Haircut is very uneven. Process was rushed. I asked for a fade, and for my hair to be even length on the top. The barber ignored my instructions 2 or three times. He cut the right side on the top way shorter than the left, and sloppily and unevenly at that. May need a buzz cut now to even out my hair. read more

You pay for what you get for. My hair cut was good but beard was a nightmare. The line up underneath my jaw was terrible. The barber did not use any shaving cream and my face got a rash. BEST BARBER SHOP EVER! After my visit today I have officially decided that this is my new barber shop of choice! I recently moved to the UW area and was searching for a new barber shop that could do a clean fade and wasn't super expensive. When I arrived I noticed there was a ton of people sitting in the waiting area so I almost decided to go somewhere else, but after only about 2 minutes of waiting they called my name. M.J. Was very friendly and funny. He worked very quickly and efficiently and the ceramic blade on his clippers made it feel amazing. At the end he even did some finishing touches with the straight razor! It's been a few months since I've started going to Tight Cuts. I can say, without a doubt, my hair cut has always come out excellent and consistent. I've dabbled in quite a few different barbershops throughout my 4+ years living in Seattle, and the haircuts here are way above your regular barber and at a reasonable price. Keep in mind it's a cash only establishment ($30, but don't forget to tip your barber). Staff is friendly and quick, but they don't sacrifice quality for their speed. Hasim does an excellent job and remembers my haircuts. I haven't been cut by the other barbers, but from observation, they all do a great job. I'd highly recommend checking them out! read more

While it may be slightly more expensive than some of the other shops on the Ave, it's definitely worth it and all the barbers there really know what they're doing. MJ and Yasin are the best. Hands down. I've been coming here for 3 years now and I don't know what I'm gonna do if one of them leaves. They both learn about the same customers and consult each other on what the customer wants. I don't even tell them what I want anymore. I just sit in the chair and let them do whatever they want. That kind of trust is 1) hard to find in a barber 2) has a lot of value. MJ has told me he goes to conferences for hair cutting and is always working on his skills. Dude's probably gonna cut hair for celebrities one day, so come in here before that happens. Another review mentioned here said that the guy's friend partially wants to come back to Washington for the haircut, I completely believe that. Also I have white guy hair and I've heard Asian hair is pretty different and hard to find a good barber for. Usually, I'm quite skeptical of most barbershops, as my hair isn't the easiest to cut by any means, so i've had my fair share of sub-par haircuts. So of course I had my doubts when coming to Tight Cuts. I mean, haircuts are pretty important. It's one of the first things people notice about you when they meet you. But after getting my hair cut here, all my preconceived doubts disappeared. My hair used to be nothing to note, but after getting my hair cut here, I've gotten more complements about my hair in the span of a couple weeks than I had in the rest of my life, combined. In addition to being very skilled barbers who are obviously good at their craft, the customer service and friendliness I've experienced here has also been incredible. The barbers have no problem sparking up friendly conversation and cracking occasional, good-hearted jokes. Overall, my experience at Tight Cuts falls nothing short of excellent, and as long as I'm in Seattle, this will be my go-to spot for haircuts. MJ is my guy, and Yasin is a close second. I've been coming here for 3 years since I came to UW and Tight Cuts is definitely the best place I've tried. University Ave Barbershop screwed up my hair for the worst haircut I've ever gotten, and the HUB is just mediocre. I'm willing to pay a bit more for a haircut, especially if it's decent. I can't be walking out in public with an embarrassing haircut and waiting a month for it to grow back! MJ's customer service is by far some of the best I've ever experienced. Since I've been coming here for years now, he's gotten to know me and what I like, so I don't even need to tell him what I want, unless it's different from my usual. A combination of clippers and his friendly personality keeps me coming back. MJ and Yasin are willing to stay way past "closing" (7 pm) until all people have been treated, I've even been there at 9 pm as one of the last people. Just recently, I showed up before opening (11 am) at 10:30 after class, hoping to avoid lines. MJ gladly welcomed me in before opening hours. Even though prices have gone up from $15 to $20 to $25 since I first started coming to Tight Cuts, I don't trust anyone else in the U-District, and even back home, with my hair. Because service is so good, waits can get up to 2 hours long. Wait times are unpredictable, and they only take walk-ins and cash. Sometimes there will be no wait when I expect there to be, and a 2 hour wait on a Friday night. However, they do give free candy, water, and have iPhone and Android chargers for your wait. I've gotten haircuts here before. The owner is really nice, he's very welcoming and skilled in this field, the other barbers I've seen, not so much. I just recently got my haircut from them about 2 weeks ago and I was absoulutely disappointed. Was nothing like what I asked for and I could tell the barber knew he messed up. I specifically asked for a messy mullet and brought pictures for reference. I even pointed out that I did not want my hair in the back cut and instead I got what seems to be a high fade with multiple bald patches. I spent about 5 months growing my hair out for this cut and it all went to waste. I don't suggest wasting your time getting a cut here if its not from the owner. read more

I used to get that every time I sat down to get a trim, but then I started going to tight cuts. MJ always hooks it up with the best haircut I've ever had. Each time I come in it feels like I could not get a better cut, then next time I go he outdoes himself. 25$ for such a high quality haircut is really good, I'd pay 40 if I had to. The atmosphere is good and the seats are comfortable. However, you should know that they tend to be busy. The average wait time for me has been about 30 minutes but it's worth it. read more
