I made an appointment for 7/3/24. However the stylist booked it for 7/3/29. Very incompetent. I should have walked out. However, I was told that someone else could cut my hair. Sitting in someone's chair for a cut which was several inches and a mediocre blow out for 15 minutes.I have curly hair and requested someone that knows how to cut curly hair. I was then charged $100.00. Not ever going back. Cancel my appointment for November 1, 2024! read more

Brianne is a wonderful human being and is a great stylist. I hadn't seen Brianne for a while as she has cut back on her hours as she has grown her business. When I checked in with one of her junior stylist, she had time during a coloring session break so she offered a free deep conditioning and then to do my cut. I'm not typically an add on service kind of customer but my scalp and hair felt great during the treatment and my hair feels healthier and fuller than it has in years. I plan on doing that treatment a couple times a year. Anyway I know some folks have given this company poor ratings for their switching online booking platform but really that is a minor annoyance in the overall scheme of things. What a great local salon! Tastfully decorated with a resident dog and a great view of the neighborhood. But that isn't the best part. Jesse colored my hair back to it's 7th grade luster. He's been covering my gray for a few years now and his technique is so good that no one even knows I color it. Jesse also colors several more adventurous friends of mine and the results are always spectacular. He is very unassuming and really knows his stuff. This place is the most aggravating place to deal with. No matter how many times you tell them, they just don't care that their own website doesn't work for making appointments. As an alternative they provide a phone number to text for your appointment. Guess what, it too of course doesn't work or isn't answered. I'm not sure what the point is of offering anything other than calling in for appointments. If you walk in rather than making an appointment you are most likely to get a newer less experienced stylist that are still learning. Every time I leave I end up having to fix my fade. Every stylist seems to always be "coming in" or on their way for your appointment. What the hell is the point of making the appointment for a specific time? It seems to be a loosely managed operation. Very lackadaisical attitude to operating this business. I've been here 3 or 4 times, constantly trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, but it is always the same. Everyone seems to do their own thing. Im not sure why you would waist your time verifying my assessment when there are so many other places that you can go that are better managed. Oh, don't be surprised if you make an appointment for say 1pm and they enter it for 1:30. They make you hurry up and wait. It doesn't matter that you have things to do and there was a reason that you requested that specific time. Like I said, the most aggravating hair cut place I've ever dealt with and it's just not a one time experience that I'm basing my review on. Watch your fades. If you're cool gambling on your haircut, then this is the place for you. read more

One of the top 5 worst hair cuts ever. And since I am not young, they had lots of competition, for that role. I have a simple short cut, almost a typical male cut. She took my $55 in less than 25 minutes. Never showed me the back before I left the chair, which was very unusual as generally salon tech show you ASAP. I got home and everyone comment on the line from the movie "Steel Magnolia's" "It looks like a helmet" It was hideous. In my opinion which is YELP she didn't care about me and only wanted to charge me. This is such a bummer as I live full time in this neighborhood now and need a salon. read more

After growing out my hair for over a year, I chose Phillip to cut my hair. Huge mistake!! I asked for some light layers and a trim of no more than an inch. I left in tears. I ended up with layers as short as 2 inches from my scalp and more than 4 inches cut off the length. He did the entire cut in 15 minutes and seemed pleased with himself for doing it so quick. I did talk to the owner who tried to fix it but was actually laughing while combing through my hair and saying she couldn't believe how bad it was. read more

I - feeling guilty - deviated from my long-standing hairdresser to try out this place, since it is in my neighbourhood (and Greenwood, which is far for me). Shawn cut me hair, and remembered what terms I used to describe the cut I wanted, and delivered. Low-drama, and didn't try to sell me any products. Jesse did my highlights, and we didn't get it absolutely right the first time, so had me come back, pretty soon, and this time it was bang-on. No extra chanrge for the additional work and I love the colour. He also suggested I don't straighten it - which was refreshing, since it wouold have meant revenue for the salon - and I couldn't be more pleased that I tried RPS. read more

Beautifully decorated and well staffed, Rock Paper Scissors is the place to go for quality cut and color. I have not had my hair done in six years and needed a change in my life, so I opted to go to Rita for a trim and some ash highlights. The entire process took around four hours however it couldn't be more worth it. My hair looked and felt amazing and I have a new sense of confidence. I have been getting my nails done by Caity since June and I have been very pleased! First of all, she is a lovely young woman who is polite, kind, a great listener and always on time. Secondly, her space is quite lovely. She is in the back of the salon in a private room so you don't have all the salon action near you. It is comfortable, sanitary and relaxing. I also love that it's just you and her...no one else is around so you can talk (or not) comfortably. Finally, the quality of her work is good. I get gel mani's that actually last the full two weeks without peeling or chipping. She is organized & makes it easy to see the way colors look on you that's to her nail boards. I LLLLOOOVEEEE my hair and the people who work at RPS! Brianne has been with me from the time I was scared to cut my hair even 2 inches to introducing me to balayage!! She has cut both my hair (adult) and my son's (elementary school age kid) and was great at both. Her salon is in Madrona close to Cupcake Royale, so super convenient for the neighborhood. That's the first thing I look for.. and his personal style and impeccable good looks speak to the high level of work he does for his clients. He will carefully evaluate the condition of your hair and your desired goals. He has been fortunate to travel the world, which means he has worked with every hair type imaginable. I went here a few times and my experience got worse each time. The stylist I saw was not particularly friendly. The last haircut I got took less than 30 minutes (it felt like the stylist was rushing to get done) and it showed. I got home and the first time I styled it myself I could see how sloppy the cut was. After a few weeks, I went to have it fixed and ended up getting a cut that I didn't like and paying full price for it. I wanted to like this place but it just didn't work out for me. read more

