I have never been as satisfied from a barber before (which sounds like a pretty high compliment for a haircut but I mean it). I told her that I was not actually really sure what to do with my hair since it has always been a bit of a mess and hard to deal with so I asked for recommendations. She felt the way my hair stood, found the cowlicks, and let me know what she recommended. It sounded pretty good so I told her to go for it and 20 minutes later I was not disappointed. Most barbers I will need to tell them to touch it up in different ways or keep going but the moment she turned me around I was satisfied. In addition to this, it is just a really cool place in general. Everyone seems to be really laid back and friendly, talking to each other like they have been friends for a long time. People will just come in and put their drinks in the mini fridge there and there is even an Xbox there (though nobody was playing it so I am betting it is for when it gets slow). This place is in capital hill which is way out of the way for me, but I don't think I will go anywhere else from here on out. read more

This weekend my boyfriend obliged my desire to treat him like a real-life Ken doll and let me take him to a black barbershop for the first time! Since this was his first time going to a black barbershop, I took the lead and made his appointment with barber and shop owner Glen Charles. He'd been growing out his hair and beard for the appointment, and it proved a great canvas for Glen to work his magic. Seattle Barber is a dope shop located in the heart of Seattle's Capitol Hill Neighborhood and caters to ALL hair types. What impressed me most, besides Glen's skill as a barber, was the diversity in his shop. I saw a White, Black and Asian barber (not including Glen) and his clientele reflected that same diversity. It's really cool to see a shop that mirrors the diversity of the neighborhood it's located in, as well as being able to offer men of all backgrounds a great cut. Literally ANYONE can walk in and trust that Seattle Barber is equipped to handle their hair type. I know this isn't the biggest issue for my boyfriend (he's white), but as a black woman I know the struggle of having to call around and see if a salon can do your hair. With the constant stream of transplants moving into the city, it's nice to know Seattle Barber can take care of you. Funny Story: While my bf was getting his hair cut, someone called the shop and asked Glen if they could cut black hair. He chuckled before saying yes. Listen folks. The struggle is real for people of color. Cuts range between $23 to $28 with beard services being an extra $5. Walk-ins are accepted, but let's keep it real -- you're better off making an appointment with the barber of your choice. Zeyra is extremely talented. Not only did she cut my hair above expectations, but she was extremely accommodating. She is flexible with her schedule and willing to come in/stay late to accommodate my work schedule. She made sure that I was comfortable throughout the haircut. She asked several questions to ensure that the haircut was up to my standards and was completed the way that I wanted it. She kept me engaged the entire time and spoke to me throughout the haircut. Her lines are sharp and she used a razor to give me the final touch that I needed. As a black male, it's not always easy to find a barber that I am happy with. I enjoy the vibe of the whole shop itself. The guys are always cracking jokes which makes the time fly and the music ranges from hip-hop to reggaeton which is exactly my niche. Zeyra in particular is my new go to barber. She is extremely talented when it comes to fading and always asks before trying something new. I have come to her expecting an average haircut and am blown away with how well they turn out. She has a keen eye for that looks appealing and works with you to nail down your look. If I could give them "0" I would. I have been growing my hair out for over 5 months. Walk in just to get a small trim with everything the same length. Guy gives me some trendy fade that was nowhere near what I suggested. Sides are down to a buzz cut. I was very articulate on what I wanted but he failed to LISTEN to anything I said. The killer thing for me is that it is so drastically different from when I walked in. As a stylist would you ask someone before you completely change their look. Just absolutely terrible experience. They offered a free cut but that isn't the issue. I'd have gladly paid for something remotely close to what I asked. I will not return. read more

At first I got discouraged because it seemed like no one was going to cut my hair after the one worker that was supposed to do it just walked out saying something about checking his car but it took him forever to come back . Average haircut the first time, awful haircut the second time. Besides the fact my haircut started 20 minutes late, barbers are checking phones every 4 minutes in the middle of your haircut, they messed up my hairline SO BAD.
