This was my second time at Industry! Great location with immaculate Cap Hill friendly neighborhood hipster vibes. It's been a while since I've written one of these for a haircut but this one was awesome. Andy helped me work out a plan for it and did a cut that gave my fine, very straight hair lots of movement, texture, and style even with my super low maintenance daily routine. It's been a week now since getting it cut, and sometimes when you do that first week (or even first wash) you have a moment where you're like "hey where'd all the cool haircut go, it's just mush again?" NOT SO. This one maintains great movement and texture even with just blow drying it the night before and tossing texturizer in it in the morning (which I got at a discount thanks to their welcome package). I also loved seeing all the different types of neighborhood people around--not just like fancy people getting their hair done but a really wide spectrum from older dudes to younger NB folx and femmes. I am lazy when it comes to getting regular haircuts so I always feel like a beast when I go to Industry but Tayler has a "dry cut," technique for waves and curls. A lovely treatment/wash is included, plus a blow-out which makes me feel like a bombshell every time! I was at my wits end going from salon to salon, seeking solace. It was looking bleak. By the grace of the hair gods, I found Industry Salon. And not JUST this salon, I found my girl Tayler (beauty.bytayler on instagram). If I told you that she took my brown copper disgusting hair color into BLONDE would you believe me? I've been delaying writing this review because I wasn't sure how I felt about this salon but ultimately it was good not great. This was the 3rd time I've had my hair professionally colored. I've asked for balayages in the past and made that clear to my stylist. She seemed to not have believed me or was not confident in the results we would get, which is fair, but did not require her to repeat what my expectations should be at least 30 times before proceeding. It was especially irritating because she tried to set my expectations very low for how light she can get my hair, although I had done it previously at other salons without issues. I understand about setting expectations but there is a point where it's overkill and very off putting. I already had lost faith in her early on. I decided to proceed because this was the only time slot I had available. The results were unsurprisingly lighter in shade than where she said I should expect it to be at the beginning of the appointment. However, the overall tone was extremely brassy. Usually brassy tones come from not using the right products when caring for colored hair after several weeks, but in this case I started out with brassy hair. The balayage was painted on beautifully though and I do like the ultimate distribution. My stylist was pleasant throughout after the initial expectation setting portion. I found it odd how there were several stylists in the salon who didn't have appointments and seemed to just be hanging out in the salon. Ultimately I'm not sure if I'll be back. read more

Finding a new hair salon is tough...so when you're new to the area, you turn to Yelp and Instagram! That's how I came across Industry, and knew I wanted to book my next hair appointment with them. I booked my appointment with Kate who brought my balayage to life after listening about my hair-care routine, upkeep, and hair history. She also cleaned up my botched hair cut, taking some of the bluntness out of it and making it much more even. It was a last-minute ask and she was able to help this gal in need! After seeing a side-by-side of the outcome and what I showed her on Pinterest, though, I did book another appointment next week (review to follow!) to adjust the coloring a bit. I was like this place must be goos if they are so booked. I kept checking daily and finally an appointment popped up. I set my appointment with Sarah a Master Stylist. She was ready for me at my appointment time and offered me coffee, tea, or water. She was very kind and when I showed her the cut I wanted she was very excited. He was so friendly and walked me through every step which made me feel so much better. Old post: I made an appointment online with the next available stylist and got the junior stylist. I came in with pictures and she assured me that it was their signature cut and she knew exactly what to do. Unfortunately, she did not. My hair turned out so choppy and uneven - I had a better cut for $20 by a Vietnamese lady. The stylist even said "if I curl it, it won't look so choppy". I was surprised she didn't offer to fix it but offered to hide it in curls. I didn't ask her to fix it bc I was scared it might come out worse. Now I need to find someone to fix this cut. But no big deal. Clarissa was extremely transparent about the price and answered every question I had. My first time there was a year ago: a haircut and bangs. I was with Anna and I believe she's no longer there. Toward the end, she asked me if I was happy