Walked in for my appointment and wasn't greeted. When I said awkwardly said hello, staff seemed confused about who I was. My would be barber was still with another client and told me I was "a little early," even though I arrived 10 minutes before my scheduled appointment. He then admitted he was behind after being told he now had two clients waiting for him at the same time, and tried to hand me off to someone else who actually wasn't available. After that, no apology, no estimate, no plan--just awkward silence. I canceled. I'm sure they do great work, but the communication and concern could have been greatly improved. read more

I'm extremely picky and critical of who cuts my hair, so this was a huge leap in faith to come here this morning. This is one of the best haircuts I've ever had and from the coolest barber I've yet to encounter. It didn't take long to realize how detail oriented she is and that she cares what you'll look like leaving her seat. Phil did a nice job with my haircut. I like that you can book online. The first time I entered the store, I was not sure I was cool enough to get my haircut here. It worked out just fine. This review is long overdue. I recently moved from the Bay Area to Seattle about 8 months ago. I had a regular barber there who did a good job. I was legit stressed out trying to find a barber here. I've had bad experiences with super cuts and other barbers. After vetting all the barbershop in the area, I chose this one. I booked an appointment with Phil and I have been going to him ever since. I go about once a month and he is always on point and the best. I have thick, coarse, Filipino hair which is hard to manage and some barbers get intimidated. I told Phil how I wanted it cut and how I typically style it, and he knew what to do. Great job all the time and thankful I found this place. Walking by Sal's shop after dinner I noticed there was a $10 special for cuts between 8 and 10 am. Great news since i live nearby and walk downtown to work every day. It got even better when I found out I could book on line. Sitting at Rudy's or wherever with 3-10 other people in front of you in line is always a buzz kill when all you want is to walk in, get a cut and walk away. Booking it on line was easy and i knew that time slot was mine. Oh, and then Phil was friendly in a professional way and gave a great haircut. So two other ways for Phil to exceed expectations than just giving a great haircut, a great discount and a way to reserve on line so I don't have to wait in line and waste time like a lot of other barbershops that don't take formal reservations. I was really stoked when I walked in, I loved the vibe, and had checked the reviews and saw nothing but praises. Being an out of towner, I thought it might of been a bit risky to get a hair cut while traveling, but this seemed like a sure shot. I don't remember the name of the lady who cut my hair, but she didn't listen to a thing I asked for, maybe this is one of those barber shop that specialized in 1 type of haircut, but all of my requests were ignored. First off, I asked for a low fade, the fade was just about the highest it could of been, well above forehead level. Second, I asked to take very little off the top and she took off about 2 inches, which was a drastic change for the length of my hair. Third, she cut my hair assuming I would gel it in a very specific way, I never use gel, never have never will, after I told her I would never wear it like that she kept going, and gelled my hair. I wouldn't mind that if I could actually wear the hair style she gave me without gel, but it was horrible, I've had to wear a hat since, even at work. I know hair grows back out, but when you spend the money for a provided service, and the person just sees it their way and assumes they know better, it's a recipe for disaster. read more

There isn't much more to it than this: great haircut, great conversation. I got my hair cut by Phil today and I am very pleased with it. He did a great job and asked me lots of clarifying questions about what I wanted, which made me feel confident that we wanted to give me the haircut I wanted. He had lots of interesting things to say and made the 30 minute haircut go by fast. The snippets of conversation I heard around me made me think that the other customers were enjoying their cuts too. I was able to pay with my credit card, which I usually don't expect in small barber shops. I really liked their online reservation system too. It was super easy to make an appointment and the prices were very clear. Great place, this will be my new default for haircuts! read more

DO NOT GO HERE! This has been the worst experience at a haircut in my entire life. The barber, seemed interested in only talking to his co-workers/ buddies. I asked him to give me a 2 on the sides but because they face you away from the mirror, I had no idea what length he was giving me. However instead of seeing a 2, I saw nothing. Completely shaven on the sides with long hair on top was a horrific job to say the least. "I'll see around bro!" No, you will not. read more

I went to Sal's as a walk in and was greeted immediately. A friendly barber named Jamie was available and started to work her magic. The price was $20, she did a great job. The place was loud, she had a space heater at her station so it was not cold. The chairs are a little old fashioned so it gives it a bit of charm, but I did feel bad that she had to pivot the chair from time to time to move me around, which I don't believe would be an easy task. This was the 2nd time I had my haircut by Jaime. The first time was great, I was really happy with it. The 2nd time it was like she wasn't even really there, she kept saying that I wanted a 'business' haircut whatever the hell that is. I told her I just want a scissor cut. I ended up with it cut high around one ear and the other ear was cut low with uneven sideburns with my head looking like I had a haircut with hedge trimmers. I wasn't facing the mirror so I couldn't see what she was doing 90% of the time. Her job is hard, I get that I really do. I think I caught her on a bad day or maybe I waited to long between haircuts I dunno. Not sure I'll be back it all felt really off she wasn't really 'there'. Gave her a great tip though read more

Sal's is my go-to barber shop for over the past year or two. I get my haircut every 4-6 weeks by Colter. He does an excellent job with both the clippers and scissors. In the beginning I went to other shops in capitol hill, beacon hill, and u district but I became a regular at Sal's because of consistency. My fades and tapers are always on point. Colter is able to dial into the details of a cut which is very much appreciated. He's always packed with his schedule so make sure you call ahead of time if you want to book an appointment with him. I'm not going anywhere else for a haircut any time soon. read more
