Great, effortlessly cool barber shop in Pioneer Square. This is what most hipster shops aspire to but can't be because they're not these guys. They're good at what they do, they're not fussy, they can hold a good conversation and do great work. And the price is good too. It's in Pioneer Square so maybe not the best area for most people to commute to but it's on Yesler which isn't half bad. My experience here was horrible I had Chris cut my hair and asked for a 8 on top and mid fade and he couldn't even do that right. Been getting a razor fade for about 10yrs now. Read reviews about how exceptional and how smooth they leave you however that wasn't the case or my experience here today. They paired me with a "barber" who doesn't know how to use a straight edge which was not his fault but the person booking the appointments. Then I also was scheduled to have my beard trimmed and he made me lift my head back without any support while he took his time to shape my beard. Was hoping the fade at the end would've at least look pretty decent but I was wrong! It was the worse cut I've had! You can literally see the lines! I just wanted to pay and get out of there! To top it off it wasn't cheap and will now have to go somewhere else and have someone fix it!!! I did not experience a barbershop feel was like I was getting my haircut by someone from A Super Cuts! ***UPATE*** Was surprised to get a call from the establishment only a few hours after my original post. They offered to correct my haircut at no additional charge and were super apologetic. I went in the next day and the barber they paired me with this time did a phenomenal job. I was finally able to experience what everyone on Yelp had been raving about. Although it was a mere 24hrs since my hair was cut, he took the time to correct and blend my fade just right just as if I hadn't been cut the day prior. The owner came and thanked me for coming back and allowing them to correct my cut. This establishment went above and beyond to correct my cut and make sure that I was a happy customer. Switching it up to a recurring appt every other week because my beard needs it. Definitely still my top recommendation for Seattles best haircut. Right down in Pioneer Square lies maybe the best barber shop in the Pacific Northwest. Voted Best of Western Washington in 2017 and Seattle Best Barbershop 2016, it's no wonder why I've experienced the best service, hair cut, and beard trim I've ever had. My go-to barber is Christopher Michael - he's a hidden gem in the Seattle barber scene! He's absolutely fantastic to work with, cares about his work, and pays the utmost attention to detail. You can tell he's a pro from the minute you sit down and the consultation begins. Christopher is happy to cut your hair however you want, but where he really shines is when you give him a little creative freedom and let him create a style that works perfect for your head shape and hair type! He works with you and it is truly an experience to go receive a hair cut from him. On top of this, the shop is clean, well-maintained, and you can tell that EVERY barber knows what they are doing - no chumps here! The last point I want to make - is that Chris can trim a beard like I haven't seen before. I should have known this place would switch up the stylist last minute upon my husbands arrival, just like some other reviewers stated. I booked an appointment online last week for my husband and chose a specific stylist for a reason. Surprise, he comes in today and receives a mediocre haircut from a random stylist they assigned to him last minute. Don't go here if you want professionalism, because this business has a looooot to learn when it comes to proper business practice and etiquette. What they SHOULD have done was given me a call, and told me the situation and to rebook with that stylist for another day OR go with the stylist of their choice and keep my current appointment. But no, they just assign you to a stylist of their choice and update you an hour before via text that you may or may not see in time. To whoever owns this salon, please don't do this to another customer. Some people book specific stylists for a reason, because maybe they just want a haircut with THAT stylist and not someone else. You can't just switch up the stylist last minute and think that's ok. You don't do that in the professional salon world. Train your receptionists to call the client ahead of time when someone gets sick or has an emergency or accident, whatever! This is not cool, even if you give the client a 20% off coupon for NEXT time. What a joke. read more

As for someone that has never had a different barber for the past decade, moving into seattle I always had a fear of a bad haircut to go through. Searching rigorously on yelp to narrow down who to trust with my hair... I found Millheads! Their online appointment system is real easy. They have all of their barbers on their page with reviews on their work. I so happen to find that Christopher Michael had peaked my interest with the reviews on his work with fading and texture. Upon arriving you enter into the vintage world of a true barbershop. Everywhere you look it has a homey kind of feel while also staying true to the roots of a barbershop. The front desk was very friendly and greeted my upon arrival while assisting me with checking in. Rolling into the haircut, Christopher is a man of perfection. I had not mention anything about where my hair naturally parts and a bump on the back of my head that I keep forgetting about. Conversations and the vibe was by far the most chill I've ever had with any other barber. Didn't feel awkward at all. Up to the end of the cut I always prepare for when barbers use the blade to clean up your line up. I DEFINITELY did not expect Christopher to have such a soft touch using the blade that I couldn't thank him enough for not cutting me up by accident! In the finished product Christopher ended with a fresh clean style using a pomade that will make you want to smell your hair all day long. So if you're looking for a precise, clean cut, with a vintage and homey kind of vibe, Millheads is your place to go to. Hands down the best barbershop in Seattle in my opinion. I had a really uncomfortable experience at Millheads a couple of months ago- my only experience there has been with Kale, who pushed on my head and jerked my head around during the haircut without any verbal directives about what he would like me to do. I didn't know how to interrupt him to indicate that I was uncomfortable, but he also never checked in with me about how things were going. He spent the time talking about skate parks and doing mushrooms in high school. He can do what he likes in his free time, but it felt like an extension of a general disregard of my presence and comfort. The haircut itself was fine. In general, Millheads might be a more comfortable experience for men, but if you're a woman or gender non-conforming person, I would encourage you not to frequent Millheads. I went and looked at their stylists and decided to book an appointment with Penelope. Penelope did NOT disappoint. She was one of the best people I have ever had work on my hair!!!! We took the ferry down today for a Mens Cut with Daniel. First of all, we were so surprised by