with the haircut and I pointed out that it was uneven. She tried to fix it but couldn't and had to ask someone else (I think Ashlie) to fix my hair. Bangs didn't suit me but ashlie did a good job fixing my hair and told me I could come back for free if I didn't like it. So my impression of the salon was pretty good. I thought I should just find someone who's more experienced next time. For my recent appointment I had a less great experience. I asked if I can bring my own shampoo and conditioner or wash my hair at home right before my appointment. (I discovered I'm allergic to many shampoos/conditioners and my doctor told me to only use specific ones). Industry salon said that my stylist is not comfortable with that, and the only stylist who was ok with that did not have availability until a week later. I found this kind of strange, I've never had other salons have issues with this, but I guess it's ok. It's a bit inconvenient for me as I have a special event coming up. What was less pleasant was that in the text response to my asking for allergy accommodations, they also told me I needed to pay in advance for this time, as I had cancelled my last 3 appointments. (I had cancelled all 3 in advance of their cancellation policy). I guess this is an ok policy to have, but I feel like they should not be telling customers this in response to asking for accommodations, it's not a great customer experience. They should have notified me when I booked this appointment instead, or not at all. read more

I've been in Seattle for a couple of years now and have been scheduling my haircut appointments around flying home to NYC because there's only one stylist I trust with my hair. I decided to come to Industry Salon because I read a bunch of positive reviews here, but my experience was quite bizarre and so I thought I'd share. I have dense, coarse, straight Asian hair and hoped to get a haircut with the most experienced stylist, so I booked an appointment with the owner. The haircut itself was mainly a trim, and I was very disappointed because they were very blunt yet sloppy cuts that took away the actual style of the original cut. I also asked for a hair and scalp treatment to alleviate some dryness I was experiencing, and after she said she didn't have anything for me, she suddenly remembered there was a product she was "looking to get rid of" but "maybe I still have it around." After rummaging through some boxes on the floor she found the product. When applying the product, she commented several times that she didn't know how to use it. It was a squeeze bottle of oil and she used about 1/2 the bottle on my head. While it felt nice and minty on my head while she left me at the hair washing station for 30 m, I walked out with a head full of grease that she said she "couldn't get it out, but should be ok when you comb it once you get home." There was so much grease in my hair, it was like someone had dumped a bucket of oil in it, and my hair was in clumps. While blowdrying my hair, she turned me away from the mirror and so I was just staring at the front door the entire time. The reason for this was because "the cord for the hairdryer scares the dog" that she brought to the salon. I never got to see the finished haircut or how greasy my hair actually was until I got home because I was basically never allowed to look in the mirror! My hair felt so gross I had to take a shower immediately after getting home. Another uncomfortable thing that happened while I was there was that I was pretty much made to be the stylist's therapist. She was upset about the pandemic and also upset over the fact that Jeff Bezos went to space (after I told her I worked at Amazon b/c she asked me where I worked). I mean I understand the company is a point of contention in this town, and people have their own points of views, but when I go to a hair salon, I hope to just get a haircut, not pay to validate or reassure the stylist for over an hour... As I was leaving the salon after paying and tipping, the stylist rushed back to the salon chair to grab the bottle of scalp oil that she used to wash my hair with. "Here, you can take this and use it at home, it's complimentary. We don't use it here anyway so you can have it as a gift." When I got home and looked at the bottle, it said it was meant for curly, afro hair, and you were just supposed to use a few drops of it. Overall just a very strange and uncomfortable experience for me, and I can't recommend this salon. read more

