After having Rick cut (actual style quality), I would give six stars if allowed. Having been a professional my entire life and owning multiple businesses, I have a keen understanding of quality. Rick's shop is run professionally. I noticed the recent one-star reviews; it was evident to me that the person writing the reviews was attempting to sabotage the shop rather than enlighten future customers. Went here to get a line up. No one was in the shop, as I passed multiple times that day and it was always completely empty. I asked the guy can he give me a line he said he's not good with lines...he was also not really welcoming and to be in the service industry that's the minimum expectation. Came here in need of a fresh cut while on vacation and found this place to be wonderful. No appointment necessary, this place was perfect for my schedule. I loved the convenient location as well from where I was staying. Literally, was able to walk in and walk out. Got my head shaved with a beard trip. Perfect! Parking seems to be limited in front of the business, but you will find plenty parking nearby with structures or if you're lucky, you can find paralleled parking right in front. The gentleman that cut my hair was the owner of the business. An established barber shop since 1982, this place still stands. Must be doing something right! Rick is an absolutely incredible barber and in a class of his own in Seattle. Been coming here after moving up from Portland where I had an incredible barber and even higher standards. I tried a few of the high end shops in the city once I loved, but was still left disappointed. That all changed once I went to 5th Ave and got a haircut / beard fade by Rick. Did an impeccable job and had a great eye for detail. Been going back once a week for a Head Shave ever since. Well first of all, this hair salon has the worst lights ever, the lights are so dim and dull, that you cant see your hair properly. Now during my haircut I felt it looked fine, but once I was back to my place, I was able to see a-lot of mistakes. The most basic thing is to cut hair around the ear in a nice shape, and guess what, he ruined that part, it loos so disgusting. Some hair looks short and some look large, it looks completely messy and frustrating. Seriously how can you cut somebody's hair in a light like that, I couldn't even see that you were making mistakes. I just ruined my day coming here, paid around 50$ for -a 20 min haircut which made me look much worse than before. read more

What a wonderful experience. I am from out of town and was here for a wedding. I wanted to get a proper shave and I was having trouble finding a place that does an old school straight razor shave. This barbershop was recommended by concierge at my hotel and let's just say it did not disappoint. From the first moment you walk in you feel welcome. The owner is genuine and really takes time to connect with his customers. He did a great job giving me proper head and face shave. This is a review based on two visits to 5th Avenue Barber Shop. I've had two haircuts here. The first time I walked in and a young woman cut my hair immediately. She seemed to be the only person working that day and she was just finishing with a customer. She asked how I wanted my hair cut. She didn't seem to be put off by the fact it had been months since I had a cut. She just proceeded to the job at hand. To my delight, she didn't engage in a lot of small talk chit-chat. While getting a haircut, I like to relax without having to tell my rather boring life story. In a little less than half an hour, she was done. I really liked the cut. The second visit I also walked in. It was a little busier. There were two men working. I think one was the owner. The other barber asked if I could return in 30 minutes. I had a couple of errands to run. So, this worked well for me. In a half an hour, I returned. He was soon finished with his other client and ready to cut my hair. From this point on, it was pretty much like my first visit. He focused on cutting my hair and did a great job. The cost is $30 for a no-frills haircut. For me, this is a great place to get a haircut. The staff is friendly and professional without being intrusive. They go about their work in a very straightforward manner. The shop is clean and neat. With the leather chairs, it has a feel of a living room. Most importantly, they provide a great haircut. read more

I thoroughly investigated over 3 barbershops when I first moved to Belltown. Figured I should play the field before tying myself down to one barber for the foreseeable future. This was the last place I checked out, mostly because I was really satisfied with my experience. When you know, you know. You know? Anyways, the location is convenient and the decor makes me feel at ease. My barber is a great conversationalist and actually goes beyond facial interest, which really makes the experience more enjoyable. Overall the staff is friendly and very good at making you feel appreciated as a customer. Most importantly, I'm always pleased with my haircut. I'm kind of terrible at describing what I envision my hair looking like (If only I could rock the Zangief), but they seem to pick up on it anyways. I have been completely satisfied with the results of my haircuts here every single time. I travel a lot to major cities in the West Coast and one of the more important tasks in my to-do list is to find the best barbershop in the area, as getting a fine haircut in a fine setting elevates a gentleman's grooming experience under the hands of a master haircutter. I base my barbershop selection mainly on its crew's physical appearance and hair presentation (as I believe that one person is inclined to groom another in a manner similar to how he/she grooms himself/herself), in the kind of clientele the salon attracts (as I believe that the type of gentlemen getting groomed in a salon speaks volumes re the salon's reputation in the community), and in the salon's 'feel' (as I believe getting a haircut in a fine setting, as I stated earlier, elevates the experience). All these criteria are met, even exceeded, by the 5th Ave Barber & Salon in Seattle, Washington. In the past, I mostly allowed men to cut my hair because I believed a man knew better how to groom another. But, after having my hair cut with grace and precision by a well-mannered lady barber named Dee Phan at the 5th Ave Barber & Salon, let me just say that that belief had been proven wrong. I scheduled a hot straight razor shave for my boyfriend a week and a half in advance only to be canceled on literally 3 hours before the appointment. Granted it was because the person doing the shave just got out of the hospital, but that means they only have one person to do this. They wouldn't even schedule this before 12:30 because the guy had to have time to wake up. Anyway, this was supposed to be for my boyfriend's birthday and part of a day-long plan. So much for surprises! If you want a place that will follow through with their appointments or at least have a backup, this is not the place to go. Tried to go for a walk-in haircut today at 4:30. I walked in, asked if there was anyone available to cut my hair, and was told "We don't do women's hair." When I explained that I am, in fact, a man, the proprietor told me that they would be closing soon and to try booking an appointment online. It should be noted that the sign on the door clearly stated that they close at 7:00pm today. The level of blatant disrespect here convinced me that I should take my business elsewhere. Definitely not a trans-friendly business, and anyone who wants decent service from someone who takes pride in their profession should look elsewhere. read more
