Shoutout Zyg! They did an amazing job on my cut and color, and were able to replicate exactly what I requested! I feel super refreshed, and have received tons of compliments on my hair. Much needed update! Also, I enjoyed our conversation and they are super friendly. Will definitely be back. read more

Halle was great at Rock Paper Scissors.! If I lived in Seattle I would have my hair done every week. Great experience booking, salon has great atmosphere and lots of plants. Halle is highly recommended! read more

She did exactly what we asked and great quality haircut! She's thoughtful, kind and talented.

I have been a client at Rock Paper Scissors for several years. I always look forward to coming in whether it's a refresh or a complete new look. Everyone from staff to the owners are friendly and knowledgeable. Staying in touch with their neighborhood and customers, they are provide much more to the community at large! If you are looking for a change or a new look for the holidays, I highly recommend this boutique salon. read more

Brianne is a wonderful human being and is a great stylist. I hadn't seen Brianne for a while as she has cut back on her hours as she has grown her business. When I checked in with one of her junior stylist, she had time during a coloring session break so she offered a free deep conditioning and then to do my cut. I'm not typically an add on service kind of customer but my scalp and hair felt great during the treatment and my hair feels healthier and fuller than it has in years. I plan on doing that treatment a couple times a year. Anyway I know some folks have given this company poor ratings for their switching online booking platform but really that is a minor annoyance in the overall scheme of things. I like supporting this local business and Brianne. read more

Rock Paper Scissors - Silky and fuller feeling hair - Hair Salons Near Me - Seattle, Washington

I made an appointment for 7/3/24. However the stylist booked it for 7/3/29. Very incompetent. I should have walked out. However, I was told that someone else could cut my hair. Sitting in someone's chair for a cut which was several inches and a mediocre blow out for 15 minutes.I have curly hair and requested someone that knows how to cut curly hair. I was then charged $100.00. Not ever going back. Cancel my appointment for November 1, 2024! read more

Ana helped me do the big chop, and was extremely kind and took my opinions into account. It was a drastic change for me but she was such a pro. She let me know if I need any adjustments after I style it myself at home I can come back to her. Thanks Ana!!!! Oh and my car was dead when I went to leave, and Brianne came out and jumped my car for me. Thank you a million, you saved me!! read more

What a great local salon! Tastfully decorated with a resident dog and a great view of the neighborhood. But that isn't the best part. Jesse colored my hair back to it's 7th grade luster. He's been covering my gray for a few years now and his technique is so good that no one even knows I color it. Jesse also colors several more adventurous friends of mine and the results are always spectacular. He is very unassuming and really knows his stuff. Visit Rock, Paper, Scissors for your dream color....then pick up a cupcake afterwards and the place down the street. read more

Great for last minute hair cuts, however the hair cut was a miss. While I'm sure Shawn is a skilled stylist for some hair types, curly hair is not among them. Sadly, listening to what the client wants is not his strong suit. At least not in this situation. Disappointed. read more

Rock Paper Scissors in Madrona is a great salon. Shawn cuts my hair and Michael does my color. They are both excellent and have been in the business a long time. Both very experienced. Give them a try. You will not be disappointed. read more

This place is the most aggravating place to deal with. No matter how many times you tell them, they just don't care that their own website doesn't work for making appointments. As an alternative they provide a phone number to text for your appointment. Guess what, it too of course doesn't work or isn't answered. I'm not sure what the point is of offering anything other than calling in for appointments. If you walk in rather than making an appointment you are most likely to get a newer less experienced stylist that are still learning. Every time I leave I end up having to fix my fade. Every stylist seems to always be "coming in" or on their way for your appointment. What the hell is the point of making the appointment for a specific time? It seems to be a loosely managed operation. Very lackadaisical attitude to operating this business. I've been here 3 or 4 times, constantly trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, but it is always the same. Everyone seems to do their own thing. Im not sure why you would waist your time verifying my assessment when there are so many other places that you can go that are better managed. Oh, don't be surprised if you make an appointment for say 1pm and they enter it for 1:30. They make you hurry up and wait. It doesn't matter that you have things to do and there was a reason that you requested that specific time. Like I said, the most aggravating hair cut place I've ever dealt with and it's just not a one time experience that I'm basing my review on. Watch your fades. If you're cool gambling on your haircut, then this is the place for you. read more

One of the top 5 worst hair cuts ever. And since I am not young, they had lots of competition, for that role. I have a simple short cut, almost a typical male cut. She took my $55 in less than 25 minutes. Never showed me the back before I left the chair, which was very unusual as generally salon tech show you ASAP. I got home and everyone comment on the line from the movie "Steel Magnolia's" "It looks like a helmet" It was hideous. In my opinion which is YELP she didn't care about me and only wanted to charge me. This is such a bummer as I live full time in this neighborhood now and need a salon. read more

Both times I've been here was an amazing experience. I just got my hair done and I love how it turned out. Phillip did an amazing job and everyone there is so amazingly friendly. Everyone there loved my new hair and commented on it. read more