Rita is an exceptional color artist. I recently relocated from the Bay Area where I had a stylist I trusted. Finding a new stylist wasn't easy, in fact it was something that brought me great anxiety. I talked to many before choosing Rita, who immediately put me at ease. It's very clear she knows what she's doing. My hair is long (finally, thanks to Rita!) and blonde. But I know her talent extends to all colors. She's also cut my 17 mo son's hair. RPS' kid shop is adorable and reasonable. Needless to say we are big fans. read more

She's a realistic stylist and will let you know if your magazine hair cut just might not flatter the shape of your face and what alternatives she recommends. I live in Leschi and was excited to try out a local salon! I was scheduled for a cut and color with Rachel. Upon sitting down in the chair and describing the color I was looking for she suggested that if I continue to grow my hair out that I don't need a cut right now. She did however make some suggestions for changing the cut if I wanted a different style but kept the length. With the color she again took note of my description and also made one suggested option. The color came out exactly as planned and I opted out on the cut. Rachel took extra time to style my hair and also demonstrate to me different ways I can style it on my own. My stylist at RPS was Jesse. I made an appointment after seeing an advertised special for a free cut with color in the Madrona newsletter. Unfortunately, after two appointments trying to get subtle highlights in my dark brown hair, I ended up with streaky blonde balayage. The first appointment yielded no discernible change in my hair color, the second the yellow streaks. Both appointments I made with Jesse were double booked and, I strongly suspect, the bleached hair was a result of the product being left in for too long because he was busy with another customer. To RPS's credit, I was not charged for the second appointment and was encouraged to come back a third time if I remained unsatisfied. I opted not to follow up on the offer and went to another salon to fix my hair. I won't be going here again. read more

This is a great little neighborhood salon. (There is also an adorable wine store right around the corner.) Brianne is super friendly and fun! My sister goes here to get her hair cut and we recently took my 4 year old niece to get a haircut and mani/pedi for her birthday. Brianne and Caity were incredibly patient with the wiggly toddler and made her feel special with balloons, streamers, and a cupcake. It really was amazing service! She knows how to cut a great pixie and knew immediately where the problems were in my existing cut that needed maintenance! She was quick and deft with her scissors, cutting precisely. Best haircut I have had in a while....easy to style, smart and trendy looking. She referred me to her colleague for color, as "she does the best work on your color". I really loved my experience here. I have 4C hair and Ana took great care for my hair! She explained the porosity, type of curl, what kind of oils I shouldn't use. Really liked that she took the time to get to know what I do to my hair so that her suggestions wouldn't be anything too hectic for someone who doesn't like to take long with hair. Amina has been cutting my hair for years. She's awesome. Sometimes, I tell her to just do what she thinks is best and I'm always pleased with the style. Both of my daughters also get their hair cut here with either Brianne or Darcie. They do fantastic jobs with both the teen's high maintenance color-and-cut wavy hair and with my younger daughter's super straight thick hair. Darcie also does a fantastic job waxing my eyebrows. Phillip Todd is the most amazing, talented, hair stylist in the Seattle area. Every six weeks we get our color on, and after every appointment, I am met with multiple compliments about my hair. The color he does for me is absolutely stunning!! I have very thick hair and many stylists won't blow dry but, Phillip never complains when it comes time to blow dry and style. My schedule is not a Monday through Friday, 8-5 schedule, and more often than not, I find myself reaching out to reschedule my appointment. I love that they're in an awesome, organic salon in Madrona, Kate is totally health minded (so expect them to be waterless and she's not going to butcher/trim your cuticles), full of cool options for nail art, stickers, glitter and finishes (I'm rocking matte red, which look nicely evil), a range of polishes both the usual amount of toxic and slightly less toxic. I have hand arthritis which can mean painful manicures - not a single moment of discomfort with Kate! Woohoo indeed! They are offering sculpted gel nails, too, and plan to feature this offering more as Kate trains. Sculpted gels are awesome and I'm excited to have them available in this comfortable, organic-leaning, unpretentious salon, with a talented nail artist at the helm.