the convenience of the location! Just minutes away from the ferry, and a short walking distance from the $3/ hr garage and Starbucks, Millhead in our mind is located at a prime location. The staff, all professional and knowledgeable in the art of cutting hair, AND of the city, made our day planning much easier! Awesome shop that was really easy to get to thanks to the directions they send out prior to your appointment. They gave a suggestion for a parking garage that was only 3$/hr which was very helpful. So...At risk of sounding a little pretentious, I want to give a short backstory. I moved to Seattle from Miami where I went to a phenomenal hair studio that was well known in the industry. I typically get a zero fade and have fairly coarse hair making it difficult to remove the lines. Coming to Seattle I was worried about finding a good stylist and then fate stepped in!!! I was walking down the street one day looking into a local barber shop and I connected eyes with someone I would come to know as Ally. She waved me into her shop and asked if I needed a cut. Skeptical, but enamored with her positive vibe, I aquiesced her request and got a cut. Giving my number, she recognized the 305 area code and excitedly asks, "are you from Miami?!". Of course I too became excited and said, "uh, yeah!". I sat down and was hooked from there! My fade was flawless! She was professional and placed a razor straight part, per my request! Recognizing the need to take facial structure into consideration, she has made great recommendations for hair alterations to accentuate my natural features! The best part...I was paying over $70 in Miami and she provides a better cut and experience for half the price!!! She is highly recommended and I have sent many of my friends with the same results!!! Three+ years later, and I'm still a very happy client. I have fairly short hair and come here every 5 weeks or so, so I've probably had somewhere over 30 cuts at this point. I appreciate the easy online booking via the Vagaro app, I like the products they carry (I use the Kevin Murphy medium hold green box), and most of all I love my haircut. I look forward to getting a haircut with Paul, and I always walk out of here with a spring in my step feeling happy and more confident. I'm racking my brain trying to thing of ANY criticism, and the only thing that comes to mind is that once or twice I've had to wait a few minutes while Paul finishes up with another client. Anytime that's happened, he's apologized (though I suspect earlier clients showing up late is what caused the short delay), and I don't get any sense he's rushing through my cut as a result. Went there two weeks ago for a hair cut and a basic make over. I've had grown out my hair for about 5 years and wanted something new these days. I asked Daniel to be my barber and appointment time I even had brought my dog there. Even though I had to wait there 20 minutes extra to get started, I'd say, it was due to that busy day. I have explained what my wants and opinion to Daniel and he has given his constructive feedback. After about 45 minutes, I didn't like the end look much, he has changed it a bit and final look was great. My girlfriend was there and she loved it as well as I did. Overall it took about little over an hour but it was well worth the time and the higher price that I paid comparing to other barbershops. It was a great experience. read more

Rarely do I feel the need to write a bad review. Checked them out under the impression that because they had won some best of Seattle reward they should be great right? I was wrong. Nothing fancy about them. Amateurs. First experience: Customer service really lacks. Waited awkwardly up front as no one greeted me and had a booked appointment at a specific time. Waited a half hour after appointment before I finally saw the stylist. Thought they were experienced barbers but they didn't know how to razor fade and almost wasnt able to switch me to someone that could. So spent more time waiting to get my hair cut. I was late to my meeting. And this screwed with my day timing wise.... 2.5 hours just for a haircut.... Second experience: out of desperation I decided to try them again.... BIG MISTAKE! Scheduled to see "the owner" in hopes I'd get a better result. Still waited 20 min past my booked time. All I can say is I didn't leave with a perfect fade and I'm disappointed. I asked again for a bald fade again and left with a line all around my head that should've been blended out. It's been a few days since.... still terrible haircut. Almost tempted to just buzz it off. I took a job working in Pioneer Square earlier this year and so I've been trying out some of the mens barbershops in the area, trying to find one that I can regularly go to and know I'm going to get a good cut. Millheads just might be that location. A few things that jumped out at me that I'll point out here. 1) When you walk in, it just has that old school barbershop feel...being in Pioneer Square certainly doesn't hurt it's case for that. 2) While not the most business-ey (if that makes sense), the people that I encountered were very nice, if not slightly strange. I walked in, was checked in and sat that as it looked like my barber was out the lunch. I started my service with an eyebrow wax (sorry, can't remember her name) and she was very nice and quick in her services and that was great. Kale was my barber and something I really liked about him (which others may find annoying) is that he does not talk much. Some people enjoy conversation when they are getting their hair cut, I do not so this was cool for me. I sat down in the chair and talked with him for a minute or two about what I was wanting to do and then that was about it. The haircut was great. I went ahead and paid for a face shave because who doesn't like to do that once in a while? If you haven't done it, do it...you don't know what you're missing. Sure I can do it myself but it's simply not the same. That service was very relaxing and Kale did a great job there as well. He did nick me once but whatever, not a big deal---it happens. All in all, the service/the people/the music/the location are all a hit with me. The cashier guy ended up giving me 20% off my face shave service since I didn't actually get my whole face shaved but rather a cleanup and slight trim. If I could recommend one thing to the owner that I've noticed other barbershops in Seattle offer, would be this: Offer a face shave service for those with beards that is maybe 20-25% off the normal price. Right now, it looks like a service was offered for a clipper beard trim for $10 and then the full face shave for $36 (I think that is what it was). There is nothing special about the clipper beard trim as I can easily do that at home myself and it doesn't really bring any special treatment to it. The straight razor shave and detailing is what I like but I typically only have a cleanup/jawline done and that's it. So I'm not sure if I will pay $36 for it every time I come in but if there was an in between service offered for those who don't want the full face shave, then I think I could see myself scheduling that each time I come in. All in all, GREAT place to get a haircut and I will certainly be back for AT LEAST that. Thanks! read more