This was my best salon experience EVER...I wanted to stop coloring my hair because my hairline needed touching up ever two week or so, while the back 70% of my hair had next to no grey. I was looking for a salon that would evaluate my hair type and tell me honestly if my hair would tolerate having the color lifted. I wanted a steel grey salt and pepper affect to frame my face that would look natural while the grey grows in. It was a long process and it wasn't cheap, but it was so, so worth it! I had gotten 3 pitiful consultations, (the worst was Gene Juarez, Bellevue) none were as thorough and conscientious as Industry Salon. I am HEARTBROKEN to have to leave Seattle and Industry Salon. If I hadn't gotten into grad school in San Diego, I would've never stopped going to Industry Salon for my hair color. Every time I have an appointment, I'm greeted warmly by someone at the front desk or someone roaming the floor. They offer to take your coat, get you a beverage, all the lovely things that make a good receptionist. Now let me rave about Ashlie, who has been dyeing my hair since February 2023. She is an absolute sweetheart who is a PRO at what she does. She will help you set realistic goals for your hair and she knows exactly what shade will look great on you. Ashlie turned me into a GORGEOUS red-haired girl and I've never loved my hair so much. She can help recommend products for any needs you have, and she's honest about whether it's cheaper on Amazon or for purchase in the salon. Ashlie specializes in blondes, but she did an amazing job turning my dark brown hair into a gorgeous red. I also got a free blowout from one of the apprentices who needed to practice, and it was such a fun experience! Every staff member of the salon is wonderful and I will miss Industry Salon so much. read more

After reading all the positive reviews, I was really excited to check out Industry Salon and change up my hair. I made an appointment with Gisselle to get a full balayage done which was supposed to cost $195 according to their website. On the day of my 2pm appointment I received a text saying Gisselle was running 20 minutes late - which was fine. I get another text a bit later saying she wouldn't be done with her current client until 3pm. I was fine with pushing back my appointment time but when I showed up at 3pm, I was told that Gisselle would not be able to take me that day & we would reschedule for the next day with a discounted price & I would receive extra conditioning services for free. When I came back for my rescheduled appointment, I showed a picture of the style of balayage I wanted which I've included in this review. By the end of the really long appointment, I only had half of my hair done, it looked really orange & there were some bleach streaks in my hair... not sure if anyone goes into a salon & hopes to only have half of their hair done then pay $170 for the service (including the "discount" I was promised) I was really upset when I got home & had to wait a few weeks to get the rest of my hair done since they had shut down due to COVID. I got a few laughs when I came home so I just wore a hat everyday until my next appointment & felt really insecure about my hair. I was really stoked to finally have the rest of my hair done and Megan was really kind. I was told it would cost $50 for the service but when I was checking out, I was informed that it would be $75 because there was a conditioning treatment used - which I never asked for and wasn't told that I was getting this. I ended up paying $255 total for whatever was done to my hair. My hair ended up really orange but I was glad it was just finally all one color... I wasn't digging the half and half look. I'm still learning to like my hair but I feel a lot better just wearing a hat for now. Hopefully I'll be able to find a salon that could help me achieve the look I was going for but I'm pretty scarred from this experience. I rated 2 stars because the staff was really kind & the salon itself was nice. I had a bad experience with stylist Kristina twice and still did not get the color I asked for. When I spoke to the stylist and manager there about dissatisfaction both were defensive and blame problem on me as a new customer. The behavior itself made me want to go some where else next time but I still left with a color I did I ask for and was charge $435 for a partial foil with root touch up. I have never been charge that high for that service. Also I still am not happy with the color since it it too light and does not look natural. I do not recommend this salon. I usually expect that I won't like my haircut after the fact due to my long history of not being satisfied with salons all over Seattle (seriously have gone to Issaquah and Lynnwood too). I've always been extremely picky with my hair, so when I found Rochelle it was a miracle. From the way she cuts it, styles it, or colors it, my hair has always come out perfectly. I've been seeing Rochelle for about a year now and even followed her from her old salon to Industry. I'll never see anyone else. What I like most about Rochelle is how personable she is and how she actually listens when I ask for what I want! I am extremely shy so it's kind of amazing how she can bring me out of my shell within 5 mins of an appointment and have me go on tangents about school or work. Somehow she is able to work with my black thick Asian hair and is able to give it more flare without having to do something over the top. Every cut and balayage I've had has turned out and grown out great. I love the hair products used at the salon as well, I think they're