I read her reviews... checked out their website and made an appointment for the same day. I showed up as scheduled and was welcomed into a very hip Shop. Julie is very nice, friendly and has been doing this for years. I sat in her chair and explained to Julie how I use to get my haircut and wanted something low maintenance and easy. I also wanted to hear thoughts and ideas. She gave me some ideas and I told her she could have at it. Did I mention that she even served me a beer while all this is going on... I had her turn my chair so I couldn't see what she was doing and I got to people watch out the window. All I got to say was... WOW!!! I was amazed and excited that I had a new look and I landed me a new place to get my hair cut. She also allows you to go back for FREE Cleanups. Julie thank you very much... I will see you soon. I've been a client for over 30 years and the great service, attention to detail, care and quality of my cuts and color are what keep me being a beyond loyal client. Sherri has seen me through every faze of my life and was there to style me on my most important day, my wedding. 9 years later, I still look forward to every single appointment and the hours we get to spend together. I truly believe the reason why I'm able to have such long, (bleached) blonde hair is because of the care Sherri gives me and my hair and the information she gives to me, for how to care for it @ home.

It's come to this: the Colman Building Barbershop is the only place I'll get my hair cut anymore…read more I've had cheap haircuts and I've had expensive ones. Robby's shop falls somewhere in the middle, price-wise, but his work and his partner Madison's are consistently at the top of the list when I get out of the chair and get a look at what they've done. There's never that awkward "oh no, what am I going to do with this?" moment when you see it for the first time. Simply put, their cuts look fabulous, every time. As experiences go, the Colman Barbershop is fun and relaxing. You can go expecting funny adult conversation with a racy edge to it, classic rock on the stereo, a comfortable old-school barbershop chair to sit in, and a phone that rings like a phone, not an electronic tweet. Robby and Madison not only deliver a great cut, they have genuine fun chatting with you and with each other while you're there. And men? Go with the knowledge that you're not quite done when your hair is done. You've got a rare treat in store before you're all the way finished, a back-of-the-neck shave with warm shaving cream and a straight razor, followed up with a warm wet towel. It's a delight for the senses not to be missed, and it feels fantastic afterwards. So. It comes to this: get thee to the Colman Building Barbershop for 45 minutes of entertaining downtime, for good music, for a little nostalgia, and most importantly, for the best haircut you'll ever have. Call me picky, but I won't settle for anything less.

As part of my ongoing quest for perfect soft shiny hair, I visited Minx Designs on a blustery…read morespring day for a Brazilian Blowout. It's important, I have discovered, to get the brand-name treatment. Some off-brand keratin treatments tend to wash out quickly, and it's too long and hot of a process to go through for temporarily straight hair. It's also important, I have learned, to find a stylist who can execute it properly. I have tried to do the Brazilian Blowout on myself, but my hair is much longer and thicker than my patience. Third in importance is getting it done in a beautiful environment, while sipping on sparkling water and chatting about fashion, books, home decor and life with an incredibly interesting and warm person -- who also happens to be great with your hair, even if hers is naturally straight. Lani delivered on all points and more. As others have mentioned, her jewelbox of a salon is simply gorgeous, and the Queen Anne location is peaceful and convenient (easy street parking and close to a bus line). I arrived about 20 minutes early but Lani and her sweet dog, Stella, welcomed me in, and we got started on the 2+ hour procedure after a brief consultation. I did not know this, but Brazilian Blowouts can be adjusted depending on effect desired. The new Brazilian Blowout formula is also less stinky than it was in the past. There is a chemical scent that's unavoidable, but they've managed to tweak the formula so that it's more or less masked while leaving a lingering flowery smell that doesn't get in the way. Lani also tells me that Brazilian Blowout also offers a treatment for split ends, which a lot of people appreciate when they're trying to grow out a short cut. Lani did an an excellent job filling me in on the latest in Brazilian Blowout news, answering my questions and making me feel very comfortable in the chair. This is as she was applying her super-meticulous eye -- and touch -- to my out of control long hair. I couldn't be happier with it, and the long hot hours flew by.
