was available so she sat me right away. She was personable without being too talkative. She asked me what I wanted and made sure that she understood what I was asking her to do. Overall, I'm happy with the haircut. There was a little issue with one side of the bangs being longer than the other. But Carlin told me she guaranteed her work and I could have went back and had her trim it if I wasn't happy with the cut. read more

I have been coming here for almost 2 years now and I have yet to leave unhappy. Carlin always listens to what I want and let's me know what she thinks. The salon itself is in a great location. I never have trouble parking and I hear there may be some updating of the interior. I get super excited to get my hair done every time I make an appointment. I have never been happier about my hair stylist. read more

I have been trying on several different salons for a few years now. I just could never find someone to really take the time to sit with me and figure out what cut/ color would work best for my hair type. Trista is amazing. Sofia is the best! I wish I didn't live thousands of miles away, because she is not only super skilled and creative, but she's kind and sweet. I saw her for a haircut and my daughter got a blow out and we both loved the result. This was the haircut/foil I kept going back to a local upscale chain for, but never really was heard. First try here & PERFECT!!! Finally compliments at the office ! Carlin is present and professional, with an intuitive flair w/o being hipper than thou... and best of all, at ease with neurotics like me. Great experience. Highly recommended. read more

I came in and saw Glynn to lighten my roots in between balayage appointments. It was my first time at Salon Moxi and I have to say, it was a very good salon experience. The vibe there is laid back and eclectic, with antique style frames and art. Glynn was great, she put me at ease right away- making sure to clarify exactly what I wanted. She wasn't rushed and it felt like she took extra care with my hair. The results were just what I wanted- perfectly blended roots. I would definitely come back! read more

Within a day of getting a haircut from Heidi I got engaged, won the lottery, and got an endorsement from Wheaties. I was in desperate need of a trim and wanted to try a new salon since my last salon stopped impressing me. I had a lot of split ends and wanted to bring some shape to my long hair without losing length. Heidi managed to bring some great layers and managed to cut a lot of my split ends without losing too much length. She was super pleasant and fun to talk to and I felt like she made sure to take the time to understand what I wanted. She also made sure to guarantee her work which is always reassuring. read more

So happy to have found Moxi Salon on Yelp. I scheduled an appointment online for the very next day on Moxis website. This is super convenient because I always decide to cut my hair on a whim and usually by the time my appointment comes up, I've changed my mind. Anyway, when I got there I didn't have to wait at all. She asked me a few questions about my hair and within just a few moments I could tell she knew exactly what I was going for. She made me feel very comfortable and relaxed. Some chit chat here and there but I didn't feel like I had to talk the whole time. Within 45 min my hair was washed, cut and styled to perfection. I've finally found a place that I will be returning to! Thanks Carlin!! read more

Amelia is awesome. She listened carefully and did exactly what I asked. I have naturally curly, greying hair which is difficult to color-correct because I have so much variation. Amelia helped me embrace my premature grey (so supportive!) and gave me multi toned highlights and lowlights that blend everything together seamlessly. If you are looking for a stylist who will help you embrace (not hide) your natural grey, Amelia is your person. Plus, she's got a cool personality :) read more

I went in to get my hair styled by Glynn and oh boy, did she take care of me. She made sure I was 100% comfortable the entire time, offering me drinks and consistently checking to make sure she wasn't hurting me in any way. By the time I left the salon I felt amazing. My hair was the softest it had ever been and I looked and felt glamourous. For a week after that I kept trying to recreate what she'd done but nope! She's a true pro. I plan on going back to her every time I need a haircut or color or anything. read more

I just want to say that I am SO stoked that I finally found an amazing hair dresser in Seattle!! I had a few meh hair experiences since I've lived here. No one did exactly what I asked for and over charged me quite a bit. I went to see Glynn at Salon Moxi and I gotta say she does some epic hair magic! I needed my roots touched up and wanted my blonde in my ombre brightened to a platinum... Glynn nailed it! Did exactly what I asked for and charged a bit less than the previous places I had tried. I am totally happy! I will definitely come back and tell some friends too! Thanks so much Glynn!! read more