After growing out my hair for over a year, I chose Phillip to cut my hair. Huge mistake!! I asked for some light layers and a trim of no more than an inch. I left in tears. I ended up with layers as short as 2 inches from my scalp and more than 4 inches cut off the length. He did the entire cut in 15 minutes and seemed pleased with himself for doing it so quick. I did talk to the owner who tried to fix it but was actually laughing while combing through my hair and saying she couldn't believe how bad it was. read more

Omg I love this place!!! Will be coming here again! First time getting highlights and Philip who I had was outstanding! So friendly and did an amazing job!!!! The other stylist were also very friendly (: the place is clean and looks great inside! Outstanding results. Never had a master stylist or any hair stylis hug me at the end and I really like it! Really felt like I connected with him which I don't feel happened at my other place andddd it's right up the hill from me (: read more

I have been seeing Miyoko for almost 20 years. I followed her to RPS & would follow her again if need be. She keeps my blonde looking amazing & and even reminds me when I need to come in if I don't prebook. (But super easy to do with the Vagaro app) Miyoko knows hair! Cut, color, product, you name it. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my hair! read more

I - feeling guilty - deviated from my long-standing hairdresser to try out this place, since it is in my neighbourhood (and Greenwood, which is far for me). Shawn cut me hair, and remembered what terms I used to describe the cut I wanted, and delivered. Low-drama, and didn't try to sell me any products. Jesse did my highlights, and we didn't get it absolutely right the first time, so had me come back, pretty soon, and this time it was bang-on. No extra chanrge for the additional work and I love the colour. He also suggested I don't straighten it - which was refreshing, since it wouold have meant revenue for the salon - and I couldn't be more pleased that I tried RPS. read more

I have been getting my nails done by Caity since June and I have been very pleased! First of all, she is a lovely young woman who is polite, kind, a great listener and always on time. Secondly, her space is quite lovely. She is in the back of the salon in a private room so you don't have all the salon action near you. It is comfortable, sanitary and relaxing. I also love that it's just you and her...no one else is around so you can talk (or not) comfortably. Finally, the quality of her work is good. I get gel mani's that actually last the full two weeks without peeling or chipping. She is organized & makes it easy to see the way colors look on you that's to her nail boards. Net net, I'm super happy and will keep coming back every two weeks! Thx Caity! read more

Beautifully decorated and well staffed, Rock Paper Scissors is the place to go for quality cut and color. I have not had my hair done in six years and needed a change in my life, so I opted to go to Rita for a trim and some ash highlights. The entire process took around four hours however it couldn't be more worth it. My hair looked and felt amazing and I have a new sense of confidence. The price is completely reasonable and I will definitely be making another appointment here. read more

I've been seeing Rachel here for a year or so for color and cut. She's really great. We tend to always do a deep conditioning treatment to my hair which always helps. I just really love this salon. It's filled with just really sweet people. read more

Brianne (the owner) is fantastic. She is upbeat, energetic, very flexible with scheduling appts and is always happy to see us. She has cut both my hair (adult) and my son's (elementary school age kid) and was great at both. Her salon is in Madrona close to Cupcake Royale, so super convenient for the neighborhood. She is great. The salon also offers mani/pedis, though I have yet to try one. read more

I LLLLOOOVEEEE my hair and the people who work at RPS! Brianne has been with me from the time I was scared to cut my hair even 2 inches to introducing me to balayage!! I leave that place feeling so FREAKING pretty. I was nervous to have someone else at RPC do anything to my hair, but Brianne insisted Rachel would do an amazing job with color. She was right! Rachel was amazing with color and I love my hair! Great price, fun fun FUN people and really quality! Brianne and Rachel are amazing ladies and all the peep there! read more

Phillip Todd! He's a gorgeous, kind hair-magician! Seriously, I've seen him for years and there's not enough room to type how phenomenal he is! Thank you *so much* Phillip! Phillip Todd is nothing short of amazing! I originally met him a few years ago, after I had thoroughly stalked him online and crushed over his movie star headshot. That's the first thing I look for.. and his personal style and impeccable good looks speak to the high level of work he does for his clients. He will carefully evaluate the condition of your hair and your desired goals. He has been fortunate to travel the world, which means he has worked with every hair type imaginable. Phillip has done literally everything to my hair. From brunette to blonde with a lot of rainbow colors on between! He has helped me grow out my hair, chopped it off, shaved cool designs into my head...there is literally nothing he can't do WELL. I used to be local but now drive 2 hours to see him because nothing else even comes close! read more

This place is a gem of a salon on Capital Hill and Phillip Todd is definitely one of the best stylists you'll ever trust with your hair.(I shouldn't be spilling the beans because I'll have to share him with more of you when you figure out how great he is). Simply put, Phillip is the ONLY stylist that when he asks what I want, I tell him I trust him to make my hair look great. Over the many years I've been seeing him, my hair has gone through many changes from short to long and several different colors. It always looks great and he is a master at picking just the right color and cut to keep the style looking fresh. The products Rock Paper Scissors uses smell great and keep my hair healthy too (and they're natural and local made). read more