r&co! They smell so good and even after visiting the salon a week later my hair usually still smells like the products. My hair type: I have black thin tight curly indian hair I came in to get a muted Carmel-brown balayage that's not warm, I wanted something that wound be blended into my black hair, looking effortlessly and definitely NOT a WARM Carmel. Sierra knows and understands BLACK CURLY hair, she understand exactly what I wanted and delivered exactly that!!! I came it nervous after a bad experience at another salon and I left with the biggest smile on my face! Sierra even extended our time as it took longer than expended, and after coloring my hair she took the time to blow dry it out and I left with my hair looking at its best. Scheduled a 1:00pm appointment on a Sunday, didn't get in chair until 1:30pm. I have never waited 30 minutes for a hair appointment, this was my only qualm about the start of the appt. I was told to wait 10 min initially and then it just dragged on.. My overall haircut experience was good. Washed hair and cut as desired. She walked me through what she anticipated would work and wouldn't. Overall pricing was a bit more than my usual budget but decent. I probably won't go back again given the timing issue.. but I liked the stylist and the online scheduling made it quite easy. Industry Salon was the first salon I found after moving to Seattle almost 3 years ago and after multiple services in that time, I unfortunately will not be back due to several poor experiences. The first was when I mixed up the time of my appointment - I thought it started at 5:30 when really it started at 5pm (my bad - they do send multiple reminders). At 5:15pm, the salon texted me to say that I had missed my appointment and they were cancelling it. I was less than 5 minutes away so I *immediately* called them (no answer) and texted back (no answer) asking if they could wait and explaining that I confused the time. When I showed up I asked if I could only do the color (instead of color + cut) due to the lost time but was told that they had already moved up another appointment and couldn't see me. Oh AND they were going to charge me the FULL price of my appointment ($200+) which is insane given that I was standing in the salon when they told me this. Totally understand that this was my mistake, but if they had time to call another client to reschedule, it seems like they could have answered my call to learn I was 5 minutes away... or at least not charge me since they found someone else to take the appointment. More recently, I had such a disappointing color experience. I asked for neutral tones in a blonde balayage (basically taking out the brassiness) and something that would grow out well because I had several events over the summer and wouldn't be able to come back in. Gisselle quickly painted on the balayage and then left me sitting with the color on for over an HOUR while she went to finish an appointment with another client. This is far longer than my hair usually processes, but not surprising at Industry where they are seemingly always double-booking. Of course this had an impact on the color and we ended up toning my hair twice because it "didn't look right" the first time. By the time my hair was blow dried there was a very pronounced horizontal line in the color and it was nowhere close to the "ashy" blonde that Gisselle kept talking about or the neutral tone that I had actually asked for. I ended up coming back in later that week to "correct" for the horizontal line , which was free, but Gisselle basically just added more balayage to the impacted area which made the color super heavy and not well-blended at all. She also did some touchups to the haircut that she had just done a few days earlier (which was nice? i guess? but also concerning). I was self-conscious about my hair all summer when I really wanted it to look nice for weddings, etc. Super disappointing experience for a salon that touts itself as the "color expert". read more

Bernae' was so knowledgeable in both hair color and cutting, in addition to being extremely detail-oriented and made sure they understood exactly what I wanted. Finding a new stylist can be scary, but they made me feel at ease and updated me every step of the way of what was being done. My balayage and cut turned out amazing. Rochelle reached out to me after I had posted my previous review asking for me to come back and get my hair redone for free of charge by Wesley! I was kind of skeptical but I'm so glad I went back! Wesley was amazing! I told him I was originally upset because my hair looked pretty orange last time and the top of my head and the layers under were not really touched (still tons of black). He listened to me patiently and went to work. He asked me if it was okay if a girl named Kylee could watch him work and assist him because she was new and learning. I was totally fine with it and she turned out to be really great and helpful! Wesley was very attentive and careful every step of the way. I could immediately tell he was