Trista has been my hairstylist for over 2 years and I am happy she has settled in at Salon Moxi where her fellow stylists are just as talented and friendly as they come. I had a hard time "shopping" for a stylist that didn't give me the standard Gene Juarez soccer mom treatment, beleive me I have looked! So if you want fun, edgy and a lot of compliments I **HIGHLY** recommend Trista and Salon Moxi for your styling/coloring needs. read more

I decided to try Salon Moxi after being told by a stylist at the Red Chair that there was "nothing" she could do about my hair (it's very fine and wavy, which often turns into frizz!). I was still a bit skeptical about going to a salon, but from the get-go Salon Moxi was awesome. I was able to walk in without an appointment, was offered a plethora of beverages (including beer), and everyone was so friendly. The salon itself has a good vibe. My stylist was Jamie, and she was awesome! When I told her my Red Chair story she scoffed at the notion that nothing could be done and she worked with my hair to not only give me a great cut that suited my face well, but she handled the frizz! She was fantastic, not just shoving product at me or making a sell, but genuinely trying to get it right. She found me a product that would keep my curls nice and fresh without getting crunchy, and she gave me something that helps my flyaways (and continues to do so even AFTER I left the salon and style it myself) She even explained to me why my hair texture caused flyaways. Overall a great salon and I WILL be going back. I can't imagine going to anyone other than Jamie at this point. She was so welcoming and friendly and she really worked with me and listened to exactly what I was asking for. Salon Moxi is great! read more

Great atmosphere cool people but Heidi chopped my hair! The layers weren't even. I'm not sure I'll go back.

Wow! Found Moxie on CL and then checked all the lovely reviews here! Couldn't pass up the deal being offered to try one of the newer stylists, Carlin. I love trying to help people out, and have a generally easy going nature even if things didn't turn out right-but they did! Carlin was cute as a bug, and really took time with me, and was social in a good way (not like some stylists who are overly chatty but not quite interested in you, you know?) Jessica was helpful too, and Luna is too cute! But the hair-I am so pleased with my cut and coloring-Carlin did a great job finding the shades for me so I could try something a little different. I will be back (much like the terminator, but in a non-violent destroy the whole world type of way). read more

I've been going to Salon Moxi for years. Trista was great - I was growing my hair out and she gave me cuts that worked very well for months and allowed me to extend the tme between visits. She was fun to talk to and gave me some extra styling (that I wasn't expecting) one time when I had a show to attend after my appointment. Trista left a year ago and I've been going to Carlin and am now motivated to write a review. I think Carlin is the first stylist I've ever gone to who really, really gets what I want (both in cut and color) when I come in. She sees my hair not as a problem to overcome (which I've experienced a lot over the years), but an opportunity to be creative. When I want to do something off the beaten track she gets excited about it instead of trying to talk me out of it. She believes me when I say the color cannot be too bold, or when I'm specific in what I want, but she also adds her opinion of how to achieve what I want or makes suggestions based on what she knows. I heart Carlin! Everyone at Salon Moxi is super nice. The atmosphere is chill, the music is good, and the location is excellent. It's a bit pricey, but worth every penny. read more

Just a quick update. After a few years, I finally moved away from Seattle. My haircuts at Salon Moxi, and getting to chat with Heidi, will be among the things that I miss the most. Salon Moxi is a true boutique, and delivers truly-top notch service. In my years of haircuts there, I never had a single bad cut... In fact, I never had a cut that was anything less than perfect. Every time I went home and gave it a check, I was surprised at how thorough and professional Heidi is. I also should mention that all the people who work there are just plain cool people. You kind of start to feel a little bit like part of a family here. Even the little dog that greets you is very well socialized and fun to be around. Heidi was also very kind to write me a set of "instructions" to take to my future hairstylists as I move. I appreciate this a lot because she figured out how to make my hair work, and hopefully I can keep that going as time goes on (though I'm pretty sure nobody will ever be quite as good as Heidi :) Anyway, it's nice to see small businesses that are run right and who care about the customer's satisfaction, and these guys definitely get that. So, in short, the verdict after a few years worth of haircuts is still a major thumbs up for Salon Moxi. read more