I went here a few times and my experience got worse each time. The stylist I saw was not particularly friendly. The last haircut I got took less than 30 minutes (it felt like the stylist was rushing to get done) and it showed. I got home and the first time I styled it myself I could see how sloppy the cut was. After a few weeks, I went to have it fixed and ended up getting a cut that I didn't like and paying full price for it. I wanted to like this place but it just didn't work out for me. read more

Rita is an exceptional color artist. I recently relocated from the Bay Area where I had a stylist I trusted. Finding a new stylist wasn't easy, in fact it was something that brought me great anxiety. I talked to many before choosing Rita, who immediately put me at ease. It's very clear she knows what she's doing. My hair is long (finally, thanks to Rita!) and blonde. But I know her talent extends to all colors. She's also cut my 17 mo son's hair. RPS' kid shop is adorable and reasonable. Needless to say we are big fans. read more

My stylist at RPS was Jesse. I made an appointment after seeing an advertised special for a free cut with color in the Madrona newsletter. Unfortunately, after two appointments trying to get subtle highlights in my dark brown hair, I ended up with streaky blonde balayage. The first appointment yielded no discernible change in my hair color, the second the yellow streaks. Both appointments I made with Jesse were double booked and, I strongly suspect, the bleached hair was a result of the product being left in for too long because he was busy with another customer. To RPS's credit, I was not charged for the second appointment and was encouraged to come back a third time if I remained unsatisfied. I opted not to follow up on the offer and went to another salon to fix my hair. I won't be going here again. read more

There's no other place I'd get my hair done. Amina has been styling my hair for almost a decade now. I've gone from blonde to brunette to platinum, back to brunette, red, and more. She's a realistic stylist and will let you know if your magazine hair cut just might not flatter the shape of your face and what alternatives she recommends. I've had an epic clean bob, and long layers. Couldn't ask for a better stylist. read more

I love this place. The cuts are always amazing. I was not happy with a color job, so got a refund with many apologies. Will return!

Really happy with quality of service and friendly atmosphere. Got my hair bleached & dyed blue, and nails done to match, and was very pleased with the results. read more

I live in Leschi and was excited to try out a local salon! I was scheduled for a cut and color with Rachel. Upon sitting down in the chair and describing the color I was looking for she suggested that if I continue to grow my hair out that I don't need a cut right now. She did however make some suggestions for changing the cut if I wanted a different style but kept the length. With the color she again took note of my description and also made one suggested option. The color came out exactly as planned and I opted out on the cut. Rachel took extra time to style my hair and also demonstrate to me different ways I can style it on my own. I will head back in the future for a cut and color! Rachel has great attention to detail and excellent customer service skills. read more

This is a great little neighborhood salon. (There is also an adorable wine store right around the corner.) Brianne is super friendly and fun! My sister goes here to get her hair cut and we recently took my 4 year old niece to get a haircut and mani/pedi for her birthday. Brianne and Caity were incredibly patient with the wiggly toddler and made her feel special with balloons, streamers, and a cupcake. It really was amazing service! Since it's only a 5 minute drive from my work, I intend to be back soon for more manicures from Caity. read more

Needed to find a new hairdresser that can do cute short cuts. After reading some good reviews of RPS on Next Door, I made an appointment with Brianne, the owner. She knows how to cut a great pixie and knew immediately where the problems were in my existing cut that needed maintenance! She was quick and deft with her scissors, cutting precisely. Best haircut I have had in a while....easy to style, smart and trendy looking. She referred me to her colleague for color, as "she does the best work on your color". Will return for color and a trim in a few weeks and look forward to making this my new salon. Comfortable place, friendly people and great service. read more

I really loved my experience here. I have 4C hair and Ana took great care for my hair! She explained the porosity, type of curl, what kind of oils I shouldn't use. Really liked that she took the time to get to know what I do to my hair so that her suggestions wouldn't be anything too hectic for someone who doesn't like to take long with hair. I would definitely recommend Ana for those with tight curls. You will be in great hands! read more

I came to this hair salon on a rush. Moreover, I did not have time to make an appointment. Anyways, I showed up and asked if someone could take me in for a blow dry and wax. At first, the lady in the counter told me there's no appointment. After a few minutes, Brianne, another lady here, came and offered to get me ready in 15 minutes. She washed my her as fast and well done as she could and got me ready in 15 minutes. They used good products. I also got the wax done with another nice lady. Definitely, going back. read more

Phillip Todd is the most amazing, talented, hair stylist in the Seattle area. Every six weeks we get our color on, and after every appointment, I am met with multiple compliments about my hair. The color he does for me is absolutely stunning!! I have very thick hair and many stylists won't blow dry but, Phillip never complains when it comes time to blow dry and style. My schedule is not a Monday through Friday, 8-5 schedule, and more often than not, I find myself reaching out to reschedule my appointment. He has always, without question, been kind and accommodating with my requests. Thank you, Phillip. You're the best!!!! read more
