Best haircut I've had in ages from a supremely awesome barber, Francisco. He was ready to leave for the day, but when he heard that another barber canceled my appointment at the last minute he dropped everything and cut my hair. And took time. Not rushed. He was great to talk with -- we discussed travel and food. And when I got home my wife was impressed with my cut. I'd recommend this barbershop and, in particular, Francisco to anyone. One of the best barber experiences I've had in a while. I was out in Seattle for a wedding last weekend and needed a cleanup for my hair. I booked an appointment with David a couple of days in advance before I arrived in town. Squire Barbershop itself is very nice and put together. The decorations are vintage, which I appreciate, and there are a lot of books dedicated to the craft of barbering as well as barbershops of the US. My appointment was scheduled for 11:45 AM. When I arrived , David was wrapping up with a customer so I waited for a few minutes and looked at some of the books that they had around. My haircut / beard trim experience was fantastic. David is a meticulous artist when it comes to barbering - he trimmed my beard freehand which I thought was very impressive and he did a very good job cleaning up the sides and back of my hair. While giving the haircut, he and I had a lot of good conversation about all sorts of stuff (life, mythology, you name it). I found it very entertaining and really appreciated the at he talked during the cut. If I ever move to Seattle, I know where and who I'll be going to for sure. I made an appointment online to see Francisco. Paid for the haircut and a tip. Showed up on the arranged day and time and waited for 20 minutes. No Francisco. Finally one of the other barbers asked me who I was waiting for. When I told them, the other barber contacted F (by phone, I think). F told that barber that he had contacted me to reschedule. I received no such message by any of email, text, or voice mail. I would not recommend to anyone that they use this shop. read more

Let me say I am a female from 3 states away and know nothing about beards and shaving. My Father was hospitalized and mentioned his beard was so long. (I have never in my 55 years seen stubble on his face) I worked with a staff member of the hospital to locate someone who could get him a shave. Calvin is the most amazing person who not only volunteered but headed to the hospital that very day and was able to get my father to feeling absolutely dapper from a fresh shave. As someone with Asian hair that grows straight out and bad cowlicks, I was apprehensive about having to look for a new barber. But Erick did a great job, helping me change my hairstyle from a side part to a textured crop. He did a really great job on the shape and worked with the direction of my hair to help the cowlicks lay down. I also have really straight hair that tends to be really flat, but he was able to achieve great texture on the top. Gave a great fade, too. I don't like sound a whining bitch, but this is something I must share as this is the first time I've been treated this way by a business. I recently moved to Seattle and was looking for a good barbershop near my place. Thought this would be good choice because of all the good reviews, but based on my experience today, they apparently do not welcome me as a guest. I didn't make an appointment since on Yelp it says they "accept walk-ins whenever (they) can". When I walked in, there were two guys eating snacks over the counter, and two other barbers cutting hairs for other customers. There were no other customers in line, but two kids playing in the waiting area. The place is spacious, so I didn't approach anyone but chose to sit on the sofa instead, hoping someone would talk to me when they were free. The two guys did have eye contact with me when I entered, but somehow decided to ignore me, and went out to get lunch instead. When they were back, we had eye contact again, they still didn't talk to me, or even ask why was I here. I have never been to a barbershop more badass than this that people don't even bother talk to you. If you cannot do my haircut, fine, just let me know. If you do not accept walk-ins, fine, I'll walk away. I did walk away after waiting for five minutes, but felt humiliated for being completed ignored, so I went back and confronted them. I first asked do they accept only appointments, they said "generally yes". Then I asked why didn't they tell me that, they gave excuses like "we do ask our customers to check in first" (which I didn't see any sign about it on the door I walked in), "we don't have a reception", and "you can always talk to us". Then I said, "if you don't want to cut my hair, just let me know", their response was: "well, we certainly aren't for everyone". There you go! Sorry for being a beardless Asian that doesn't fit your aesthetic pursuant of nice hair to cut, but it would be appreciated if you could spare your precious time to at least tell me: "Sorry, sir. We only take customers with appointments". At least that was nice to hear. -- @David, thanks for the reply. But had you admitted you had some misleading information on your yelp page (see attached screenshot, I got it from cached Google search, but it was actually pretty easy to find on the mobile app), and not edited the page instead, I will actually feel bad about myself and delete this review and move on. I may be wrong to assume I were discriminated, be it race or any other factors, but the fact that your barbers didn't even bother talking to a customer walks in at least proves they do not care enough to accommodate potential new customers. I get that everyone needs a lunch break and I'm OK with waiting for more minutes or come back later----and make an appointment if needed. But is it really too hard to ask "do you have an appointment" when people walk in? It is simply false that your barbers didn't see me. We had eye contact for two times! And no, I don't think it was verbally abuse to express my frustration of being ignored by asking "why don't you talk to me?". However, after reading your reply, I had some reflection and do feel sorry for losing my temper and judging your staff too fast. Apologies for making a scene and I agree I shouldn't be so confrontational when communicate my frustration. Discrimination should not be the first thing jumps into my head as I believe Seattle is better than this, but please try to understand how it feels when you believe (be it legitimate or not) that someone intentionally ignores you multiple times. read more

Made an appointment before coming up. Squire was not far from where I was staying. I was looking pretty ratty and well, since I'm on vacation, might as well take advantage of it and my trip. SBS was highly rated on Yelp so might as well go with the best. I arrived just before my my time and Andrew was just getting settled. Asked what I wanted and just told him short and something hip and cool. She: If you're looking for something new, hip and cool....you've come to the right guy. Great endorsement from who I believe was his girlfriend. Andrew took his time and we had a great conversation at the same time. The thing I liked the most was that he didn't face me toward the mirror at all, so when he was done, voila...a new person was looking back at me. I felt like a new man! So much so, on my way home, I got the flirty hello from the girl at DeLaurenti, and a flirty wink from the guy at the cash register....LOL! I feel any one of the barbers at SBS are great! If you want a particular barber, make an appt, because they are always busy. The new location, across the street from NiteLite, is right around the corner from the old one. This would be a 5 star shop to me if the booking website had more information on which Haircut meant what and what price each is. I see 3+ haircut options and didn't really know what to choose, the price I paid was $3 higher than the website (website only says all regular cuts are $32). Two things you don't do, drink bad wine and go to a bad barbershop. I looked far and wide before settling down on a barbershop, and for the last 15 months, I've had no regrets. These guys are good! They seem to have good rapport among them, play a wide variety of music, so it's likely that you'll hear something you like, and unlike women's parlors/spas, they don't seem interested in your sex life. I'm not big on small talk so I appreciate the lack of chatter while being worked on. Andrew is my go to guy, but he seems to be one of the most popular too. I've had sessions with Eric, and once with Rachel, the only female barber working there, and they both did good. I've a beard (for a man living in Seattle, it'd be weird not to have facial hair), and like how Andrew takes his time until he is happy with the work he has done. I show high level of commitment and ethics for my job, so I definitely appreciate seeing someone else do the same. They have an online appointment system that works, but isn't the most sophisticated in the world. If you're canceling an appointment, I recommend picking up the phone. I also recommend that you book your appointment well in advance; I can't count how many times I saw someone walk in and leave disappointed hearing that there was no spot for the rest of the day. Service at the Squire doesn't come cheap like the run-of-the-mill at some franchise, but you get what you pay for. As of this writing, a haircut, beard trim with tips would set you about $50 light. The only downside that's not their problem at all but I'd be damned if I didn't say, is parking. There are couple of lots around, but on a weekend, an hour or more could cost you around $20. Ouch!