a perfectionist. He will not let anything distract him when he works. It was incredible. I felt safe letting him work on my hair! He was also a great conversationalist and hilarious. By the time I had to get my hair washed, it was already way past closing time. Kylee and Wesley stayed there patiently with me and didn't rush anything at all. I felt so bad! When Wesley asked me how I wanted to get my hair done and I responded oh don't worry I'll just have it dried and it should be fine because it's so late, he told me to not worry at all about the time and that he will give me whatever hairdo I wanted. That was so sweet. I still asked for it straight though because I felt bad. My hair turned out amazing. After a few washes it just keeps getting lighter! I love it! I'll be back again for sure. So I had Wesly work on my hair balayage, & then had to return for foliage to get my hair lighter. It became so light all over the place that I returned for adjustment and Krista toned it down with ashy color! I love it now for the summer and will be back to do more toning! Clarissa is my dream come true! I've been wanting to have a purple-grayish hair for a long time now but I'm afraid of how it's going to turn out. I trusted my guts and booked with her. She is literally the best at this craft. She knows how to saturate my hair and was able to remove the brassy tone of it. Not only she is great with hair coloring, she is one of the nicest people too and would definitely make you feel at ease by her friendliness and warmth. If you guys ever want to do the purple kind of hair or unicorn, rose gold tones, Clarissa is your go to girl. She is one of the bests out there. I am so happy with how my hair turns out and I've beeen getting lots of compliments already! Also, Industry Salon's interior set up is very cozy, with free coffee and artists that are really friendly. No wonder they're number one in Seattle! Good job guys! Bernae is absolutely amazing. I've been coming to her for over a year now and fully trust her with my hair! She is very detail-oriented/a perfectionist. She will take her time to give you the results that you want. She is attentive, listens to your desires, and delivers! She also recommends great products and has been able to help me with damaged hair. The facility itself is a very cute salon! The only issue is parking - so leave yourself enough time to find a spot. Also, if you street park, most spots around there have a 2 hour limit. So make sure if you park in one of those, your appointment won't be longer than that. Overall I highly recommend Industry Salon, specifically Bernae. I don't intend to go to any other salon anytime soon! read more

Mediocre at best - Stylists are always running late. Last week a stylist (running a half hour late) was filling in for my regular stylists for just a root touch up to cover grays - came out with no gray coverage and orange roots. Returned for a retouch and my regular stylist overcompensated and turned my hair jet black which is horrifying and looks awful (always am a chocolate brown). I asked for a refund and they told me all services are final. So much for a salon that claims to be experts in color correction. read more

Yay Industry Salon!!! Conveniently located near the Light Rail (I come from UW after work for my appts.) This salon is ultra cool. I love the decor and vibes here, I feel a little more cool just walking in! I see Sierra for balayage, color, cuts and whatever other magic she does to my hair. I'm not very style and beauty savvy and my girl Sierra always does me right. I pretty much just tell her to do whatever she thinks will look good, and she delivers! She never over sells me on services or products and I trust her to the core, which is a first for me. She does a great scalp massage and has such a gentle touch during the blow out portion I usually fall asleep in her chair!! Go check Industry and Sierra our! I found Industry through Yelp after moving to Seattle and trying to find a place I could trust as I was with the same hair stylist for the past 4 years. The first time I came I got a haircut with Clarissa. My hair is pretty standard; straight, thick, slightly longer than medium length so I wanted to shorten, trim to side bangs and try a bit of an A-line to mix it up. Clarissa and I have similar hair so she definitely understood what I was going for and the end result was great! Even though it wasn't a drastic change, my friends could definitely tell my hair looked more polished now. Second time I came I got an all over color process with Kelly. Originally I made the appt for a balayage but after my consultation that all changed. I wanted to go darker than my current partial highlights and blend in my dark black roots to my growing caramel highlights so Kelly gave me great suggestions, described the steps she would take, and we reviewed different colors. I felt very confident in how my hair would look before she even started, and the end result was just like she explained. So glad I found a salon I can trust! read more
